IOS 4 and Push Notifications?

Are push notifications finally supported on SLS now that iOS 4.0 has been released?

Works on the iPhone and iPod (running OS 3.1.3) I tested. Believe me, you almost have to have the SLS machine sitting on a public IP for everything to work correctly, but it does appear to work for us (20+ iPhone/iPod/iPad users, 50+ laptop/desktop clients). SSL is an absolute requirement for all services, and you must use the FQDN for all services when configuring the clients. Users should be shortname@FQDN when configuring services on the clients. Reverse DNS must match forward DNS (FQDN) for the server, and the SSL certificate also must match the FQDN of the server. Aliases make a huge mess of things (IMHO), so I don't use them.
Everything still works on the iPhones and iPods running iOS 4, but it seems the push notifications are a bit slower for some reason in iCal. I was messing with the iPod this morning using iCal, and noticed an update made to a calendar from a desktop took a couple minutes to appear on the iPod. Still much faster than the 30 minute "pull" interval configured on the iPod for services that do not support push.

  • IOS 7.0.3 upgrade killed Facetime, iMessage and Push Notifications

Facetime, iMessage and Push Notifications were working fine on my iPhone 4.
Since I upgraded to iOS 7.0.3 Facetime and iMessages cannot be activated because of 'Network error' and every app that supports 'Push Notifications' suggest to 'Connect to iTunes to use Push Notifications' at start.
Already tried to 'Reset as new phone' and restore from iCloud without any luck.
    Suggestions ?

Ever since I got the 7.0.3 update on my iPhone 4 I get the "iMessage Activation: Could not sign in. Please check your network conection and try again". I can access icloud stuff using my apple ID fine elsewhere. I received iMessages on my laptop through the Messages app but anyone else who uses Messages has their iMessage sent to my laptop and not to my phone. I used to get the messages both at the same time.
I've tried removed the locate iphone app, reset the network settings, rebooted the phone, reconnected to my wifi and synched with iTunes. Nothing has worked.
I'm getting ready to restore the phone now in hopes that doing that works. Never had a problem with updates till now and while this is annoying at least my data is intact!

  • IMessage and push notifications not working after installing iOS 7!!

My iMessages and push notifications don't work after installing iOS7..!!! I can't even log in to iMessages using my Apple ID.. And every time I log into Facebook or whatsapp it keeps telling me to connect to iTunes to receive push notifications..!!
I connected to iTunes on my comp and tried resetting my phone.. Nothing works!! HELP

Its stuffed, iMessage and facetime are both sitting on "waiting for activation" so they are not working, 1 post suggested resetting the phone again setting up as a new phone and then turning iMessage and Facetime on and then restoring.  After the reset iMessage and Facetime started working, I did the restore and it stopped working again.  Nice waste of 2 hours.

Out of nowhere my iMessage,FaceTime,YouTube and push notifications will not work!! I get an activation error saying that there is a problem with my network. Lame huh?? Well, I'm SO FRUSTRATED!!!!

  • Problems with iPod Touch- YouTube and Push Notifications

After installing iOS4 on my 64gb iPod Touch I've noticed I cannot view YouTube videos and push notifications do not work.
The YouTube app launches, however if I try to search or play a video a pop up will read "Cannot connect to YouTube". If I go to YouTube's newly redesigned mobile site they work fine.
Although all my settings are the same as they have ever been, push notifications do not work. When launching any app with push notification support it always states "Connect to iTunes to use push notifications". I've done this, but nothing works.
For the record, I've never jailbroken or in any other way altered my device. I've tried performing a hard reset with no success, as well as letting the battery drain completely and shutting off before recharging.
    Thanks for any help.

Downgrading is not supported by Apple.
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • What's the difference between "local reminder" and "push notification?

A friend has been bugging me about this, does anyone know what's the difference between "local reminder" and "push notification" in an iPhone app?

In a nutshell, local notifications are popup notifications from applications on your phone, based on data that's already on the local phone.  Push notifications are popup notifications you get when new info (like an email, tweet, or update from something like Facebook) gets pushed to your device from a server.

  • IOS 8 push notifications don't work

    Hi everyone,
I'm using an iPhone 5s and updated to iOS 8 last Sunday. Since I installed it, I experience a total loss of push notifications from third party apps (e.g. WhatsApp, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, GMX Mail, wetter.com, Tagesschau and so on). I'm using the phone on Vodafone's German network.
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem without a complete reset. I've found some possible solutions by they only apply to iOS 7.
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Simon

More than likely a problem with the FB app not fully compatible with the new update.   I would let the app developer know of your problem and see if they can resolve it.

    Greetings rusfrco,
After reading your post, it sounds like you are experiencing an error with app updates app on your iPad. You may want to consider restarting the device first, and then resetting if that does not work. This article provides detailed instructions for Restarting, and Reseting:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
    How to reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

  • Facebook For iOS App Push Notifications Not Working

Been seeing a lot of Threads for this problem but with no proper solution.
Ever since I updated my Facebook App to v9.0, I havent had any push notifications come to my phone. I've tried uninstalling/deleting the app & other connected apps (Paper, FB messenger) , logging out of the iOS integration, Resetting my phone, etc. but nothing's worked. The App doesn't even ask me if I want to Activate Notifications anymore when I Re-Install it....
The Phone Notifications are set to show in the lock screen & all, and the Push Notifications in the app are set to push for "All Notifications", but On the Web client I noticed that I had "Some notifications" listed in the settings (and I can't change those on the web, because it tells you to change them in the app) . The only way I know i have Notifications now is through the App Badge,, via Email or through Paper's Notification setup (But i still dont get all of them) ...
I wonder if it could be a server issue on Faceobook's End. There has to be some way to fix this problem....Help!!!

    Hi C_S1,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that you are having some issues with Facebook notifications on your iPhone. It sounds like you have already done some great troubleshooting. I suggest looking at the Troubleshooting notifications section of the following article just to verify your previous steps.
    iOS: Understanding notifications
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3576
    Troubleshooting notifications
Push notifications require an active Wi-Fi or cellular connection.
Note: Notifications use Wi-Fi only when a cellular connection is unavailable. Firewalls and proxy servers may affect your ability to receive notifications. For more information, see Unable to use Apple Push Notification service (APNs).
If you're not receiving notifications for a specific app, try these steps:
Verify that the app supports notifications.
After installing an app or restoring a backup to a different iOS device, open the app to begin receiving notifications. If the app requires entering or logging in to an account, you will need to do this before receiving notifications.
Check Settings > Notification Center to ensure that the app is configured for notifications. If notifications do not appear in the Notification Center, verify that the Notification Center setting for the app is enabled.
    I hope this helps,
    -Joe

  • Device enrolment and push notification certificates weirdness

Really hope someone can help me with this one.
After a fierce fight with my server I decided to do a clean install to make sure everything is in it's intended place and state.
Besides many, many other issues (suddenly disappearing of Open Directory, weird profile manager errors, binding issues etc etc) this is the one I really don't understand.
All settings are good and tested (DNS, IP's etc).
Enrolment of devices seems to go well. I can install trust profiles on my macbook pro, macmini, iphone and ipad. All lights green there. Enrollment of non-ios devices all work fine, but when I enroll more than one ios device something weird happens. It doesn't matter if I enroll the iphone or the ipad first. The first enrolled device works fine, push notifications also works fine for this one.
The second one just doesn't stick. It sort of shows up in the web based profile manager but doesn’t carry the correct name. It just says ‘New Device’. In the web based enrollment environment (server.domain.com/mydevices) the dysfunctional ios device appears and disappears randomly. I can't push anything toward it.
    I added some images.
Also weird! Although I did a clean install, my push certificates are all ‘signed by an unknown authority’. The rest of the certificates (they are all there) are healthy. I have seen these certificates before when they where nice and green saying that they where trusted. Is this a problem on Apple’s side?
Hope someone relieves some of my struggle.
    Thanks!

THANK YOU...I have been putting off creating new certificates foR weeks, because the process drives me nuts! (I'm just a designer.)
Thank you ADOBE for making the certificate instructions in the companion guides better...too bad this bug had me just about pulling my hair out because I know I was following the directions step by step!

  • Ios 7 push notifications

after updating my iphone 4s to ios 7 i have this message when opening any push notification enabled app ( such as facebook, whatsapp): cooect to itunes to use push notifications, i tried to backup my phone, reset setting, and restore again, but i still got the same message

Try this trick... it worked for me (RedSn0w deactivation fix)
    http://forums.imore.com/ios-7/257478-fix-ios-7-developer-build-beta-1-imessage-f acetime-issues-resolved.html
don't worry about not having a developer account as mentioned in the article...the developer account was only necessary when it was still in beta mode.

  • Thanko vibrating bracelet and push notifications

Friend of mine recently received a Thanko bluetooth bracelet that vibrates when a paired iPhone receives a phone call. She had a problem with it, however, and we've been e-mailing back and forth trying to figure out why it wasn't vibrating. Turns out she was expecting it to also vibrate when a new e-mail came in, which the bracelet isn't designed to do.
But that got me to thinking...why not? A bracelet that vibrated when a push notification came in would be tremendously useful. I can't think of how many times I've had my iPhone charging in the bedroom while I'm in the kitchen and when e-mail, sms messages, and yes, even phone calls, came in, I didn't hear them. People who carry their phones in a bag, like my wife, would also find such a thing useful.Such a device would also be useful for receiving news and e-bay auction alerts and video/facebook/skype notifications, too.
Does anyone know if the iPhone can send push notifications (i.e, vibrate or beep) to a bluetooth device?

    Hi InGen,
For troubleshooting software on your iPhone, I would suggest following the steps in the User Guide -
    iPhone User Guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
    See page 154, specifically -
If something isn’t working right, try restarting iPhone, forcing an app to quit, or resetting iPhone.
Restart iPhone. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Force an app to quit. From the Home screen, double-click the Home button and swipe upwards on the app screen.
If you can’t turn off iPhone or if the problem continues, you may need to reset iPhone. Do this only if you’re unable to restart your iPhone.
Reset iPhone. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    Also,
    Reset iPhone settings
Reset iPhone settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset, then choose an option:
Reset All Settings: All your preferences and settings are reset.
Erase All Content and Settings: Your information, and settings are removed. iPhone cannot be used until it’s set up again.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • So what's the deal with AIM and Push notifications?

So we all get 3.0. AIM is supposed to get push. So going into the AIM prefs, "push" is the same old send an SMS to the iPhone number. The SMS comes in, you hit reply and the iPhone opens SMS app!!! It doesn't open AIM.
This is nuts. Talk about things never changing.

    Randy Fast wrote:
The app isn't yet updated to take advantage of the PNS. Just wait, a few are coming out now. AP news just got updated and has PNS settings.
AIM was one of the apps used for testing Push for the last 10 days. And I'm using the paid version. One would think then it would be working.
I've been using BeeJiveIM for so long, I bought AIM today to see how the Push works.
So what you are saying is Push notifications are still not implemented?
