Invisible Collections

Why do I have to enable View all files to see my collections?
Surely all that needs to visible in Collections are one's collections [and not irrelevant Bridge Cache files], so why hide them because I do not wish to see, say the XMP files in my image folders. Surely they should be always visible by default as that's all you want or expect to see in there.

If you see the Bridge cache and XMP sidecars it probably because you have Show Hidden files enabled.

IBooks 3.2 does not show all Collections

After updating, the Collections list has most of my collections in the correct order, but the final ~20 are shown as blank lines in the list. When selected, it will not go to those shelves. Also, adding a new collection does not work. It almost appears like there is a limit on the number of collections allowed (I have probably 50). When I search for a book on one of those shelves, it then goes to that shelf and the correct names appears on top, but never shows up in Collections list. I can also swipe to adjacent shelves. I deleted the app and went to reinstall and it had 3.1.3 listed, so I reinstalled that instead. All my collections are now back as normal. I will not upgrade again until I hear this problem as been addressed.

More specific info on my iBook collections situation, my unofficial theory of the problem, and my temporary workaround:
Situation
I have exactly 220 iBook collections. All 220 are showing in the new iBooks app on my macbook pro (which is how I was able to count them all). On my iPad, however, only 131 collections are visible. The remaining 89 collections are "invisible" (showing up as blank lines at the bottom of the collection list) and are not selectable. I can tell that the "invisible" collections are still *there* because there are exactly 89 blank lines between the last listed collection and the "Add Category" line at the bottom of the list.
Unofficial Theory
This tells me that the new version of iBooks truncates the collection list to show only the first 128 USER-CREATED collections, "proven" as follows:
Of the 131 collections that are visible, 3 (Books, Purchased, PDFs) are "hard coded" and cannot be deleted, renamed, or moved. That leaves exactly 128 "user-created" collections visible.
Using the iBooks app on my macbook pro, I moved a collection up from #140 to #100. On my iPad, this new collection, now one of the top 128 user-created collections, shows up but the collection that had been128th (the last collection visible on the list) has now disappeared, keeping the number of visible user-created collections at 128.
I combined three of the visible collections into one. What had been the 129th and 130th user-created collections (both invisible) now became the 127th and 128th, and now show up as the last two visible collections on the list.
Temporary Workaround:
I can still access the "invisible" collections by either...
sideswiping from collection to collection until I get to the one I want, or
searching for a specific book within a collection, opening it and then shutting it, which then leaves me in that book's collection.
So, no, this isn't the dire emergency it seemed like late last night (I can still access all my books) but it still is damned annoying. Truly bush league sh*t. I really hope someone at Apple is working on a fix for this.

IBooks within Collections

We have a K-12 Public Site and would like to create a collection, which displays student-created iBooks. Unfortunately, it appears that the only way this works is to create a COURSE first. That is really not the best option for us. When will iTunes U Public Site Manager allow other file formats, such as iBooks, to be uploaded into a a collection?

Yes. I am guessing you had more than about 120 collections: this seems to be the new limit. The only way to resolve this is to reduce the number of collections. The books themselves are not missing, just sitting there in collections which iBooks cannot now display.
Consolidate books from visible collections by moving tham and deleting collections you have emptied. As you do this, more invisible collections will become visible until you have retrieved all your books.
I have described in another post what I think of this spectacularly rotten piece of Apple programming.

Collection Data Form in invisible mode.

We are using zcm 10.3 installed on SLES 11. Our clients are XP SP3. I have configured a collection data form with autofill and checked "Invisible mode for autofill only" In the autofill settings I have entered a environment variable. I have configured a Collection data form schedule to run "When a device is refreshed". The collection data form never pick up the environment variable value when running a refresh. When I right click on the ZenWorks notify icon and choose "Collection data form" the environment variable value configured in autofill is picked up.
Autofill worked well when refreshing a device in zcm 10.2.2.
Does anybody know if this is a known "bug"?

Collection Data Form Invisible Mode for Autofill Only

I am trying to use the Collection Data Form to get information from the registry. The following entry worked for a little bit and then stopped working: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\LastLoggedOnUser . Is this syntax correct? If not, what is the correct way to enter the registry key information?

According to the docs that is the correct syntax, but you could also try HKLM instead of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to see if it makes any difference...
Have you verified on the workstation that the LastLoggedOnUser key is not empty? Since you say that this have worked but suddenly stopped working then could it be that you have enable Interactive Logono not display last user name in the GPO for your workstations?

How to make Navigation Panel invisible on portal screen????

I need to create two roles ( X and Y ).
when the user is assgned role X: he should see standard portal screen
When user is assigned role Y: he should see customized portal screen.
Features of customized portal screen:
All features of portal should not be seen. The user should see only the iview and nothing else.
What I have done:
Created Role ( X and Y ) and respective iviews
With Framework page:
I copied standard framework page. made all iviews invisible except Desktop Innerpage.
I opend the Innerpage. I made all all iviews invisible except the Content Area.
With Desktop:
I create new desktop and assigned the new framework page to deaktop and made it default.
With Rule Collection: I created new rule collection where:
if Role = Y
display: new desktop
if role = X
display: default desktop
Result:
when I login with role X it shows default Desktop
Problem Area: When i login with ROLE Y, No portal feature is visible But We can still Expand and collapse Navigation panel.
Requirement: I do not want the user should see the navigation panel. It should not be visible on screen even though it is empty.
I tried lots almost all properties. Please help.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Then you have to create Role Y without workset or Page only with iViews, so no Navigation will be generated. :h1
But if you habe Workset and Page in your role , just go to all Page and workset and set this properties>navigation>Invisible in Navigation Areas to false.

How to get rid of invisible duplicate photos in iPhoto '09?

Hello All,
In the course of transfering my data from my external drive (clone of my iBook) to my new MacBook Pro, I transferred all the photos I had in iPhoto on the iBook.
Afterwards, I realized the photos on the clone version of iPhoto were not necessary as I had them backed up elsewhere, so I deleted them all in iPhoto (on the MBP) in order to start a fresh library.
To do this I selected them all and hit the delete key.
Yet somehow, my iPhoto library still showed 9 GB of data.
But where are the photos?
I thought they might still be in iPhoto trash, but the empty trash feature is grayed out....
So then Idecided to import a smaller collection of photos from my iBook directly to the MBP. iPhoto asked what I wanted to do with duplicates and I indicated not to import (apply to all).
Now, my new iPhoto library is 12 GB, i.e. the deleted 9 GB + these additional photos...
After reading some forum messages I installed the Services add-on that lets you see the contents of your iPhoto library, and almost every photo is duplicated!
Yet in my iPhoto window, only one copy of each shows.
How can I get rid of these invisible duplicates?

Thank you, that sounds like a good solution, except.... I've already begun erasing and reformatting my iBook drive, so I no longer have a separate copy of the photos I wanted to keep; they're in the iPhoto '09 library, along with duplicates...
Is there no way to "weed out" duplicates ?

Trying to understand Javascript collection numbers

I found this bit in the Adobe introduction to scripting:
JS collection numbers are static; they don’t shift when you add a new object to the collection. Object
numbering in JS indicates the order in which the objects were added to the collection. Because the
first object you added was assigned the number 0, the next object you add to the collection is number
1; if you add a third object, it is number 2. For example, when you add a document, the document
automatically contains a layer. The layer’s index is [0]. If you add a layer, the new layer’s index is [1]; if
you add a second layer, its index is [2]. If you drag layer [2] to the bottom position in the Layers palette,
it still has index [2].
If I understand this correctly the original layer is always layer[0], however when I try this slightly modified script from later in the guide:

If your document has no groups, then doc.layers and doc.artLayers will be the same. But if you groups then doc.layers will give all
art layers in the doc root
the groups you have an doc root
any art layers and sub groups in the root level groups.
I.e. doc.layers will return the full document hierarchy as a flat list, but the order that list is not guaranteed to be something (as far as I know). Most likely order is always the visual top to bottom. I.e. item 0 is always the visually topmost element.
Also note that if you use doc.layers, you need to check if the item is a layer or a group (=folder=layerset). That's why you also have the collections .artLayers and .layerSets that give just layers and groups respectfully.

ITunes U API GetDailyReportLogs not tracking new Collections?

I have discovered the analytic data I am retrieving from the iTunes U API GetDailyReportLogs is not tracking any iTunes U Collections we have created after about Jan 2014 but Collections created earlier are tracking OK. We often publish items (video and audio) to multiple iTunes U Collections. I have been getting iTunes U usage data with GetDailyReportLogs since 2009 and only now realised, we are not getting all the usage information. Some questions:

"...unfortunately we have depreciated the GetDailyReportLogs for iTunes U Public Site Manager sites some time ago. As such it will only work for collections that were built in our older infrastructure and any collections built recently utilise different resources and are sadly invisible to the GetDailyReportLogs action.
However, I was assured that the current reporting functions on PSM do include both types of collections (old and new) and that is the best one to use."

Some MP3 songs Invisible to iTunes - Repeatable Problem!

This may sound familiar to avid readers of this forum, but I haven't gotten any of the previously offered solutions to work for me.
I have spent countless hours over the past two years ripping/digitizing my embarasingly-huge CD and LP collections to MP3s so I can use them with my iPod and whole-house media server. And yes, they are all valid MP3s- no AAC, WMA, or anything else. I used several different methods, bitrates and programs for putting together my MP3 collection, but all are of songs from CDs or LPs that I legally own. For the last year or so, I have successfully used Windows Media Player and MusicMatch for organizing and playing my files- and everything still works fine when I use these programs.
But a few months ago I got a 40GB iPod and have been struggling to use iTunes with my MP3 collection ever since. The problem is that about 20% of my collection seem to be completely invisible to iTunes (v6). I first noticed this when MusicMatch (and Windows) reported that I have several thousand more files than iTunes reports.
I've isolated the problematic files by copying my entire MP3 collection to a new, empty folder, instructing iTunes to add the entire folder to the iTunes Library, and then telling iTunes to remove all songs it knows about and send the files to the recycle bin. I then took a look at the folder and was shocked to find it still contained thousands of my MP3 files, even though the Library showed it was empty! I then tried adding these files back into the iTunes Library. iTunes said "Adding... " while quickly scrolling the file names in the window. But when it was done, none of these files appeard in the Library.
What's up with THAT??!!
I have verified that all of these files have apparently-valid ID3v2 tags. Removing any ID3v1 (but leaving the v2) tags does not help.
Re-ripping the songs from CD using the latest version of iTunes, MusicMatch or Roxio does appear to solve the problem- but the thought of re-ripping every song a second time from hundreds of my CDs is very unappealing. I'd rather just not use iTunes at all than to do that. As I mentioned earlier, MusicMatch and Windows Media Player have absoluetly no problem with these files.
I've even tried re-tagging every file with MusicMatch "super tagging", but this made no difference.
I'm running out of ideas. Does anyone have any idea what may be going on here, and how to fix it? I'd really like to get iTunes working for me without having to re-rip my apparently-okay files.
I'd be happy to e-mail a short (20 second) test MP3 file that is invisible to iTunes to anyone who sends me their e-mail address and thinks that they can help.

Similar problem but it's not always the same song or same cutoff point and mine are MP3. Plus, it happens to songs that I imported from CD using iTunes. We have 2 Nanos in the household and it has never happened on them. I finally sprung for the 160GB and am now experiencing it. There are several other forums discussing the same thing!

Ps edited images not visible under keywords or in collections

Images I edit in PS no longer show up back in the catalog with the orignal under keyword or in a collection. I can find them when I go back to the orginal folder by the date the original was shot, but I don't work from the folders because that's not how my projects are organized, so they end up being pretty much invisible to me. when I locate them in the folders, the ps edited image has the same keywords as the original and is in the collection I was working on, but I can't view it when I choose that keywork or the collection. It shows there is a second image but won't allow you to see it, unless you go to folders. Is this something in a new version of lightroom, because my ps edited images have always been visible before, next to the orginal within a catalog or by a keyword. Is there something different you need to do for that to happen now?

I am a convert from MS Expression Web to DW and loving it. I
am still learning the ropes however of this app.
I have figured out how to create HTML forms and used some
Spry in the process. I add a submit button and tested it. No errors
occurred so I figured I am fine so far, but how do I config the
form to email me the results of what my site visitors enter? I got
it to post to a another page, but that does not send the info to
me. So how do I do that part?

La réponse est oui et non. Il est possible de rendre différentes commandes dans un faisceau évidentes et invisibles. Cependant, ce n'est pas le même pour des rangées. Une rangée est une collection d'articles avec le SEUL differnce étant valeur. Tellement toutes les propriétés de chaque élément doivent être identiques. Vous pouvez programaticaly changer les propriétés de l'élément de rangée, mais notez que c'est élément. Une rangée n'a pas une collection d'éléments qu'elle a 1 élément et un groupe de valeurs. Imaginez la mémoire qui serait nécessaire si chaque propriété simple de chaque index devait être stockée. Ainsi vous pourriez rendre tous des commandes numeric1 invisibles, mais elle sera pour chaque faisceau. Vous ne pouvez pas la rendre évidente à l'index 1 et invisible à l'index 2.

We have a job for which we created Invisible indexes. We use the ALTER SESSSION SET OPTIMIZER_USE_INVISIBLE_INDEXES = TRUE; Howerver our job is still not picking the indexes.
The Job is run as a People Soft Process. We have tried other session commands in the past and they have been working fine. Other than using /*+ index(table index) */ HINT is there another way to make sure invisible indexes are used.

No - Oracle isn't going to use ANY index unless that is the lowest cost optimizer plan. Why would you want to use an index if there is a lower cost option?
