Investing in new laptop-Will Premiere Pro CS6 run OK?

I'm planning to buy a computer with the following specs:
NVIDIA GeForce GT745, Core i7-4700MQ, 8GB RAM, 1000GB HDD/SSD
Will this PC meet the performance requirements for Adobe Premiere Pro CS6?

I believe that the 1TB laptop drives are all 5400 rpm drives and therefore they are not really suitable for any video editing.  Now if you do not mind upgrading yourself or having a real computer store do it for you you could possibly get by, but really you need an absolute minimum of two 7200 rpm drives or SSD's to satisfactory be able to do any video editing.  Was this by any chance the .Lenovo IdeaPad Z710 Laptop - 59400478?  It does not have a second drive bay, you have to remove the DVD drive to install a second hard drive or SSD.

  • Why will Premiere Pro CS6 only import to mpeg format?

Hello, so I've been using Premiere Pro CS6 now for only a few months and when I imported (using "capture" or F5) and tested some footage  from a HDV camera using a miniDV tape, I noticed that Premiere Pro would only import to mpeg format. I looked up ways to change this but couldn't find anything. So in short I'm asking if there is a way to change import format so that whenever I do import from DV tape, it isn't mpeg?
    Thanks!

    ...footage  from a HDV camera...
    ...only import to mpeg format.
HDV capture will always be mpeg.
whenever I do import from DV tape, it isn't mpeg?
DV capture will be .avi (pc) or .mov (mac).
    note:
Capture from tape, import file based media.
    Capturing and digitizing
Also, what's the problem with mpeg?
Why are you determined to change it?

  • Disk setup for Laptop on Premiere Pro CS6

So, I have read the guidlines on disk setup but I feel that it is geared towards a desktop setup. I would like to know how do I setup a laptop that has the three (3) HDD bays. I only have two drives on it and I am looking forward to buy a new one depending on how you guys reccomend it is set up. My OS disk is 128gb Crucial M4 and the second drive is a 7200 750GB seagate momentus xt. Which will eventually become:
    OS - 128gb SSD
    Source - 750gb drive
    Render - ?????
    External - cache/export/storage
Should I go for another 7200 drive of the same kind or should I remove it and go for SSD for both source and render? Thank you very much for any help.

Good, that is a strong laptop spec.
I'd vote to go with a second matching Momentus in bay 3 for sure.
Suggest you buy it, configure it, and test it out to see if you have the drive speed with your workflow to max out your cores (monitor w/ task mgr) with just the two internal drives and nothing external. I don't have much personal experience with your particular codec (sounds like Canon DSLR?), but I suspect that you will be CPU bound more than disk I/O with this setup.
Your eSATA extrernal drive or array may only be needed for backups. If it does turn out you are want or need even more drive performance, configure the two 7200 rpm drives as a RAID 0 in the laptop and bundle with something (single 7200 or G-RAID mini) coupled externally.

  • MP4 exported from Premiere Pro CS6 runs choppy on some computers . . .

I have a video clip that was rendered as a .mov file in AfterFX CS6.  I uploaded it to youtube exported as a 1080p HD MP4 (target bitrate 12, max bitrate 12, VBR, 2-pass) that runs OK on my computer at any resolution, and runs OK on my iPad and 47" TV, but runs choppy on my laptop, and a friend's computer.  My computer is a Dell running a Haswell i7, with 24GB of memory and an Nvidia Quadro 2000 video card.  My iPad is Gen 4, my laptop is a Lenovo with i5 cpu and 4GB ram, and my friend is running a first generation i7 920 (overclocked) with 12GB of ram.  On my computer and iPad, http://youtu.be/lMg-YsVMZHg runs smoothly at any resolution, and the same file runs smoothly on my 47" LED TV from a USB 2 thumb drive.  It runs choppy and stutters on my laptop and my friend's machine at even low res.  The same file runs a lot smoother with some very slight judder when plugging the thumb drive directly into my laptop and running full screen.  What suggestions do you have?  Is this a bitrate problem, and what should work with all machines?
    Thanks.
    Gary Silverstein

The tutorials are downloaded as a zip file then extracted; I don't actually screen record the tutorials while streaming or anything.  I guess I couldn't say if variable frame rate was used when they recorded the tutorials, but the media I have shows up as 30fps as opposed to some sort of non-traditional frame rate that often shows up when recording with something at a variable frame rate (like the stock iPhone video camera app).

  • "Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 has stopped working" but was working fine a week ago...

On my desktop (Dell XPS 8300), I keep getting the error message "Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 has stopped working" when openng up a previously created project or trying to create a new one in Premiere Pro CS6.
On my laptop (MS Surface Pro 2), I can load projects and edit them, but I cannot export media.  When I try, it just sits there and does nothing.  I've also tried sending it to Media Encoder, but that doesn't help either.  Sometimes, it crashes too.
I'm running Windows 8.1 on both with the latest updates installed.
Oddly, this started roughly around the same time on both computers.
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing, but that didn't help.
I've run the Windows troubleshooter and that didn't help either.
I've tried running as an administrator, and running the program in compatibility mode for Windows 8, 7 and Vista - that doesn't solve the issue either.
At this point, I can't do any work and am even considering paying for CC even though I just dropped $700 on CS6 last year, but I'm wondering if that would even solve the issue, or if the CC version would also not work...

    >started roughly around the same time on both computers
Most likely cause is a Windows update that changed "something" about the video system
Check the vendor site (NOT Windows update) for a newer video driver

  • Is Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 compatible with Yosemite?

I'm considering buying a copy of premiere pro cs6 as I prefer a copy that I can use forever without a subscription to CC and also be able to use without an internet connection as I am mostly without internet. I just recently updated my iMac to Yosemite. I'm curious if I can install a new copy of Premiere Pro cs6 onto Yosemite? Also, if not does Adobe plan to update Premiere Pro CS6 and keep it compatible with Apple's new OS releases? Or will they only be focusing on the CC apps?

It is unlikely  that CS6 will get any updates. I beliee that has been answered/ advised by Adobe
Someone else may answer from experience if CS6 plays nicely with Yosemite

  • Why Do I get Choppy Playback in Premiere Pro CS6

Before upgrading from CS5.5 to CS6 I wiped my computer and started from scratch. When editing 4 angles in CS5.5 I never had any problems with playback... even after adding titles, effects..
In CS6 I have my 4 files set into a multicam sequence but when I play back and start cutting from cam to cam it gets choppy.
    I am running:
    Windows 7 64bit
On a Dell Studio XPS 9100
    Intel Core i7 930 @ 2.80GHz
    12.0 GB Ram
    ATI Radeon HD 5800
I have my memory preferences in PR set to 12 GB Installed, Ram for other aps = 3 Ram fpr PR 9GB, and it set to performance
Any help to speed up and render this proper would be great, Still have to add color correction, titles, logo.

The 1st update came out today. Downloading now. Looks like it should fix my old problems... fingers crossed
What's new in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 6.0.1:
    May 26th, 2012
Features added or changed in this update:
    · Improved performance using OpenCL, especially when used on Mac OSX v10.7.4 or later.
    · Added encoding presets with additional bit-rate settings for XDCAM HD.
    · Added Automatic Peak File Generation preference in the Audio category for turning off automatic peak file generation for imported audio. By default, this preference is enabled and matches the behavior of Premiere Pro CS6 (6.0.0).
    · When this preference is disabled, importing audio or opening projects will not cause peak files to be generated. If peak files were already generated, then waveforms will be visible. Files imported before the preference was disabled will continue to generate peak files.
    · Enabled “smart rendering” and added Enable Smart Rendering Codec setting to the Video tab of the MXF OP1a exporters for XDCAM HD and XDCAM EX to enable or disable smart rendering for these formats. This option defaults to the off/disabled state. We’ll have more information about this feature in a post on this blog within a day.
    Bugs fixed in this update:
    · Start timecode was not imported or exported correctly when working with AAF files.
    · Some files from the Canon 5D Mark III camera were imported with the wrong timecode.
    · Playing/viewing waveforms in the Source Monitor caused audio dropouts with some XDCAM HD clips.
    · NTSC MXF OP1a files that were exported with drop-frame timecode had video data that was tagged as non-drop-frame.
    · Switching the Renderer project setting from Mercury Playback Engine Software Only to Mercury Playback Acceleration GPU Acceleration on a computer using OpenCL caused Premiere Pro to crash under some circumstances. Switching between the two settings on a computer using CUDA would in some cases cause problems with video and/or audio playback.
    · Crash when using full-screen, cinema mode on some computer systems.
    · Tape capture was not working correctly with some third-party systems.
    · Crash when capturing from tape using some BlackMagic hardware.
    · An extra, black frame was included at the end of the output when exporting to P2 MXF in some circumstances.
    · First two frames were being played twice on external monitor using Matrox MXO2.
    · Crash when using “hover scrub” with Matrox MXO2.
    · Audio/video synchronization was off by a few frames when playing video on external monitor.
    · The Export Frame button was not exporting the correct frame, instead exporting a frame one or two frames away from the current frame.
    · Some audio files and some MXF files would go offline or have their audio reconformed when the project was re-opened or when Premiere Pro was minimized or lost focus.
    · Crash when modifying an effect property while playback was occurring.
    · Hang/freeze when using a dissolve transition on an adjustment layer.
    · Dropped frames and audio/video synchronization issues when exporting to tape using some third-party hardware.
    · Information about dropped frames on output to tape was not accessible to third-party systems.
    · Some QuickTime files were imported with the wrong field order.
    · When audio was sent through a Mercury Transmit plug-in, any number of channels that was not 2 or 6 was treated as mono.
    · In HDV editing mode, File > Export > Tape could not be used with third-party hardware.
    · The current-time indicator (playhead) was not returning to the current time after using the Play Around command.
    · Last several frames of output when exporting to tape were black.
    · When encoding a 23.976 fps video to H.264, the duration of the video in the output .m4v file was too short, and audio drifted out of synchronization with the video.
    · Transparency (alpha channel) information from a dynamically linked After Effects composition was rendered incorrectly in Premiere Pro.
    · Importing some QuickTime OP1a files caused Premiere Pro to hang.
    · The duration of the audio track sent to SpeedGrade using the Send To SpeedGrade command was the length of the entire Premiere Pro sequence, not the length of the work area.
    · Timecode written to trimmed clips using the Project Manager did not match the source timecode for some QuickTime files.
    · Various other crashes.

  • NVIDIA GPUs for Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 | NVIDIA and Adobe Solutions | Adobe TV

Sean Kilbride from NVIDIA talks about how Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and NVIDIA GPUs were used in the editing of the Heavy Hand music video.
    http://adobe.ly/QaVPwR

I'm playing around with the trial of CS6 right now. At first I wasn't getting the option to use GPU rendering until I added my card to the supported list (GeForce GTX 670). Unfortunately my playback is still laggy, just like when it was on software mode. I'm trying to watch 1080 video that I recorded using software on my computer.
    I have an i5 2500k at 4.3GHz, 8GB ram, and two 670s in SLI.
I have premiere pro cs6 running on my main SSD, and my scratch disks set to my single platter 7200 RPM hdd. In the past on CS5 I was able to have my scratch disks set to the drives I have the original files on with no lag.
What can I do to get smooth playback?

  • Replace footage will crash Premiere Pro CS6

    Hi,
I have a serious problem with Premiere Pro CS6 when I want to replace footage in the project. I need to replace .R3D files to ProRes files that I encoded via MediaEncoder.
When I replace the clip (.R3D to ProRes) in project browser, Premiere crashes every time announcing:
"Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down..."
When reopening the project (the recovery project Premiere Pro tried to save while crashing), the name of the file is still the same, but the content of the file has changed to the ProRes clip (they are different in resolution). When I replace the clip again, the name of the clip also changes and does not crash - however the clip was already changed even the name wasn't.
If I then replace another clip (.R3D to ProRes), Premiere will crash again. This happens every time I try to replace a new clip (.R3D to ProRes).
If I replace the other way around (ProRes to .R3D), Premiere will not crash.
Please help. This is very annoying problem, and I need this resolved as soon as possible!
    Thanks!
    (MacPro, OSX 10.7.5, PremierePro CS6)

    Hi again,
nobody has an idea why this happens?
Well, I made further experiments, sent crash reports to Adobe, no reply.
The problem is still: when trying to replace footage (.R3D => AppleProRes), PremierePro crashes every time.
The following announcement pops out (to click OK):
    Adobe Premiere Pro
Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project.
Earlier PremierePro crashed and had to force-quit. Now I just have to quit it - it stays on but does not work and makes a pop-up (to click Continue):
Premiere Pro has encountered an error.
    [/Volumes/BuildDisk/builds/slightlybuilt/PremierePro/UIFramework/Make/Mac/../../Src/Worksp ace.cpp-209]
Again, if trying to replace footage the other way around (AppleProRes => .R3D), PremierePro does not crash.
    Please, help soon! Thanks.

I'm a new user and learning, I bought and installed Premiere Pro cs6.  I got a nice video clip but has a baby cried in the background and very annoying.  I have tried all of the sounds in Prem cs6 but didn't work. My question is, do I need to get a separate sound software download and install to be able to use it?

In the CS versions, there was some audio capability in PrPro but you needed to get a separate audio program for major work. Lessening a baby definitely qualifies as major work. That's lessening, i dont mean eliminating. Adobe's audio program is Audition. There are others "out there'. In the CC versions one just downloads Audution also.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 (mac) will not completely launch.

After a few weeks idol my Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 (mac) will not completely launch. It tells me a serious error has occurred, it shuts down and the circle continues. I've even reloaded  the app and it happens again. I did upgraded to Yosemite but I can't find anyone else having probs with Yosemite. Any ideas. No luck on the adobe site.

    >did upgraded to Yosemite
CS6 is about 3 years old... even the latest Cloud versions had to have updates to be compatible... since you have "reloaded" (was that a full uninstall and reinstall?) I have no other suggestions

  • Premiere Pro CS6 will not install after uninstalling it?

I was having a problem with Red Giant's Mojo plugin. Their preset would not show up in Premiere Pro CS6. The Red Giant tech told me to reinstall PPro. So I did the uninstall thing and now when I click to install PPro, nothing happens. I did things like restarts and repaired permissions, but nothing helps.Any ideas?
    Mac Pro 1,1 - Lion 10.7.5

This is how I solved the problem:
Been on the chat with Red Giant. They could not fix the problem. They told me to re-install Premiere Pro. That didn't help. The presets still did not show up. The Mojo preset file would not import. So what I did was, since the Mojo presets do show up in After Effects, I applied each preset to a clip. Took a screenshot of each one of the slider of where they were set in the effects control panel. Then went back to Premiere Pro, manually set the sliders for each preset that I made screenshots of. After each one I set, I did a save preset. Made a new bin and put all nine preset in the bin. It was a little time consuming but it got the job done.
    Hope this helps.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 will not shut down - this has occured since installing.

    Hello,
I recently installed Premiere Pro CS6 and the program will not shut down normally, I have to always shut it down using the task manager.  Should I try re-installing the program?

We cannot know. You are not providing any system information. Such issues are most of the time driver issues where certain DLLs are not released/ unloaded from memory.

Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 will work under windows vista?

    Hi,
Thanks for posting on forum. Windows Vista is not a supported platform for Adobe Premiere pro CS6 but, you can try the installation on Vista and check if it gets installed on it. Also, if it gets installed you might face further issues while using the product.
