Invisible text?

I've just installed Pages '08 (v3.0.3) on a MacBook running OSX (v10.6.3). The install seemed to go ok, but I am unable to see anything I type! The text remain frustratingly invisible, no matter what I do to change the font color. I can highlight the text and then see it, but the moment the text is unhighlighted, it's invisible again. And yes, I am changing font color (Format --> Font --> Show Fonts and go to Text Color to choose, for instance, black).
Is there some incompatibility between Pages '08 and Snow Leopard? Is it, somehow, because this version of Pages '08 used to be installed on my iMac? What's going on?
Thank you.

I had the exact same problem, so, based upon these posts, I did the 10.6.4 update combo and the Pages 3.0.3 Pkg. After a restart, every in Pages is working just fine. I'm having fun with the various templates, so now I don't have to go back to my old G4 and Appleworks 6!
Thanks, Jon

  • Invisible text in acrobat forms

    For a number of years and a number of different versions of Acrobat we have noted that a form filled out across platforms may not show the filled in text unless it is highlighted.  I've searched Google and the Adobe site and found a number of discussions on this and some "fixes".
    We've been dealing with this for a number of years and have noted that the issue is with the default text color, black.  If you actually chose any other color (we usually use dark blue) when creating the fields the text will appear on all platforms and almost all viewers.  You can also "fix" filled out forms that have the invisible ink issue by using the advanced editing tools to highlight a field and then select all and then adjust properties to change the text color to anything but black (or white).
    We have noted a correlation in the issue seeming to be when the form was created on one platform and then filled out on the other, aka Mac created but Windows filled out or vice versa. Ocassionally it will show up within a family (aka Windows) but where the base OS (XP vrs 7) or version of Acrobat (7 vrs X) is different from the one that originated the form.
    Is there some other global setting that needs to be or possible can be adjusted to fix this?

    Invisible text in Flash enabled web pages is a frustrating problem that is affecting Mac Users who play Farm Town (8.5+ million people on FaceBook) and probably many other games too.  See this forum as an example of the problem:  http://slashkey.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2531318
    Before even reading this forum I did everything that appears here with no success and then everything listed in the referenced forum (above) with no success... but the following did fix the invisible text problem and I hope that it will help others too.
    1.  Drag the Font folder from the User directory to the trash  ie. ~/Library/Fonts.  (where ~ is = your User Account Name.)
         Be careful; this is NOT the Font folder in the main library.
    2. Download Font Finagler v1.5 beta for Mac OS 6, and clean the font cashe files following the instructions for this free shareware app.
            http://homepage.mac.com/mdouma46/fontfinagler/
    3. Open the Font Book app which is a new app that is included with the Mac OS Snow Leopard (10.6). (Font Book is in the Applications folder.) Read the Help info for this app and then: Choose "All Fonts" in the left column and then choose "Select Duplicate Fonts" from the Edit menu. Disable or delete all duplicate fonts that this process identifies. After dealing with the duplicate fonts, select "All Fonts" again in the left column and choose "Validate Fonts" from the File Menu.  Deal with the results that it will display using the help file for guidance.  Interestingly, in my case there were no corrupt fonts in my Mac system, but the validation process identified more duplicate fonts that the previous step did not find. Again deal with the findings and disable or delete the duplicate fonts.
    4. Reboot your Mac and get on with using your Flash enabled web pages.  Duplicate fonts seems to be the problem that cause invisible text in Flash enabled web pages.
    Hope this helps you... it worked for me.

  • Invisible Text in Flash Player Using Windows XP

    I seem to have a problem with the Flash Player and invisible text. The Flash Player will load but there will be some buttons that are not labeled with text, so you don’t know what the buttons are, fill-in text boxes that have no text or text description, so you don’t know what to type in them, and drop-down lists that are blank, but there is supposed to be text to select from.
    I tried uninstalling and reinstalling FireFox, that did nothing; unistalled the Shockwave Flash Plug-in and reinstalled it, that did nothing; unistalled Flash and Shockwave standalone Players entirely, leaving only the Plug-in, nothing; uninstalled and reinstalled Flash Player standalone, nothing there either. I cannot seem to find a solution and every browser I have, the same problem occurs – invisible text.
    I was reading on the Adobe Forum that there is this same issue sometimes with Mac and that the problem seems to be font incompatibility.
    This happens with any browser I use – Firefox, Flock, PaleMoon, IE, Opera, Netscape.
    My OS is Windows XP Home Edition
    Main browser is FireFox version 3.6.17
    Shockwave Flash Plug-in version is 10.3.183.7
    I also have the Shockwave Player standalone version 11.6.1.629
    Has anyone, using Windows, had this same problem? Is there any solution?
    Thanks for any advice.

  • Invisible text in Google Chromes Icloud Webmail

    Suddenly I can ONLY see the text in some of my emails in my Iphones icloud-mail or if I use Explorer (webmail).
    If I check it out on Iclouds WEBMAIL (Chrome) the message looks empty/blank?
    Only from certain users though (to make it more complicated).
    Started last week, and it doesnt matter which computer I use, (I've tried it on pc:s with different operating systems, bit not on a mac:s webmail, so far) but seems to work in other webreaders (explorer) but not google chrome and Firefox.

  • Preflight check for invisible text?

    Hello!
    While there is an indicator for overset text in Indesign preflight, is it also possible to check for "invisible" text?
    This will give a warning if objects, e.g. a picture or colored box, are placed over text (witout text wrap).
    Have a nice day
    Maggern

    I suppose I shouldn't say that, since so many things actually are possible via scripting. I'd ask over in the ID scripting forum (InDesign Scripting). Seems like one approach might be to look for objects that fall within the geometric bounds of a text frame.

  • Invisible text - a different situation from the norm

    Hey fellow reader users,
    I happened to run into a problem today when attempting to read an ebook (textbook) today; various parts of the text, (around 5 words per page) were all missing. When I copied and pasted from the pdf into word or notepad, I would see the "invisible text." It so happens I have adobe acrobat pro as well, but there is the same problem. If I (in acrobat), edit the missing text to a different font, it shows up, rather than being a color issue. If anyone has a workaround for this problem for reader or acrobat, it would be much appreciated!
    Thanks in advanced!

    If you change the Zoom level, can you see the missing words?

  • Invisible text in navigation bar

    When I type something in the navigation bar, I get a list of related pages that I have visited before. The problem is that in Nightly 18, I can see the pages' icons but not the text. All I get is a gray rectangle. If I use the keyboard or the mouse to select one of the invisible results, I got directed correctly to the page. This happens both in Arch linux and in Ubuntu 12.04

    That usually indicates a problem with the font that is used and isn't working or missing.
    Try to use the DOM Inspector to see which font is used in that section.
    *DOM Inspector: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/dom-inspector-6622/
    * https://developer.mozilla.org/En/DOM_Inspector
    * https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Introduction_to_DOM_Inspector
    The DOM Inspector (DOMi) has a menu item (Search > Select Element By Click) and a button to "Find a node to inspect by clicking on it" (left icon on the toolbar).
    * open the browser window in the DOMi (File > Inspect <b>Chrome</b> Document) and choose the first from the list.
    * click the "Find a node to inspect by clicking on it" button and use the keyboard (Alt Tab) or the Task bar to go back to the browser window (do not click in the browser window other than the title bar).
    * click that element with the mouse and keep the button pressed until you see a red border to indicate the the DOMi has located that element in the DOM tree.
    You need to use the keyboard to get access to the location bar of the Firefox window (Ctrl+L) and type something or press the Down key to open the drop down list.<br />
    Once the list is open then you can click an entry and you should see the red focus ring.
    Then you can check in the right pane in the DOM Inspector which font is used:
    * click the icon with the drop marker in the header and choose "Used Font Faces"

  • Invisible text in design view, how do I make it visible?

    I cant figure out why the text in Dreamweaver is invisible,
    though I can highlight it still, and see it fine in code view. I
    cant make it visible in design view. I dont see css attached to the
    text itself, only to the block, and other site elements, but
    something in css is causing the text to be hidden and I dont know
    how to make it visible. Anybody know what I should be editing or
    looking to edit?
    Thanks ahead of time.

    It sounds like a containing element may have display:none,
    and that is
    altered by JavaScript in the browser. DW Design View does not
    run
    JavaScript, so you won't see elements like that in Design
    View.
    If this is the case, and you are running CS3 (I think?) or
    later, go to
    Preferences > Invisible Elements and make sure
    display:none elements are
    turned on. This will show an icon in Design View that you
    can
    right-click and use Element View > Full (shortcut is to
    double-click) on
    to temporarily see that element. Use Element View > Hidden
    (or F5) to
    revert to the default view.
    You can also override display:none in a Design-time Style
    Sheet if you
    want to always see that/those elements.
    HTH,
    Randy

  • JTable rows gets white with invisible text

    I m using a JTable with custom colorRender....(part of the implementation given below)....Sometime all row's text becomes invisible but if you copy this text and paste it into MS-Excel it will successfully copy to excel cells. Furthermore when this problem occurs Java Clinet Console also become distorted and nothing is displayed over there
    public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table,
          Object value,
          boolean isSelected,
          boolean hasFocus,
          int row,
          int column)

              c.setForeground(bgrd);
              c.setBackground(fgrd);
            else {
              c.setBackground(bgrd);
              c.setForeground(fgrd);
          if (bgrd == null && fgrd == null) { //empty rows

            c.setForeground(ColorProvider.getDefaultForeGroundColor());
          if (fnt != null) {
            c.setFont(fnt);
        JLabel jCellVal = (JLabel) c; //as cells are JLabels
        if (value instanceof CellInfo) {
          jCellVal.setText( ( (CellInfo) value).text);
          jCellVal.setIcon( ( (CellInfo) value).icon);
        else {
          jCellVal.setText( (value == null) ? "" : value.toString());
          jCellVal.setIcon(null);
        if(row < 0) //headers
          jCellVal.setHorizontalAlignment(JLabel.CENTER);
        else
          jCellVal.setHorizontalAlignment(JLabel.LEFT);
        return c;
      catch(Exception ex)
      return null;
    }

    What I was pointing you is that the tutorial and also API explains tha the JTable uses only a single renderer instance, at the first level rendering table data, to render all cells of the table.
    >
    public class DefaultTableCellRenderer (implementation note)
    The table class defines a single cell renderer and uses it as a as a rubber-stamp for rendering all cells in the table;
    >
    So be careful with your DefaultTableCellRenderer variable values which can (when erroneous algo) keep value of a previous rendered cell.
    - doBlinkCurrentRow
    - blnBlink
    - blnSwap
    Why this code ???
                     if (blnBlink && doBlinkCurrentRow && blnSwap) {
                       c.setForeground(bgrd);
                       c.setBackground(fgrd);
                     else {
                       c.setBackground(bgrd);
                       c.setForeground(fgrd);
    To discover the bad line in you code, go step by step to identify the bad code in your rendering algo.

  • PDF Maker producing invisible text

    When I use PDF Maker in Word 2003 SP3 on Windows XP SP3, some of the text in my headers and footers is rendered invisibly. It's still there in the PDF, becasue I can select it in Acrobat 7.0 Professional and even cut it to the clipboard. It's just invisible.
    Curiously, not all header and footer text is affected. For example, left-hand page headers appear normally, right-hand headers are invisible.
    If I print to Adobe PDF, rather than using PDF Maker, the headers and footers are fine.
    This has only started happening recently. A few weeks ago, I had no problems.
    Any ideas?

    If you really have just 7.0, then try an update (download the updates from Adobe.com > downloads > updates). Be sure to install the updates in order. The last time I thought that the font issue was big was with AA5.0, but maybe it is still and issue.

  • Solaris 2.9 installation - Invisible text dialogs

    Hi,
    I've just started installing Solaris 2.9 and the problem is that all the installation dialogs are invisible. I can see the Blade 1000/2000 background image and I can also see the installation window frame and image but the text is either completely invisible or only visible after playing with the size of the window. As for the Next/Back buttons, they're completely invisible.
    I had a somewhat similar problem when I tried (a long time ago) to use JDeveloper 9 with Java 1.4.2 but this is the opposite situation as it appears that the server comes with Java 1.4.0 installed.
    Any ideas would be much appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Alan

    Thanks for the response.
    I've looked at most of the docs and release notes for 9i on Solaris. 2.8 is the latest version mentioned. You only see 2.9 mentioned in conjunction with 10i. Of course, this doesn't mean it won't work. Can anyone else confirm? Thanks again.

  • Invisible text in PDF form

    I've seen this twice now over the last couple of months under Acrobat Pro 9.3.2.
    I've created forms for folks attending an event to complete. They download these forms from a web site, complete them, and click a button I've built into the form to e-mail it to us. They are all downloaded from the same location so everyone is getting the same file.
    I've received back about thirty so far this year and all but 2 are fine.  Those two are the issue. When opened, regardless if opened directly from the e-mail or if saved locally first, they appear blank. Only when placing the cursor in a field will the text in that field become visible. As soon as the cursor is moved, either by mouse or tab key, the text will again disappear and the text in the field the cursor lands on will become visible.
    The form is also blank when printed.
    I have searched these forums and found only one other case where this was happening, about a year ago under Version 8. However, the issue there is not the case here. as that had to do with field backgrounds. None of my forms have field backgrounds set. And the fact that 28 out of 30 forms are functioning properly, and the fact that I've been using this form for a few years now, pretty much limits the possibility that it is a systemic issue with the form itself.
    Anyone have any idea what might be causing this??

    There have been a few posts in the recent past about this.
    Typically the answer turns out to be that they are using a third party PDF reader to fill in the forms (like Mac Preview...etc.)
    There hasn't been any solutions that I've seen short of putting a notice near the link stating they must use Adobe Reader.

  • Invisible Text in Flash Player on Financial Website

    Just spent an hour on the phone with one of my financial sites on which I can no longer see some important text. They tried everything, none of which worked, and concluded it must be incompatibility of the adobe flash and Snow Leopard. It started right after installation of Snow Leopard. I've since learned that others have this problem too. Any suggestions on how to get this fixed? What can I do?

    It's great that you've isolated the problem to the User account.
    You can usually just drag a plist or sub-folder of preferences to your desktop and an application will replace the missing preference file automatically as needed. You can delete the files when the problem is fixed.
    In your User folder which is often represented in a path as a ~ character there are several Flash related locations.
    ~/Library/Caches/Adobe/Flash Player
    You can dump the cache to see if it's causing a problem.
    ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player
    Here, there are several folders like #Security, #Shared Objects, etc. You can move these folders to the desktop and see if the problem goes away.
    ~/Library/Preferences/Flash 10 MRU
    Move the file to the desktop.
    If you move the folders to your desktop, you could put them back if desired.
    If you remove all of these references from your machine and have to reinstall flash, that's a good thing, but not a usual occurrence for programs like this.
    You might have other preference files that I don't have on my system, and I might have older files laying around in mine because they haven't been noticed as a problem. Typically these files are so small, that they don't matter to anyone.
    Hope this helps. Preference files can be challenging to isolate.

  • "Invisible" text in FM, but appears in RH

    Hi all, using TCS2 on Windows 7 64 bit.
    I am linking an FM book by reference into RH. In my RH book (mostly directly below anchored frame screen shots) I seem to have some periods, bullet points, etc. (in random spots - not consistently). In FM - I can't see them to delete them. To edit in RH makes no sense since everytime I update in RH it just overrides the manual delete (reading my FM files).
    Does anyone know how to get these 'hidden' pieces of formatting to show themselves in my FM books so I can take care of them at the source?
    TIA,
    Adriana

    Yep, that's a bit unfortunate with the extra space...but part of designing for both print and
    online simultaneously.
    There's likely a CSS fix for the extra space, but I don't know the CSS to fix that one off the top of my head.
    Regarding the conditional text, I just wanted to make sure the extra characters weren't hidden condit text in your FM doc. It sounds like that's not the case, so you can ignore that part...
