Invite to video chat is greyed out

why is my invite to video chat greyed out in ichat?

Hi,
Open the Connection Doctor from the Video menu.
In Capabilities it probably says your internet is too slow with red crosses next to the Video options
Leopard and Earlier.
Go to the System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming
Change the speed to the one with 1.5Mbps in it
Restart iChat if open.
All Versions on iChat.
Go to iChat > Preferences > Video Section.
Make sure the Bandwidth Limit is not below 200kbps  (500kbps is fast enough for 4 way Video Chats with you as Host and has benefits on high speed Internet connections in smoothing out any variances - A 5% variance on a 10Mbps Upload as well as Download can be 500kbps in round-ish sort of figures)
Check iChat's View Menu
Show Video Status also needs to be On.
The Buddies Menu (And the Right Clicking of a Buddy) Invite things can be greyed out if the Buddy cannot Video
Most likely they are using AIM for Mac or one of the text only Multiple service apps like Adium of ProteusX.

  • What do i do if all my options for video chat are greyed out for ichat?

I have been using video chat for a long time and have never run into this problem. On ichat i am only able to access the audio options and not the video options, am not able to even check off the Camera Enabled or anything to do with my camera, as it is greyed out.... HELP?

Go to http://www.ni.com/devzone/idnet/default.htm and check the links under the Learn and Develop sections. All of the tools are there for creating native LabVIEW drivers.
Unless your customers would want an IVI or 'plug and play' driver, then you don't need any other software. For this, you would need to write the driver with LabWindows/CVI. This would be a benefit for anyone not using LabVIEW such as CVI, VB, C++, etc.
To provide support, you should probably provide the driver in at least 7.0 and 8.0 format but you're going to have to judge who your potential customers are and what versions of LabVIEW they currently have. If the DAC/ADC combo requires DAQmx, that automatically eliminates LabVIEW 6.1 or lower.

  • Unable to send or receive video chats in messaging to anyone Video option is greyed out.

In iChat before upgrading to Mountain Lion I was able to open the buddy list and start and receive video chats to Facebook. AIM and Gmail.  Now even though I can send and receive simple typed chats sucessfully when I select my buddies the video feature is greyed out and not responsive.  The only video I can create is Facetime to imessage accounts.

So after an unbelievable amount of troubleshooting testing and various lab environments to isolate and verify each testing phase in an attempt to resolve this issue, I hit a roadblock and called Apple Support.  I was told that using the messaging application YOU CANNOT directly start or receive video chats to other sites i.e. Facebook, AIM, Gmail.
While you can connect to these sites for simple chatting, according to Apple Support these other chat providers are refusing to allow video chat coming or going to messaging.  The reason being !!!!!!!!!  and this is just my conspiracy theory talking, but:
    Theory #1
Now that Apple has integrated into messages iMessage for direct facetime video chat I believe that in order to maintain market share and punish Apple for trying to grow their presence in this realm these other organizations are refusing to allow the new messages program to use the video chat functionality.  This way the customer has to be bothered with deciding which applications to use in order to video chat and it also then drives customers to these sites portals Facebook, Google, AIM, Skype, since from the native applications you are able to still generate the video chat process.
    Theory #2
Either that or it is Apple's way of driving market share and claiming an enhancement to being able to integrate video into their own messaging while making it so akward to have to move out of the messages application and start individual video chats from the various portal locations that they will slowly work more and more with Apple equipment and friends. Keep in mind IOS6 will allow 4G facetime which will epand the ability to video chat to iPhones, iPads, Macs and with all of this equipment in th world it is a great way to drive traffic and further bring reliance on Apple equipment.
It is completely unbelievable to me that in this day and age we still have this type of corporate infighting. And for Apple to bring out a "UPGRADED" program that breaks what used to work and has worked for years ichat and claim that this program is one of the over 200 special upgrades in Mountain Lion is a complete lie and more than that is poor business.  You don't create a new program and then throw away years of customer usage and comfort without making sure compatibility exists.  Clearly the native Facetime and imessage components are more important to Apple vs, customer happiness and compatibility to legacy resources.
Finally, what bothers me the most about this entire issue...........  Apple knows about it and is not publishing this restriction or making available any posts or information on the Internet explaining this issue. Even within Apple itself first level support knows nothing about and this and only after being bounced to multiple engineers did I finally get this answer.  I was even told that Apple is keeping this quiet. So Instead users, such as myself, are busting our heads against the wall, losing hours of sleep and adding untold amounts of stress to our lives, trying to fix what is unfixable.  Had Apple posted this issue and made available their position and why this is not a technical failure, but by design,  I, and I am sure, countless many others would be happy with at least having a resolution and recognizing that this, at least for the time being, is how it is.  Instead Apple has the audacity to not mention this anywhere and worst of all instead of accepting the restriction they actually market and talk about the added benefits of messages vs. the legacy iChat and try to convince us as the end users how much better it is.
Thanks Apple for your honesty and treating your customers like adults.   Please be sure to lie to me some more and try to tell me how great your upgrade is.  Upgrade by definition means better not worst.

  • Invite to video chat grayed out

Invite to chat, video chat, and audio chat all grayed out. I can accept invites, but I can never invite anyone myself. Please help me!

You are saying that using the iChat Menu item to Log Out of AIM does not allow you to change the item in ichat > Preferences > Accounts > Server Settings ?
    Ok try it this way.
Go to iChat > Preferences > Accounts and remove the check tick in "Use this Account" on the Account info tab for the account/screen name in question.
Then go to the Security tab. Change the port.
Now check the first box about Use this Account again to log back in.
Failing that disconnect from the Internet and then do it.

  • Video Purchased is greyed out on iPhone 3GS

    Greetings and Salutations,
I recently purchased the Blueray Combo pack of Pirates of Caribbean "On Stranger Tides".  I installed the Digital Version to iTunes successfully and was able to select it to be transfered to my iPhone.  It transfered just fine, but when I go under Videos, the Pirates Movie is there, but Greyed out and I cannot select it.
I have OS5 on my iPhone and Lion for an operating system so I believe everything is up to date.  The thing is that I recently put the digital edition of Rio (from the Rio Blueray Combo pack) on my son's iPhone 3GS as well and that worked without a problem.
Any suggestions?  Is there a setting in iTunes I need to check?  I thought perhaps the resolution for Pirates might be higher than Rio, but I don't know for sure.  Thanks!

Make sure in settings>music iTunes match is turned on. if that doesnt work, cut it off, then try... are you signed into the store? settings>store and make sure you are signed in.. if you are itll say your account name

  • UC Integration for Lync - Show my video automatically is greyed out

In a copy of CUCILync set to use desk phone for calls, if I select Video in Options the tickbox for 'Show my video automaitcally' is greyed.  If on a call the option for 'Add video to call' is greyed out also.  However if I switch CUCILync to softphone mode, video works perfectly.  I've checked the config of the IP phone in CM and the Extension mobility Profile and can't spot anything that looks wrong for this user.  Can anybody suggest what the problem might be please?
    Thanks

As an update, I have tried this with various Windows 7 PCS, both 32-bit & 64-bit and various cameras including VT Camera II & VT Camera III.  All the PCs have CUCILync v8.5 installed.  All of the Windows 7 64-bit PCs show this behaviour, no matter what camera is used.  All the Windows 7 32-bit PCs work fine.  All of the cameras work fine in Windows 7 64-bit with other application, including Lync native video calling itself.  My conclusion is that CUCILync 8.5 on Windows 7 64-bit has a problem with video.  Can anyone else confirm this?

  • Skype video chat keeps knocking out internet conne...

I am using the BT Broadband Home Hub 2.0 and my BT Broadband WiFi connection is usually consistent from the time I switch my computer on to the time I switch it off.
Only when I do a video chat through Skype does my internet connection usually drop out.
I have just done a speed test through BT.com and it's results are as follows:
    Connection speed: 12.3Mb
    Download speed: 10.7Mb
    Upload speed: 0.81Mb.
According to BT, these are all good, so why does my connection drop out when video chatting through Skype?
Do I need a better broadband router (staying with BT Broadband)?
Do I need faster broadband by getting BT Infinity instead?
Or are there some configurations/settings I can change with BT Broadband and/or Skype to ensure dropouts like this won't happen.
Hope somebody can advise me on this.
    Thanks.

If you are using the normal default connection settings for Skype, then it will try to route incoming calls via your connection, which can result in dropped connections.
Look at the advanced connection settings on Skype, and untick the options to use incoming connections and uPnP. Basically untick all boxes, then shut down Skype, and restart it. See if it helps.
Its not going to work very well over WifI anyway.
There is also a software bug in the earlier home hubs, which can result in the IDS (Intruder Detection System) log overflowing, resulting in loss of DNS connectivity. The IDS tends to be very active when incoming connection attempts are made.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

  • "invite to video chat" is inactive

    Hello
I can't have video chat with my ichat6.0.1 in macbookPro with OS X10.7.3. The most of my icones in buddies is inactive.

    Hi,
Are you saying that Buddies in the Buddy list on the whole do not display Video iCons ?
They will appear "Flat" like this for Buddies that can do 1-1 chats or like this "Stacked", for those that can do 3 or 4 way chats.
Check the Video Menu that Video Chat Enabled is ticked (The words change for earlier versions).
Check in the View menu that Show Video Status is ticked.

  • Invite to video chat, invitation received, responded to, but can't connect

I invite a friend to video phone on iChat, she accepts the invitation, but then we can't chat. If I invite her, she clicks Accept, then on her end it says that she failed to respond and on my end it just keeps waiting endlessly. If she invites, me, I click Accept and on her end it says that I failed to respond and on my end it just keeps waiting endlessly. Friend has a Mac also, not sure which one but just purchased in late 2005 so quite new, running OS 10.4.4.
I have a Mac Mini. Just updated to OS 10.4.4 today, 1/28/06, which at least seemed to take care of my previous issue! (iChat was quitting just after startup, every time I opened it).
I found Ralph's post to another user with a similar issue from earlier today, and will go ahead and answer the questions as they apply to my situation.:
    +Ralph wrote: ++
It may not be a bandwidth issue but it may be a port setting somewhere.
    So, What modem ?
    -->Cable modem: Cisco 575 LRE
What ports if any have you enabled ?
-->internal modem, built-in ethernet, and built-in firewire. These ports are checked, and appear, in this order. I don't have Airport (haven't downloaded it) or Bluetooth at all since I don't have wireless internet.
Have you got the Mac Firewall On ?
-->No, nothing checked under Firewall at all.
Have you set ports for iChat as there is no Preset ?
-->Do not know how to do this.
Have you changed the Quicktime Streaming Speed to match your Download ?
--> I believe so. I did the test and the speed varied between 550 and 890, so I changed Quicktime streaming speed to 512. We both restarted our computers and tried again but problem was still there.
What is the setting you have in iChat > Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth Limit drop down (It should be NONE) ?
--> It is NONE and has always been.
Are either of you using any iChat Add-ons ?This will effect the Intel end as they will not work in Universal and iChat will need to be run in Rosetta.
--> I don't know what these would be so I assume I am not using them. In any case we are both using Macs.
This is the latest in a long saga of iChat problems so any help is greatly appreciated!
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Ok,
This is for the Mac Firewall.
Go to System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall tab.
In the list of items (services and apps) - hover the mouse over any item.
This will bring up a little yellow dialogue box which will list the ports that could be opened if that item is selected.
The ports are just a means of seperating that diiferent data out that happens to go in an out of your computer to other places (internet or computers) or to devices such as printers and scanners.
Web browsing in always on port 80
Mail can be on port 110, 443 and some others specified by the mail servers such as Googlemail which insists you set up ports 578.
You will find there is a preset for iChat Bonjour with ports 5297 and 5298 set up. However it is a hold over from Panter and lists the protocol as TCP.
This a show an see info post to this point.
If you run your Mac with the Firewall On then you will need to make a setting for icaht AV as there is no preset.
This is where the Apge 4 link, instructions and pic comes in.
    Use the New Button
Select Other from the top drop down.
    Type 5190, 5298, 5220, 5222, 5223 in the TCP line
    Type 5060, 5190, 5297, 5298, 5678, 16384-16403 in the UDP line
Enter a name for this entry in the Description line
    Hit the OK button.
    Now read page 3
This resates the ports needed and the jobs they do for iChat.
These ports (openings in the modem) need to be enabled in the modem.
It can be done in three ways (depending on the functions of your modem)
UPnP is and On/Off settings that lets the App control when the ports are open and which ports it needs. It allows multiple computers to use those ports at the same time
Port Triggering is a form of Network Address Translation (NAT) that set a single port as the trigger for more ports to be open if data arrives on that port.
This also allows multiple computers to use the ports.
Port Forwarding is the oldest form of opening the ports.
It specifies which IP address the data will be sent to and therefore only allows one cmputer to use the ports.
(DMZ is an extreme form of this that opens all the ports to 0ne device).
http://portforward.com/routers.htm This site is a good place to find out the Default IP addres of the modem and the Default USer ID and Passwords it may have. (It also porvides instructions and Pics on how to do Port Forwarding based on the application.
See if your modem is listsed.
Click on it and choose iChat from the next page list.
Study the pics to see if you can see where the UPnP items is if your modem has it. (it may not be in sight)
Use the default info to access your modem and look around. They will work like web pages.
If you have UPnP enable it.
If not post back with your Progress
    Ralph

  • Invite a Video Chat and person clicks accept, then says starting, then stops

I can video iChat with a friend when I am at work. When I'm home, It goes like this: I invite, or he invites to a video iChat, it says it's waiting. I'll click accept, or he'll click accept (either way) and then it says I declined it!! Very strange. It happens over and over again. Restarting doesn't help.

I thought this was supposed to be an automatic thing but I can't seem to get the video portion of ym to work with ichat. Any suggestions are appreciated. I am using Lion.

I kind of have the opposite problem. I need to know how to turn off my remote on the computer. I am using the remote for my Apple TV and it keeps making the volume on my Computer go up and down (with annoying sounds).
There used to be a way to un-sync the remote with the comp but I cannot remember how and the Apple help is not much help! I have Lion.

  • Invite to one-way video chat not an option ...

    Hi,
I have a new powerbook running Tiger fully updated, and my friend has a new iBook on Tiger, fully updated also. I have an iSight which connects and shows up fine, but when I try to invite my friend to a one-way video conference through the Buddy menu it's not an option at all.
We can audio chat perfectly, is there anything I should be doing differently?
    thanks
    John

    Hi Ralph,
Yeh checked all that and it's fine, on my friend's computer there is no "video" in the toolbar but on my camera is enabled and the preview is working fine. It still doesn't offer one way video as an option for any buddies ... Goggle throws up a case where there is happening someone else, with no answer unfortunately.
It is really weird, we are having an audio chat fine, but the Buddy menu for my friend's name only offers invite to chat ( which brings up an AIM dialogue ), Invite to Audio Chat and Invite to Video Chat are both greyed out, even though we are talking fine!
No other buddies online and I definitely have the right name selected, Get Info on that buddy menu gets me their details. It's weird!
any ideas much appreciated, sounds buggy

  • Audio and Video call greyed out

Hi. I m using ichat (lion OS) in my mac mini. My problem is cant video call or even call anyone, but people can video call me. When other's call me, both video and audio works fine. But in my ichat all i see is greyed out audio or video call. Please help..

    HI,
If your Video Menu says  Video Chat  Enabled and your View Menu says the Show Video Status is On and the Bandwidth is set to at least 500kbps then I cannot see why you cannot initiate Chats.
You should either be able to click a green video icon next to a Buddy or highlight them and then use the icons at the bottom of the list (Or right-click a Buddy and you the pop up menu or highlight and use the Buddies Menu)
(i.e. there are lots of ways to start a chat)
If the Buddy is greyed Out but still showing a Video icon (Also greyed out) then that Buddy has  faulty login.
Dark text Buddies are ON line but greyed out Video icons are then Busy
