I've got a problem with the graphic representation of ViewPlatform. I use several viewers in my program. The first ViewPlatform is invisible. I can move it but I can't see it. All the next ViewPlatforms that I add to the graph, but the first, have avatar. I'll attach the code that I use so that someone could help me.

Startup disk contains replica of itself inside invisible Volume folder

Hello. Bizarrely, my startup disk contains an image of itself, naturally diminishing the available disk space. It sits inside an invisible folder, namely: Volumes/[name of the starup disk]. This invisible folder "Volumes". Now, inside this folder are images (or folders) of all the volumes on the machine, and of each of them finder claims a size that maches the size of the date on it. But the folder "Volumes" itself is claimed to be the almost size of all the date on the startup disk except the Volumes folder itself. So Users, Applications, Library and System together are the same size as this invisible Volumes folder—almost. The Caches folders are missing inside the Volumes folder. And what finder counts as used space on that startup disk is just all the files including the size of that Volumes folder.
I don't think that's the way it should be, is it?

Hello H-C-R. no, I'm not. It may very well be that /Volumes folder. It doesn't display a / in the folder name, but maybe that's not what you mean. Anyway, it is like I said an invisible folder entitled "Volumes", and it contains what looks like all volumes connected, and their respective size count displays the size of the data each. All those folder's have icons like the volumes they refer to (no indication of them being aliases), except the startup volume. which is the volume that ominous invisible Volumes folder is sited on, too. That one is present twice. Once as a folder bearing the name of the volume, but not it's icon, and once as an alias bearing the name of the volume with [space]1 added to it, and the volume's icon. And the invisible Volumes folder on the startup disk has a size count, and that size count adds to the Used count of that startup disk. And since this is a long explanation for something visible at one sight, I'll give you a picture —

Invisible icons on DESKTOP

although i know for a fact that a certain file is on my desktop, since its listed in my Finder, i cannot drag/drop/copy/erase ANYTHING onto/from my desktop because it either goes back to its original folder or ends up in smoke "the poof cloud"... even a simple "screen capture" image which always go to the Desktop by default is INVISIBLE to the naked eye but exists on the Finder!
i think i made a keyboard shortcut action while trying to remember the screen capture and maybe ended up activating "invisibility" to my desktop, or something! its frustrating because i use a lot of my desktop area to copy/paste files, or eject a dvd, or install DMG programs so i googled and read a lot about possible "invisibility" function within a TERMINAL command but all i can manage to do is list my HD directories with the command "ls -a ~/Desktop" but i wont adventure further because a n00b like me is to afraid of recking my new mac!

Maybe I can clarify since im having the same issue. Whe I save a pdf or any other file to my desktop from safari the file does not show up visible on the desktop...... the file is there in the desktop folder but cant be seen. I can do a search for it in spotlight and it is there I can even drag it from the spotlight window to the desktop and it shows up. Have you tried a spotlight search. I would like to know if there is a fix for this as it becomes very tiresome to save the file somewhere else and then move it

Invisible page or something like this?

do we have something like invisible page? For example, i have
a class with many many children, and the drawing of this class take
a time. I thought that i can draw my class (and all the children)
somewhere on invisible page, and that if it ready transform this
"ready" page to the visible page, so the user can see this control
and work this it.

You could use the viewstack container to accomplish what you
need. you can layout a viewstack with two children, the first one a
canvas and a label maybe that gives your users some feedback, and
another children containig your whole class, so if you have a
function or your class dispatches an event when it creation its
completed you can the change the viewstack selectedchildren to
reveal your class.

Indexes can be visible or invisible. An invisible index is maintained by DML operations and cannot be used by the optimizer. Actually takes space, but is not to be used as part of a potential access path.
AFAIK, a virtual index is created by the tools used in SQL statement access path tuning to provide an alternative for the optimizer to test. It does not take any real space as it is a pure in memory definition.

Invisible files which can't be deleted

There is a single folder in my trash, and nothing else. When I try to empty the trash, there is a series of popups saying "the operation cannot be completed because the file 2010.psf is locked", etc, for 60 or so different files. These files are from some calendar function of Photo Impression. The funny thing is, if I open the folder which is in the trash to unlock the files, they aren't there, or at least they are invisible. If I open the Info dialog for the folder it shows 5.9M of contents, and it shows read and write permissions for owner, group and others, and it says it's unlocked, but I can't figure out how to get rid of it. Any suggestions? It's very annoying. Thanks.

Oh! I just had the VERY same problem last night with a rogue AppleWorks folder..
Do you have the ability to boot to OS9?
If so, put the offending folder into your hard drive (at the 'root' level, not in a folder anywhere - makes it easier to find in OS9), reboot to 9, then holmes it out and throw it in the trash.
To delete locked files in OS9 simply hold down the option key when you choose 'Empty Trash'.

Solved: InDesign CC: Problems with text in text box: text flows around invisible object

I just upgraded from CS4 to CC. I have two problems with text in some text boxes:
The text seems to flow around invisible object that I cannot find or delete. It's as if there is a photo or other object behind the text box; but when I press COMMAND-a to select all, I don't see any such object.
When I move this text box, the layout of the text within changes. For example, when the box is high on my spread, the text flows correctly within the box; but when I move it down, it flows around that hidden other object. For another example, when the box is low on the page, the text starts at the top of the box; but when I move the text box up, the text starts somewhere in the middle of the box.
I have checked margins of the text box and the paragraph options of the text paragraphs (margins, indents, alignments). They all look OK.
If I modify the text box, checking the box "Ignore text wrap", then the problem goes away; but then the text also will not flow around a real object that I want it to flow around.
Solution:
There were objects in a hidden layer on that one spread. It seems that in CS4 when you "select all" you would also select objects in hidden layers; but in CC it doesn't.

MMS - invisible mmsc settings

Hi,
is there any procedure how to unlock invisible mmsc setting on Z10? I bought unlocked Z10, using provider O2 Czech Republic, every services work fine except mms (unable to sent/receive). When I go: Text message/Options/Text messages/MMS/Advanced - I can see only this setting:
SMS (Allow Special Characters, Service Center Address, Routing Preference, Send Text..., Retries)
APN Settings - this is visible but locked (APN = mms, Username=null, Password= null)
MMSC - unvisible!!??
Any idea how to unlock it?

I gave up in the end after 6 weeks of constantly trying. I wrote to Vodafone CEO office and had a reply very quickly. They agreed to me returning the Z10 and re-instating my contract to before my last upgrade which has allowed me to choose a different phone.
Shame really as the Z10 is a beautiful phone

Text input boxes same colour as background - so "invisible", and button text or buttons often missingt

I have turned off all addons/extensions/plugins - still the same problem:
1: Text input boxes appear to be the same colour as the background - and hence "invisible"
2: Clickable buttons on websites are often invisible, or if they display have no text; e.g. button to right of google search ("go" button?) is seen as a plain box with no text - although button is clickable.
3: Google webpage usually has an image - this is missing, and merely has "UK" to the top left of the input box.
4: On this page for example I can see directly above this text box two vertical black lines - it appears to be a button with a pop-up "insert a link" - it can obviously be clicked when I mouse over it.

Status keeps changing from invisible to online: why the issue is ignored?

There is a serious issue raised in the parallel thread, which is critical for many people: "Status keeps changing from invisible to online" (initiated on ‎16-11-2014 by b.agne, Mac section). In short, when starting using a device, the Skype status changing from "invisible" to "online" - sometimes just for a moment, though enough for others to notice you. These affects very much any type of devices. I am sure the issue has already led to multiple personal crisises and potentially financial losses due to buseness partnership issues (I came close to that myself, and now use anything but Skype for business). The question is: WHY the issue is completely ignored by Skype, Microsoft and expert comunity? Please post the solution if anybody knows how to fix the issue, or suggest how to make Microsoft to know that it should be fixed. Kind regard...

Hi, I also have the same issue. I change the status to Invisible and a later on it is already as "Online", without having even touched/opened Skype. The only way that I see this may happen is that I have the app installed on the smartphone, but before it never had this issue, but from some month ago it started. How can I delete a file from an invisible Library folder on a backup

Somehow, when installing RealPlayer I managed to get something called RealNetwork (a Folder full of files) installed in my User Library. It was 395.62 GB so must have been some sort of malware. I was able to find it and delete it from my hard drive. BUT I had backed up my hard drive to a non-bootable backup the day before so that file is still in the invisible Library folder on that drive, taking up almost 400 GB there, too.
Does anyone know how to delete it from the backup drive since I can't boot that drive?
I'm using Mavericks 10.9 on a MacBookPro with a 2T Seagate backup drive.

Here's what I just did. I went to the Go menu and pressed Recent Folders, and in the command box typed a path that should have taken me to the backup drive user library folder, and it did. So thank you. I managed to figure out from what you said, something to do, though I still struggle with the techno-babble. It seems the folder that was 395.62 GB that should have been backed up to this drive is not that size on the backup, but only 28.88 GB. I deleted it anyway.
So, now I'm back to figuring out what just ate up so much of my backup drive so suddenly, and in about the same amount as removed from my internal drive. I still suspect I'll find that folder somewhere.

Mac mini and 52" TV monitor -- menu bars invisible

Last summer I bought a mac mini for my Samsung 22" TV/DVI monitor. The mini immediately recognized the TV as a specific DVI monitor and all was well.
The only problem was the monitor was smaller than my iMac screen. A bigger TV was inevitable. We eventually moved, and the idea of using binoculars to watch TV held little appeal, so I bought a 52" Samsung.
I bought a DVI to HDMI cable, as this TV had no DVI input (unlike the 22" combo TV/DVI monitor) and the mini recognizes it generically as "Samsung" and chooses "1080p" for the monitor resolution. (I assume this is preferred to 1080i, even though the refresh rate is slower?).
I want to use this both as a "Front Row" interface for iTunes movies, etc, and as a conventional monitor for when I want to do computery things.
The menu bar (as well as the bottom of the dock) are invisible. They are there when I remotely display the screen, so I think they might just be hidden by the frame. Is there a viable workaround? Of the 15 or so possible resolutions, exactly one shows the menu bar, but at the expense of lower resolution and terrible color balance (oddly, if I rotate the image 180° in Display System Preferences, the color looks ok).
Also, while I am at it, what is the optimal way to export audio from the mac mini into a stereo input? Right now I am using the headphone jack, and it sounds ok, but I suspect there might be a much better way.

I've been having this same problem! My Mini plugged into my 42" HDTV (via DVI to HDMI adapter, with Overscan enabled) has the desktop overflowing the screen on all four sides. With Overscan disabled, the desktop is too small and has a black band on all four sides.
Now, I know the Nvidia GPU can scale/stretch the display for external displays, I had to do it with my Vista laptop. So, how do I do the same thing on my Mini?
I've called tech support, but I had no luck. The first guy would only say 'You can't do anything else.' and hung up when I asked for someone else. The second guy didn't even understand the issue.

Mountain Lion changes my google chat icon / avatar

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8.2, and regularly, after a few days of use, I notice that my Google chat icon / image / avatar is being changed to an image that I have on my local machine, that I once had as my login avatar, but have not used now for over 8 years!
It seems that Mountain Lion is telling Google's chat (but not Google+, or facebook) to use this image as my avatar for google chat, even though I am not explicitly telling it to, AND both my contacts and login profile images (System Preferences -> Users & Groups) on my mac are set to the correct image I want.
Originially, my avatar was an animated gif, but I'm trying to replace that everywhere with a standard gif just in case that's the problem, but it doesn't seem to be helping!
Does anyone know where else I may be having this phantom image of me, from 8 years ago show up?? The picture is not my current login or contacts pictures...

Ok... I figured it out on my own...
Messages will regularly (~1 hour I think) change all the avatar/profile images it can for all the various jabber, AIM, etc (including gchat, since it's jabber protocol). I thought it was changing it to my Address book or "contacts" profile, or my login images, but these are independent of the one Messages was using (atleast for me). Here's how I fixed this for me:
Go to Mac OS Menu Bar (when focussed in Messages):
Messages -> Change My Picture...
Then drag an image you want to use into one of the "recents" tab, use the "other" tab, or take a picture of yourself using the web cam. Once you've selected a photo, you can crop it within the image window, or leave it alone. When you're ready, just click "done" button.
That's seeming to fix this PITA for me... why Apple decided my Mac's account image, Contacts profile, and Messages avatar image should all be different... beats me.

Open Link in New Window creates an invisible window (visible after restarting).

When I use the right mouse button menu to Open Link in New Window from a web page it creates an invisible window. That is, I cannot see the window but it is listed in the Firefox Window menu. This newly opened window cannot be selected either by mouse or from the Window menu. However, if I quit and restart Firefox the new window appears as 0 pixels wide (i.e., a 1 pixel wide vertical line) and I can select it (by mouse or Window menu) and zoom it from the Window menu. After zooming I can operate on the window normally.

Get Firebug and inspect the element. You'll see that it actually is this:
