IOMEGA ZIP cannot be modified

Hello,
I'm running 10.4.0.7 on a Power Mac G4 with a builtin Iomega Zip 250.
This has always worked fine before upgrading to 10.4.0.7 but has now started telling me : "The item * could not be moved because *** cannot be modified" when I try to copy files to it.
If I'm logged in as an admin user and I authenticate then it allows me to copy files - but for standard users this is not possible.
Using the shell I can see that the volume has the following permissions :
drwxr-xr-x 4 2086828721 nobody 136 Nov 22 12:19 deb
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Dom.

  • Iomega zip drive disk tool 4.3 wanted

Hello everyone! I bought a iomega Zip Drive to transfer data to my LCIII. I followed the instructions of the iomega manual and no luck. Overtime I start macintosh 7.5 at my LCIII no iomega zip drive icon is displayed at my desktop. The manual says that it should be "Disk Tools 4.3" I have the disk inserted but no luck. The zip drive seems to work. I also cheked the SCSI cable connecting my LCIII to my Macintosh SE and it worked, I transfer a few files from one machine to another. So the cable is fine. Thats why im thinking that the problem could be the Zip Disc Tools 4.3. Is there ant place where I can download the driver 4.3 and install it with floppys?
    Thanks in advance!
    Carlos

    Hi Carlos,
Is it a Zip 100 SCSI drive? Did you get any software with the drive? Was the Zip disk brand new or used? Any information about previous formatting etc?
The following web page could possibly be of interest to you.
    http://www.vintagemacworld.com/pluszip.html
The page describes how to make a Zip drive work with a Macintosh Plus (using a third-party formatting utility). A modified procedure may or may not be applicable in other cases. You may want to carry out a few experiments, for example, with your LC III.

  • Ned to back up files.  Trying to reformat a WD 1TB external hard drive but my utilities keeps saying "choose scheme from volume pop up menu.." also says cannot be modified.  What can I do?!

Help would be appreciated! Before I upgrade my 10.6.8 OS X I need to back up files.  Trying to reformat a WD 1TB external hard drive but my utilities keeps saying "choose scheme from volume pop up menu.." also says "this partition cannot be modified."  What can I do?! Take it back to Currys!  Many thanks

Select the Top Most Entry for that drive, it will be the drive model # and have the size listed, then go to the Partition tab and select One Partition from the Partition Layout area drop down. Then select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format, if that is the format you want to format it AS. Then click the Options button near the bottom of that windows and select GUID as the Partition Table. Close the options screen and clcik the Apply button.

  • How to transfer photo files from Iomega Zip Drive cassette to my iMac?

    1 GHz PowerPC G4
    768 MB DDR SDRAM
    external hard disk 500 GB
    external hard disk 125 GB
Many years ago I stored/copied my photos onto a Iomega Zip Drive cassette. Subsequently I lost everything in a computer malfunction which Apple Store could not fix; they ultimately replaced my computer. The computer that I was using when I used the Iomega Zip Drive was a Mac Quadra, not an iMac. Unfortunately, I had not backed up anything so the only thing that I have from the time prior to the malfunction is what I have stored on these Zip Drive cassettes and on the hard drive of the iMac that malfunctioned and was replaced with a new iMac. The photos that I really want to get are those of my husband who has since passed away.
It has been so long that I used them or even looked at them that now I don't know how to get those photos onto my present iMac (and I am assuming that it is possible).
Would you be so kind as to tell me what to do to transfer my photos from the Iomega Zip Drive cassette? Thank you very much.

Lorna, I'm sorry to hear of your loss.
The easiest thing to do is to purchase an External USB Zip drive (link). As ZIP disks are now legacy technology ebay has a great many available which means they are pretty low cost. Simply connect the drive and insert the disk. The disk will mount on to the desktop.
Alternatively you could see if a local Internet café still has such as drive available and they will be able to burn the contents to CD for a few dollars.
    Hope that helps.

  • How to create a secure & non editable PDF? So that it cannot be modified by any of the secondary too

How to create a secure & non editable PDF? So that it cannot be modified by any of the secondary tools available online for security breaks and editing of PDF document
I put all the security options but still there are tools to break the security (even password) leading to editing of document
Need to avoid any such situation

If the document is important, and there is something to be gained by modifying it - then someone will just make a new copy of it (e.g. print and scan, screen capture), and make a new document, then change it.
If protecting the integrity of the document - proving it is unchanged - is the thing, look at digital signatures. Forget security, the signed file can be freely edited, but the signature will always show it is changed.

  • Peripheral for external Iomega Zip MAC 100 & Mac Book Pro

I would like to download files from an external Iomega Zip Mac 100 but the peripheral is not compatible with my MacBook Pro 13".
What do I need to get in order to do this, and will I also need to download a driver for the Mac to see it?
    Thank you.

I haven't used a ZIP drive with a Mac in over a decade... I have no idea what sort of interface the Iomega device has? Do you know?
More likely than not, you're going to have to find some computer that has the right interface.

  • How can I get an Iomega Zip 250 to operate on my MacBook Air?

Running 10.7.5 on a MacBook Air and want to access data on a bunch of Zip Disks. Plugging my Iomega Zip250 into a USB port, the Mac doesn'y even recognize it. Is there any hope?

From study of same just now, others have tried to mount Iomega Zip on LION without any luck.
If Lion wont mount Iomega, conclusion follows for Mountain Lion
Youll need to find some older mac or PC to run the old-tech Iomega disks.

  • ORA-02095: specified initialization parameter cannot be modified

    Oracle : 10.2.0.4
I am getiing below error while setting this parameter in one of teh RAC instance.
ORA-02095: specified initialization parameter cannot be modified
Is there any solution for that ?
    Thx.

    Have a look here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10820/initparams262.htm#REFRN10230
If you query the V$SYSTEM_PARAMETERS you can get a "quick help" because the columns are self documenting.
I don't use RAC, but in single instance server you must stop the DB, modify the utl_file_dir, and restart.
I think it's the same for a RAC...

  • Moving items generates "cannot be modified...must authenticate" message

My mom has a new MacBook Pro running 10.4.11, and she is getting these annoying "cannot be modified...must authenticate" messages when she tries to move files off her desktop into other folders, or into the trash. I have tried the following:
    1. repaired permissions (it repaired a few issues)
    2. checked permissions on desktop (she had read and write access, and it wasn't locked)
    3. checked permissions on the destination folder (ditto)
    4. ran Keychain First Aid (no problems found)
    5. searched the discussion forums for similar issues, but found no solutions
I'm stumped as to what's causing this. It doesn't stop her from working, as she can authenticate to complete the action, but it's a major irritant for her. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this for her?
    Thanks!

That message usually means a permissions issue. Have you checked the permissions on the files, in addition to the folders? You can have permissions for the folder, but if you don't have permissions to change a file, you will get an error when you try to do so (such as trying to copy over it).

it is also not throwing any error ,only giving warnings.
so as a next step i just took the intermediate result generation and try to run it
but it is giving me an error in that
ORA-12838: cannot read/modify an object after modifying it in parallel
Can you please help me in tthis case.
    Thanks

    Hello,
The error ORA-12838 occurs if you try to issue SELECT/DML immediately after completing parallel DML, within one transaction - it's not permitted.
Start another transaction - issue Commit or Rollback first.

  • InDesign/InCopy Workflow – The content is locked and cannot be modified.

I've been working with an InDesign/InCopy workflow with Dropbox for a while and occasionally get an alert dialogue "The content is locked and cannot be modified" when in InDesign accepting/update InCopy changes made to the document. It seems to be happening more and more recently.
I can click OK, and then the software will allow the changes to be made to the InDesign document. However, I am having instances that InCopy users cannot get back into the document, until all of the content is updated from my end. I doesn't look like we are loosing any editorial changes.
Why does this happen? Is there any way to make it stop?
    Thanks!

We are testing to move from CS5.5 to CC, and are seeing the same problem in our InDesign/InCopy testing. We only see it (so far) after an editor has made some modifications, and the designer then opens the InDesign file back up. It is the InCopy linked files that it is referring to. After pressing ok thru this window, we have to update all lynks. Any news on this?

  • When trying to edit metadata, I get an error "This property cannot be modified."

I took some photos with my iPhone 4, copied them to my desktop, and now I want to remove the GPS metadata from a few of them.
I tried to remove the properties directly in Windows 7,  but I get an error saying "An error occurred when writing the property 'Latitude' to the file 'filename'."
So I decided to try it in Bridge CS5. I selected the photo, went to the metadata panel, double clicked the location under Latitude, and I get an error saying "This property cannot be modified."
    Thank you for your help!

According to Adobe staff  (see link http://forums.adobe.com/thread/830277?tstart=0) the GPS data format in Bridge is based on Adobe
Extensible Metadata Platform(XMP) standard.  The only supported format is GPS format
    dd,mm.mmmmW.
Have never used this so not sure what mmmmW represents.

It sounds like you're trying to replace a home folder. Replace the contents of the folder instead, or use Migration Assistant.
