IOS 5.0.1 Update - Battery Problems

My iPod touch 4 battery life keeps dropping too quickly, after updating it to iOS 5.0.1, the update released a few days ago. Why does this happen? The iPod had a fairly consistent battery before this update, so I am sure that this is not beacuse of the device.

when m playing Games it reaches 20%, after sometimes it becomes 40-50% even without charging it....its Quite annoying

  • Does the IOS 5 resolve the iPhone battery problem experienced in IOS 4.3X?

Does the IOS 5 resolve the iPhone battery problem experienced due to the IOS 4.3X updates, i am using an iPhone 4 and am facing major battery drains after the IOS 4.3.3 update. Anything indication on this yet available or any feedbacks on this from the test runs? Really hoping that this is corrected after y'days IOS 5 announcement!

    Not really.
Just installed the update last night and the update automatically turns ALL the apps "ON" by default so each user much check their phone's settings after each major update.
My iPhone 4's battery was running down quicker after the update. I turned off as many apps that were running in the background and checked the other settings.
I just found out that Bluetooth was turned "ON" by default, a feature I never used, so I turned it off. THIS was probably the real culprit.
The update is still too new to know if it fixed the battery life or not. Given Apple's history with battery life with the devices, don't count on it!

  • Iphone 4s IOS 7.0.4 update battery drain issues

I hope this gets to apple in regards to the issue of the battery drain. I have been following several discussions for the past couple of weeks and everyone seems to have some type of idea on what the problem is. I'm not a service tech or gadget know all, but I have been performing several "Nonscientific" test to see what is draining my battery.
I have a 4s that has always had good battery life. It seemed to run consistent to what was detailed in the product specs. I would only need to charge it every other day on limited use or the next day with heavy use. After updating to the latest update (IOS 7.0.4), the battery would drain in less than a day on limited use which is a couple of text, couple of email checks, 3 to 4 phone calls at less than 10 minutes each - no internet searches or game play.
So, after reading everyones suggestions in the forums and trying them, the battery still drained just as fast, if not faster. I read a post somewhere regarding “Bluetooth” constantly searching. So, I saw mine was doing the same. Someone replied to that person that it should not be the issue, as it does not use much power to run its task. (I found they were wrong)
Here is my nonscientific test, but a good one. (for the record I had nothing on in the notification center, Do not disturb off, only thing on in Privacy - location services was google maps, Siri, Yelp, and Find my phone; iCcloud was off; background app refreash was off; email fetch data was off; everything else was off)
Day 1 - I fully charged my phone several hours, I unplugged it at night before going to bed, did a hard reset to make sure every app was off, and only opened the settings app and made sure the Bluetooth was onand searching. I checked my phone 6 hours later and saw the battery drained from 100% to 56% with no usage other than just being on and in sleep mode. That would mean it drained at 7.3333 % an hour. Some would say that acceptable. - Its not when there is no usage. The battery would die in 13 hours with no usage.
Day 2 - I repeated the test (as above), but turned off the bluetooth. I checked my phone 6 hours later and saw the battery did not drain at all.  I started with a 100% and battery was still at a 100% with no usage other than just being on and in sleep mode. I opened a couple of apps and closed them to prevent them from running in the back ground and noticed I lost about 2% of charge after usinging it checking an app or 2. I put it back to sleep mode and checked it again in an hour and saw it only drained 3% down to 97%. Very acceptible.
Day 3 - I repeated the test, but during regular day hours with limited use of the phone (with bluetooth off). I was back to getting close to a normal battery drain I was experiencing prior to the update. I know that IOS 7.0.4 uses a little more battery power to run as it has different features and abilities, so the battery drain was not like it was before, but a lot better.
So, my experiment concluded to me that the new update is causing the bluetooth searching to run in the back ground continuously and causing the battery to drain unacceptably fast on my phone. This is a program issue that can be fixed by Apple. I find it unacceptable to have to control my bluetooth manually, as I never had to do it before and I shouldn't have to do it now. I hope Apple will fix it soon. I‘ve been a apple product person for years, and enjoy the products, but lately they have been not been satisfactory in the phone business. I have been playing with a samsung galaxy thats looking very promising, if apple doesn’t fix the issue everyone is having, they will loose business to competitors.
    Please fix the issue!

    Hi Folks,
iPhone & iPad2 battery drain issue SOLVED!!!!!
I had a serious battery drain problem on THREE devices using different iOS .... it was a simple fix and had certain characteristics that you may be able to relate to ......
    Devices;     16GB iPhone 4 with IOS6
                      16GB iPhone 4S with iOS7.06
                      32G iPad2 with iOS7.04
On or about Feb. 28th all three devices started to drain the battery like crazy losing about 20%/hour on the iPhones and 10%/hour on the iPad2 .... After messing around with settings, browsing forums and looking at what was common between the three devices I concluded the problem was with a single Microsoft Outlook/Live/Hotmail email account in the iOS native mail app .... I deleted the email account on all three devices (along with other unrelated Microsoft accounts on each device) and did a hard reboot (hold HOME and top LOCK button simultaniously for about 10 seconds until the apple logo appeared).
I then re-created the common Microsoft Outlook/Live/Hotmail account on all three devices in the iOS native mail app ...... SUCCESS! Now all three devices are behaving normaly with respect to battery drain ......
Hopefully this will be useful to others in this thread ..........

  • IOS 8.0.2 update causing problems with wifi connectivity..please help

latest update having problems ...please help..!!!!!!!!!!

Just a quick snapshot of my chain of events.  I’m currently on my fourth iPhone 6 Plus 64GB here in London, UK. Every time I have spoken to AppleCare and told them that I have gone through all the Wi-Fi troubleshooting methods possible they have asked me to get a brand new retail replacement as I’m within my 14 day return period.  I’ve been experiencing the following issues:
Wi-Fi disconnects and switches to 4G (Restart required for temp fix)
Wi-Fi is still active but there is no traffic or activity– often when in sleep mode for long periods of time.  (Toggle Wi-Fi on/off for temp fix)
Wi-Fi disconnects and cannot find any networks (restart required for temp fix)
This has been occurring on both iOS 8 and 8.0.2
The issues are the same on both my 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks
This is affecting my ip6+ and 5s (5s used to work perfect on ios7 on same networks) – My MBP-R and all other devices run perfectly on my network.
I spoke to AppleCare again yesterday and asked for their advice as its now my fourth iPhone in just under a month. This time they said that apple were fully aware of the Wi-Fi problem and that new repair tickets were not being raised for their engineers as they are already working hard to get this resolved. They also said they could see all the issues raised on the apple discussions boards which they usually don’t admit too! I asked what to do next and the advisor apologised and said this is clearly a software glitch and will be resolved in the next update. I asked for a timescale but unfortunately none was given.
As stated above I have tried all the troubleshooting methods discussed on forums and on tech websites but the only thing that gives me a stable connection without any disconnects (especially on my 6 plus) is turning cellular/mobile data off when I know I’m going to be on Wi-Fi for a sustained period of time (e.g. at home or work). I appreciate this is annoying but it’s the best temp fix until an update comes out.
Hope it helps everyone who is having issues with their devices that have cellular functionality.
    Any comments welcome

  • IPhone 4S updated to ios 7.1.2 update and problems with contacts

I have and iPhone 4S and updated to iOS 7.1.2.  I now find I can't add new contacts or notes because the keyboard doesn't appear?  Has anyone had a similar problem and is there a solution that doesn't mean waiting until the new iOS update later in the year?

I found this tip on the internet which suggested a hard reboot might solve the problem. It worked for me.
Press and hold the Home button and the on/off button at the same time for a few seconds - the phone will shut off (apple logo appears then the screen goes black). Then turn the phone on again which boots up the home page screen. I logged in and the keyboard now appears as usual when adding phone contacts.
Hope this solves your problem too.  Interesting to discover there is more help with fixing this bug elsewhere on the internet than from Apple Support who provided the update in the first place!

  • IOS 7 and iPad update without problems??

If you've updated your ipad3 to ios 7 without issues, I'd like to know.  The issues on this site most likely represent a small fraction of successful updates, but the traffic is fairly heavy on this issue.  Specifically, I'd like to know if you did a full (wire connected backup) or did a wire backup.  I tend to do connected fulls.
Any feedback is appreciated as I make my final decision on whether to update or not.
    Thanks in advance

I updated an iPad 2 without issue.
I find updating via iTunes to be more reliable and lless flakey.
You are correct. This is a help forum. No one posts here if they aren't having problems so things tend to look bleak. I am sure there are millions of people having issues but out of the hundreds of millions who updated that is a relatively small percentage.

sir since update of ios 8.1.2 i got serious battery problem on 3g 4.30 hrs my battery gets low and sometimes serious net probelms please give an update for this issue its not alone me my friends too getting many problem commonly battery problem please can this be resolved
its not related to any hardware because last year april i got replacement new phone from apple and i maintained it well...!

Probably apps running in the background are causing this, sometimes Mail get's stuck connecting to the mail server, or some social media app like Facebook can also be a reason for prolonged background activity.
Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, setting it up as new device would be the next step:
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

  • IPhone 4 battery still draining fast after ios 5.0.1 update

5.0.1 update did not help, my battery still drains just as fast as it did on 5.0. My phone used to last 2 days no problem, now it lasts about 6 hours, I could go to bed at 5% and wake up with 3%, now if I got to bed with 25% it's dead by morning. I have all iCloud services turned off, only Maps turned on for location services, notifications for Phone, Messages, Reminders, Calendar, CNBC RT and Words Free. I have 2 email accounts, one is a pop3 and the other Exchange, both are set to pull every hour and preview is turned off. Is the issue with notifications? the only thing that has changed from 4 to 5 is I have notifications turned on and my reminders & tasks are synced with Exchange. I'm starting to think the issue is with notifications, I tried to turn off email notifications for the lock screen but they still show up.
Are we getting another update after 5.0.1 soon for the continued battery drain issue?
Email notifications continue to display for locked screen even though the option says Off, is there something else I'm missing?

Do we really need another thread, with over 7,000 posts already on other threads?

  • Reception / Battery problems with iPhone 3GS after upgrading to iOS 4.2.1

There are major reception and battery problems with iPhone 3GS after upgrading to iOS 4.2.1.
I can not believe that Apple did not test this for major bugs like this one is.
I am a business user and can not effort to have bad reception. Apple wants to gain in the business clients... I never had this with my former BlackBerrys!
I need a reliable phone not a play thing like this is right now, it just needs it to work propely. And if a major bug like this comes along, fix it immediately. After the iPhone4 story, now this...incredible! Going back to my reliable BlackBerry! It just ain't reliable and takes forever to fix a problem.

I have the same issue after iOS 4.2.1 update. I am using iPhone 3GS officially unlocked by Apple. I tried using different SIM cards and both carriers show same problem when using phone in 3G mode. Phone falls back to EDGE mode showing 'E' from '3G' at start. I have reset the phone and rebooted several times and moved to different cell areas in the city just to verify the problem.
I had no such issues earlier. I also have Nokia E71 which shows full signal and has no such issues.
I have posted the bug on apple iphone feedback page. I hope they Apple will fix the problem and test the release properly on all models before releasing to public.

  • IPod touch Battery Problems Since iOS 7 was installed last year.

Hello, I've had recurring battery problems with my iPod touch since the iOS 7 update was installed, and I find myself having to charge my iPod touch (5th Generation) a lot more frequently since I installed this update.
On iOS 6, I had never experienced any problems with the iPod touch's battery, as I was able to let the battery drain down completely, and let it charge for 4 hours (recommended). After the iPod touch was fully charged for 4 whole hours, I was able to unplug the lightning cable, and the iPod touch on its own would last a few days to at least a week or two weeks.
On iOS 7, since it saw its general release on the 18th September last year, I have found that the iPod's battery has drained so bad, that it dies too quickly, and when I put the iPod touch on charge, in almost an hour, the iPod touch tells me that it is 100% charged. However, when I take the iPod touch off its charge after it fully charges for that hour, it quickly drains down again.
I have gone through the standard procedure of restoring my iPod touch to its factory settings, and I have seen absolutely no improvement on the battery life whatsoever. I mainly back up whatever is on my iPod touch (I back up pictures, videos and also transfer updates that I have installed for certain apps onto iTunes), though I have seen how some people have backed up the data on their iPod's or iPhones, only they find their iDevice draining so quickly.
Even turning off certain features in the Settings app to improve the battery life doesn't help, as there is almost no difference that solves the problems I'm currently having with the iPod touch's battery.
I recently heard about the free iPhone battery replacement program which is now available, so I'm starting to worry whether I have to pay for a new replacement battery for my iPod touch.
Your help in this matter would be gratefully appreciated.
    Many kind regards,
    Alex Smithson

I mainly charge the iPod touch itself for four hours and it still doesn't make a difference. I've had my iPod touch for almost 2 years and since I installed iOS 7, it still doesn't make a difference.
I was wondering, if the article you have provided doesn't sort the problems with the battery out, is there another alternative??
Your help and advice is most appreciated.
    Many kind regards,

I upgraded to iphone 4s and installed iOS 6 but now my battery life is significantly reduced. What can I do to fix this problem?
I restored my settings my I got the new phone but I think I heard that with the iOS 6 updated that can be an issue and it is better to start from scratch rather than restore your settings.

    reset all settings
settings- general- reset - reset all settings
    now reconnect to wifi
settings - wifi- click network name - enter password - join
if issue persists backup info and restore via itunes

  • IOS 4.3.1 Update Contributing to excessive battery drain

I updated my Iphone 4 to the new IOS 4.3.1. I am having battery issues now. Losing 10-15% per hr even if I am not using the phone, email, etc. I have read that it could be caused by several things. I turned off "ping", no effect. I read that I needed to disable push, notifications, location services, wifi, etc. Nothing works still draining much faster than before the update. I tried one final thing hooked up to Itunes and did a restore. Some speculated on the boards that the IOS was correpted when updated. Well still no effect. Battery draining fast. I know it is not a hardware issue as it started right after the update. Any additional ideas?

Ok, so an update for those that are having the same issue... I restored my Iphone in Itunes and instead of loading the backup. I installed as a new phone. This worked and the phone is operating normal again. Power stable no issues same as before the update. Also, as a side by side comparison of the two installs. One with Iphone backup and the other without. In both cases I had no app's, music, etc loaded. So the difference is not due to app's running (multitasking) or incompatible issues. Hope this helps for those that are experiencing the same problem.....
