Why won't ios 3.1.1 download for the 1st generation ipod touch? It will start and then a second later stop.

Does it happen with the apps that came with the iPod?
Does it happen with all apps you have downloaded/installed?
Have you ried deleting the apps and redownload/install the apps? You will not be charged again if you are signed into the same iTunes account that originally purchased the apps.
Next would be to restore from backup
Last would be to restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

By updating the iOS on the iPOd. The 1G can go as high as 3.1.3. That works with a lot of apps. But some apps require a higher iOS and/or newer iPod.

Nobody knows (except for apple of course). All it says on the ipod touch page that it ships in October so it could be any date. I predict that it is in the first two weeks of October but when it says buy it now instead of pre-order you know its about to come out.

I can not seem to get my pc to download the iOs 3.1 update for my ipod touch 1st generation. I keep getting the error 8288 message and it says that their is not a server connected. When it is all up and running. Can some one help me achieve updating my kids Ipod touch 1st generation so that they can have game apps on them?

Try uninstalling iTunes 10.5 and installing iTunes 10.4. It has worked for others.

Can't Download Apps on 1st Generation Ipod Touch

My first generation Ipod is updated to software 3.1.3. I can't download the new software because my Ipod is too old. Whenever I try to download apps it says I need to update my Ipod software, but I can't. So will I never be able to download apps with my Ipod again?

I too have a 1st gen and running 3.1.3. I've tried to download various apps and get the banner warning. What really is disappointing is the fact 2nd gen and up is supported. There really wasn't much of a time difference in the release dates so this is another example of apple FORCING it''s bread and butter to keep shelling out cash. I've resorted to just using this thing for what it is. A MP3 player. When it dies, I'll start using my Android phone for music. My 4 teens have all been told, make your ipod last as I'm not buying a replacement. Those who have drunk their kookaid I hope suffer a hardware failure when it matters most. Shame on you apple for treating your customers this way. . I've had enough and I hope you lose more market share as time goes on to a more open and as far as I'm concerned, a better produce, Android. yes. at least the link i was sent a few months ago took me to apples ios update for version 3.1.1, I am currently running 2.1.2. I paid for the update and apples page says it should be 250 MB in size, but the update i recieved was only 1kb an errors every time itunes tried to download it.

Because the Touch is primarily a music player, that is what I purchased and I'm quite satisfied with it as it is.

This maybe because the hardware is simply incompatible, they cannot cover every eventuality, had they done so the Touch would have been more expensive and I would not have bought one.
Technology moves on, fact. I you don't feel Apple are playing fair then just avoid their products, that'll learn 'em.

I'm having the same problems. Can't even find out if Apple is working on it. Tried to downgrade but is not supported by apple so error 3194 comes up which is verifying with the apple web site. Which then stops everything. I understand you can modify the "hosts" file to by pass the issue, but hate doing that as it gets involved. May try it if I can't get any satisfaction from apple.
