Invisible raw images when importing

I've done some reading of the forum and think I may have a unique problem. After I shoot raw images on my 20D I find that I can import the jpgs directly from the camera but the raw images do not. Any idea why? I can find them using the Canon Viewer utility.

The same problem on Vista x64 & LightRoom 1.1 with Canon EOS 400D. The only way I found is copying CR2 files into temporary folder & import this folder manually.

  • Why do I get two images when importing from i-photo into aperture

    Guys
I am a new convert to Mac's and am a keen amateur photographer ,I have transfered my photo library from my old pc into i-photo initially which worked fine and for my photo editing package I have loaded up aperture 3.When I transfer RAW photos from I-photo library into Aperture I end up with two raw images of the same photo one is called 'i-photo original raw' and the other ' i-photo edited raw ' I think I am probably missing a trick somewhere but am worried I will rapidly fill up file space with all these raw images.

When you import a Raw to iPhoto it automatically makes a jpeg Preview of the shot. Why? Because you can't do anything with Raw - can't print it, share it online, use it in other apps etc. So to allow you to use the file immediately the Preview is available. That's the second file you're getting.
You're not trying to use iPhoto and Aperture together are you? It's a waste of time and a cause of some frustration. Aperture is a complete replacement for iphoto, and you're really better off picking one horse to ride and forget about the other. Like iphoto, Aperture is a Photo Manager and post processor - but rather more powerful. Both apps are database driven. Aperture is not an "editing package".
If you do opt to stay with iPhoto then use an editor like Photoshop, Elements, Acorn, Pixelmator etc as your editng package.

  • Iphoto is blacking out vertical images when importing.  how do i fix this?

iphoto is blacking out vertical images when importing. how do i fix this?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on eight different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.

  • Pixelated Images when Importing from SD Card

    Hi there,
Im having a recurring issue when importing images from my SD Card.
The issue is that when I try to view in the 'Loupe' view, the images don't load at full size, the '1:1' is absolutely tiny?
    Any ideas??
    Thank you.

Yeah, the black bars at the top and bottom of the tiny preview indicate it is a camera thumbnail, not a large-sized preview embedded in the raw file.  Without seeing the raw file, itself, it’s hard to know if there is actually a reasonable-sized preview embedded in it or just the tiny thumbnail.  If you want someone else to take a look, upload a raw file to http://www.dropbox.com/ and post a public download link to it, here.
And more importantly, as was just asked, does the image import ok.  If so then you’ll just have to do the importing, first, before you sort through what you want.

  • Aperture 3.1 can't find/see my Canon RAW files when importing

Aperture 3.1 cannot see my CANON RAW files when doing import!!!
Do I really have to re-reference each image in the library if I have moved the library to a different volume? Images are not moved to the library, only referenced.

You don't want to re-import files if you move the library. You just need to reconnect the masters.
If you moved the whole thing over at once it should be easy; if you monkeyed with the folder names you could have a lot of work on your hands.

  • A grey filter seems to cover my RAW images after importing.

First, I import RAW images from my Nikon 1 v2.
When I start to look at the images at first they appear clear and bright. Within a second it seems that a light grey filter descends over the image, making it look dully and blah. RAW tends to look a bit blah anyway, but this is a muddy appearance.
I don't understand the change back to the image I had first glimpsed when first opening the image. It's just about impossible to reclaim the first appearance using adjustments.
Any body have any idea of what is happening?
    Thank you.
    Aperture: 3.5.1
    Mavericks: 10.9.4
    8 gb emmory
    2.9 GHz Intel Core i5

    Kirby,
    Thanks for the quick response.
I went back and re-imported the pics into Aperture using the "RAW only" option. No change, a quick glimpse of bright clarity then covered by mud -- so to speak.
I then tried iPhoto. The jpg pics in iPhoto  are slightly, but noticeably, brighter and crisper in iPhoto.
Given: RAW files are made to need adjustment with all the data they hold. Maybe my problem is that I haven't figured out which combination of adjustments to bring about the facsimile of the original image. It just seems like looking through a windshield that can't be cleaned. Admittedly it is a small adjustment necessary, but I'm picky.
    Thank you.

  • Iphoto distorts Raw images on import

    Good Afternoon,
Please could some one help with a problem that has started to occur with my RAW images which i have been trying to import from My Canon 700d
When importing to iphoto the pictures seem to distort and either as below go multi coloured or cut half the image off.
i have the latest firmware installed on my camera and have the canon utilities installed on my mac mini and have also tried transfering the images via cable and via a card reader.
the images appear fine on my mac book pro and on the camera
my memory card is also a class 10 30mbps

    Try this:
RAW files suddenly show up as "not supported" (Aperture 3.5.1, OS X 10.10)
    From the post:
The solution was to remove and re-install the RAW support from Apple.
    The solution was to
remove "RawCamera.bundle" and "RawCameraSupport.bundle" from the /System/Library/Coreservices Folder
(In Terminal.app: "cd /System/Library/CoreServices/", "sudo rm -r *Raw*" (WARNING, THIS REMOVES THE FILES INSTANTLY!))
    Reboot the system
Re-Download the Raw Compatibility update 5.06 form Apple Support: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1757 and install it
Restart Aperture, reprocess the affected files and order the photo book.

  • What happens to Raw files when importing Raw+JPG from camera to Lightroom Mobile on iPad? Only JPGs are showing up.

Hey I am Brian, and I was wondering how Lightroom mobile works again as in when importing photos directly into iPad using the camera connection kit.? This is for IPad 2.  I . Like when importing raw files. now I just did a photo shoot. and I just uploaded them into lightroom 5 on desktop. the raw files are being pushed as smart priviews acroos ipad and iphone. its kinda cool seeing cr2 file showing up on lightroom mobile. when its coming from lightroom 5. but what about coming from camera to ipad.?
I thought you can import a Raw plus jpeg into ipad and it shows up as a jpeg plus raw file. well its not doing that. shows up as just jpeg.
cant wait for next update  of lighroom mobile.

With this version of LR Mobile we not support the direct RAW import.

  • IPhoto darkens images when importing

I've just been importing some photos into iPhoto 6 and I've noticed that quite a few pictures have been noticeably darkened, and I have no idea why! I checked in the folder and the darker photo does not appear in the folder of 'Modified' photos, but in the 'Originals' folder.
If I open up the same image from my desktop in Preview and comare it side-by-side with the same image I imported into iPhoto I can immediately see the difference. The problem is really a darkening in areas of shadown.
Is iPhoto somehow thinking it is 'enhancing' my photos, but this just doesn't work on some photos or what? I just want the imported image to look identical to what I see when opening the file with Preview on the very same computer. That's not really asking too much.

I've figured out my own problem. iPhoto was set up to assign photos with a ColorSync profile and this profile made the photo look darker.

  • Partial rotation of images when importing...

I'm wondering how to stop Lightroom from "squaring up" my images when I import them.  Attached is a screen shot to illustrate.
I also can't find any consistentency, if I import the same image three times it will be as above twice but not on the third time!
I'm wondering if this is a metadata thing?
BTW camera is a Nikon D600.
    With thanks in advance,
    -Simon

If this is only happening to a few of the images on import it is most likely something related to your camera. If ALL of the Imported images exhibit the issue then there are two things in LR that could cause this to happen:
    1) You are applying a Develop preset on Import that has  Lens Corrections> Manual> Rotate tool setting other than '0.'
    2) Your LR 'Default Develop Settings' has a Crop Angle tool or Lens Corrections> Manual> Rotate tool setting other than '0.'
To check this import one of the images from CF card that shows the rotation. Examine the Crop Angle tool and Lens Corrections> Manual> Rotate tool settings to determine which one is being applied. From inside the Develop module with the imported image still rotated hit the master 'Reset' button at the bottom of the right-hand Develop panel. This applies your LR 'Default Develop Settings.'
    a) If the image is still rotated you may have inadvertently updated your LR 'Default Develop Settings' in the past with the image rotated. To correct this simply hit the master 'Reset' button, reset both the Crop Angle tool and Manual Rotate tools to '0,' go to toolbar Develop> Set Default settings, and select 'Update to Current Settings.'
    b) If the image is not rotated you are probably applying a Develop preset that was inadvertently created with the image rotated. You will need to recreate this preset making sure Lens Corrections> 'Transform' is unchecked. This is the only Develop preset setting that will rotate the image as in your example.
If neither a or b fixes the issue you can try resetting your LR Preferences file:

  • Aperture is up-sampling my RAW images on import?!

    Hi,
It would appear that on import aperture makes the pixel size of my images 3884 x 2600.
The max. pixel size of my camera is 3872 x 2592 (Nikon D200), and this is exactly the size that adobe bridge gives me.
Seems a bit silly, but it's a problem for me when I want to upload my images to istock photo for instance, as they require the image to be exactly the same pixel size as when the shot was taken, i.e. no up-sampling, etc...
Does this when importing from camera, from a card reader and from older files on my hard drive. Which all show to be 3872 x 2592 in pixel size until they get into aperture?
Any help or advice much appreciated, thanks,
    Rusty
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2GB RAM

I don't think it is upsampling - and would be amazed if it was. Maybe Apple are just using the edge pixels like Adobe's Recover Edges utility for the DNG converter. IIRC that was released with a note about the actual sensor being slightly bigger than the specified size.

  • Duration of still images when importing

    Hello,
just a quick one that has puzzled (and bothered) me for some time now. I guess it's my doing something wrong in the first place, but then again it's Monday, so I can do with some bad news to ease into the week.....
As far as I know, it's possible to tell FCP how long you want stills to be when you import them. Go to the user preferences, set still duration under the edit tab to, say, 5 secs and FCP should import stills at a length of 5 ecs. Right?
Well, whenever I try that, my stills are only 4.05 secs, and setting the still duration to 10.00 secs in the preferences gives me stills in FCP that are 8.08 secs long. Is there something I'm missing?
I've tried several formats, JPGE, PDFs, TIFs, PSDs, PICTs, TARGAs, PNGs....all show the same behaviour.
Of course I could fix the duration in the browser or in the Timeline, but it would be much easier if I could import stills at the proper duration in the first place.
    Any ideas?
Thanks a bunch, and hope you all have a good week ahead of you,
    Colin

I just did some testing on this, and it seems like the Still/Freeze Duration, Preview Pre and Post-Roll changes depending on what audio/video settings you have chosen. Try selecting DV NTSC in Easy Setup. Then check your User Preferences -> Editing.
    DV NTSC:
    Still/Freeze Duration: 00:00:10:00
    Preview Pre-Roll: 00:00:05:00
    Preview Post-Roll: 00:00:02:00
Try switching to DV PAL in Easy Setup, and check your User Preferences -> Editing again.
    DV PAL:
    Still/Freeze Duration: 00:00:12:00
    Preview Pre-Roll: 00:00:06:00
    Preview Post-Roll: 00:00:02:10
When importing still images using the DV PAL Easy Setup, the stills get a duration of 10 seconds, even though the User Preferences -> Editing are set to 00:00:12:00.
Can somebody please explain why it is like this? I hope there is a logical explanation

  • Grainy, pixelated RAW images after import

Help!??? I am having trouble with PS CS-6 displaying/ producing/ saving grainy pictures when import NEF files!!!
When I import all NEF or RAW files into CS6 from Bridge and Camera Raw from the Nikon D200 and D5000, they become grainy/ pixelated.  However, RAW files from the D800 did not have problem. I set the Color Space in my Nikons to AdobeRGB, in PS Camera Raw 8.5 to AdobeRGB, in PS CS-6 ColorSpace to AdobeRGB, and Save As Jpeg with Max quality (12). When comparing between CS-6 produced file and the original, I can see a big drop in quality and the picture become grainy and pixelated. What can I do to make this right? Any help/ suggestion is appreciated.
    Thank you!
    HN

Can you show us a screen-shot of the raw in Camera Raw that shows this noise, or if you only see it in the saved JPG, then show us a side-by-side of the raw in Camera Raw and the JPG?  Show the same area of the photo and zoom to 100%.
It is normal for raw photos to have grain but you can mostly remove it with the Luminance Noise-Reduction sliders in the Detail tab of Camera Raw.
The amount of grain depends on the ISO sensitivity setting on the camera.

  • Not all RAW images are imported

I have CS5 and use a Lumix FZ150.  The native format of the RAW images on the camera is RW2.  When I try to open these in CS5, some are opened some do not.  The pics that open, open in Camera RAW.  The others give me an error message, that my camera is not supported?
Any ideas as to what the problem is.

The FZ150 RW2 files should open in ACR 6.5 thru ACR 6.7 for CS5.   If you are not use ACR 6.7 you might try that, first, in case there was some issue that was corrected in later versions.
If you are already using that version, then the files may be corrupt.  It could be a bad memory card, bad card reader/cable or even a bad hard-drive on the computer.  You might try transferring the bad files, again, from the memory card, perhaps using a different method (camera-connected-cable vs card-reader) and see if they work a second time.  If not, then the memory card may be bad.  If the files transfer ok a second time, then something besides the memory card is bad.
If nothing you do works, then perhaps the camera is writing the files in a different mode that Adobe doesn’t support.  I am not familiar with your camera to know what that might be, but some cameras write smaller raw formats or HDR raw formats and maybe Adobe doesn’t decode everything.
If you can’t figure it out, then you can try posting a bad file, here, so others can take a look.  The way to do that would be to upload the raw file (or preferably a ZIP of the raw file) to a large-file hosting service like www.dropbox.com or www.skydrive.com or www.wetransfer.com or www.yousendit.com and then post the public download link in a reply, here.

  • How do you stop adjustments to the image when importing pictures?

When I import pictures into Lightroom 1.1 they all automatically get adjusted to be much brighter. How do I stop this? The DEVELOP SETTINGS DIALOG in the IMPORT PHOTOS pop up box is set to NONE. I don't think it's a color management issue as the images are imported with a normal brightness/color balance and then get their settings changed one by one. Opening an image in Photoshop CS3 with the EDIT A COPY WITH LIGHTROOM ADJUSTMENTS radio selected opens up the modified brightened image. Opening that same image in Photoshop CS3 with the EDIT ORIGINAL radio selected opens a normal image with correct brightness/color balance.
This is driving me mad! I don't want these adjustments. Please help!

It's not turned on by default, that I know of. Somehow, yours got that way.
As to where it's located, I would like the preferences to be distributed around the application rather than concentrated in one place. I agree with you that this one should be in the import dialog.
