IOS 4.2 incomplete download
Been trying for 3 days to download IOS 4.2 to my iphone 4 throught itunes 10.1054.
I am keep getting a time out error (several different codes), anywhere from minutes to hours into the download (average download time 3 hrs).
Everytime it fails it restarts at zero! is this normal or a setting on my machine (I have tried to pause & resume - the resume starts from zero also).
I got to within 12 minutes of complete download before problem & had to restart from zero again - maddening!

Another possible thing - you can download it using a web browser, if the problem persists. Do a Google search for "iPod firmware" (last time I checked direct links to non-Apple websites were banned), and the first link should be the right one. Select iPhone 4 (4.2.1/8C148). I know that it isn't 4.2, but Apple is packaging 4.2.1 as 4.2, so go ahead and download that. Actually, I'm doing it right now for my iPod touch just to be safe. To install it this way, you have to shift-click "restore" to install it. Select the downloaded file, and then it should install. Just make sure to sync before installing because restoring deletes all data.

iTunes 10.6.3 keeps generating incomplete downloads AND it rearranges the order of the playlist when I burn a playlist to an mp3 cd.
I purchased an album on iTues from my MAC book Pro & the song downloads were incomplete. The song length shows correctly in the column, but they cut off between 1/4 & 1/2 way through the songs. Now, I dwonloaded it on my iPhone 4 through my itunes account after the purchase & the songs play fine. This happened with the very next song I purchased, as well.
I got around this issue, then created mp3 versions of all the songs, put them in their own playlist, then "Burned an mp3 disc." When it completed, the songs were in a different order.

That's exactly right. And since you have a MacBook Air (as I do), that means the synching should occur just fine (if you've set it up right in iTunes). In other words, once you actually do the update, the iTunes on your MacBook Air will re-sync your photos back to your iPhone.
Basically, the process is that your iPhone gets backed up, wiped clean, then the new iOS version gets installed, then the backup gets restored. That will restore everything in the article above, which does not include your photos. But the sync process that happens after the iOS installation would restore your photos from iPhoto given you've set it up that way in iTunes.
When you have your iPhone plugged into iTunes, while looking at the iPhone's summary page, click "Photos" on the right side of iTunes to see how you have your sync set up.
Regardless, it sounds like you'll be fine! Your photos will wind up in iPhoto once you place them there. They will be safe there. -
I have an ipad (IOS 7.1) and downloaded latest version of itunes (11.1.5.5) and downloaded itools (1.8.2.8) but my Itools does not work and message that your itools is not compatible with itunes so please want your comment for that.

haha, so now i'm thinking. I'm learning the terminal as fast as i can but there are several lines of codes and commands in there that throws up red flags to me that i don't fully understand. It just looks fishy too me. It would be highly appreciated if someone could just check this out just to tell me that i don't need to worry about it. Or point me in the right direction. I just feel un easy about this. ha.

If the speed of your internet connection is slow, this will affect the download time. Also realize that everyone and their mother are trying to download the update as well...servers get taxed to the max and the download can even be slow for those with the faster internet connections.
That being said, I don't know if it's possible to cancel the OTA (over the air) download. You can effectively force pause it by disconnecting it from your Wi-Fi router until you CAN leave it connected to charge and update. I believe you can go to Settings/Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off from there. Realize though that once you reconnect to your Wi-Fi network, the download will continue. -

There is something Definitely wrong with iOS 7 regarding DATA USAGE being logged to wireless carrier in for WIFI instead.
I read all the previous replies and same issue.
I rarely use my mac to sync....its all wifi sync for the last 2 years....never had this issue before... and i know it began with iOS7.... here is why....
My iPhone was at home when I updated to iOS7 connected to wifi...but it logged Data Usage to Rogers Wireless (700MB approx)...data will never do an update over 50mb in app store (it gives the warning to use wifi) I play a lot of games and pay for them so I always update through App Store. 2 weeks later, simposons halloween update (650mb)...at home, using wifi.
Rogers told me there was 700+mb data usage on the day of update and 650+mb data on oct 1.st (tapped out).
Went over my 6GB plan and paid the fees.
This has never happened before...It must come to apples attention by now... -

Has anyone maxed out their storage since iOS 7 update forces download of all email? I'm on my way to that end. I will have to delete my email accounts. Apple told me to do so and just use the providers' apps instead of iPhone accounts. This pretty much renders my smartphone useless. Not to mention I no longer like using my phone since this awful update. Not as intuitive or fun!

There is no "update icon" in iOS versions earlier than iOS 5.
The update is very large (over 1.2 gigabytes). You need a good internet connection to download it to your computer. Maybe you'll need to take a trip to a city to get a good enough connection. -

Have same copy of book with incomplete download. Cannot read and cannot delete entries.
Have downloaded iBooks with ePub. Some were incompletely downloaded. Cannot read and more importantly cannot Delete. Connecting iPad 3 to MacBook Air does not show incomplete downloads. How to remove as selecting edit and tapping on icons yields nothing.
I've had the same issue for the past two weeks and have finally been able to resolve it.
For references, I have my iPhone syncing to the following settings:
1. iTunes Match (OFF)
2. Automotic Download (OFF)
3. iCloud (OFF)
I'm guessing my solution would still work if your syncing has been configured differently, but I've only tested this solution with the above configurations.
1. Make sure all the songs you want are also backed up in your iTunes (because you will be deleting it off your iPhone).
2. On your iPhone, access the Music app and navigate to a filter that contains the affected songs: i.e.
a. Album
b. Artist
c. Genre
d. Anything that the duplicate songs (the one with the odd play buttons) are grouped within. For me, all the duplicate songs were within one particular album. So, I selected the Album (I could have easily selected the artist as well, but that would have deleted more songs than necessary). If your duplicate songs are scattered across albums and artists, this could take awhile depending on how many songs are duplicated.
3. Swipe to delete the "Album," "Artist," "Genre,' etc. Not the song. You won't be able swipe to delete the song and will be eternally frustrated by this.
4. Re-sync your songs with iTunes.
5. Nasty, weird, non-playing duplicate songs should now be gone. -

Ever since I have updated my software to iOS 7, I cannot download anything from the AppStore app and I have tried resetting my password and updating ITunes, but nothing works! Also when I try to sink my mini with my iTunes account it says you cannot sync because the sync session failed to start.
It sounds like to me you're trying to sync using the computer.
Try these things and see if it helps before you try your next syncing session. If none of the things below work then you might consider trying to sync using iCloud only.
Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
