Invisible or semi-invisible posts :)

I mentioned this in an unrelated thread but several responses down so doubt any/many saw it.
Don't know if this is practical or desirable, but what if there was a way to mark a post as invisible.
What do I mean by that you ask?
What if I could reply to a post and mark it as invisible. An e-mail notification with my response would go out to anyone that is watching the topic, but would not result in a visible post to the forum.
Might be useful for something where I just wanted to seek a clarification about someone else's response, suggest a change/correction to their response. Sometimes I make a mistake (don't mean a typo, but bad/incomplete answer - rare but does happen, or maybe I just misinterpreted the original question)) and this way someone could let me know to clarify/correct/expand my earlier response with out having to add more posts to the thread.
Maybe instead of calling this an invisible post, maybe it should be considered a "Notify Topic Watchers".
Anyone else think of a way to use something like this?
One problem might be that some folks would mark something invisible that really should be part of the visible thread. Now what do you do?

Designating a posted response as comment is another idea. Think if it was available, a color scheme as you describe would be desirable. Default would probably be need to be to NOT display comments. I think you're right, that displaying comments might start to make things confusing. What is or is not a comment? I really envisioned it is a mechanism to communicate more directly with folks specifically watching the thread.
Here's another possible use, and I'm not sure if it doesn't go against the purpose of sharing information:
Often you see a post where someone offers to email something to someone, and then the next thing you know 18 other people respond that they want the document too. The next thing you know, you are running a customer fufillment operation trying to keep up with requests for documents. An invisible post could be used to limit the visibility of such an offer to e-mail something, by restricting it to those that either participated in the topic, or thought it worthwhile enough to "Watch" it.

If you have left the cover on the back then of course you are 100% comfortable with the shield. Did you even read my initial post? If you take the cover off the back, it will take the lettering with it. How you can possibly call this an isolated incident if you have not removed the back cover?????

Indexes can be visible or invisible. An invisible index is maintained by DML operations and cannot be used by the optimizer. Actually takes space, but is not to be used as part of a potential access path.
AFAIK, a virtual index is created by the tools used in SQL statement access path tuning to provide an alternative for the optimizer to test. It does not take any real space as it is a pure in memory definition.

How to make a loop that changes two different movieclips from visible to invisible every second

I am writing some code that puzzles me. It may be, because I have a cold or because I've never needed to do anything like this. I want to have two movieclips one is visible and one is not. then one second passes the one that was visible is invisible and the invisible one is visible. What would be the best approach to this, besides handcoding if statements. I know there has to be a faster way and less expensive way than handcoding if statements.
I'd like to thank anyone who replies in advance .

Icons in menu bar and standard menus are invisible!

I'm having an issue with OS X 10.8.2 on my 15" (not Retina) Macbook Pro (late 2011, Core i7 2.4 GHz w/ 16GB RAM and SSD);
The majority of system icons in the menu bar "extras" area (that is, to the right near the date/time in the menu bar) are blank. The area where the icon would be located is responsive to clicks, and drops a menu item down upon click, but the icons themselves are invisible. The same goes for Spotlight which has a spot for it's icon and responds to the hotkey of Apple + Spacebar, but the icon itself is invisible. The only icons that are visible are third party programs that run and place themselves there such as Little Snitch, and the battery low ("red" battery) indicator icon; other battery icons are invisible.
Also invisible/blank are the icons for going back and forward in a Finder window as well as the back/forward icons in System Preferences sub-dialogs. The icons for choosing labels, changing the way Finder windows display (their view options), and a few others that I cannot name as I cannot see them are invisible as well. Icons that would normally display to the left of "All My Files", "AirDrop", "Applications", "Desktop", et cetera in the Finder window do not display, either.
I have tried installing the 10.8.2 Combo Update and using the Disk Utility "Repair" and "Verify" Filesystem options but neither fixed the issue. I have tried deleting the cached plist files for the SystemUIServer as well but there was no change in the icon display (or, that is, lack of display!).
I am running Mac OS X 10.8.2 (including the Combined Update) on the late-2011 Macbook Pro 15" w/ 2.4 GHz Core i7 (default 4GB memory and 750gb HDD; upgraded to 16GB of RAM and a Crucial M4 256GB SSD). I cannot recall if the problem started after I updated any system software or not; I upgraded to 10.8.2 via buying OS X Mountain Lion from the App Store so that I would have a copy on USB to install after replacing my HDD with my SSD. Everything worked fine on fresh installation, and I am not sure at what point the icons disappeared.
Does anyone have any insight into this problem, and more importantly, how to correct it? Please see the screenshots below for a proper illustration of the problem I am experiencing. The sole icon visible, with the two columns, is Little Snitch 3.0.

I have a similar issue. When the computer goes into "Hibernate" mode -- that is, it loses power while sleeping and it writes the contents of it's memory to disk in order to boot into that exact configuration when woken up -- many of my icons when Apple-Tab'ing to another application appear as static. They look like a slightly colorized version of the "static snow" you see when tuning into a station that doesn't exist on a UHF antenna television. Also, icons in Chrome such as web sites "favorite icons" or favicon.ico (the icons that appear in the URL bar and bookmarks) will be scrambled in the same fashion , at first , until the actual icon is loaded.
Between this, my menu bar and finder icons not displaying, and being unable to boot into safe mode, I'm getting quite ******. I have no idea what the **** is going on with my Macbook Pro. The issue of the scrambled icons actually existed prior to installing an SSD and doing a fresh install of Mountain Lion. I may end up throwing in the towl and re-installing the operating system but I'm sure SOMETHING will happen. It seems the latest update, 10.8.2, is absolute garbage.
What the ****, Apple? And I really don't want to take the computer to the morons at the Apple Store. They are not "geniuses" by any measure.

Generating pdfs with invisible sections made visible through code

I have a survey with several question that are either visible or hidden based on the user's selection from a Yes/No radio button group. The user can then either submit the survey by e-mail or print the survey. If the user prints the survey before submission, all of the invisible portions that the user's input has rendered visible are included in the printed copy; however, when the pdf is generated to be attached to the e-mail submission or saved using the Save As option, the elements that were made visible by code are not included in the pdf. The following is the code being used in the Yes radio button:

Button1 is invisible and layered under the visible e-mail submit button. It actually submits the pdf by e-mail. The visible button performs a test and displays a message to the user if the user's survey answers fail. I have also tried "hidden" in all of the areas that are listed as "invisible".
What should be added or changed so that the invisible elements of the survey that are rendered visible by code can be seen in the pdf of the survey. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

There is a setting that indicates to save the changes amde via code to the form when saved. In Designer goto the File/Form Properties/Defaults and ensure that the Radiobutton named Automatically under the Preserve Scripting changes to form when saved is set on.

Invisible and Visible

I want my user to select one of three radio buttons and have a drop down list appear as a result. For each selection there is a separate drop down list.
Each drop down is invisible; selection of radio button determines which drop down becomes visible.
I cannot make the drop down list visible when I click on a radio button.
My code (in the on click event at the radio butoon)is
--> form1.page1.DropDownListX.presence == "visible" <-- end code, where "DropDownListX" is the drop down list I want visible.
Can some kind and helpful person here aid me please?

Let's say you create a new radio button group by dragging three radio buttons onto a form. Then you place a drop down list next to each button, name these drop down lists "DropDownListX" where "X" is 1-3 and make them invisible by setting the Presence property on the Object palette's Field tab to
invisible. You can achieve the effect you're looking for by placing the following code on each radio button's Click event (in FormCalc):
DropDownList1.presence = "visible"
DropDownList2.presence = "invisible"
DropDownList3.presence = "invisible"
Of course, this is the code for the first radio button which, when clicked, will show DropDownList1. I chose FormCalc here because it was a simple script but you could just as easily do the same in JavaScript:
DropDownList1.presence = "visible";
DropDownList2.presence = "invisible";
DropDownList3.presence = "invisible";
The only difference, in this case, is the mandatory semicolon at the end of each line.

How to make a field invisible using t-code SHDG

Hi Experts,
I got a requirement to disable a field Business unit in all transactions of Plant maintainance. I heard that it can be done with the help of transaction SHDG.
I am not aware of this transaction. So anyone please provide some information or the material related to this transaction.
Also let me know. If i make this field invisible using this transaction. If the same field business unit is used in other modules such as SD, FICO then there also will it get invisible?
If that is the case how to overcome the above scenario.

I think its not shdg but shd0.
the best way to do it is Screen Variant and Transcation Variant.
Tcode for it is SHD0 and you can disable, make any field invisible, make screen invisible , can have default value can be done through SHD0.

Cannot toggle field between visible & invisible

There is a defect with Designer's scripting that prevents toggling a numberic calculated field between being visible and invisible. Here is a sample calculated field script that reproduces the problem:

Note that the same defect is present when using an equivilent FormCalc script.

I tried your script on a form in Designer 7.1 which I previewed as an Acrobat 7.0.5 Dynamic PDF. While I didn't have problems with the script toggling the presence of the field, the product field's value would always remain zero (0).
Then I modified the script to be as follows (in JavaScript):

Using this script, everything worked fine: Both the toggling of the presence of the product field as well as its calculated number.
This made me wonder if there was a timing issue when setting a field's presence immediately after changing its value so I tried a configuration where I had two numeric fields: One field receives a number entered by the user while the other has a Calculate script on it which hides itself if the first field's value is zero or less and shows itself along with the value of the field field multiplied by 10.
This is the JavaScript I used on the "10 product" field:

Once again, this worked as expected. But when I changed the order of the operations such that the presence was being changed
after the value, while the presence was being set correctly, the value always remained zero (0).
So I believe this proves that there's a bug with setting the presence after setting the value in a Calculate script where the value always remains zero (0) and this also shows that there's a simple work-around. If you're still having problems with the presence while using the suggested work-around, it's possible you're either using a version of Acrobat which is prior to 7.0.7 and has worst symptoms than this latest version or that you're either previewing or you've saved your form in a
static PDF format.
Thank you for pointing-out this problem. I'll report it to Acrobat. Bare in mind, however, that the Calculate event was never meant for anything more than affecting a field's value based on a calculation. Of course, I, personally, understand (and see the value in) the desire to affect much more than a field's value in the Calculate event since it runs every time the value of a field on the form changes. But since it wasn't designed for that, one should always be careful when writing complex calculation scripts such as the one you were using.

Invisible Items Won't Reappear (Resedit)

I have a folder in which I made the items invisible using Resedit. However, now when I uncheck the Invisible box in the Resedit Get Info window, the items do not reappear. I know they are there, but still invisible. Any ideas on how I can make them reappear? Thank you.

Is the folder they are in also invisible? An invisible folder will prevent visible items in it from being visible.
Is the folder perhaps set to Icon view? If so, the icons for the now-visible item(s) my be located outside the visible are of the folder; scrolling would fix that. Or, reset the View for the folder to one of the List choices.
Rebuilding the desktop may help, also.
You can also give FileBuddy a shot - it is just as capable as Resedit for visible/invisible issues, and is considerably more user friendly.
To use FileBuddy to change the visibility flag for an item, use the Get Info... selection in its File menu.

Invisible Shield vs. Agent 18

Is one better than the other for protecting the iPod, or is it simply personal preference?

They both have their strong points. Invisible shield will protect from straches and is very thin so it looks good at no extra weight, but if you drop it or strick the ipod hard enough you risk breaking or denting the ipod. The agent 18 will protect the iPod completely but is larger so it will add some size to the iPod and they usually are cloudy in color, not transparent like invisible shield. Invisible shield will also replace their shields for free when they get to worn out.

Can not post real depreciation into FI

Dear all
I executed depreciation run in test mode, there is no problem. After that I executed it in normal mode, it job was finished but there was no data in the pool list, there wasn't any depreciation document posting into FI Module and its net book value is stable. How can I solve this problem?

Period interval: 001 mean as following:
Key to the entries when using a fiscal year version with 12 normal posting periods:
1 = monthly posting
3 = quarterly posting
6 = semi-annual posting
12 = annual posting
Normally, we select Monthly posting as defult.
Please try to recheck again:
1. Check the account determination for GL accounts for the asset class via AO90
2. Check if there is postings which was not completed for the previous month.

My own Google Map icons are not visible in Firefox 8

I have many Google Maps on my website and they contain both default Google icons and my own icons, each with their own URLs. They work correctly in all other browsers, and Firefox 7. However, yesterday I loaded Firefox 8. In Firefox 8 the Google default icons are still visible but my own icons are now invisible, but their placeholders are still there. They are still visible in other browsers. Also, if I now try and add one of my icons to a map, the process seems to work correctly, including a placemark name appearing, but the icon is invisible. The invisible icon is definitely there because you can click the placemark and be taken to the correct position on the map for editing, but the icon is not visible.

Same problem with my maps. You posted that this issue is solved at http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=25 but it is NOT SOLVED!!!!! I'm not a web developer, so I don't want a solution where I have write code or be a developer to figure it out. It works in every other browser & in FF7, so why can't you just figure it out & fix it, instead of making us have to write code or use our own developers to figure it out??

Splash Screen that fades in smoothly...

It means I need a method just like setTransparency(
values from 0 to 100).
D'you know what I mean?The top level Java components (Frame and Window) are always 100% opaque. In order to do what you want you have to use the java.awt.Robot class to grab a snapshot of the background where the splash screen will be displayed and then paint your semi-transparent image over the top of it using a thread and AlphaComposite to tweak the transparency over time. Not 100% accurate but good enough to fool most people. Here's an example showing the concepts.

Lion won't display multiple application windows at once

I apologize in advance if someone else has already posted this problem, but I've searched and searched and found nothing on it. It's a hard one to describe, so bear with me.
Basically, since installing Lion (currently 10.7.4) on my home iMac, I've been unable to have windows for more than one application appear at one time. For the most part, applications run just fine. But say I have Adobe Illustrator open and want to drag an image from a folder in Finder into my document. The second I select Finder from the Dock, Illustrator disappears. Click back on Illustrator from the dock, and it reappears, but now my Finder window has gone AWOL. Seems like it's all still there, just becomes invisible. At no time will it display more than one application. Two windows of the same application? No problem. But any time I switch between apps, it shows only the most recently selected app, regardless of what's actually running on my machine. Makes dragging and dropping from one app to another near impossible.
I've read about problems regarding apps becoming invisible, but virtually all posts say they also become unresponsive (ie. don't come back at all when reselected from the Dock), and that quitting and restarting the app generally fixes the problem. This isn't the case for me. Quitting and restarting does nothing. Even a fresh install of Lion did nothing. I find it hard to imagine this could be a hardware issue though. My iMac works perfectly otherwise, and this behaviour is just bizarre. Consequently, I haven't ruled out the possibility of demonic possesion, but I figured if anyone can help solve this riddle, it's all you lovely people.
As for my current settings, I have no desktops/spaces setup (aside from the one), and have turned off all associated features for Mission Control in the System Preferences – more out of an attempt to simplify in the hopes that it would help than out of any dislike for the features. The iMac itself is a 20-inch, early 2008 with 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo and 4 GB SDRAM.
Really don't know where else to turn. I've got my finger crossed that the problem will fade into memory once Mountain Lion is released, but that leaves me high and dry until then (which ***** the big one). Any help would result in my undying gratitude! Heck, help me solve this and I'll mail you a beer!

That sounds like somehow the Single Application Mode has been turned on. I don't know the Terminal command to turn it off, but the free 3rd-party application TinkerTool has it.
For some reason, it's on the Dock page:
If it's checked, remove it.
If it's not checked, check it, Relaunch, then remove the check.
