Invisible text in PDF form

I've seen this twice now over the last couple of months under Acrobat Pro 9.3.2.
I've created forms for folks attending an event to complete. They download these forms from a web site, complete them, and click a button I've built into the form to e-mail it to us. They are all downloaded from the same location so everyone is getting the same file.
I've received back about thirty so far this year and all but 2 are fine.  Those two are the issue. When opened, regardless if opened directly from the e-mail or if saved locally first, they appear blank. Only when placing the cursor in a field will the text in that field become visible. As soon as the cursor is moved, either by mouse or tab key, the text will again disappear and the text in the field the cursor lands on will become visible.
The form is also blank when printed.
I have searched these forums and found only one other case where this was happening, about a year ago under Version 8. However, the issue there is not the case here. as that had to do with field backgrounds. None of my forms have field backgrounds set. And the fact that 28 out of 30 forms are functioning properly, and the fact that I've been using this form for a few years now, pretty much limits the possibility that it is a systemic issue with the form itself.
Anyone have any idea what might be causing this??

There have been a few posts in the recent past about this.
Typically the answer turns out to be that they are using a third party PDF reader to fill in the forms (like Mac Preview...etc.)
There hasn't been any solutions that I've seen short of putting a notice near the link stating they must use Adobe Reader.

  • Texts in pdf form don't appear when viewing in Acrobat nor in Reader.

Texts in pdf form don't appear when viewing in Acrobat nor in Reader nor when printed after the form has been filled. But the texts appear when one clicks inside the field. What is the solution to be able to print and view all of the texts in all of the fields that have been typed.

More than likely caused by someone filling out the form with Mac Preview.

  • Disappearing text in pdf form

    Hello,
we have an application using pdf forms. The reader 9..1.0 reads some data and forms are filled out.
there are 3 pages datas an 10 pages  for entering text. Each page contains automatically name and birth date of a patient, on the 10 pages the result of treatment is documented.
Now, sometimes, after opening the text again and changing the text ( e.g. the patient goes home after a week and something has to be entered) the saved text is gone, instead the old text is there though it was said "save". Also some pages are missing ( of the old text )
Furthermore, today I saw that there is a lot of text at the end of the form. Means, there are 10 pages text, let´s say 6 are filled, all have name and date filled out by our program but enough space to write on page 7. There is a button "reorganize text" and after that there is a message saying that the text is too large for the 10 pages and that the text is hidden. Indeed, all the text on page 7,8,9 and 10 is doubled from the beginning. when I tried to delete some text, there is again text and text and coming into the form and after an hour I could´n delete all the text which is "behind" the real text.
my first thought was that somebody didn´t insert a text block for lets say 30 lines but copied the whole text several times. But the people working there are much experienced.
So does anybode has a good inea? I know this is rather complicated but because these text are report of medical treament is is important that nothing is lost and that the text is okay. BTW it worked all the years starting with approval 5.0  over adobe 8 and now 9.
    thanks Joachim

Export the form data from Menu > View > Tools > Forms > More Form Options > Manage Form Data and save (it will save as a pdf). Then import the form data again from the saved file.

  • Invisible text in acrobat forms

For a number of years and a number of different versions of Acrobat we have noted that a form filled out across platforms may not show the filled in text unless it is highlighted.  I've searched Google and the Adobe site and found a number of discussions on this and some "fixes".
We've been dealing with this for a number of years and have noted that the issue is with the default text color, black.  If you actually chose any other color (we usually use dark blue) when creating the fields the text will appear on all platforms and almost all viewers.  You can also "fix" filled out forms that have the invisible ink issue by using the advanced editing tools to highlight a field and then select all and then adjust properties to change the text color to anything but black (or white).
We have noted a correlation in the issue seeming to be when the form was created on one platform and then filled out on the other, aka Mac created but Windows filled out or vice versa. Ocassionally it will show up within a family (aka Windows) but where the base OS (XP vrs 7) or version of Acrobat (7 vrs X) is different from the one that originated the form.
Is there some other global setting that needs to be or possible can be adjusted to fix this?

Invisible text in Flash enabled web pages is a frustrating problem that is affecting Mac Users who play Farm Town (8.5+ million people on FaceBook) and probably many other games too.  See this forum as an example of the problem:  http://slashkey.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2531318
Before even reading this forum I did everything that appears here with no success and then everything listed in the referenced forum (above) with no success... but the following did fix the invisible text problem and I hope that it will help others too.
    1.  Drag the Font folder from the User directory to the trash  ie. ~/Library/Fonts.  (where ~ is = your User Account Name.)
Be careful; this is NOT the Font folder in the main library.
    2. Download Font Finagler v1.5 beta for Mac OS 6, and clean the font cashe files following the instructions for this free shareware app.
            http://homepage.mac.com/mdouma46/fontfinagler/
    3. Open the Font Book app which is a new app that is included with the Mac OS Snow Leopard (10.6). (Font Book is in the Applications folder.) Read the Help info for this app and then: Choose "All Fonts" in the left column and then choose "Select Duplicate Fonts" from the Edit menu. Disable or delete all duplicate fonts that this process identifies. After dealing with the duplicate fonts, select "All Fonts" again in the left column and choose "Validate Fonts" from the File Menu.  Deal with the results that it will display using the help file for guidance.  Interestingly, in my case there were no corrupt fonts in my Mac system, but the validation process identified more duplicate fonts that the previous step did not find. Again deal with the findings and disable or delete the duplicate fonts.
    4. Reboot your Mac and get on with using your Flash enabled web pages.  Duplicate fonts seems to be the problem that cause invisible text in Flash enabled web pages.
Hope this helps you... it worked for me.

  • Can't Type Text on pdf form

I've been trying to type text on a pdf form, something I've been able to do in the past. However, the document will no longer allow me to type in it to complete the form. What should I do to solve this problem?

    Hi Joko,
    I'd like to assist!
Do you happen to have the latest Reader update?
It could also be the form you are trying to fill out. Have you tried opening an old form you have had success filling out?
Looking forward to hearing back from you!
    Kind regards, Stacy

  • Inputting Chinese text into PDF form fields

    Hi there,
I'm trying to input Chinese text into an interactive PDF and although the properties for the form fields are set to Hiragino Sans GB, when inputting the text is appearing in English. Any ideas how to resolve this?

Staff have been migrated from Windows XP and now have Windows 7 on their PCs. They all now have new versions of Adobe Reader
(version 11.0.06). In some cases they now cannot insert or update variable data in fields in PDF forms. They are not using online PDFs  -
they are using PDFs on their PCs.

  • Edit Text in PDF Forms

I was wondering if someone might be able to help me.
I have a PDF Form which I created in LiveCycle, I was hoping to use this form as a template form, so all I had to do was to use the Touch Up Tool in Adobe Professional, and change the address.
The problem occurs when I change the address, as soon as I hit return to add a new line, all the layout on that page goes all over the place instead of where it is actually meant to be!!
Does anyone know how I can put a line in, without the formatting going wrong?
Also, to make life easier, if I could change the text in Livecycle, that would be brilliant, the only problem being it doesn't look like there is an option for me to select the text and touch it up like there is in Professional.
Can anyone help me please? I really don't want to have to create a new form for every company we have listed, I'll be here until 2012 just doing that!!
Thank for your help in advance.

That's interesting, I never thought about using that sort of approach, I will definately look in to that further, I have since found the fault in the file, it appears that for me to take a line out, I have to put a space at the beginning of the text in order to remove the rest of the text. Which is really annoying!
After the text was removed and the pdf saved, I went in to Livecycle and added a new field that way so that I could save individual files.
What you have taught me though will prove extremely helpful, I will start having a look at doing this in place of what I already have, but unfortunately I can't experiment with it right now, if I need any more advice on this, is there a way fro me to get hold of you outside the forums?

  • Trouble with Visible/Invisible Fields on PDF Form

I created a fillable, calculating pdf form in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, but ran into some issues, so I'm taking a stab at LiveCycle that I've never used before today.  By reviewing sample template forms, I'm able to pick up the tricks of the trade, but I'm struggling with one particular field.  I got it to calculate and the amount shows in the subtotal, but I don't know why I can't get the field itself to show the amount calculated.
FS1 is a numeric field where a customer puts square footage.
Based on the square footage a calculation occurs.  Here is the statement:
    topmostSubform.Page1.Total[1]::calculate - (FormCalc, client)
         Total[1] = 208.75
    elseif (FS1 > 3600) then
         Total[1] = 154.30
    elseif (FS1 > 2000) then
         Total[1] - 136.15
    elseif (FS1 > 0) then
         Total[1] = 99.85
    endif
When I put in 5000 in the FS1 field, 154.30 is added to the subtotal, but no amount shows in Total[1] field.
Working with properties in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 was easy, LiveCycle takes a little more getting used to, so any help is appreciated.
    Thank you.
    if (FS1 > 7200) then

You may have just pasted your code in a funny way but I noticed your 'if' statement is underneath the rest of your message. Assuming it is in the correct place and you change "Total[1] - 136.15" to "Total[1] = 136.15" it should work. Also just to let you know that in formcalc you can use the "$" to reference the field you are in (so you could use $ instead of Total[1] in your formula).

  • Blurred Text in PDF Form

Created a form by converting a pre-existing PDF to a form-fillable one using Acrobat Pro.
The form-fillable PDF was created fine.
In editing the form, I changed the text fields to allow multiple lines of text.
Saved the form as a new PDF filename
When filling out the form using Reader, most fields allow for text wrapping to multiple lines.
At the bottom of the form, several fields allow text entry, but then blur the text both when filling the fields, when printing, and after saving under a new file name.
    Ideas, suggestions, etc.?

Now that I said that, I should revise it to "...it most likely would have happened when you edited the field..." as I recall working on a form sent to me by someone else who had added field using the Form Wizard, and there were duplicated fields, so I suppose it is possible that Acrobat automatically added them.

  • How to edit text on PDF form in Acrobat 8 professional

I just took a Word doc and created a form for an application.  The client changed the deadline and I would like to know if I can make that change in Acrobat 8 Prof (MAC) or if I have to make the change in Word, create a PDF and completely re-do the form? Of course, it needs to be done right now.

Create a new PDF from Word. Open the old form in Acrobat and replace the pages with the pages of the new PDF.

  • Invisible text in PDFs

In the last few months, I haven't been able to read many PDFs using the Apple engine (Preview, Safari, etc). Here's an example (I just searched google for PDFs and this was the first affected hit). On the first page I can read black text in the center but only see an empty grey box at the bottom. In other pages, headers are visible but not body text.
If I open an affected PDF in Adobe reader, I can read all text. It is possible for me to copy "nonexistant" text from preview to a text editor.
    What's going on?

My issue with PDF has been solved. I was having several other problems and my sons said, "Mom, you need to re-install the operating system." Done, so far no problems. I am responding to this thread now to indicate it is no longer an issue. I have learned that I can't pull old posts. Thanks for your help.
I am having this problem in virtually everything. I
was using adobe reader 7.0.5 very successfully until
I updated to OS X 4.3. I have been a pdf reader user
since mac 2. (It wasn't so long ago that we elected
to get attachments as pdf or word files.)
I use entourage as e-mail. (dotMac is my alternative
but not as easy to use) Clicking on highlighted text
in an e-mail will sometimes bring up the link,
sometimes not. We have our brokerage accounts on
line which require adobe reader. I'm able to do a
work-around to get the information, but time and ease
are missing. Safari is my browser. The web-sites
open, but often the links do not, and this is a real
problem. Bringing up a blank page is indeed
frustration. Information gathering via the web is a
primary use of my computer so this new wrinkle is
    indeed unwelcome.
I have uninstalled Adobe 7.0.5 by searcing line by
line through all the possible lists and removing
    anything "adobe reader" connected.
    Re-install--same problem I am not a command-line
user as I know nothing about programming and don't
want to cause havoc, so if anyone can help I would
need a step-by-step in and out.
If anyone has a solution, please help us out.

  • Overflow text on PDF form

I created art in inDesign and created forms in Acrobat 9. The issue is that when people fill in the form box with too much info the additional info does not display and cannot be printed. I have been given a sample form created in LiveCycle Designer which shows overflow text on a second page.
Questions is - can I do the same function in Acrobat 9 or do I need to work with LiveCycle? That is show overflow text on another page/s. The document we are working is 24 pages long with about 24-28 questions which may have 3-7 sub questions.

    Hi Joko,
    I'd like to assist!
Do you happen to have the latest Reader update?
It could also be the form you are trying to fill out. Have you tried opening an old form you have had success filling out?
Looking forward to hearing back from you!
    Kind regards, Stacy

  • Help with pdf form

After filling out text on pdf form how to save information filled out in the form, then how do I email the now filled out form back to sender of original form

    Hello Paul,
    Thank you for your reply.
I use Ipower for my hosting.  I see they use sendmail and the path on the server is - /usr/sbin/sendmail.  Would this work?
The way I would like this to work would be:
    1) I e-mail the PDF form to the client
    2) Client opens and fills in the form
    3) They hit submit and the form information eventually gets e-mailed to my business e-mail
I chose to use the HTTP method instead of e-mail because the PDF form says it can not be saved and if the client uses an internet beased e-mail like Yahoo it gets kind of messy.
But, does the HTTP delivery method make it more difficult since this is not embedded in a website?
Sorry, I did not realise this would be as involved as it is.  Your help would be greatly appreciated.
