Invoking asmcmd  for oracle 10g RAC in LINUX

Hi Experts,
I got below message when I try to Invoking asmcmd.
[root@Sale ~]# su - oracle
[oracle@Sale ~]$ export ORACLE_SID=+ASM
[oracle@Sale ~]$ asmcmd
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
Linux-x86_64 Error: 2: No such file or directory (DBD ERROR: OCISessionBegin)
or
[root@Sale ~]# export ORACLE_SID=+ASM
[root@Sale ~]# asmcmd
-bash: asmcmd: command not found
How to invoke asmcmd?
JIM

Hi Taj,
Yes. I can saw ASM instance in system by
ps -ef|grep ASM
and
[oracle@SALE bin]$ ps -ef |grep pmon
oracle 16276 1 0 11:51 ? 00:00:00 asm_pmon_+ASM1
I forget to display correcting info.
We set up crs, asm and db in 3 separate home dir.
is it wrong?
Thanks
JIm

  • DO I need SFRAC for Oracle 10g RAC  on Sun Solaris

My platform is SUN Solaris 10 64 bit on v490 server. On the backend side, we are using EMC CX500 storage. We will use Veritas File system and Veritas CFS.
I would like to ask, Do I must need SFRAC to configure Oracle 10g RAC or Can I just use only Oracle CRS. I do not want to use ASM.
    Please advise
    Thanks,
    Sam..

The VCFS usually requires a Veritas Cluster, thus you would have to use the product combination that is bundled as SFRAC as mentioned before. Metalink in addition says:
10      10gR2 64-bit      Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC      5.0      Certified
There is one exception to this rule: Linux.
Veritas and Oracle support a standalone version of the Veritas Cluster Files System (and only this component) on Linux. This does not hold true for Solaris.
Concluding, if you want to use the VCFS you would need to get a VCS, which then basically means using SFRAC.
However, in this case, as mentioned before, you would not need ASM.

  • Shared Storage allocation for Oracle 10g RAC

    Hi,
I am about to implement a Two Node Oracle 10g RAC on Windows 2008 (32-Bit) servers. We are going to use EVA4400 storeage and we have 600 GB for Oracle RAC and database.
I intend to follow the steps given in RACGuides_Rac10gR2OnWindows.pdf mentioned in Note 811271.1 (RAC Assurance Support Team: RAC Starter Kit and Best Practices (Windows)).
I would like to know how should I allocated the storage for OCR,Vote, Database and Flash Recovery Area. Meaning how many LUNs and of what size to be created and presented to both the servers. To start with I need to create a 25 GB database. We will be using Raw Device for OCR and Vote and ASM for Database and Flash Recovery Area.
    Please advice.
    Thanks,
    Thiru

I am about to implement a Two Node Oracle 10g RAC on Windows 2008 (32-Bit) servers. Oracle 10g on Windows 2008 is not supported. Anyway installing a cluster as of today i would use a 64-bit operating system together with a 64-bit database. Everything else is not state-of-the-art anymore.
As of today i would go with 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.7.0) plus latest patches for Clusterware and ASM. Because you are using Windows 2008 you must use 11g Release 1 for the database as well. Bear in mind that Windows 2008 R2 is at this point in time not supported for 11g R1 or 11g R2 either.
I would like to know how should I allocated the storage for OCR,Vote, Database and Flash Recovery Area. Meaning how many LUNs and of what size to be created and presented to both the servers. This is said in the installation documents. Rule of thumb: At least three LUNs of 2 GB for OCR and three LUNs of 2 GB for Voting disk.
To start with I need to create a 25 GB database. We will be using Raw Device for OCR and Vote and ASM for Database and Flash Recovery Area.According to Oracles recommendations: Two disk groups: one for database files, the other for the flashback area.
But your setup may be different (more disk groups,....)

  • Enable autoarchiving for Oracle 10g RAC db

    Hello
What are the steps to enable autoarchiving for Oracle 10g cluster database?
It is currentrly in noarchivelog mode.
    Thank you,
    Yelena

    Hi.
I think that this has been improved in 10g, so that we can do an exclusive mount on any database in a RAC without setting cluster_database to false. Also the parameter log_archive_start has been depreciated so the steps is simply (assuming that you by default wants to use db_recovery_file_dest to store archived redo logs)
    1) Shutdown immediate (instance 1)
    2) Startup mount
    3) Alter database archivelog
    4) Alter database open
Repeat this sequence for all nodes in the RAC.
And the best is to leave the log_archive_format by it's default value, to ensure that the incarnation of the database is represented in the archive log name.
(On 10g, backupsets and archivelogs are usable beyond different reincarnation of a database, so there is a good change that S% or s% will repeat itself after an open resetlogs).
    Hopes this might help you.
    Good Luck

  • Shared Disk Subsystem for Oracle 10g RAC

I am investigating the feasibility of clustering two 220Rs together in an Oracle 10g RAC configuration. Can I use a D1000 disk array for the shared storage between the two nodes? Can you briefly describe how to do it or point me to documentation on how to do it?

    hi dstmark,
can you kindly share some information with me? i am thinking of building up a small lab at home using A1000 to build up an Oracle RAC, as a1000 have 2 scsi port and have a build in controller.
but i am unsure about the detail software requirement, as google return some conflict information.
is SUN cluster would be enough? do i need to get something like Veritas Cluster? which may require a license key....
    thanks for sharing information.

  • Support for Oracle 10g RAC?

Will Oracle 10g RAC be supported in 8.1SP4? If so, when is it scheduled for release?
In the mean time, has anyone used 10g RAC and can share their experience?

  • Pro*C for Oracle 10g in Debian Linux

    Hi,
I've downloaded and installed the Debian packages for Oracle 10g XE, and I'm trying to compile a local copy of CASTOR http://www.cern.ch/castor
This software requires the Pro*C compiler. Where can I find/download it from?
    Thanks in advance!

To answer my own question, I'd say it's necessary to install the tarball, NOT the Debian files, for the Enterprise edition (perhaps to Standard is enough?).
After installation at (for example) /usr/local/oracle, the "proc" precompiler should be at /usr/local/oracle/u01/app/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin
The env.variable ORACLE_HOME should be set,
    export ORACLE_HOME=/usr/local/oracle/u01/app/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1

  • Any idea about the pricing of the hardwares for Oracle 10g RAC?

    Hi,
If I go for 2 nodes RAC using Dell servers and Disk array, any ideas about the prices? (just for the hardwares.)
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Jason

It's all about the shared disk(s).
If you are only ever going to use two (2) nodes a SCSI JBOD solution is cheap. (practical too with ASM as the cluster filesystem / volume manager)
More than 2 nodes, you step up to certified NFS, iSCSI or FC/AL connected storage. More expensive, faster, more flexible.
The computers are the cheapest portion of the cost especially with multiple core multiple cpu 64bit linux based servers being so inexpensive.

  • RH Linux VIP configuration not working for Oracle 10g RAC installation

    Hi all,
I am trying to setup my test cluster on Oracle 10gR2 and Red Hat Linux 4. I have the public and private networks working fine and setup. However, after I setup the two VIP addresses, I cannot even ping these two virtual IPs from Linux. CRS install fails during initial run because it cannot communicate with the two VIP IP addresses. Can anyone help me out as to how to go about fixing the two VIPs so that Linux can ping them and CRS will install?
    Thanks

It sounds like you configured your VIP on Linux in advance, before installing Oracle.
You are not supposed to do that.
Decide on an IP that the VIP will use with your network manager, but don't configure it in Linux. So before you start the clusterware install, ifconfig should not show your VIP.
CRS does not need VIP when you install the clusterware, only the interconnect address.
VIP is configured using a utility called VIPCA. If Clusterware installation fails and you think it was caused by VIP issues, try running VIPCA manually and let us know what were the results.

  • Installation of  oracle 10g rac on open solaris  for X86 Machine

    Hi
Can you please let me know the advantages of installation of oracle 10g rac on open solaris on x86 machine. And also let me know the detail steps involved in instatllation of oracle 10g rac on open solaris on x86. please suggest the recommdendation for the installation
    Thanks

If by "advantages of installation of oracle 10g rac on open solaris on x86 machine" you mean advantages over RAC on Linux or AIX or HP/UX there aren't any.
If you want to know the advantages of RAC over stand-alone they generally relate to:
    1. Eliminating the server as a single point of failure
    2. Transparent fail-over
    2. Incremental horizontal scalability
