Iomega Zip driver disappeared

One day the zip drive worked and now it doesn't. I have reinstalled the driver and I still get a "no drive" message. Any clues?

Hello Cindy:
I suggest you contact Iomega tech support - perhaps there is a fix/later driver.
If you have made no changes in your system, the problem lies with the device/driver.

  • How to transfer photo files from Iomega Zip Drive cassette to my iMac?

    1 GHz PowerPC G4
    768 MB DDR SDRAM
    external hard disk 500 GB
    external hard disk 125 GB
Many years ago I stored/copied my photos onto a Iomega Zip Drive cassette. Subsequently I lost everything in a computer malfunction which Apple Store could not fix; they ultimately replaced my computer. The computer that I was using when I used the Iomega Zip Drive was a Mac Quadra, not an iMac. Unfortunately, I had not backed up anything so the only thing that I have from the time prior to the malfunction is what I have stored on these Zip Drive cassettes and on the hard drive of the iMac that malfunctioned and was replaced with a new iMac. The photos that I really want to get are those of my husband who has since passed away.
It has been so long that I used them or even looked at them that now I don't know how to get those photos onto my present iMac (and I am assuming that it is possible).
Would you be so kind as to tell me what to do to transfer my photos from the Iomega Zip Drive cassette? Thank you very much.

Lorna, I'm sorry to hear of your loss.
The easiest thing to do is to purchase an External USB Zip drive (link). As ZIP disks are now legacy technology ebay has a great many available which means they are pretty low cost. Simply connect the drive and insert the disk. The disk will mount on to the desktop.
Alternatively you could see if a local Internet café still has such as drive available and they will be able to burn the contents to CD for a few dollars.
    Hope that helps.

  • Does OS 9 have built in support for external Iomega Zip drives?

    Hi,
Does OS 9.x have built-in support for external SCSI Iomega Zip drives?

Yeah, you are correct, but Iomega's drivers & APPs were one really destabilizing factor for OS9, as well as ruining a few ZIP Disks with that Death Head crash, and being a nuisance. Intech's drivers gave twice the R&W speed, never failed, never crashed, could Format & Partition them... also worked for MOs, JAZZ, SyJets, other Syquests from 44MB to 550MB, and any other drive regardless of IDE, SCSI, FW, USB.

  • Support for Iomega Zip drives?

Does OS 8 have built-in support for external Iomega Zip drives?
Does anyone know if OS 7.x does?

I don't know about System 7.5, but I have a PowerMac 6500/300 that came with both System 7.6.1 and an internal ZIP drive. I think you do need to download some drivers from Iomega to get it to work however. I do know that when I tried a clean install of OS 8 some years back, I couldn't use the ZIP drive. I think I also had to upgrade the ZIP drivers at some point, but I can't remember if it was when I upgraded to OS 8, applied the 8.1 patch, or upgraded to 8.5 and applied the 8.6 patch.
All I know is that you can use both the internal and the external ZIP drives with 7.6.1 if you download a driver from Iomega. Weather or not you can still do so is another issue. I could extract them from the RestoreCD, but it wouldn't have an installer.

  • Problem connecting PB 1400 to Iomega Zip Drive

I am having difficulty connecting an iomega zip drive to my pb1400. I have the adapter that goes into the 1400 connected to wide scsi-type plugs that are mated and then into smaller scsi on zip. But when I power on, I get a flashing "2" enclosed in a diamond. I may have some kind of termination problem. Not sure. Any suggestions? TTommy

    TTommy,
It sounds like you have a SCSI Disk Adapter for SCSI Disk Mode instead of the SCSI System Adapter for adding external SCSI Devices. The HDI-30 SCSI Disk Adapter will have 30 pins or the adapter will have a small switch for 'disk' or 'system'. A standard HDI-30 SCSI System Adapter will have 29 pins; the 30th pin forces the computer into SCSI Disk Mode.
If you have the Zip 100 drive, make sure the termination switch on the back panel is turned 'ON'.
Here is a good article on SCSI devices; please read it carefully, especially the part where all devices must be powered off when making any changes to the SCSI chain.

  • Satellite M60: Need parallel port to connect Iomega Zip drive

    Hi guys,
I have a Satellite M60 and I want to transfer some files from my Iomega Zip drive .
My notebook does not has a paraller port, so I bought a converter in order to make it work but there was no result.
Does anyone of you knows how to resolve the problem and finaly attach my ZIP driver to my Satellite in order to transfer the files?
    Do I need another converter?
If yes, then which one? Or, do I have to buy a PCI card with a paraller port?
    Any answer will be appraciated
    thanx

    Hi
I never used an USB-to-parallel converter but an USB-to-serial port converter and I made very bad experience witch such parts.
As far as I know such adapters dont work properly.
Therefore your suggestion is not bad to use the PCMCIA card with a parallel port.
Check firstly in your user manual which cards are compatible and then you could try to use such card.
I think this would be the best solution to connect your Iomega Zip drive to the M60 notebook.

  • Iomega Zip Drive

I have an external Iomega Zip drive with a USB connection that I was using with a PC. I plugged it into my Mac and it worked fine. Then, when I went back and plugged it into my PC it said the drive was unreadable. Is there any way to get the drive to be compatible with my PC again without destroying the files that are on it? Thank you.
    Nate

Thank you for the response. The external zip drive AND disk were working with a PC before I plugged it into a Mac. Does the Mac reformat the disk and/or drive automatically when it is connected with USB thereby making it incompatible with a PC? If I reformat using the program you suggest, will the files currently on the disk get erased? Thanks for your help.

  • Iomega zip drive won't copy

After having a corrupted hard drive fixed and Os 10.2.8 reinstalled, I found that my Iomega Zip 100 drive wouldn't copy large folders (microsoft word). It would copy individual files and smaller folders. The error message I got was -50. I understand that this relates to bad zip discs.
I tried a new zip disc and also tried a different Iomega zip drive, with identical results. It seems that the problem lies with the computer, not the zip drive. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Apologies for the acronyms. HFS and HFS+ are Mac drive formats. Newer machines' drives must be HFS+.
DU is Disk Utility and should be located in Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities. DU lets you run some maintenance checks of existing drives and format them if needed. Example, you buy a new hard drive and you have to make it Mac-happy. It's done with DU.

  • Iomega zip drive disk tool 4.3 wanted

Hello everyone! I bought a iomega Zip Drive to transfer data to my LCIII. I followed the instructions of the iomega manual and no luck. Overtime I start macintosh 7.5 at my LCIII no iomega zip drive icon is displayed at my desktop. The manual says that it should be "Disk Tools 4.3" I have the disk inserted but no luck. The zip drive seems to work. I also cheked the SCSI cable connecting my LCIII to my Macintosh SE and it worked, I transfer a few files from one machine to another. So the cable is fine. Thats why im thinking that the problem could be the Zip Disc Tools 4.3. Is there ant place where I can download the driver 4.3 and install it with floppys?
    Thanks in advance!
    Carlos

    Hi Carlos,
Is it a Zip 100 SCSI drive? Did you get any software with the drive? Was the Zip disk brand new or used? Any information about previous formatting etc?
The following web page could possibly be of interest to you.
    http://www.vintagemacworld.com/pluszip.html
The page describes how to make a Zip drive work with a Macintosh Plus (using a third-party formatting utility). A modified procedure may or may not be applicable in other cases. You may want to carry out a few experiments, for example, with your LC III.

  • Iomega ZIP drive-constantly unable to read disks when using on both PC&Mac

I'm constantly having problems with Iomega ZIP disks:
-can't be read by PC or MAC
    -needs reformatting
I have to erase the disk using disk utitlities and make sure its FAT 32 (not 16) for the PC to read it.
However this is only temporary as the disk will again become unreadable by both machines.
Is this because i'm constantly using is on both machines?
Does anyone else have this problem?
    Any solutions?
This appears to have started since the last major OS X upgrade - i.e 10.3 to 10.4.
    Cheers
    Tasha

You may not want to hear this - but the best thing to do is to get anything that matters off Zip disks, and never touch them again. They're inherently unreliable, and you're much better off using CD-R or DVD-R.

  • "IOMEGA ZIP DRIVES"

How do I prevent the LabVIEW 6.0.2 app builder from crashing with error 40508 while trying to build an application directly to my USB IOmega ZIP250?

    Hello,
I believe there is a KnowledgeBase entry on the NI website that states you cannot build a LabVIEW application to any removeable media. Trying to specify your build destination as a floppy disk, ZIP disk, etc., will result in an error or a crash upon building. You must build you application to your hard drive, then copy it to your removeable media.
I hope this sheds some light on the problem for you. Good luck with your application, and have a pleasant day.

  • Is there a way i can backup my itunes library to a zip drive?

i have an iomega zip drive and 250mb zip disc and i didnt know if theres a way to backup my itunes library to my zip drive.since i'v spent a lot of money on songs from itunes music store and dont want to lose them if my computer gets an virus or a glitch and erases my songs.now i know i can put my songs to an cd but i dont know how to that and if an cd can hold 150 songs and 11.1 hours since that how many songs and hours i have on my itunes.so can some one please tell me how to backup my itunes library to a zip drive or if i even can.
    thanks in advance.
itunes 6.0.4 and ipod nano 2g   Windows XP

If your tracks will fit on a Zip drive, yes, you can use a Zip to back up. A CD holds about 650MB, so a 250MB Zip disk will hold less than half what a CD will. Just locate the tracks in your iTunes Music folder and drag them onto the Zip. You can use multiple disks if you have more tracks than will fit onto one Zip disk.
Zip disks are notoriously unreliable, though - as bad or worse than floppy disks - so it wouldn't be my first choice for a backup medium. Of the couple of dozen Zip disks I used to own, over 75% of them eventually failed.

  • Powerbook 180c to zip drive. Is it possible

Is there a way of connecting the powebook 180c to an iomega zip drive?

    Dan
    Welcome to the Discussions.
The leftmost port under the rear cover (seen from behind) is marked on the body of the PB with the SCSI symbol. The special high-density HDI-30 port is used by Apple in place of the wider DB-25 on desktop machines. You can connect a Zip drive to the PB, but there are two considerations:
    1) In most cases you need only a special cable, HDI-30 to CN-50 (Centronics) with a light grey jacket (P/N 590-0717-A), to make the connection. The 30-pin connector at the PB end has only 29 pins, deliberately. This should be the end of the matter.
    2) However, because certain of the PowerBook range do not supply termination power to an external SCSI daisy-chain (even one of a single device), and the PB 100 family is one such, you need rather an adapter, HDI-30M to CN-50F, a passthrough terminator CN-50M to CN-50F, and a standard CN-50M to CN-50M peripheral cable such as that used to connect the devices after the first in a daisy-chain attached to a desktop Mac. The adapter should preferably be switchable between positions marked DOCK and SCSI. In DOCK mode all 30 pins are active. Use the SCSI position, which has pin 30 switched out to provide the condition in 1) above. If the adapter is for SCSI only, pin 30 should be absent. The passthrough terminator attached to the adapter provides the required termination.
If you have survived the explanation this far, have the necessary driver for the Zip drive on the PB, and have the needed cable and connectors, you should have no trouble in mounting the Zip drive on the desktop of the 180c.

  • USB zip drive work on ni8174 with NT4.0?

Has anyone used an Iomega Zip drive (USB) on the NI8174 with NT 4.0 installed? Iomega supplies special drivers for using usb on NT 4.0, but I am wondering about if the drivers work on this computer from NI...

    Hello Jason!
The NI 8171 Series PXI Embedded Controllers use industry standard Intel architectures. Specifically, these controllers use the Intel 815e chipset, which implements a UHCI USB host adapter. As long as the Iomega NT driver supports this adapter, this should work.
As far as software, you will need to disable Legacy USB in BIOS, so that the OS can use the Iomega driver. With Legacy USB disabled, you will not be able to use USB keyboards or mice.
