IOmega Prestige Desktop Hard Drive 1TB

I just made the switch from PC to Mac a few weeks ago so I've been putting all my files onto my hard drive for transfer. I would like to keep my master files on my hard drive but my Mac won't let me copy files from my computer to the external. Is there anyway to make this possible without losing any data on my hard drive?

Is there anyway to get it to work without installing any extra drivers or software?
Not without risking damage. Click here for more information.
Can I change security settings so that I can get it to work?
No.

  • IOMEGA Minimax Desktop Hard Drive won't mount on MacPro OS X v10.7.3 Lion

    Hi,
Did any of you encounter this issue, please?
I have tried using either the USB cable or the Firewire, but none worked. The only place I can see the IOMEGA Minimax Hard Drive is in "System Information" -> Hardware -> USB.
Nothing shown on my desktop though, so, I can't use my external hard drive.
    Many thx for your answers!
    Ioana

It seems to me your HD is mounted. You just need to edit your FINDER --> PREFERENCES to show the ext HD's either on your Desktop and/or SideBar.

I bought a brand new Mac 27" desktop that came loaded with Adobe CS6. Everything worked like a charm until the hard drive, 1Tb, developed a bad sector and the Apple Store reinstalled a new one as I had extended warranty with them. They recycled the drive immediately (like a fool I didn't ask for it back to get the data off it.) But luckily I have all my data on CrashPlan. I downloaded it and it worked great except I downloaded it to the desktop and not the original location so it got squirrely. I also have an external 1.5Tb drive that I wanted to make bootable so I installed Mavericks 10.9.3 . I then went ahead and installed it on the newly installed drive too.
I think that because I have a new drive Adobe thinks I have a news computer. I bought the 27" Mac brand new from Ebay and it came loaded with software, including CS6. I have a serial number for CS6 but Adobe said it wasn't valid. (I have owned CS2, CS4 and now CS6 which came preloaded onto the Mac by the seller who told me that the software was registered to the Mac???
I am going to re-download the backup but this time to the original location (I still don't think it will work with Adobe. What can I do about this?

  • Toshiba 1TB USB 3.5" External Desktop Hard Drive I need help

Hi and I hope you can help me soon.
I have a Toshiba 1TB USB 3.5" External Desktop Hard Drive  which has worked as a back up to my computer without fail and last week I had to get a new computer with W8 installed. I connected this external up to retrieve my backed up folders etc and it was OK at first but now it does not show up under the computer tab but is visble in the devices and printers section of Control panel, I can also see it in the disk management console. It is just the Computer tab where I cannot see it, the problem being that my backup program cannot locate it either and I need to retrieve e-mails etc.
I have a HP desktop running W8 with 8GB of RAM. it is also 64BIT
One other point is that I can access the external using a laptop of my daughters so I know it is OK.
    Thank you for any help.

I reassigned it the drive letter..
Great, Jeff. That's actually not an uncommon problem.

  • Enterprise vs Desktop Hard Drives

Is it really worth the extra cost to go with enterprise hard drives especially when used in a RAID system?
Having switched to desktop hard drives some years ago when the price difference was half, but now that difference (while still significant) is no longer that much, I'm wondering if it is worth going back to enterprise drives for the added rliability.
Admitedly, I have not had any problems over the past four years with failed drives in my existing RAID arrays.
    Cheers,
    Michael

    Eric,
By a similar token, enterprise drives should not be used as single drives or in a RAID 0 configuration because the TLER/CCTL/ERC feature (which is enabled and set to a time of around 7 seconds by default) actually works against reliability in systems with no data redundancy whatsoever. The feature on the drive actually sends a command to recover the data from a redundant drive after 7 seconds or so - and if no such data exists on other drives, that data simply gets lost (which eventually leads to a corrupted drive).
Very recent WD RE series hard drives now have TLER permanently enabled and permanently fixed at 7 seconds for both reads and writes - with absolutely no way whatsoever to change the default TLER time or even disable the feature completely. That makes such drives suitable only for use in a parity RAID array.
For RAID 1 or RAID 10 use, it doesn't matter whether or not the drives have TLER/CCTL/ERC because entire drives or entire RAID 0 couplings get mirrored, which results in complete redundancy.
Oh, by the way, many desktop drives allow the user to change the CCTL or ERC settings. However, such features are disabled by default although one of my desktop 1TB Samsung F3's have CCTL enabled and set to 7.5 seconds by default. That F3 came with firmware version 1AJ10002, which was short-lived (used on drives manufactured in March 2010) and quickly replaced with 1AJ10001 (which has CCTL set to Disabled by default like it should be for desktop drives).

  • How do I stream purchased movies to my Macbook Pro if I've already downloaded them and moved the source files to an external desktop hard drive and I'm away from home?

I recently added a number of movies to my iTunes library by redeeming digital copeis that came with Blu-rays. Due to limted disc space on my MacBook Pro, and for safe keeping, once I downloaded the movies, I moved the source files to an external desktop hard drive. When I'm home and I'm able to access that external HD via my home network, I'm able to watch the movies without an issue. However, if I'm away from home and I want to watch them, I'm not sure how to do that. I thought I could "stream" purchased movies from within iTunes  - even after downloading them - using "iTunes in the Cloud" but can't figure out how to do that, or it simply isn't possible.
    What are my options?

I understand that I can't play my downloaded movies when my external HDD is not connected becuase iTunes is looking for the downloaded files. This is not the issue. The issue is that because my HDD is not connected (as in when I'm away from home) I'd like to be able to stream the movies via the cloud.
If I hadn't downloaded the movies when I redeemed my codes, would I have been able to keep the movies online via Apple iCloud and watched them anytime by streaming them or must the movies be downloaded in order to be viewed on my MacBook?  I read that Apple allows movies purchased (or redeemed) via iTunes to be stored in the cloud via Apple iCloud so that they can be viewed any time, on any device.  IF this is the case, how does it work? From what I can see, it looks like movies can only be "streamed" from the cloud when useing Apple TV; on my iPhone and MacBook Pro, it looks like they need to be downloaded in order to be viewed.
Can someone clarify this for me?
Also - Michael - when you said that If I've already downloaded the film but I'm away from my external HDD I should "Delete the entry from the iTunes library so iTunes only sees the iTunes in the Cloud version", what exactly would this mean? Would this mean that I could then stream the movie from the cloud or would I have to re-download it to my Mac's internal HDD in order to watch it?
    Many thanks!

  • My external hard drive (1TB WD My Book Essential) suddenly has no room to backup with Time Machine! I am using Maverick OS and wondered if it is because of a bug in the system software.

My external hard drive (1TB WD My Book Essential) suddenly has no room to backup with Time Machine! I am using Maverick OS and wondered if it is because of a bug in the system software. I purchased a new external drive with 3 TB and wonder if I will run into a problem installing it. I don't know how to transfer my files from the previous HD to the New one. I was told to use a cable, but how do I do it? Do I connect them both to the computer and drag the old into the new? How is it done?  Why did this happen, the overloading of the Time Machine?

Why has the TimeMachine drive run out of space?
With the limited amount of information you've provided it is hard to answer this question. TimeMachine should continue making backups until the drive is full and then it should erase the oldest backup(s) to retrieve enough space for the next backup. Unless your computer's hard drive has close to 1TB of space on it, you shouldn't see a message saying TM cannot backup because it is full. However if you do have more than 500GB (1/2 a TB) then I can see how that message might occur. Also, if you are using the TM drive for double duty (backing up more than one computer or storing data other than TM) you could get that message.
Will you have this problem with a 3TB drive?
I always recommend that people look at how much they'll be backing up in total, add a bit extra for the future, and then multiply that by at least 1.5 and even better to double it. That indicates how large the TM backup drive should be. The TM drive should only be used for TM backups. It is ok to use one drive to back up  more than one computer but if doing so, add up the contents of all the computer drives, adjust for the future and then double it.
    Moving Forward
Disconnect the old TM drive for now. Connect the new drive and let TM do its job. I don't recommend that you try to transfer the TM backup from the old drive to the new one. Keep the old drive around for a couple months just in case you find you need it and then after a few months, if you like, you can erase it and use it for something else.

  • I need to move the iTunes library to an External Hard Drive to free up space on iMac.  Need suggestions on type of External Hard Drive to use.  A Multimedia Hard Drive like LaCie LaCinema Classic HD Multimedia Hard Drive OR a Large Desktop Hard Drive?

I need to move an iTunes library to an External Hard Drive to free up space on iMac.  I Need suggestions on type of External Hard Drive to use.  Should you use a Multimedia Hard Drive like LaCie LaCinema Classic HD Multimedia Hard Drive OR a standard Large Desktop Hard Drive like Western Digital/Seagate/LaCie?

There is no benefit to the multi-media feature on the first drive you mentioned. If you are going to look at differences between certain drives, I'd look at the differences in reliability first.

  • Why my Toshiba mobile hard drive (1TB) can not be used in the macbook air?

Why my Toshiba mobile hard drive (1TB) can not be used in the macbook air?

If you are speaking of the USB 3.0 Canvio, you are not alone. Call Toshiba and check on their progress in alleviating the problem. I heard they are blaming Apple, but since theirs is the only drive that exhibits this problem, I think the burden is on Toshiba.
Some users have reported that by using a micro USB 2.0 connector (see bottom picture), instead of the 3.0 that comes with the drive, that it is a workaround. Notice that the 3.0 connector has sort of a "dual head" nature to the construction. One part of it is 2.0 USB micro compatible. I've never tried it myself though.

How can I gain access to my hard drive directory?  Since installing Lion yesterday, I no longer have a desktop hard drive icon to click on, so cannot see my folders.

  • How to transfer music library onto new desktop hard drive?

I just recently bought a new FreeAgent desktop 250 G hard drive because I was almost out of free space on my computer. Now I want to transfer all of my songs on iTunes onto that drive. How do I do that?

ok i clicked to "select all" on my iTunes and then dragged all the songs to the desktop hard drive. It says it is copying the songs. After it is done, I'll still be able to access all of the songs and sync them normally right? The only difference will be that instead of them being on my Local Drive they'll be on the desktop hard drive.
    Is that right?

    i buy the new imac,late 2012 with a hard-drive 3TB and i want to change with another hard-drive 1TB....where i can buy?

It's also much more difficult to install third-party hard drives in current or recent Macs than it was. See:
    http://blog.macsales.com/10146-apple-further-restricts-upgrade-options-on-new-im acs
The 2012 iMacs are also in essence glued together and very difficult to disassemble and reassemble. The bottom line is: don't try it.
Why, if I may ask, would you want to remove the 3TB drive and replace it with a 1TB drive? What is it you hope to achieve even if it were possible?
    Regards.

  • Back up - trying to install Iomega eGo portable hard drive

I am trying to upgrade from Panther to Leopard. I bought an Iomega eGo portable hard drive to back up my files before I do the upgrade. I followed the instructions to reformat the Mac drive but when I am in the Disk Utility - Erase - the "Volume Format" does not highlight so I can't do anything. Any suggestions? Iomega support is closed on Sundays and I really wanted to get this done today! Thanks for your help.

    what files do I backup?
Most users backup their entire hard drive contents - system, applications & files. As a minimum, backup your important files.
Can I just drag and drop the Mac HD to the Iomega backup hard drive? and the applications and my personal file?
You can't drag the Mac HD to the backup hard drive to copy everything. Generally, you can drag files & most applications, however, there are many invisible files associated with the System that would not get copied. You need to use one of the cloning apps below.
Depending on how many GBs of data needs to get copied to the external hard drive, it will take multiple hours to copy everything. I do mine over night. Be sure to turn of the Energy Saver. Depending on which cloning app you use, after the first clone you can then just update the things that have changed. Most of us use SuperDuper (shareware) or CarbonCopyCloner (donationware).
Whenever you upgrade your OS, like going from Panther 10.3 to Tiger 10.4, you will not lose anyhing if you use the Archive & Install feature & select preserve user settings.
