IOS 4.2.1 ***** BIG TIME for 3Gs

When I updated my 3Gs, the selection for custom tones became limited to one tone. Even the said "17 text tones doesn't apply. Blame the web guy who updates the site huh?! hahahahahaha.
Did Steve Jobs approve of this update???

I have the basic 6. You got me all wrong. The update made the Custom Ringtone section select one custom ringtone. When in fact in the Itunes i have 3 tones to select. I did Restarts, Resets, Restores from backups, and Restores as new. Did all that Sir. And as a matter of fact all the custom ringtones where selectable back from the previous iOS, now on this newer and said better update it doesn't work.
I feel sorry for you man, i know you're ****** at everyone here in the forum, and i know that a lot of people are complaining. I'm not wasting your time. I'm just reporting the incident or the effects made by the update to let Apple or even you that there is an error in the update and thus reporting this may produce new update earlier.
That's why I'm asking if these updates were check by Steve Jobs himself.
Sorry dude, i'm not the enemy. Just a Mac and Iphone user/fan.

IOS 7 is a big mistake for me!

I upgraded my 4s to ios7 the other day, now when ever my wife sends a text to me the text also goes back to here iphone 4. I upgraded her iphone 4 to ios7 to see if that would fix the problem. It didn't! I also found that when I upgraded my 4s it added an icloud account for me against my will (I had answered that I did not want an icloud account). I deleted the icloud account and I still have the same problem. It is really annoying for my wife. every time she sends me a text it still sends it to her also (a popup with reply or close and it plays my text tone making her think that I sent a meesage to her also). Is there any fix for this or should I just go back to ios6 or maybe get a new android phone (probably comes with it's own set of issues). I have noticed the trend with apple and other technology companies to make newer versions more trouble than the are worth lately. Marketing people should not be allowed to have input on design.

I went to the Settings/messages and the only thing in there was the phone number for the I was checking on. It was the same on both phones. I guess I need to either set up another apple id (which I really do not want to do) or go back to ios6 (which is probably what I will end up doing). Thanks for the suggestions.

Kernel 2.6.32 will boost x264 encode speed BIG TIME for multicore CPUs

It's due to a tweaked scheduler in the 2.6.32 codebase. I measured a 53 % speed boost comparing 2.6.31-5 to 2.6.32-rc6 on my quad. See my post over at the handbrake forum here for details and see this page too.
The test encode was a 60 fps 720p (1280x720) encode using the "High Profile" on handbrake snapshot 2907 (which you can get in the AUR here):
Arch x86_64 (kernel 2.6.31.5): avg 15.99 fps
Arch x86_64 (kernel 2.6.32-rc6): avg 24.45 fps
Linux (kernel 2.6.31-bfs): avg 24.49 fps
Win XP 64-bit edition: avg 20.41 fps
Linux is 53 % faster w/ the new kernel and 20 % faster than Windows. Can't wait for 2.6.32 to go final!

But this bug was noticed in the first place because BFS kicked CFS's ass with x264, so sticking with BFS is fine
@tomd123: It's a general improvement in the scheduler, which should translate to other workloads as well. x264 got a huge boost, not everything will get such a huge increase in speed.

The iPad 1 can't run the newer operating systems. It'd be like trying to play a bluray disc in your 6 year old dvd player....it simply lacks the hardware to make the software run.
No suggestion about the camera, but given that Apple's attitude seems to be to focus more on the more mobile devices for photography (the iPhone and Touch cameras got features, the iPad and mini didn't), that is highly unlikely. You can tell Apple what you want, but you'd probably be money ahead to get a digital camera.
as to the photos, anything put on via iTunes has to come off via iTunes.Your main alternative would be to look for photo apps that offer file exchange that may give you more functionality.

My program needed to create several arrays with big size and I found a interesting phenomenon:

it took much more time to create the fourth array and I could not find the reason. My program is a big program, It did many things before the execution of the above code. Was it related to the garbage collector? I meant the java system ran the garbage collection program before the creation the the fourth array. Was I right?
I want to prevent this problem, i.e., decrese the time for the creation of arrays. Is there any way?

Note that your snippet of test code doe snot require the 5 arrays to be in memory at the same time and is hence not representing your later stated requirement to have them all available.
Your locally created v1 array is not referenced anymore after creation and therefore eligible for garbage collection, be aware of that. Setting good initial and maximum heap size values as suggested by others is of importance here.

Gather table stats takes time for big table

Table has got millions of record and it is partitioned. when i analyze the table using the following syntax it takes more than 5 hrs and it has got one index.
I tried with auto sample size and also by changing the estimate percentage value like 20, 50 70 etc. But the time is almost same.

The behaviour of the ESTIMATE_PERCENT may change from one Release to another.
In some Release when you specify a "too high" (>25%,...) ESTIMATE_PERCENT in fact you collect the Statistics over 100% of the rows, as in COMPUTE mode:
Using DBMS_STATS.GATHER_TABLE_STATS With ESTIMATE_PERCENT Parameter Samples All Rows [ID 223065.1]For later Release, *10g* or *11g*, you have the possibility to use the following value:
estimate_percent => DBMS_STATS.AUTO_SAMPLE_SIZEIn fact, you may use it even in *9.2*, but in this release it is recommended using a specific estimate value.
More over, starting with *10.1* it's possible to Schedule the Statistics collect by using DBMS_SCHEDULE and, specify a Window so that the Job doesn't run during production hours.
So, the answer may depends on the Oracle Release and also on the Application (SAP, Peoplesoft, ...).

Hmmm.. ok.. well you are kind of on your own.. purchasing from another country leads to problems.. especially as the TC itself is regional .. all the setup applies to the region it is sold in.

The 6.3 utility will not work without it.
Make sure all names are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Do a full reset and start over.
But there are no more controls.. you cannot set mode..
You can set wireless channels.. so do .. try different wireless names for the different bands.. and set fixed channels.. whatever your country allows, usually 2.4ghz you can use 1, 6, 11 but 13 maybe an option as well. 5ghz is much less clear and there are more variation. Just set to one channel and then another.
Set WPA2 Personal security with a 10-20 character password .. pure alphanumeric mix of upper and lower case and numbers.

Re-optimization Time for Tunnel-TE in IOS XR 4.3.2

We have configured the Tunnel-TE with explicit path options 1 & 2. When we generate a failure scenario in primary path, the traffic switches over to secondary immediately but on the failure restoration, the primary tunnel does not preempt. On further investigation, we found that default reoptimization time for TE Tunnel is 60 mins which is vey high for us.
The tunnel configuration is as below.

While exploring through internet, I came across a forum which mentions 3 options for reoptimization but it is for IOS. The wording goes like...
Reoptimization causes a tunnel to be rerouted in the network onto the more optimal path.
Three triggers can cause reoptimization of the TE tunnel so that it can be rerouted to the better path.
Periodic reoptimization - By default, the reoptimization of a TE tunnel occurs with a frequency of one hour
mpls traffic-eng reoptimize timers frequency interval changes the periodic reoptimization of a tunnel.
Event-driven reoptimization - mpls traffic-eng reoptimize events link-up enables the reoptimization when a link becomes operational for MPLS TE By default, Cisco IOS does not trigger reoptimization when a link in the network is available to TE again, either by configuration or because its state becomes operational.
Manual reoptimization - mpls traffic-eng reoptimize forces the immediate reoptimization of all the TE tunnels on the head end router.
I would like to know that
1. Is there any specific requirement behind keeping the default (periodic) reoptimization timer to 60 mins?
2. I could not find the options for configuring 'Event Driven reoptimization' in IOS XR. How to get it?
3. What are best practice reoptimization timer to be used in the network?
P.S: We are running IOS-XR 4.3.2 on ASR 9000.

IOS 5.0.1 upgrade on iPhone 3GS,

Prior to iOS 5.0.1 upgrade on iPhone 3GS, I could readily connect to and use a variety of wireless networks at home, work, and on road.
Since installing the upgrade as prompted on device, I find WiFi is unstable to unusable.
Unless the device is sitting practically on top of a router, I cannot maintain connections.
If I am more than 2 ft out of direct line of sught of router, I lose my connection.
I have to date read and completed the following online suggestions with no success:
1-Restarted router - NO CHANGE
2-Reset Network Settings on device - NO CHANGE
3-Toggled in and out of Airplane mode - NO CHANGE
4-Completed various options for start/restart of device - NO CHANGE
5-Disabled all other services using battery at same time (Bluetooth/Location Services, Mail, Reduced Backlight even) - NO CHANGE
6-Forgotten prior networks - NO CHANGE
7-Attempted to assign Static IP to device on router side - NO CHANGE
8-Restored from backup - NO CHANGE
8a-Repeat 1-6 again - NO CHANGE
9-Restored to Factory state - NO CHANGE
9a-Repeat 1-6 again - NO CHANGE
10-Changed Router security from OPEN to most SECURE - NO CHANGE
10a-Repeat 1-6 again - NO CHANGE
11-Setup new router - NO CHANGE

During all of this multiple iOS 4.x devices and iOS 5.0 devices have been on the routers connecting as always.
The device in question functioned perfectly up to the point of iOS 5.0.1 so I know this is not a iPHONE hardware issue nor is it a ROUTER hardware issue.
I have seen this posted frequently and do not believe this to be an isolated state I am in.
Any thoughts and suggestions before moving to another manufacturer all together and get out of this Apple mindset.

It does nothing more than add a duplicate post and decrease the chances that someone might actually include a reference to my original post, which came from MY OWN HARD WORK in troubleshooting my issues.
If you are having a similar issue, post the issue after doing your own leg work and describe in your own words. Don't simple steal someone else's hard work to troubleshoot the problem as your own effort.

IOS 5.1.1 update BAD for General Motors factory-issued Bose Stereo Computers

Yesterday I could listen to my music in my Cadillac CTS via the GM factory USB cable that plugs into the factory-installed 40GB Bose touchscreen stereo. Today, all I did was update my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1.1, fire up my car, plug the ol' iPhone into the ol' USB as usual and, now, the stereo computer that has recognized it since I bought it (many updates ago) CANNOT recgonize it...
The GM/Bose stereo computer scans the drive and reads it as "Source Unknown".
Please Apple... HELP ME. .1 is ruining my entertainment experience. A communication breakdown between such commercial juggenauts (You >> << Bose >> <<GM) cannot stand. We love our phones, we love our cars, and it goes without saying that we need to rock out BIG TIME with our phone in our cars.
I love you with all my heart, Apple, and that is why I implore you: fix this fast for me and the millions who own GM cars who have not yet noticed this update falt yet... but will.
And to all you good people looking for answers and asking good questions, I ask you to chime in here for Apple to do this quick tweak to 5.1.1; so we can have our cake and eat it too, just the way we like it.

On the iPhone when plugged into the USB check the
music app. It may be defaulting to Bluetooth playback
and you need to manually select the dock connector
interface.
This is what happens on my Microsoft Sync system.
Phone functions are done via Bluetooth. So, if I start
the car up with Bluetooth on, the phone pairs but defaults
to Bluetooth audio (Sync) for the music. I need to select
the music app on the phone and select dock connector
playback.
Your issue may be similar, it may not. Worth a try anyway.
