Invisible iCal

Hello, so I did some comparing of different calendar applications: iCal, Sunbird, etc. I made a folder inside the applications folder in which I stored iCal, among other things for organization. I did nothing else to iCal.
So I decided to use iCal, and put in the dock. when I quit iCal the iCal icon lost the "calendar" backdrop and only retained the "MAY 31" text which usually sits inside the calendar icon. When I click the icon, the backdrop returns to normal until I quit, when it again vanishes.
It looks rather mysterious, and is fully functional, but I don't like that its doing this.
What should I do? I've tried removing and re-adding the icon. Should I reinstall iCal?

argos12,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I made a folder inside the applications folder in which I stored iCal, among other things for organization.
Generally speaking it is not advisable to reorganize Apple supplied applications. System updates will not find the application when an update is applied.
What should I do?
Try a Safe Boot, and after the Safe Boot restart as specified. If that is unsuccessful, find the com.apple.dock.plist in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences folder, drag it to your Desktop, log out/in or restart and check for normal appearance. Be aware that the Dock will return to default appearance after removing the Dock .plist file.
Should I reinstall iCal?
No

  • Invisible iCal in dock

    3 problems with iCal:
1)I recently reinstalled OS Leopard because my HDD was acting strangely. I replaced it with a new one & all the reinstall seems to be working well. BUT the icon for iCal, in the dock, has an invisible background(the red & white pad with the rings) until it is opened—then everything seems normal. However, before clicking on the icon(opening iCal), only the month & date are present as expected.
2)Also! When the program first opens, with all of the calendars checked, there are no events shown. However, when I uncheck any one of them, the events appear! And when I re-check the unchecked one these events also appear(as expected).
3)Double-clicking an event or creating a new event opens the window as expected but the colors of the window seem to be reversed! — The background for all event pull up menus is black with navy blue titles & dim white clickables—barely legible.
    Help!

    See this:

It appears the answer to your question is 'Yes', the ghost icon has been seen before.  No answer as to cause but fix is to remove from dock, go to Applications and drag the application icon back to the dock.
Hope this fixes it for you.

  • Anyone figured out how to run iCal completely invisible?

Has anyone figured out how to run iCal completely invisible on Snow Leopard -- not just minimized on the dock, but completely hidden.  The goal is to be able to press Comamnd+Tab and NOT see iCal.

I too have a KRZR K1M that I received two days ago as a "gift' from Verizon in exchange for renewing my contract for 2 years. I had a RAZR that I had been able to sync with iCal after I edited the metaclass.plist file for that phone. I would then have to delete and re-add the RAZR each time I resynched in order to select the option I wanted from the iSync dialog window. If I "merge[d] data," the calendars on both my mac and my phone would fill quickly with duplicate entries. As for the KRZR, i have tried several times to add and sync this phone to the mac. It worked only once, and I was able to get the mac to write a years worth of events into the phone, but no matter what i do, i have not been able to repeat the process for my ical events. I use the VZW backup assistant for my contacts, just to be safe. I would like very much for Verizon and Apple to get together on the iSync issue. Verizon tech support told me only moments ago that the only phone they offer that will sunc with iCal is either a Treo or a Blackberry. And they aren't handing out either of them for free any time soon.

  • ICal repeating events become invisible if using Exchange 2010

I recently upgraded from Exchange 2007 server to Exchange 2010.
I had PREVIOUSLY been impressed by well iCal under Snow Leopard worked with Exchange Server. Everything was great. But, after upgrading to Exch 2010, many of my repeating calendar items became invisible in iCal.
I did some searching on the Internet, and found I am not alone. My service provider support desk was also able to reproduce on their end.
    Steps:
Connect to an Exchange 2010 account using Snow Leopard iCal.
RESULT: All repeating calendar with end dates will be missing.
Workaround: Remove the end date, or use a fixed number of repetitions rather than and end date.
Another Workaround: Get Entourage to sync to Exchange, then get Entourage to sync with iCal. OK, but there seems to be some bugs there too where things don't always sync right.
Since most people use repeating events, Mac users should avoid upgrading to Exchange 2010 for now.

  • How do i change font sizes and colors in ical in OS Lion.  Everything is greyed and too small.   And how do I changed the color of the scroll bars, which are now invisible?

how do i change font sizes and colors in ical in OS Lion. Since upgrading,  all fonts are grey, instead of black,  and too small.   And how do I changed the color of the scroll bars, which also are grey and almost invisible?  And if you can asnwer this, can you tell me how to get back the email format I had before the upgrade?  I no longer have column headings and I'd like them.  Thank you.

Do you know about changing the font colors for ical, and the color of the scroll bars?
No, I don't. I don't use that program; I fiddled with it just now, and could not find a way to do that.
Perhaps someone else will have an idea.

  • ICal 6 colours faded almost invisible

Over the past couple of weeks the colours on my Ical 6 have become almost indecipherable . washed out or invisible
For example  in the Monthly view the weeklong events are almost invisible unless one clicks on them which rather defeats the purpose of a calendar as one is faced with a blank page rather than a detailed breakdown of events.
any thoughts on how to rectify this?
    thankyou in advance

Did anyone have you run the Apple hardware test? Find your original OS X CDs, and on one, likely the first one, it will say in small print 'AHT Version x.x' on the label. Insert it, and reboot holding the option key down. Choose the Apple hardware test, click the arrow to the right, and when prompted choose the extended test. If you have either of the TechTools programs, they can do a similar test. Does that high light any video, or other, issues?
Another thing you can try is to reinstall the latest combo release for the operating system. Sometimes that can clear up a software-related bug without having to install the entire operating system again. Long shot, won't hurt anything, but might help. The 10.5.4 combo update is at http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1054comboupdate .html , and if you want to update to a higher level, you can install higher level combo update, as the combo update contains all prior updates, within that version of the operating system, in this case Leopard.

  • ICal info invisible on iPad

After I updated to a new computer, all my information on my iPad iCal disappeared.  I can't see or add anything.  However, it synced up to my computer.  So, the info is on my computer and iCloud is working.  And, obviously, it is still on my iPad, just invisible.... Help!

Thanks Roger.  I had set it up correctly on the computer, but kept going to the calendar settings on my iPad instead of iCloud.  You hit the nail on the head.  The iCloud on my iPad was not set to sync the calendar.  Strangely, my calendar wasn't working at all.  I couldn't add events either because there was no plus sign.  As soon as I set up the iCloud correctly, everything went onto the iPad and I got my plus sign back. Phew!  I primarily use my iCal on my iPad, so I wasn't sure what to do.  Thank you!

  • ICal new events are invisible

    iCal Version 5.0.3 (1605.4) on MacOS 10.7.5
When I double click on iCal on iMac i don't see the new event but I can see it on other Apple devices.
    WHY??????

I am seeing a similar issue.
iCal in Lion (10.7.1) definitely fails to show many events that I have added to my MobileMe calendars, from an iPhone and iPad, as well as from the Mac itself.
I have entered new events directly into iCal, and watched them disappear before my eyes.
These events do show up in the MobileMe web interface, as well as on an iPhone and iPad. But, very often, not in the Lion version of iCal.

  • Events not showing in iCal, but do on my iTouch Calendar

I am syncing my iCal 3.0.7 with GoogleCalendar using Calgoo connect 2.1.3. It uploads new events to my gCal, but if I create new events in gCal, they won't show up on iCal. I thought this was a Calgoo problem, but when I sync my iTouch with my computer, the invisible events will become visible on the iTouch, but still invisible on iCal.
Any ideas? Is there a setting on iCal to make certain events within a calendar invisible that I'm missing? All the "hide to do" options in iCal preferences are unchecked.

I found this solution in another discussion. It's from this website: http://iphonewriter.blogspot.co.nz/2008/05/how-to-fixing-ical-iphone-sync-issues .html)
"You'll know the syncing issue when you see it, because the new events you enter into the Calendar on your Apple iPhone will not appear in iCal. Said another way, you'll enter a new event into your iPhone, use iTunes to sync with your Mac (or MacBook in our case) and the new event on your iPhone will not show up in iCal. Keep trying, synch as you might, iCal and the Apple iPhone just won't get along.
Here's the down and dirty fix:
Open iCal and backup or export your entries. Make a note of the fie name and location, you're going to need them in a minute. Once your backup/export is completed, close the iCal application.
Open Finder and remove everything inside the "Username/Library/Calendars" folder. For instance, if your username is "Joe", then move everything inside the "Joe/Library/Calendars" folder.
Open the iSync application. It's located in the "/Applications/" folder. Once iSync is opened, go into the iSync Preferences (iSync -> Preferences) and push/click the "Reset Sync History" button. Then, close the iSync application.
Re-Open the iCal application and Restore your calendar. When prompted, use your notes from Step #1 to select the file your created earlier.
At this point all my appointments were showing up properly in iCal, and did not disappear after syncing again with the iPhone.

  • Reasons why iCal Server can't be my company's calendar server

I want to believe. I don't want to use Exchange. But after testing iCal server and iCal 3 for a few days, I've found it's not going to cut it for us- a 60 person creative agency. Here's why:
-There's no concept of "blocks time". So, let's say I don't want the office to know that I'm going to a job interview, but I do need to block out the time so nobody tries to schedule me to a meeting. In other systems, I can make a private event, and have it block time. In iCal, locally stored events (which are therefore private), are invisible to the network. I can't have my time reserved without announcing why. Sneaky code phrases are possible, but shouldn't be needed.
Similarly, I can't define if an "all day" event keeps me busy or not. I'd be inclined to list a week's vacation as an all day event starting on Monday and ending on Friday. But for co-workers to see that I'm gone in scheduling, I have to list it as an event from 8A on Monday to 5P on Friday.
-There isn't any group support. Perhaps I have a project team of the same 6 people. There's no way to group those 6 under a heading, and check their meeting availability all at once- you can only invite individuals. The Address Panel has 3 of the 4 headings of Directory.app, but no Groups. Every time this project team gets together, I have to add the same people.
I would think I could make a group in Address Book, but that's not working.
-Delegation is all or nothing. I can't delegate that co-workers can see one of my public calendars, but not the other.
-The Availability Panel can't show what events are blocking someone's time. You have to have them turned on in the iCal view to know that.
Please, please tell me there are just things I don't get about iCal3/iCal server, and if I just did things differently, I'd be OK. Is there something I'm missing, or is this really how it works?
(This was also submitted to apple.com/feedback, and [email protected])

    Maximilian Reiss wrote:
Hi - haven`t looked yet at point 1 and 4, but also dislike point 2 and 3. Actually, afaik point 2 (individual delegation) is just a iCal (client) GUI limitation. I think the server would support it.
Group support regarding the client side is more or less there, just not in the new address panel. If you type the group name in the invitee field while editing an event you get the group.
I hope you filed bugreports for that at bugreport.apple.com
OK, here's another one. Window: Address Panel magically changes format for reasons I can't see. When I started this thread, I was in "Open Directory Lookup" mode of Address Panel. When you're here, you're only pulling addresses from OD.
When I returned to playing with iCal this morning, Address Panel was bringing back Address Book entries. When it's this way, yes, you can have a group defined in Address Book, and use that group as a shortcut to invite multiple people.
During the process of experimenting, Address Panel somehow reverted to Open Directory lookups. I'm not clear what controls this behavior.
So, yes, you can use Window: Address Book to pull up AddressBook.app, and drag a group from there into your invitee window. But is there a more integrated way (where leaving iCal isn't required) to invite a local group?

  • Printing times in ical

How can I get iCal to NOT print the time of an event? I entered the event as an all-day event and it prints it with a time in front (eg. "11:00AM Meeting"). I want it to just print "Meeting." Please help!

IT'S A DRAG, in v.2.0.5 they didn't think of an option to turn off the time. If you turn it off in Prefs, it still prints the UNWANTED TIME, wasting space. There's also the problem of the invisible last line of text.... you have to add extra spaces and a dot or whatever to make the line visible. AMAZINGLY they left it this way with no update fixes.... mediocrity is alive and well @ Apple! Try the Google calendar, or maybe Mozilla?

  • A multi-day/all-day event in the iCloud calendar does not show up in iCal if the "all-day" box is checked

When I establish a multi-day event on iCloud but do not check the "all-day" box it shows up just fine in iCal as an event that exists on each day along side the other events that occupy those dates.  However, when I check the "all-day" box when editing the event (in either calendar) the event completely disappears from the iCal calendar (it shows up across the top of the iCloud calendar in the "all-day eventt" line.  On my iPhone, there is no change in appearance (the event shows up on each day).
Anybody have a clue what causes this?  Maybe just a "feature" of iCal beta?

This is exactly what's happening to me. I've been able to recreate this on a Touch also with OS4. It's not occuring on OS3. I've only been able to recreate the problem on July 30th and August 1st calendar dates for some reason. It may be happening on other dates also but I havn't been able to find any.
To recreate the problem go into day view on the calendar. Go to August 1st and create a calendar entry. Then touch the left arrow to go back a day then touch the right arrow to return to august 1st and your entry is invisible. It's still there because if you go forward a day then go back a day it shows.
I've been using list view only now to avoid missing these invisible entries.

  • Can't rename event in iCal?

    Hi everyone!
We're having quite a problem at our company common iCal. Aprox 20 different calendars are created and most is in use 5/7 days a week.
During last week we suddenly discovered a new issue - we couldn't create new events. When double clicking to create a new, others disappeared, but luckily now a few days after (and now with a brand new iMac) the case is that events can now be created, but it's impossible to rename when doubleclicking the event to edit it, however when hitting ctrl+mouseclick and "get info" it is possible to edit the calendar.
Edit: After a little time fiddling around with the calendar it is now clear to me, that the new events was created, but was invisible. Also, I can see, that some of the time, not all the calendars are visible, even though they're checked to be visible.
Anyone have discovered the same issue or know a solution?
    Any help is appreciated!!!!!!

  • Help! New event text is invisible in subscribed calendar...

A little over a year ago, I set up a private webDAV server here in my office to act as a host for department calendars we could all publish/subscribe to. That has worked with great success, until now. Several people are publishing cals, and the main department calendar is being published by one of our art directors. She has recently switched to a Macbook Pro running 10.4.5 and iCal 2.0.3.
For some reason, when we republish this calendar from the new mac, it shows up with the right name and there are events showing to all the subscribers, but all the text is invisible. The events simply show up as colored bullets with no text, or a solid colored bar for 'all day' events.
Has anyone experienced this and found remedy? Any ideas for me?
The enviornment is about 20 macs (G5's and intels) running either 10.3.9 or 10.4.5, and the iCal 'server' computer is a G4 Quicksilver on 10.3.9 and iCal 1.5.5
Thanks in advance for any ideas-
    Sean

John, that was it. I think i was looking for something way more complicated than that. Very simple. Thanks so much for taking the time to chime in. I hope to stick around the forums here and maybe have something to contribute. Thanks again-

  • ICal Alarm Window Mostly Off Screen

When an alarm window pops up I can barely see it. Only a little bit of the window is visible as the rest if off the screen. I can drag it into the screen. It will stay there. But every time a new alarm window pops up its in the same position mostly off the screen. How do I get this alarm window to open so it's visible on my screen?

It's good to see that I'm not the only one. I did just recently install a bunch of Software Updates, so I wonder if this is related to one of those.
An additional issue I'm now having: the Info panel that used to pop up when double-clicking on an Event is now completely invisible. I've been hunting around the edges of the screen, but it doesn't show. The main iCal window changes color to indicate that another window is active, somewhere; it just can't be found. Interestingly, the Info panel will appear if I view my windows using Expose. There it is, perfectly rendered and in the right place, beyond the reach of my mouse clicks.
It's very frustrating. I was pretty close to switching to Gmail for all my calendaring; if this isn't resolved in the next few days, I think it's time for the switch.
