IOS 5.0.1 on iPhone 4, will not sync at all

Hello all,
I could not find anyone else having this problem, all the problems I found were with battery life, which knock on wood, I have never had an issue with in my iphone 4 history.
My problem is that I updated to 5.0.1 on Friday over the wireless method on the iPhone, and since then I can not in any way, wired or wireless, sync to my iTunes anymore. I am running windows 7, and the latest version of iTunes. I house my iTunes library on an external hard drive.
Here's what happens when I try to sync via wired...My computer is running normally, all USB devices functioning properly, I start iTunes, and then plug my iPhone into the computer.  All of my USB external hard drives now shut down.  Not all USB devices, just my hard drives.  I can tell this because I use wireless mouse and keyboard via USB.  I was synching just fine last week before the 5.0.1 update, so I'm fairly certain that's the problem, but I have no idea why...
And wirelessly here is what happens...computer and USB devices functioning properly. Start iTunes. Plug phone into wall charger, and start wireless sync. Computer and drives continue to run normally (as opposed to hard drives turning off), but the synching process stalls for hours and never accomplishes anything.
I know that I can most likely solve this issue by moving my library to my internal HD, but that's an unneccessary move I would like to not make. When I try to also restore down to iOS5, I get errors as well.
Based off this, and all the other battery and contacts errors I've been reading about I would not recommend upgrading to 5.0.1 right now.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any solutions? Recommendations?
Thanks to everyone!

This happens from an album.
I am selecting a song to start playing. I see the Shuffle button (which is grey) at the top. Of course, if I select that then the album starts playing a random (shuffled) song.

  • Iphone 4 will not sync after restore

Iphone 4 will not sync via itunes via USB cable after restore.  Rebooted PC and iphone.  Latest version of itunes and iOS.  Device appears on left hand window, but the main window only shows the Apple logo, and empty white box, and a small LOCK symbol.  Other iphone and ipad still sync properly, but restored iphone will not.  Please help.

I had the EXACT same thing and I have appeared to fix it thanks to Amand99:
    1) Make Sure you are running latest Itunes.
    2) Plug usb cord into computer with itunes on. DO NOT PLUG INTO PHONE.
    3) Do a hard shut down of your phone, where you hold the home and lock button and don't let go until the phone completely dies.
    4) Hold down home button for three seconds. DO NOT LET GO. While continuing to hold, plug chord into phone, connecting it to computer.  DO NOT LET GO. Hold for an additional five seconds.
    5) A window should appear in itunes saying that a phone is connected which needs a system restore.
    6) Itunes should allow you to restore and update.
    7) Now this was key for me because this might have been my mistake which originally caused this issue.  After the restore, Itunes shows the iPhone grey with a spinning wheel (like bofore).  I looked at the iPhone and it looked like it wanted me to go through the setup options. DON'T TOUCH THE PHONE.  Be Patient, iTunes will eventually recognize the phone and finally ask if you want to restore it.  Choose "restore from backup", and let iTunes do it's stuff.
My iPhone is back, Baby!  <phew>

  • My iphone 4S will not sync with my PC - it has in the past but now won't

My iphone 4S will not sync to my PC - it has done in the past and now no devices show up when I plug it in.?
    Please help....
my itunes is up to date and I have restarted my computer.

    Hi,
    Setting up syncing
Before setting up syncing you should download and install the latest version of iTunes. Wi-Fi syncing requires iTunes 10.5 or later and iOS 5 or later. You can change your sync options at any time. Each time you sync, content is synced between your iOS device and computer to reflect new, updated, or deleted content.
    USB syncing
    Open iTunes.
Connect the iOS device to your computer using the included USB cable and select it in iTunes under Devices on the left-hand side. Some tabs may not appear if you do not have corresponding content in your library. For example if you do not have any podcasts in your library, the corresponding Podcast tab will not appear.
Click Apply, in the lower-right corner of the screen, to sync.
    Wi-Fi syncing
    Open iTunes
To set up Wi-Fi syncing, connect your iOS device to your computer with the included USB cable. Select your device under Devices on the left-hand side.
In the Summary tab, select "Sync with this [device] over Wi-Fi".
Whenever the computer and the iOS device are on the same network, the iOS device will appear in iTunes, and you can sync it. The iOS device will sync automatically when all of the following are true:
The iOS device is plugged in to power
iTunes is open on the computer
The iOS device and the computer are on the same Wi-Fi network
While the iOS device appears in the left-hand column of iTunes, you can select the content tabs and configure sync options.
Click Apply or Sync to sync the iOS device.
    Hope this helps

  • My iphone 5 will not sync music

My iphone 5 will not sync the music i have selected. It shows the songs that should be added in gray when I look at the 'on this iphone' tab but when I attempt to sync the phone nothing is added. This is ridiculous. These phones cost a ton of money and you dont even have software that works with them. I have had iphones and and ipods for many years and have never had the kind of problems i have experienced recently. I also recently reformatted my ipod to PC and it wont copy my music over either. What is going on?
    <Edited by Host>

Yes, I have the exact same problem with my 4s! Updated to iOS 7 and can't sync. It's extremely frustrating, as music is crucial in my daily life.  I was able to remove all songs from my iPhone...and now when I try to sync the 4,000 or so I've selected, it will sync maybe 11 or 12 (if it gets past the "Waiting for changes to be applied" screen), and then just completely stop. No error code or anything. It just stops. It's driving me crazy.  See the following 2 links, one is a discussion I created and the 2nd is 5 or so people with the same issue.

  • Iphone 3Gs will not sync to itunes

My iPhone 3Gs will not sync to my iTunes on my PC.  I updated to the new iOS software 6.1.3 to see if that made a difference and it did not.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Ken

Tim, it was going through the motions but when it went to sync to songs it completed the process in less than 5 seconds.  And I have over 1700 songs I was trying to sync.  ooops !!    I just figured it out right after I posted the above post.  When on the "Summary" tab down at the bottom it was checked "only sync checked songs" .  Once I unchecked it, it started syncing fine.  SORRY !  :-)

Wow long time ago to find a thread...
Hold the power and home button while connected to your computer for 10 seconds. Then release JUST the power button and continue holding the home button and iTunes should recongnise the device in recovery and then hit restore and iTunes will proceed to wipe the phone and restore to the latest iOS your device can go too.

4 voice memos in iTunes backup from iPhone had ! marks and would not play so I deleted them and although they are still on the iPhone, they will not sync back to iTunes from iPhone.

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

  • FIXED (for me at least): iPhone 3gs will not sync with Gateway NV79

I’ve spent months trying to fix this miserable problem with getting my iPhone 3gs to sync with my new Gateway NV79. Gateway will not help. Their technical support is genuinely worthless. Microsoft blames Apple and Apple blames Gateway.
My old iPod Nano syncs to my Gateway NV79 without a problem. I’ve tried all of the proposed fixes but other posters with no success.
But I do believe I’ve discovered a real fix (for me at least). Here’s my setup:
    • Gateway NV79 running Windows 7 64 bit edition
    • iTunes 10
    • iPhone 3gs running OS 4.02
The USB ports needs tweaking to get the iPhone 3gs to sync to the Gateway NV79. Follow these steps without your iPhone 3gs connected to the Gateway NV79:
Step 1: Go to Control Panel
    1. Open Control Panel
    2. Click Hardware & Sound
    3. Click Power Options
    4. Make sure Balanced is selected and click Change Plan Settings
    5. Click Change advanced power settings
    6. Expand USB Settings
    7. Expand USB selective suspend setting
    8. Change On Battery setting to Disabled.
    9. Change Plugged in setting to Disabled
    10. Click OK
Step 2: Go to Windows Explorer
    1. Open Windows Explorer
    2. Right-Click Computer (not your computer name)
    3. Click Properties
    4. Click Device Manager
    5. Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers
    6. Right-click first Generic USB Hub
    7. Click Properties
    8. Click Power Management
    9. Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
    10. Click OK
    11. Right-click second Generic USB Hub
    12. Click Properties
    13. Click Power Management
    14. Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
    15. Click OK
    16. Restart your computer
After your computer restarts, login and connect your iPhone.
You must complete both steps. Step 1 is required for Step 2 to stick.
There are a few things that may happen. iTunes may start syncing immediately and fail with an error. Don’t worry. If the sync fails the first time, restart the computer with the iPhone still connected. Now, iTunes will either take you to setup screen to connect your iPhone or the sync may restart. In my case, the setup screen came up and I DID NOT CHOOSE TO RESTORE. Pick the first option to add your iPhone. The sync will restart and may or may not finish. Don’t worry, if the sync fails, restart your computer again with the iPhone still connected and this time the sync will work.
Here’s the problem: the iPhone 3gs will not sync with the power management enabled for the USB ports on the Gateway NV79.
    Good luck.

If you cannot update your computer, you will not be able to sync your phone. The requirements are:
    Mac system requirements
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
iTunes 10.1 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    iTunes Store account
    Internet access

  • My iPhone 4S will not sync to iTunes. I've download the newest version of iTunes several times but when plugging my phone in it says "The iPhone cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.6.3 or later."

My iPhone 4S will not sync to iTunes. I've download the newest version of iTunes several times but when plugging my phone in it says "The iPhone cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.6.3 or later." HELP!

If you're using Windows try uninstalling iTunes and all of its components as by following this guide exactly: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7, then reinstall the latest version of iTunes.  You must follow this guide exactly or it will not be successful.  Note: uninstalling iTunes will only remove the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.

  • My iPhone 4s will not sync a changed playlist from itunes unless i turn off music match. Shouldn't I be able to use a playlist and music match at the same time?

my iPhone 4s will not sync a changed playlist from itunes unless i turn off music match. Shouldn't I be able to use a playlist and music match at the same time?

It's not entirely impossible actually as someone has pointed out to me that I can turn on Call Forwarding and that stops any incoming calls. I've just forwarded it to my google voice number and then turned on "do not disturb" in google voice and whenever I get a call it goes straight to my google voice voicemail and my phone does nothing. The only thing now is I still get text messages but I think the phone calls bugged me more because they would make my music turn off for much longer.
Even though this isn't a perfect solution it's something so far so maybe you shouldn't just come out and say there's NOTHING I can do because so far I've found part of a solution. If you don't have anyting productive to say then just don't reply and close the tab. Thanks.
At this point I'm wondering if anyone knows of any Jailbreak tweaks that can enable what I want. Unless of course it's agaisnt the rules of this forum to mention jailbreak stuff...
