IOMeter hangs when running to a NFS share from Windows Storage Server 2012

Hello,
I am trying to measure performance of NFS share coming from Windows Storage Server 2012 using IOMeter also running on windows Server 2012. I can create the share on WSS2012. Windows 2012 client does see the share. IOmeter does see the share, and I can start
running. But fairly quick IOMeter gets an error, and stops. After that NFS share on the client is not visible to IOMeter anymore. This happen every time.
I have used IOMeter to SMB shares a lot with no problem..
Thanks in advance,
BJ

1) Can you use NFS share with NFS clients normally? I mean is it I/O Meter who has issues with streaming or do other apps have similar problems? Say normal copy to / from NFS share?
2) What error exactly is popped up? Do you happen to have a screenshot?
StarWind VSAN [Virtual SAN] clusters Hyper-V without SAS, Fibre Channel, SMB 3.0 or iSCSI, uses Ethernet to mirror internally mounted SATA disks between hosts.

We have a windows storage server 2012 (HP storage server) in our domain. All of sudden We had a issue, connecting the server shares using the share name only from XP machines, but it is connecting through IP address with a delayed response. We are getting
the below error message from all the windows XP SP2 machines in our domain.
"\\<share name> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have a access permissions.

But it is connecting while we are trying from windows 7 machines.  Also the other server shares (Windows 2003 server) are connecting without any issues using the share name. In addition to this we gave everyone permission for this share. And it worked
well before but not now. Could you please suggest any solution for this complex issue?

No answers, but some more questions:
Before diving into the JNI stack trace, what does "hang" mean? Are there other threads running in your program? Is this the main thread?
Looking at the stack -- and Googling libhpi.so didn't turn up much for me, other than similar complaints -- it looks like it's an output routine. What are you writing to? A local disk, or one that's remote mounted?
Edit: absolute speculation here, but I suspect that it's a routine that's called when an in-memory buffer's full, in order to physically write the data onto whatever medium you're writing too. So probably not worth looking for an actual "buffer overflow" that's damaging memory.

  • FYI: New version of Disk Warrior seems to hang when run with Snow Leopard

FYI: It seems that the new version of Disk Warrior hangs when run in Snow Leopard

I have been using DW 4.2 on 10.5.8 and the speed-up was the first thing I noted, too, so it isn't just SL.
Now if it would only 'come up for air' and respond to input to move window (so I can put it where I can see it if needed) I'd like that.
There is a 23 page review of Snow Leopard on Ars. On page 22:
People sometimes ask what, exactly, is wrong with HFS+.
Aside from its obvious lack of the features just listed, HFS+ is limited in many ways by its dated design, which is based on HFS, *a twenty-five year-old file system.*
To give just one example, the centrally located Catalog File, which must be updated for each change to the file system's structure, is a frequent and inevitable source of contention. Modern file systems usually spread their metadata around, both for robustness (multiple copies are often kept in separate locations on the disk) and to allow for better concurrency.
Practically speaking, think about those times when you run Disk Utility on an HFS+ volume and it finds (and hopefully repairs) a bunch of errors. *That's bad, okay?* +*That's something that should not happen*+ with a modern, thoroughly checksummed, always-consistent-on-disk file system unless there are hardware problems (and a ZFS storage pool can actually deal with that as well). And yet it happens all the time with HFS+ disks in Mac OS X when various bits of metadata to get corrupted or become out of date.
Apple gets by year after year, tacking new features onto HFS+ with duct tape and a prayer, but at a certain point there simply has to be a successor—whether it's ZFS, a home-grown Apple file system, or something else entirely. My fingers are crossed for Mac OS X 10.7.
If Disk Utility was reliable in mapping out weak sectors (it is not) and report/log errors. But it doesn't and I trust my data to other file systems when possible. We've come to expect and depend on 3rd party utilities and that Apple First Aid doesn't fix every possible error.
Scanning one drive for errors can take a long time. Maybe it needs to be done, maybe in the background. With 2TB drives it gets worse. Spending hours to scan for errors??? I've set TechTool Pro to concurrently scan anywhere from one to a dozen volumes at once.
An ounce of prevention, as they say, is worth a pound of cure.

  • Sudo command hangs when run as winbind user

    Hi,
    It even hangs when running:
    $ sudo
    or
    $sudo -V
So nothing to do with my sudo config - have reverted /etc/sudoers back to default. Even control-c does not work and the process needs to be killed as root, using another session.
The command works fine when ran as a local user. It is only when running as a winbind user that there's a problem.
Any help on what tools can be used to find out what's happening while the command is hanging would be much appreciated. Or even better any ideas on how to stop it hanging would be even better!
Can provide any config files if they help anyone.......
    Many Thanks,
    Richard

    *** UPDATE ***
It seems the version of sudo (v1.8*) supplied with Solaris 11 is not compatible with Winbind users.
    Workaround:
Compile version 1.7* to /usr/local/bin and add this to the beginning of $PATH

  • "Network Error - 53" while trying to mount NFS share in Windows Server 2008 client

    CentOS | Windows 2008
I've got a CentOS 5.5 server running nfsd. On the Windows side, I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. I have the "Files Services" server role enabled and both Client for NFS and Server for NFS are on.
I'm able to successfully connect/mount to the CentOS NFS share from other linux systems but am experiencing errors connecting to it from Windows. When I try to connect, I get the following:
    C:\Users\fooadmin>mount -o anon 10.10.10.10:/share/ z:
    Network Error - 53
Type 'NET HELPMSG 53' for more information.
(IP and share name have been changed to protect the innocent :-) )
    Additional information:
I've verified low-level network connectivity between the Windows client and the NFS server with telnet (to the NFS on TCP/2049) so I know the port is open. I've further confirmed that inbound and outbound firewall ports are present and enabled.
    I came across a
Microsoft tech note that suggested changing the "Provider Order" so "NFS Network" is above other items like Microsoft Windows Network. I changed this and restarted the NFS client - no luck.
I've confirmed that the share folder on the NFS server is readable/writable by all (777)
I've tried other variations of the mount command like: mount 10.10.10.10:/share/ z: and
    mount 10.10.10.10:/share z: and mount -o anon mtype=hard \\10.10.10.10:/share * No luck.
As per the command output, I tried typing NET HELPMSG 53 but that doesn't tell me much. Just "The network path was not found".
I'm lost on how to proceed with troubleshooting. Any ideas?

There are usully two aspect that come to mind:
    1. Syntax of mount command
    2. Mismatch of NFS versions
    Third reason is here

  • Lightroom hangs when attempting to import RAW files from D750

    Hi guys,
I purchased lightroom 5 sometime back to install on multiple platforms. Recently did an update on my macbook and it was able to read the NEF files from D750.
However when I installed lightroom 5 on my iMac, the prog keeps hanging when I attempt to import files from the D750. Other NEF files from my D700 were ok.
    Anyone knows why?

    Could be a hardware issue
Make sure the cable connection to the D750 is properly connected. Also, if possible try using a card reader. Or vice versa.

  • How to access ZFS share from Windows 7?

I am new to UNIX and am having a hard time to get a ZFS share to access from windows 7 on my home network.
I was able to access both WHS 2011 and QNAP 459 share on SE 11 by using the file manager - Server - windows & then just using the IP address, username, password. That was easy or at least similar to what I was used with windows 7.
However, I have yet to be able to access a ZFS pool containing a share that I can access from another windows 7 machine at home.
Apparently, I can mount the share from windows but the login name/password do not get accepted when I add a network connection in windows. Windows does seem to find the path \\solaris\tank_share1 and even mounts it, but the login for SE 11 does not work for some reason.
I changes the workgroup name to WORKGROUP in windows but that did not change anything. I tried to edit the pam.conf file by changing the ownership from root to myself so I could use gedit since it has been 15 years since I last used vi. However, that corrupted the setup as I got "system error" message on reboot that never got out of that infinite loop.
I am basically using the instruction through the following link:
    http://blogs.oracle.com/observatory/entry/accessing_opensolaris_shares_from_windows
Any help to get this problem resolved is much appreciated
    Thanks,
    Kurt

The documented procedure of having to edit the pam_conf file seems to work followed by resetting one's password seems to work after all. I believe, by taking away ownership from root to "admin user" screwed things up. I had to relearn how to use vi but that didn't take very long.
Got about 50 MB/s speed coping from Windows SSD to SE11 SSD via very small (5 GB) RAIDZ array in VMWare (running on top of WIN 7-64). I have to try native SE11 SSD next as the VMWare setup is just for practice.
Q: Is there a way to launch gedit from the terminal window in root mode so I wouldn't have to use vi?

  • Cannot browse to Server 2012 shares from Windows 8.x

I can't conntect or browse to any shares on a 2012 server from a Windows 8.1 client. I can connect from Windows 7 to server 2012. And from Windows 8.1 I can connect to 2008 servers. Is this a new security feature/setting on Windows 8.1 or on Server 2012?

    Hi Spetroski,
Based on your description, I’m a little confused with your question. Please let me confirm something more.
Is it in a domain environment? Did you mean you type the share path in
Run, and then access share? If so, please check if use server’s IP address to access, will the same result?
If I misunderstood the connection way, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Please confirm which following scenario is similar with current state of this issue.
When use Windows 8.1, you can connect to server 2012. However, can’t browse and access all shares that host in server 2012.
Can’t even connect to server 2012, when use Windows 8.1.
If none, please feel free to let me know some details.
Meanwhile, please let me know if you can find some error message when this issue occurred. If can find, please
post the complete error messages here.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,

  • Problem with shares on Windows 2003R2 server from a Windows 8.1 PC

I'm having problem with shares on Windows 2003R2 server from a Windows 8.1 PC.  It times out when I try to copy a file from my PC to the server and I get an error message saying "There is a problem accessing network drive W:\. Make sure you are

I have no problem copying files from the server to the PC.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
How about your problem now? Have you test other machine also installed Windows 8.1? Did they have this problem?
To diagnose this problem, firstly, please check Windows 2003R2 firewall settings, also can disable firewall temporarilly for test.
Secondly, try to use Network Monitor to capture network communication package for test.

  • Random error accessing CIFS shares from Windows

I am setting up some CIFS shares to be used from Windows clients and in the process I had some random problems accessing the shares.
In hope of finding the answer I checked the CIFS Service and the Active Directory Service, and while watching the screen for Active Directory Service I saw that the "Selected Domain Controller" changed from one to another. I now stayed within this screen and noticed that the "Selected Domain Controller" continued to change and then I found the problem, because an unknown Domain Controller appeared. The IP was 216.150.17.8
I found that when ever this Domain Controller was the selected one, all access to CIFS shares from Windows clients failed! This is correct, because the 216.150.17.8 of course is unaware of all users in Our Domain
    So the Questions are:
    - what is happening?
    - and how to solve this?
    - why is a Domain Controller 216.150.17.8 sometimes the Selected Controller?
    - where does this 216.150.17.8 come from?
Have You seen anything like this?

I now have found out why the DC changes - it is because the CIFS service is restarting ;-(

  • Does DPM 2012 R2 still needs DataSourceGroups.xml and MaxAllowedParallelBackups key when using Hyper-V VSS Software Writer to backup Server 2012 R2 Cluster

    Hi,
Does DPM 2012 R2 still needs DataSourceGroups.xml and MaxAllowedParallelBackups key when using Hyper-V VSS Software Writer to backup Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V Cluster with CSV's? Can't find a clear answer somewhere.
    Thanx for helping me out.
    DJITS.

    Configure CSV backups
If you are running Hyper-V on Windows Server 2008 R2 and you’re backing up multiple clusters with DPM, you need to ensure that only one backup uses the same CSV at any one time. To do this, follow the instructions in
    Serialize virtual machine backups.
If you’re using software VSS with Hyper-V on Windows Server 2008 R2, do the following
Serialize virtual machine backups per node
Serialize virtual machine backups per CSV LUN

  • Cannot run the big size exe file ( 900MB) on Windows Storage Server 2003 x86 SP2 OS(Hyper-V VM machine)

When I run a big size exe file(>900 MB) on Windows Storage Server  2003 x86 SP2 OS VM mchine(which is managered by Hyper-V server), I got the following error message:
Windows cannot open this program because the license enforcement system has been tampered with or become corrupted.
This setup.exe should be a trusted source because of it run other OS(windows 2003, windows 2008, 2008 R2 etc.).  we use the same way to create the exe whose size < 700MB, it works fine on the same machine(Windows Storage
Server 2003 x86 SP2 OS VM machine).  So I assume that the file size(>900MB) causes the problem, It seems that OS dont' support it.
    My questions:
    1. Is there the limitation of exe size to run on Windows
Storage Server  2003 x86 SP2 OS VM machine?  If yes, what is the size of limitation?
    2. What reason is this error? Is it related with Hyper-V?
    Thanks,
    Recky

Did you install the 2003 VM from scratch or did you create it via a P2V process?  In addition to what Shaon says about not all applications running properly in VMs, performing P2V to create VMs can also cause issues with a variety of things.
First thing to check would be Shaon's suggestion to try it in another VM.  If it works in another VM, and you P2V'ed this VM, try creating your Storage Server VM from scratch and try again.  Better yet, if the application can be run on a later version
of the OS, create a 2012 Storage Server instead of the 2003 Storage Server as your VM and give it a try.
