IOS 4.3.1 intermittently restarting iPhone 4

I recently upgraded my iPhone 4 (model MC605ZA) to iOS 4.3.1 (8G4) and have experienced 4 random reboots of the device since upgrading. At the time of each of these reboots the phone was sitting on the home screen and was not in use. The screen simply went blank and then the Apple logo displayed. After the regular time period had passed the phone was operational again.
Wondering if anyone has experienced this as well? Only started happening in 4.3.1 otherwise the phone has worked perfectly for the past year.

It is happens to me too. I restored countless times.
Behaviour is unpredictable. I can take the phone from my pocket and try to turn it on, but there will be no display. Or it can be at home screen, and then go unresponsive, showing the Apple logo and spinning wheel.
This only happened with 4.3.1. No open apps as well. What's going on?

I'm having same problem with my iPhone 4.  Even after restoring twice.   Simple tasks casue the phone to lock up and restart, which, thanks to iOS 7 takes much longer than with iOS 6.
I love my phone, but it is almost unsuable after update.

  • HT1430 how i restart iphone 5s which get off during ios update?

ow i restart iphone 5s which get off during ios update?

Try to force your phone into recovery mode. Disconnect it from the computer's USB cord. Turn it off if you can by holding the sleep/wake switch until you see the red slide to off. If you can't turn it off, please continue. Press and hold the home button while plugging it into the computer's USB cord. Continue holding the Home button while iPhone starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button and iTunes will display the recovery mode message. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 for details.
Then you can restore your phone: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

    Hi, aniconcer.
If you are experiencing issues updating your iOS device over the air, I would recommend updating via iTunes 11.1 on your computer.

Macbook pro retina 13 late 2013, usb ports are intermittent with iPhone
when i connect my iPhone 5 to the laptop it keeps connecting and disconnecting, I've had this problem since owning the macbook. change of cables makes no difference neither does which port i use.
is there any advice anyone could give me?
    many thanks.

    Hello there Jake,
It sounds like your phone is acting like you are connecting and disconnecing it over and over again even with another USB cable. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article to help you determine what the issue might be.
    iTunes: Resolve USB-related alerts
See if the cable connection at the device or computer has come loose or unplugged.
Unplug the cable you're using to connect your iOS device from the USB port on your computer, and then reconnect it. Then unplug it from your iOS device, and reconnect it.
Remove any third-party battery packs or cases from the device and ensure that the USB cable is connected directly to the port on the device.
If your Lightning or 30-pin cable is connected to a keyboard, display or USB hub, try plugging it directly into a USB port on the computer instead.
Close any virtualization apps (such as Parallels or VMWare).
These apps may interfere with your computer's ability to communicate over USB if they aren't properly configured, or up to date. If this resolves the issue, contact the developer of the app to see if an update is available.
    Restart your computer.
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
If your iOS device displays the Connect to iTunes screen, reset your device and then restore it.
If you're using an accessory or third-party cable to connect your device, try using an Apple cable with the device instead.
Update to the latest version of iTunes if you haven't already.
Disconnect other USB devices from your computer, except for your keyboard and mouse. Then, reconnect your iOS device. If the issue is resolved, reconnect the other USB devices one at a time. Make sure your iOS device is still recognized by the computer after adding back each device.
If one of these steps resolves the issue, but it comes back later, make sure you haven't changed how the device is connected. For example, check to see if you plugged the device into a specific accessory, or used a specific cable that reintroduced the issue.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

    Hi there,
I've just installed ios 7.0.6 on my iphone 4 and now lost voice on outgoing and incoming calls. It rings on incoming and I'm told rings on the recipient's 'phone, but then no vocal communication...its just dead. My simm is ok, i've checked it, I've done a full clean and restore of the 'phone. Still no calls.
I've not caused any physical or water damage to the 'phone. I would welcome any help/suggestions to get my calls back asap.
    Please help.
    Miss liberty

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPhone?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
Also consider deleting and reinstalling the Mail Account in question.

I have no idea what may have caused your MacBook to stop working, but from your description it kind of sounds like it may have started before you ran Software Update and installed the new Apps. Just the general slow feeling and bugginess is what tips me off. You said that you weren't sure if you had closed all open windows, that doesn't matter if the computer restarts itself. It automatically closes all other open applications when restarting.
As to your data being retrievable, if when you take it in they do a fresh install of the OS, then no, it will not be unless you want to pay several thousand dollars to a software retrieval company.
I am glad to hear that you have taken into the Apple Store to get it fixed, and that you have all of your purchased music backed up to your iPod. You should be able to just transfer it all back to iTunes once you get your computer back should it be necessary.
As a side note, the proper place for this topic would probably in the MacBook forums, not iTunes since there is no evidence that iTunes started the issue.

  • Headphone remote not working after iOS 8.1.2 update on iPhone 5

    Hello Nathan,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with your iPhone's camera. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice for the issue you are experiencing:
Get help with the camera on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
You see a closed lens or black screen
If you see a closed lens or black screen when you open the Camera app, try these steps:
Make sure that there’s nothing blocking the camera lens. If you’re using a case, try removing it.
Force the app to close, then open the Camera app again.
Restart your device, then open the Camera app again.
If your device has a front and rear camera, try both cameras by tapping  (camera swap icon). If you see the closed lens or black screen on only one camera, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Authorized Service Provider for more help.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.

  • IOS 5.0.1 upgrade on iPhone 3GS,

Prior to iOS 5.0.1 upgrade on iPhone 3GS, I could readily connect to and use a variety of wireless networks at home, work, and on road.
Since installing the upgrade as prompted on device, I find WiFi is unstable to unusable.
Unless the device is sitting practically on top of a router, I cannot maintain connections.
If I am more than 2 ft out of direct line of sught of router, I lose my connection.
I have to date read and completed the following online suggestions with no success:
    1-Restarted router - NO CHANGE
2-Reset Network Settings on device - NO CHANGE
3-Toggled in and out of Airplane mode - NO CHANGE
4-Completed various options for start/restart of device - NO CHANGE
5-Disabled all other services using battery at same time (Bluetooth/Location Services, Mail, Reduced Backlight even) - NO CHANGE
6-Forgotten prior networks - NO CHANGE
7-Attempted to assign Static IP to device on router side - NO CHANGE
8-Restored from backup - NO CHANGE
    8a-Repeat 1-6 again - NO CHANGE
9-Restored to Factory state - NO CHANGE
    9a-Repeat 1-6 again - NO CHANGE
10-Changed Router security from OPEN to most SECURE - NO CHANGE
    10a-Repeat 1-6 again - NO CHANGE
11-Setup new router - NO CHANGE
    11a-Repeat 1-6 and 10 again - NO CHANGE
During all of this multiple iOS 4.x devices and iOS 5.0 devices have been on the routers connecting as always.
The device in question functioned perfectly up to the point of iOS 5.0.1 so I know this is not a iPHONE hardware issue nor is it a ROUTER hardware issue.
I have seen this posted frequently and do not believe this to be an isolated state I am in.
Any thoughts and suggestions before moving to another manufacturer all together and get out of this Apple mindset.

Nothing personal (or maybe just a little personal), but simply copying my post from a day earlier as your own is not helpful to the Apple communities or people that coming here looking for support.
It does nothing more than add a duplicate post and decrease the chances that someone might actually include a reference to my original post, which came from MY OWN HARD WORK in troubleshooting my issues.
If you are having a similar issue, post the issue after doing your own leg work and describe in your own words.  Don't simple steal someone else's hard work to troubleshoot the problem as your own effort.

  • When I downloaded iOS 6 or whatever to my iPhone 4S, it took away my sounds like texting, ringtones, iTunes, and speakerphone. What do I do

When I downloaded iOS 6 or whatever to my iPhone 4S, it took away my sounds like texting, ringtones, iTunes, and speakerphone. What do I do?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Has any of this been tried?

  • Can't install iOS 6.1.2 on my iphone 4s

I'm trying to install iOS 6.1.2 on my iphone 4s (currently 5.1.1) running OSX 10.7.5 and iTunes 10.7.  I get a message " the iPhone could not be updated. This device isn't eligible for the requested build"  Is it my system or iTunes that's stopping me?

This occurs when iTunes is unable to communicate with the update-and-restore server (gs.apple.com). This is most likely because it is being blocked, redirected, or interrupted by security software, hosts-file entries, or other third-party software.
    Resolution
Perform the following steps to resolve this issue:
Install the latest version of iTunes.
Certain software applications can modify your hosts file, which can prevent your computer from accessing the update server. Follow the steps below to verify that your computer is correctly configured to contact the Apple update server.
Note: If an application has modified your hosts file, you may need to uninstall that application before editing or recreating your hosts file.
    MacWindows
If the issue persists and you have TCP/IP filtering, firewall, or security software installed on your computer, follow the steps in this security-software troubleshooting article to correctly configure or temporarily uninstall your software. If you uninstalled software to resolve the issue, contact the manufacturer of that software for assistance with installation and configuration.
Some third-party routers may have default security or network settings that block access to the update server. If you are using a third-party router, disconnect power to the router and connect directly to the ISP source. You may have to restart your computer and ISP modem to establish an Internet connection before attempting to restore.
If the above steps did not resolve the issue, try restoring on another computer with a known-good Internet connection.

  • Delete all pictures and videos after the restart iPhone

    I used various iPhone 3G 8 Gb, 3G 16Gb. Now 3Gs 16Gb. It had all the firmware. Now 3.1.3.
And all had the same problem - after restart iPhone all the photos taken on the iPhone, from the album disappeared.
Why is this and how to fix it?

For what completely insane reason would someone attempt an iOS updare (or any operating system update) without first ensuring all their media and other important data was backed up?
Pictures taken with the iPhone are designed to be regularly copied off to a computer.  Apple even provides PhotoStream to sync them to multiple other devices as well as including them in the backup done via iTunes or iCloud.
If you elected to not take advantage of the multiple ways of saving the date before updating iOS and it is now lost, tough luck.
