Ios 4 software update questions

Apple is touting the ios 4 software update as having "100 new features". Can anyone list some of them besides the 12 they highlight on the webpage?
Further, can anyone link to the new ios4 sotware user manual?

Nope. That would violate the NDA.
Besides Google, here (this is actually worthless, as Google is much better):

It depends on the device but for an iPod Touch for instance, it is about 180 MB.

  • Software Update Questions

    Hi everybody,
I'm still relatively green in the computer world, so, I'm sure these questions are way to "rookie" for you. Nevertheless; here they are.
    Software Update Questions:
    1. What is J2SE 5.0 Release 4, version 4.0 (39.3 MB) and, is it necessary to install?
    2. What is X11 Update 2006, version 1.1.2 (51.0 MB) and, is it necessary to install?
In case you need to know, I have Mac OS X (10.4.8) with a Verizon FIOS connection.
    Thanks,
    Wayhun
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

J2SE 5.0 is the latest version of Java. Mac OS X originally ships with Java 1.4 and this gives you the opportunity to upgrade to the latest version.
It's an optional upgrade since there are many changes between Java 1.4 and java 5, so some people might prefer to hold off until they've verified their Java apps work with the new version. For most people, though, it isn't an issue.
X11 (also known as XWindows) is a standard GUI interface for Unix systems. If you're using X11 you'd probably alredy know about it and therefore wouldn't be asking this question. It's not going to cause any problems if you update it, but it won't offer any advantage unless you're running X11-based applications.

  • HT4623 No ios software update notifications

I use to receive ios software update notification badges with ios 6.  I no longer receive them with ios 7.  I never know software updates are available until someone tells me.  Is there a way to enable ios update notifications?  I have an iPhone 5 with Verizon.

If you do not connect the device to power and wifi at the same time, then you might not. But if you had power and wifi at the same time, it should have recognized the notification. But if you go open Settings, it should prompt it. There is no setting in Notification Center to set for Software update.

  • Unused iOS software updates

If your iPad consumed memory to download iOS software updates that you never actually installed on the device, will the total memory from the unused updates be returned to your iPad once you decide to install the iOS update you like? E.g. you choose not to install iOS 8.0, 8.0.1 and 8.1, but you install 8.1.2 instead. Will the total memory value of those past three iOS updates be restored to your iPAD?

Well, when I first got an offer to download iOS 7.0, i saw that it was over 1 GB worth of memory. I also turned down iOS 7.0.1, which was a smaller file (about 100 MB) but still too big for me. So I downloaded iOS 7.1 instead (this was about 60 MB). Would my iPad only store 7.1 (60 MB memory) and not the others (1.1 GB memory for both)? You see, The unused updates disappeared, but they still lowered the storage space of my iPad even though I never selected them to update my iPad's software. I need to know if the iPad permanently consumes memory equal to the size of the iOS update that you choose to install, and gives back the memory of the others that you didn't install. That's my problem.

  • IOS Software Update - No Notification or Automatic Download

As of today, it has been 11 days since iOS 8.2 has been released and I still have not received an iOS Software Update Notification on my iPhone 6 Plus nor has iOS 8.2 automatically downloaded like it had on my other iOS devices. I knew iOS 8.2 was out, but, I like to wait a bit to install just in case bugs are revealed by early adopters. I had to manually check for the iOS 8.2 Update on my 6 Plus.
So, I'm curious why I did not receive an iOS Software Update Notification/Automatic Download?  I have noticed previously, on other iOS devices, that the number of days between and an iOS release and the iOS Software Update Notification/Automatic Download is not consistent. I understand that you have to be connected to a power source and on wifi for this feature, which obviously is one variable, but, 11 days??? The 6 plus battery life IS AWESOME, but, not that awesome. I have definitely charged my phone and have been on wifi a couple of times since the iOS 8.2 release.
    Any ideas? Just curious.
    Thank you.

  • How to delete a partial ios software update ?

As we all know, ios 7 requires 3.1 GB free to download/ install.
after deleting tons of stuff, I made 3.2 GB free and the ios 7 download commenced OTA
as time went on, the download speed steadilly decreased so,after 1.5 hours, it was only 1/4 way downloaded and I had to go to work. as i left the house i lost wifi connection but figured it would just resume when i returned home.
Now that I am home, the download still shows that its 1/4 through, but it says that i have to make 3.1GB free! The partial download has obviously taken up space, but theres nothing left to delete-  I need everything thats left.
my question is- how do i delete this partially downloaded software update, so that 3.1GB will be free again? I have toggling airplane mode on and off again and also tried a hard reset, but the partial download still remains and is still taking up space. I looked in itunes app on the phone and checked downloads, but theres nothing there; prob because its not a music download
    thanks

I should have said that there is now 2.8GB free, so the update must be 300Mb. I dont have enough rubbish to delete in order to gain 300Mb, which is why I need to delete the partial software download

  • IPhone 4 IOS software update

I was asked to update my IOS software on my iPhone 4, and now it is giving me no other option than to plug it into iTunes and restore it, I dont want to lose everything, is there anything I can do?! Please help!

The next thing to check is your router. It may be blocking the port needed to access the Apple servers. Check that ports 80 and 443 are not blocked. Your ISP may also be blocking access to the Apple servers. Verify that you can ping albert.apple.com and/or phobos.apple.com.
Also, an invalid TcpWindowSize entry in the Windows registry can cause problems. run Regedit and search for TcpWindowSize; if the entry exists this might be the problem. Export the entry and delete it, then try again. If this fixes it after updating be sure to reload the entry (by double-clicking the .reg file that you saved it to).

  • Sceen Sharing and Software Update Questions

    Hello, I have two questions:
    1. When I use screen sharing through Back to my Mac, I'm having an issue with SS working with 2 monitors. When first starting up, SS show both monitors side by side. That works correctly. When I choose Monitor 1, for example, it shows Monitor 1 perfectly 1. The problem starts when I choose monitor 2. When I select it from the drop box, I have to click the screen for it to actually show the second screens monitor. Additionally, it will only show the active screen for monitor to. There is a "shadow" that is around the programs and I have to click around to make it work. Anyone else have this issue? Anything I can do?
    2. Pretty simple issue with software update. Software update is asking me to install HP printer drivers. I do have two HP printers connected through the network. I don't want to install the drivers on my Mac. I keep unchecking the box, but it keeps showing up when I run software update. Is there a way to stop it from showing entirely?
    Thanks!

I can help you with the second one.
Select the update you don't want to be reminded of, and then in the Software Update; Update menu bar, select *Ignore Update.* You can also get it to show again in the future if you want.

  • Software update question for iTunes and Safari

    Preface -
I only use the software update in the Apple to check for new software, then download it manually and install it following all the directions so carefully specified here by many of you good folks.
So, first some the rhetorical questions - How much does SU check? Does it look at other Apple apps running at the same time? Does it check OS (it must!)? Does it look to see if what it suggests needs to be updated is compatible with what is there?)
    Background information -
I have Safari 3.2.3. Since Safari doesn't work for me and I never use it, I have not updated it. Several of you told me not to bother updating Safari since v4x probably wouldn't work if 3 doesn't (what doesn't work is I can't quit without force quitting and there appears to be no fix).
The latest SU tells me new versions of iTunes - 9.0.3 - and Safari - 4.0.4 - are available. I am running iTunes 7.7. According to the download page, iTunes 9 has to have Safari 4.
    The questions -
So, why does SU tell me updates for iT and Safari are available without specifying that I MUST do both updates and do them so that Safari 4 is in place before I update iTunes (or iTunes will die?) Note - I never visit the iTunes store; I just use iTunes to transfer to my iPod my own CDs which I've copied onto the computer in lossless.
Since, I never use Safari anyway, will it cause any difficulty if I DO do the update to 4 and just let it sit in a folder unused as 3.2.3 sits there doing nothing? OR does iTunes USE Safari to access the library of CD track info when it makes suggestions for labeling tracks on CDs I've downloaded to my library?
I hope this makes sense, I fear I am rambling on here...
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Mrs H

    Dear Kappy,
First of all, thank you for tackling my issue with Safari. I have to begin by saying it was intermittent, but Mr H and I have just stopped using Safari. I just tried it and it was fine - but I don't know how long that will last.
And, by the way, we have the same issue occasionally for all three of our Tiger Macs - I have reinstalled OS, done the combo reinstall - OS plus Safari (I believe that's the term - combo?; it's been a while and I can't remember exactly what I was instructed here to do - but I did it).
You probably won't want to read all of this, but since you have been so kind as to jump onboard my Safari issue, here are the links to the 2 _very long_ threads, (part one and two), describing my issues with Safari:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1986914&tstart=0
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2037950&tstart=0
    Plus the third installment:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2097007&tstart=0
Klaus1 was ever so patient and the final advice, I believe, was - just don't use Safari. It was a memory hog - using what looked like even more than 100% of memory - which made no sense - and it just wouldn't allow me to quit without force quitting. Everything else works just fine...or so it seems to me and has done so for ages (except that we've been gone for several months so I can't count that...)
Do you suggest doing this first?
    Kappy wrote:
My guess is you have corrupted preference or cache files. Perhaps clearing out cache files and deleting related preference files may fix the problem.
I'm sure I was instructed to do this and have done so, but I'll gladly do it again. How to delete pref file? and will they rebuild?
Then can I do this suggestion of "deleting the latter 2" mentioned below, without learning how to open a new account - I used to know, but have gone brain dead on this... - or should I do this too? And, deleting them - will they rebuild?
Possibly in the /Home/Library/Safari/ folder or a problem with the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist file or /Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/ folder. Start by deleting the latter two.
Should someone move this discussion over to Safari?
Thank you again for offering your help here,
    Mrs H

  • HT201210 IOS software update server could not be contacted...what does this mean?

Cannot update IPhone 4S using iTunes. Error says IOS update server could not be contacted. So how do I update my iPhone? I do not have access to WiFi.

  • Mountain lion software update questions

I have a couple of questions about the software update process in Mountain Lion.
I know that the old software update has been ditched and now updates will be routed through the app store instead, but could anyone tell me where the list of installed updates is located? I ask because under System Preferences > Software Update the default check boxes suggest that updates will be downloaded and installed automatically, which is all very well but I would like some kind of notification that they are being installed/have been installed or I will worry that I am missing them.
Secondly as another user reports here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19080258 the 'Last check' message remains frozen on the day I installed Mountain Lion, i.e. it says that the last check was yesterday (July 28th) even though I did a manual check today (29th).
    Thank you for your time

In the past,  I have taken certain larger upgrades from apple at non-peak hours (magically everything was installed quickly) other times I have taken large upgrades from apple at peak hours ( I took forever and I questioned what is going on) this could be the issue.  "server load" or your ISP (internet service provider)
    * peak hours (when a lot of people are off work down loading the newest os or applications)

  • Software updating question......

Hello, question about updating software for you folks. When there is new software available I usually install it promptly, but here is the question I have. The last few times it has checked for new software there is a digital camera update for compatibility. I have been unchecking it from the list so it does not install since I never plan on owning any of the cameras that are on the list.
    1. Is this a good idea or should I just install it?
    2. If not, is there any way to remove it from the list or will it keep popping up every time?
    Thanks guys,
    Steve

You can tell Software Update to not bother you about a specific update.
Just remember that you did this with certain updates, such as QuickTime updates you do not want. iTunes depends on QuickTime, which depends on OS version, and so on. You may end up needed the update in the future, but it won't appear in Software Update because you had ignored it a while ago and forgot, not remembering to reset the ignored updates.
