Invisible dot window in exposé

For a few boots now I have found an empty space the size of a medium-large window with a dot above the title space which cannot be easily clicked, I can scroll to select it but when I do so it does not change application. Quitting all apps does not get rid of it and it doesn't belong to an app's exposé. Please help identify this mysterious object.

  • Mysterious Safari Window in Exposé

While using Safari (3.2.1), upon the activation of Exposé, a small, invisible window is revealed. It can only be seen in highlighted-blue when the mouse is over it, and it never appears in the 'space' that Safari is initially opened in. When I click on it, Exposé exits like normal, but Safari becomes the active application. The cryptic nature of this phenomenon seems devised and raised my concern. Has anyone else encountered this invisible Safari window in Exposé? It's small, and you have to hunt for it. Thanks in advance.

  • Making .ds files invisible on windows server

Is there a way to make the .ds files invisible to windows users on a ms windows server?
Mixed Mac and PC environment - can't get through to PC users that they should not try to open these files!

Sounds like malware or a OS X glitch that keeps placing the hidden OS X files on Windows volumes
Remove the user data, delete the account and re-establish it and the data.
If it's contained in the user account that should clear it, if not, wipe the machine and reinstall OS X from a clone or reinstall by hand.
There is software that will prevent OS X from placing it's hidden files on Windows volumes, however interaction with OS X is wonky afterwards.

There is no Exposé in OS X Mountian Lion, Apple removed it for "Mission Control" and yes it is a confusing mess.

  • What's this blue dot that engages Exposé?

I don't recall this dot ever appearing on any other user desktop, but suddenly yesterday I logged in as root and there it is. It seems to engage Exposé (showing windows of whatever application I'm focused on)
It's interesting but I didn't even see an option in the system preferences for it and maybe I'd want to turn it on for my normal user.

It's called the Blob. See Exposé (Mac OS X) . See Expose the Exposé Blob to learn how to disable it.

  • Bug or Feature? Minimized Windows and Exposé

I've recently noticed some very strange behavior when I use exposé with windows minimized and applications hidden.
When applications are hidden, their windows do not appear in exposé, which seems reasonable.
But windows that were minimized before hiding the application continue to appear in exposé even while they are not shown in the dock.
Is this normal behavior? It's irking the **** out of me.

yes, it's normal behavior. minimized windows show up in exposé but are smaller than non minimized windows. Personally, I like it that way. and when you choose the option to minimize to the application this is the easiest way to unminimize them. but if you are not happy with this you can send apple feedback on the issue

  • Re. Moving invisible dot file into limbo

I decided to move out a .vbt5 file from the root folder to the Desktop. (The .vbt5 was a remnant of a Virus Barrier installation -- how it got there is another story, since I never installed anything Intego. Must have been migrated from an inherited Leopard G5. Nothing else Intego is showing anywhere. Just that.)
(I know I could have just moved the .vbt5 to the Trash using the Finder, which is what I eventually did, in fact. But I wanted to preserve it somewhere.)
    Here's what happened:
First made all files visible from Terminal. Then
sudo cp -p /.vbt5 ~/Desktop    (My intent here was to put a copy on the Desktop, then trash the origiinal at root.)
Result: didn't see a copy on the Desktop. Original is still in the root folder. Remember, all hidden files/folders are visible.
    Next
    sudo mv /.vbt5 ~/Desktop
Still nada and EasyFind set to show all invisible doesn't see it anywhere, not even in the root folder, so that part worked. It appears to have disappeared into thin air, but it went somewhere.
So, next decide to move it back to the root folder from wherever, even though it never showed up on the Desktop and EF doesn't see it anywhere.
    sudo mv ~/Desktop/.vbt5 /
Guess what. With this last command, it shows up back in the root folder. Question: where was it before I moved it back. Why, with hidden files/folders showing, didn't it show up on the Desktop when I moved it there? It was nowhere to be seen, but it obediently went back to the root folder when I moved it back there.
Obviously, something I'm not understanding about the behavior of hidden dot files.

OK, I think I may have this figured out. For security, I'm running standard. So in order to sudo I have to su to my admin user. If I ls -a from my admin, it shows up. If I ls -a from my standard user, it doesn't show. Finder isn't seeing it because it's only seeing my standard user. That was the giveaway. I'm guessing it's getting moved to my admin user Desktop. Don't at the moment feel like logging in over there to confirm this, but I'm pretty certain this is what's happening.
One of a number of small PITA of running standard and having to su to do certain things.
Thanks, your involvement was helpful and got me started on the right track.

  • All browser chrome (tab switcher, awesomebar, toolbars) sometimes turn invisible when window is inactive

All the browser chrome including the tab switcher, awesomebar, firefox menu, and toolbars, but not the standard minimize/unmaximize/close buttons, will sometimes turn invisible while the window is inactive.
Clicking back into the window restores them. I have a dual monitor setup, and firefox is maximized on one monitor while I'm working on other applications in the other.
This is an intermittent problem, and has been happening for about a week now, starting from a fresh install of Firefox with a clean profile.

  • Terminal - red dot 'window' only on launch

    Hi,
funny new Terminal glitch - Tiger 10.4.3 Mac - otherwise healthy computer -
    1. launch Terminal
    2. tiny chunk of window displays- the area slightly around the red dot (close window button). New Shell command just creates another one of these (they look very weird !)
    3. deleting Terminal prefs file- doesnt fix this
    4. logout/back in - nope
    5. restart - no fix em
    6. copy a known working Terminal app from another 10.4.3 Mac- no go
    7. copy a know working Termina.app pref file to the troubled Mac - still no go
anyone else see this before ?
    Cheers,
    Chris Chamberlain

As I recall, this kind of problem can result from a missing/disabled font.
    (What was it? Monaco?)
    Have you changed anything font-wise?

  • Invisible FInder Window

A Leopard oddity: if I use the keyboard command, ⌘-`, to switch between Finder windows, at some point in the cycle there is no Finder window selected !! All the open Finder windows are light grey. Instead, cursor keys move between (most) objects on the Desktop ! Pressing F11 makes this apparent. But is this a bug or a feature ? What is the logic behind this behavior ? It completely escapes me. I was completely surprised.

This is akin to the Windows Vista behavior of including "Desktop" when cycling through windows with Alt+Tab or Windows+Tab. Since the Desktop is basically a Finder window splayed out behind all your other windows (for example, clicking the Desktop changes the active app to the Finder), the idea was probably to include it along with all the other Finder windows while cycling through.
It probably makes it a bit easier to access the Desktop with one's keyboard.

  • Invisible dot on the touch?

This WILL sound dumb but, i was in car today using my ipod touch, and when i tilted the screen in a certain direction, the sun shined on it in a way that, in the top left corner, in the black surrounding on the glass, is like a dot, only visible when shown in the sun like that. Now ive seen this before on my mobile phone, i have a light that flashes when bluetooth is on. I havent heard anything about it, but am i right in saying that its the ambient light sensor?

Yeah you're right. That's the sensor for auto-brightness.

  • New (Refurbished) Nano invisible to Windows

I just received a refurbished nano I bought from apple. I cannot get it to charge at all. I am using a PC with Windows XP (home, SP2) on which I use Itunes and trying the same USB I use to connect & charge a shuffle I've had for months. Have tried all USB's and even a second Windows PC. It sat for 5h and the nano screen still shows nothing (no battery charging indicator). Windows does not show it as a connected device. I did install from the CD shipped with the nano and also tried downloading the latest update installer. I apologize if I missed any threads with the answers...I have been searching them for a clue.
    Any ideas?

Firmware was outdated. Had to take it to the apple store to have the firmware upgraded and it works fine now.

  • How can I make invisible the menu "window" on oracle webforms

anybody can tell me how can I make invisible menu "window" that appears on webforms?
    Thanks in advanced.

    Hi Andrew,
Thank you for looking at my problem!
Both my development system and test system are Window XP. The font size are all set to Normal. What other details do you need to know?
The text on front panel shows well on my development machine. But when the .exe runs on my test machine, the text size was not adjusted by itself so the text body got cut off.
I found a way to "fix" this problem: I had to drag the text box down and right so there is enough magin between the text body and the box on the right and at the bottom. I had to try it a few times until it finally shows well on my test machine. However, with those magins, it doesn't look nice on my development machine anymore. Also, I only tried on one test machine, if it looks good on one test machine, will it look good on all the other machines? Eventually my app is going to run on Window 7. I'll have to test that out and find out if it's still going to be a problem. Anyway, I don't feel this is the right way to do it. I hope someone knows what I'm talking about and have a soluction to it.
    Thanks very much!
