Invisible status

When I set the status to 'invisible' and people hold the mouse over my name and it says "Last seen online" and it gives a time, will they see when I was online but invisible, or when I actually had my status to online?

LOL, this post was published over 4 months ago and no one answered!!! Another job "well" done, MICROSOFT!

there's none. If there is, that will defeat the purpose of including the 'invisible' status option. Of course, you can check if a user is offline or just invisble by sending them a short message. if the message go through, then that means that they are not offline, just at invisible status (probably you already know this method).

"Invisible" status , disappeared when used with Jabber or Bonjour ?

Does anyone know if the "Invisible" status option is available in Jabber ? cause it's just not there.
could it be available only in AIM accounts ?

There are reports that some Jabber Clients can do Invisibility but they have not put it in to iChat yet.

Invisible status with ichat & ichat losing connection

hi everyone.
first, i have ichat AV and i was curious if there is a way to have invisible status like i can with adium. and just out of curiosity, does the windows version of AOL allow its user to choose to be invisible? when i used a pc, i didn't use AOL.
and second, if i leave ichat on for a while, it has a habbit of disconnecting. i use ichat on my powerbook g4 and is connected wirelessly to an airport express. regardless of wireless security, i get this symptom. wireless security is 128 bit WEP, 802.11b/g, airport base station v6.2. the only alternative is to hard-wire my laptop to the network, which defeats the purpose of wireless! i'm just wondering if anyone else has this issue as well.

no, the computer is set to stay on 24/7. no sleeping, no harddrive spin down, even the screen stays on. i Do, however, have 2.4ghz cordless phones in my home, so that could be a culprit. thanks for your prompt response. i've read a lot of your posts, you're very helpful!

How to stay invisible? Can I make it a permanent s...

It seems like I need to keep setting myself to invisible. But that is not useful since it lets people see that I am online as I sign on. I would like to sign on as invisible and remain that way. Is there a way to do this?

when you select the invisible status, other users will see you as offline. though there may be ways to check if a user is really offline or just in invisible status, it will be up to the users themselves to train their contacts on how respect the possible reasons a user chose to be in invisible status.

Invisible files (etc, var, tmp) become visible after Disc Utility Restore

After cloning my hard disc to an external drive using the Disc Utility Restore function the three files var, etc, tmp have become 'visible' as aliases. How do I restore them to their 'invisible' status and how do I prevent this happening again?
The 'restored' external drive works fine as a startup disc with all other files as they should be.

Personally I think the easiest solution is to just do what all versions of OS X did up to Tiger: create the .hidden file and list the files. While Tiger no longer creates the file, the Finder will still read one if it is present. What I did was open TextEdit, set format to plain text, listed:

tmp
Saved as hidden to the root level of the drive, then opened Terminal, did cd to /, then
mv hidden .hidden
Relaunch Finder and files are now hidden from view, without any monkeying with the files themselves. The Apple recommendation for the problem makes me feel faint.

Spotlight reindex, mds crash

Hello,
I was searching a lot of stuff and I didn't found any resonable solution.
It starts about the last update to 10.9.1. (17.12.).
Main problem is like this: every time I open a lid on my AriMac, spotlight is starting reindexation.
I found some lines in console about mds crash report with information in it:

It's possible the file should have been invisible but lost its invisible status, but of this I'm not sure. I searched for mds-crash-state in the console, system, and other logs, and could find no reference to it at all. However, searching for just mds yielded the following on July 10, 2008, in the crashreporter.log:

The file called mds-crash-state in my Macintosh HD folder has a creation date of July 10, 2008, 8:04 AM in Get-Info, so the above is almost certainly connected to that event. But there is no indication that it exited abnormally, as far as I can see. There are no more entries on the 10th at all, and no more references in any of the logs to mds, so this appears to be a one-time event? The file I have detected is a "state" file, not a log file, and it is stored in a different location.

Rule in OIM

We are using access policy based provisioning for AD. In that i came across a rule which is a combination of 2 other rules and an element in this rule itself evaluated with AND operator. The first 2 rules are checking for specific value in user profile data and the element added in this rule is checking for a user defined field in the user form using == operator against a db function. The logic in the function is nothing but a select query from a custom table. So how this rule will get eveluated.
It is like X (user defined field in user form in invisible status) == package.function.
When i checked the usr table almost all the values against this column seems to be null. So what is the specific reason of using a rule element like this. Thanks.

given rule expression means :
Rule1 : attribute1==pkg.function1()
Rule2: attribute2== pkg.functiion2()
Final Rule : Rule 1 AND Rule ( Rule1 and Rule2 should be true):
That means if the attribute1 AND attribute2 has specified value then only Ad will get provisioned.
Yes you could club this under single rule with AND operator there is no need of having two separate rule and then combining in one. But, this is also okay
Attribue( user defined field in user form in invisible status ) having null values in table. So it may be the logic, if it is visible then the value is numeric (1 or 0) else null. You have to validate that.

Bug in IOS Skype App (Update 4.17.3)

I've been having some difficulty with my Skype app for my Iphone as it will show some of my contacts as online but they won't reply leading me to check on my laptop finding that they are not actually online like my phone says. This has been happening in previous updates I've had as well as this one.

I have faced a similar issue: While being on invisible status on my mac and wish to be the same on my i-phone (latest system update), it would put me automatically on online status! That I do not want, I always want to be on invisible status. Basically the latest Skype update does not synchronize my status. Please try to fix this bug.

I can't go offline anyways!

I don't know why but something happend when i download Skype to my tablet-pc. Skype was successfully using with my tablet but once i format it the sh*t happend. I dont have Skype downloaded on tablet, phone. But my friends says i am always online and not responding them. I checked it with my brothers computer. I have been sure i have no any devices that logged in to my Skype account and called myself. Ringed??!? When i open Skype, i see him called me at the true time and true lenght. Any explaining?

I've got the same problem with my Android app. I can go invisible as long as I'm logged in. OR I can go to Available status. Other options aren't available. When I log off however, all those on my friends list see me as Away.
I've gone to Invisible and then logged off. Same thing - I'm shown as Away status and effectively online. I've even deleted the app and changed the password via my pc (got the tip from another thread). Nothing.
HOW do I get to an Offline or at least an Invisible status when I'm not logged in? *very frustrated*
There must be a way. The only option I have right now is to tell all of my friends to removed me from their lists and bury the account. It's causing so much friction with misunderstandings as it is now.

Touch detections missed in top 20 pixels?

Ok, this is weird that I had not noticed this until tonight.
I'm using a utility app template, and my app runs full screen entirely in landscape with the home button on the right. I bumped into an out of range error so I went to test all 4 directions, and found that in the landscape position, the first 20 pixels on the left (as if there was a portrait mode status bar), are not passing touches to my UIView.
I'm using the simulator and not a real device at the moment, but I would guess the code would be the same. Is there some way to get those touches? I have all my windows rotated in IB, and the status bar is hidden, and also set to landscape mode (so wouldn't any pixels losing touch be on the rotated status bar?)
(I also had an alert come up in portrait mode tonight for the first time (it has always been in landscape like it's supposed to be)).
I'll be rechecking my code, but any tips, or notes saying that those pixels are lost will really help.
(Especially since I was planning to move the info button to the bottom left corner, right in where the pixels are not accepting touches. Not very helpful, eh?)

Now that I realized this was where the status bar is, a quick search in the developer forum returned, two hits for: "status bar" AND touches, which explain the problem.

Apparently this is a problem on the simulator, and not the actual devices (according to the other threads) but it does mean, I'm probably not going to move my info button to that corner of the screen ;-(

I have heard that Windows Live Messenger has added a feature that allows you to appear online only to a group of people.The other contacts will see you as appear offline.It's an interesting feature for me, so do you know any alternatives for Linux(with a similar feature)?

Sure, it's a protocol, but there are so many clients... Pidgin seems a poor example to me, it's not real XMPP client, but multicommunicator, and being one sometimes falls for implementing only common subset of possibilities found in all supported protocols. AFAIK status for implementing P.L. in pidgin is "nooo, it's more complicated than simple invisible status, so we're not interested" (or it was so last time I checked)
As for XMPP clients, at least psi, tkabber, gajim - these are XMPP clients I have used on daily basis, and as my choice was not based on p.l. presence, I think I can say "100% success rate on random probe"
One can also play with subscriptions to achieve similar goal...

Spotlight stuck at "estimating index time"

During normal work, Spotlight tries to build an index and remains stuck at "estimating index time". I have reviewed various threads about the problem but none solves my issue.
In my case the time machine volume is set as "do not index" in the privacy settings of Spotlight. Nothing else is there. Right in this moment no volume is connected and estimating index time remains there, at the cost of high CPU usage and fan noise.
What can I do?

Why do i appear online to me but offline to my buddies?

All of my buddies say I am offline and occasionally, they say I'm on but most of the time I am not. Does anyone know why?

There are several wasy this can happen.
1) Using the Invisible Status Option
2) Having a Buddy who does not have you in their Buddy list whilst they have Allow Buddy List only in the security settings in the iChat Preferences > Accounts.
3) You having the same settings without them in the list (if they are not in your List they cannot see you as On Line.
4) Same for both ends with the Allow Specific People and not having the Buddy in the List
5) Trying Out Parental Controls in another Mac Account and not Allowing those Buddies.
Until You add one Buddy all Buddies are Blocked.
Once one is added then all the rest become non "Allow Specific People (i.e Only the added ones are in the allow List)
Even if you do this in another Mac User Account but use the same iChat info your Buddy list will be flagged so when you return to your regular Mac User Account iChat is still effected.
6) Parental Controls anyway.
7) Using another app or another login and changing settings there.
See the setting in iChat > Preferences > General section about Logging your Status to Off Line on Quit
This means even if you Quit iChat and have this item unticked you are left partially Logged in.
A Web Login to AIM Express for example has a default 2 week period for this and may be overriding your iChat settings.
8) Consider Mobile Phone (Beejive or AIM Express)
9) There is some anecdotal evidence that linking some AIM lists through social Networking chat options (Google, Facebook) can cause issues.
10) You will be glad to know I have no number 10 on this
