IOS 5.0 as screwed up my iBooks

I wonder if anyone can answer tis one (sorry for my spelling, one of my keys is stuck on my keypad).  I upgraded to iOS 5.0 yesterday evening and since ten I am unable to read any books.  It seems tat only some text in eac book is visible and I get tis error message:
'Tis page contains te following errors:  error on line 1 at column 1: Document is empty error on line 1 at column 1: Encoding error.  Below is a rendering of te page up to te first error.'
I removed all my books from my iPad and synced, and downloaded one book to test it and I get te same error message.  as anyone come across tis and found a solution?  I am very frustrated, I am in te middle of a really good book tat I can't read!

I just upgraded to itunes 10 and bought a book afterward from ibooks. Chapters 1, 4, 9, 12, 17, 18, 19, and 21 are completely replaced with the same error message within a red shadded box:
This page contains the folling errors:
error on line 1 at column 1: document is empty error on line 1 at column
                      1: Encoding error
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.
I've deleted the book off my ipdad and itunes, then repurchased the book, dowloaded it, with the exact same results...
Anyone have any suggestions? Can I call someone at Apple about this in their support dept?

Download the iBooks app to iTunes on your computer. Once it's downloaded, go to the Purchased section in the App Store on the iPad, select iBooks and you should be prompted to download a compatible version.

  • IOS 8.1 Really Screwed Up My 4S!

I didn't want to upgrade. I ignored the reminder for a long time. But last week, suddenly ALL of my apps were showing that they needed to be updated. I ignored that too until I tried to open my banking app and found that it would no longer open unless I upgraded my IOS. So I went ahead and did it feeling I had no choice. Now, nothing works very well on my phone! I am so upset! I'm sure Apple would say, "It's a 2 yr old phone, just get a new one." But I like my 4S. Or I did. Apps crash or don't open at all. If I'm on Google and want to post a link somewhere else, and then I come back to Google, it's been reset and I have to re-do my search and find my place again. It never used to do that. It would hold my place until I closed the app completely or after a longer period of time. The resetting thing appears to apply for all the apps too. For example, a forum I'm on does the same thing. If I leave the forum app to go pull a picture from Flickr or Google, or something, the forum app resets and I have to enter it from the beginning again, watching the ads, and then finding my place. If I had been typing something, forget it....that's gone. Apps like Instagram, Vine, Twitter, and Youtube are hard to look at because they don't scroll smoothly anymore. It even seems that the new IOS has affected my touchscreen in some way because I have trouble using that too. Just swiping to open the phone is a chore! I have to swipe 4-5 times to get it to open! Same with answering phone calls! Typing anything is difficult too because the touchscreen just doesn't work the same anymore. In fact, I started this message on my phone and the touchscreen stopped working so I had to get on the computer to finish the message.
I understand Apple's need to make money and try to push people into upgrading their phones. But when they do something like this...making existing customer's phones practically unusable, it doesn't make us feel all warm and cozy about the company. Apple did not have to FORCE the new IOS on those of us who have 4Ss or even the 5s. It wasn't necessary. My daughter and I both have iphones and right now, we are both so frustrated with how our phones are performing that we're ready to say "screw it" and go buy an Android phone. How's that for instilling customer loyalty? I was just about ready to upgrade to the iphone 6, but honestly, now I just don't know. Why would I subject myself to staying with a company that does this to their customers?
Anyway, I'm going to have to do something soon since my phone is practically unusable now. Thanks to Apple, I no longer have the luxury of waiting.

Of course, you and Chris are both right. I'm just really frustrated right now. I do love my iPhone and use it constantly, but this new update has really put a huge damper on things. I am planning to upgrade soon, but I wanted to wait a couple of months since I just spent $1,500 on car repairs. I don't want to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading. I want to get what I want...and that would be the larger storage...and the larger price. So now I'm frustrated because my phone doesn't work properly and I have to live with it for a while. Yes, I have done plenty of troubleshooting. One of my best friends used to work for Apple iPhone support and knows all the different tricks and troubleshooting tips to try. In addition to that, I've deleted several apps, messages, and photos to get my storage down to as low as possible thinking that might help matters. (it didn't) I thought maybe it was behaving like a computer does when the hard drive gets too full and things begin to get sluggish. My phone is a 32GB and I had 20GB full. Now I'm down to about 16GB, but it hasn't made a difference in the performance. I've turned everything off that can be turned off and clear my background apps every time I use it. I reboot the phone a couple of times a day.
Anyway, sorry for the rant. I'm just so frustrated about my phone not working that I'm ready to pull my hair out.

  • Small Cracks Around Screw on Bottom ibook

Four small hairline cracks around the screw that's on the bottom center of my ibook. The cracks vary from 1/4" to 1/2". Is this anything to worry about? Does yours have cracks? BTW my 12" g4 ibook is a year old this month.

  • Can I develop an iOS app that can download multiple free iBooks that I publish and make them available within the iBooks app?

Is it possible for a self-developed iOS app to download iBooks from our server and make the books available to the iBooks app?
My organization is evaluating publishing some free training manuals / textbooks as iBooks made with Apple's "iBooks Author" software. We don't necessarily want to use the iTunes Store for distribution because of the semi-sensitive nature of the content. To distribute the books to users with iPads, we've thought of using MDM software, a webpage, or an iOS app. The reasoning behind an iOS app is that the app would be a "download manager", making it much easier for a user to download all 42 books all at once. A user would install our "free training manual download manager" iOS app and use it to authenticate to a our server app that would serve the books, the end result being the books available via the iBooks app.
    Thanks,
    Ted

    Hi Kappy,
Actually Apple lets self-publishers distribute iBooks outside of the iTunes Store, as long as the iBooks are free (no cost to user).
What I'm wondering is if it's possible for a custom iOS app to side-load iBooks so that they're available to a user within the iBooks app.
If not, we'll either post the iBooks for download from our website or we'll use MDM software to push the iBooks to MDM-enrolled iPads.

  • HT4972 iOS update - trying not to lose my iBooks and kindle books

It says iTunes will not back up my iBooks, but i think they are in my cloud because they sync between my phone and iPad. Then if I do this iOS update, shouldn't the books reload onto the iPad from the cloud?

    D_from_TX wrote:

    What exactly does IT say?
If your books were purchased in iTunes, they will sync back up. But if it's just a software update, then it shouldn't be an issue, unless you have to do a restore. Even then, just open up iBooks, and restore your purchases.

  • IOS 7 deleted all my PDFs on iBooks

    please help me. thanks

Hello TheRealDarnorter   sorry I missed your post
I'm sure your method works but I use a Mac and Apples OS not Linux. I tried looking for the database in OS 10.8.5 and did not see anything with the suffix you described on the Mac and certainly cannot access the iOS of the iPad.
As I mentioned before, I fully Erased and replace all items on the iPad, and also did a full Restore and it did not work. iBooks refuses to see the PDFs. On the iPad, as Shapiro2000 mentioned, iBooks launches and displays the PDFs for a fraction of a second then quits to the home screen.
Updating to iOS 7 on the iPad has been a DISASTER and a black hole of time wasted. On the iPhone it has been an even bigger disaster. I know someone who updated. Lots of headaches in accessing his apps.
I spent a good 40 minutes with Apple and they cannot fix the issue short of their engineers writing an update to iOS 7. I finally just shifted my PDFs out of iBooks to Adobe Reader app which seems stable.
    APPLE!!! PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM!!!

Sorry there is no other way to reset your phone.
Don't know why you didn't get the home button replaced thru Apple.

  • What level IOS is required on iPad to support iBook Author?

Friend's iPad will not open iBook created in the latest iBook Author (Version 2 - 327)

    Hi
With your question (about having your IBA book reviewed), I have visions of a whole new field of job ads, resumes, etc. sprinkled liberally with phrases like: "IBA (live human being) editor" -- with the "live" reference thrown in just to make sure people know it isn't some sort of app being used.
In the end, for anyone who cares about doing a first-rate job of writing, just being able to manage the technical end of IBA is not the same as knowing what medium to use, when, and what the outcomes will be (etc.)
I think IBA is a great idea but in the meantime, some pretty bad stuff will be churned out just because it's there. Glad to know you want to get it reviewed before you publish. Good idea!

  • IOS 5.1.1 screwed up the iPod. It won't charge, or sync.

Ok, I updated to iOS 5.1.1 A while ago, and it seemed to have fried my charging cord. So, I ordered a new one nad waited 2 1/2 weeks for it. The iPod charged to about 10% and just stopped, and when it's plugged into the computer, it says "USB device not recognised". THis did not happen until iOS 5.1.1. I've tried a new cord, Resettin hte iPod, restoring to factory settings. This is an Issue Apple SERIOUSLY needs to resolve, and soon.

    - If you restored to factory defaults/new iPod are are stil having the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IOS 4 Pdf manual - too big for iBooks!!!

Thought the putting the manual in iBooks would be a good way to test drive new app. Well.... first you have to email the pdf (14 meg) and then it is too big to move into iBooks. Apple you can do better than this!!

OK. Now I see the details of your issue with iBooks.
Save the PDF file on your desktop or someplace where you can easily find it.
Open iTunes and connect the iPod Touch to it.
Now simply either drag it directly to the books on your iPod Touch or drag it to books on your iTunes and sync. This should put the document in on your iBooks app shelf. Be sure to click on the PDF tab in your app to display the PDF books.

  • Will mp3s from a corrupt iPod screw up my iBook

    Hi
I should give a bit of history for this question. I recently discovered both the hard drive and the logic board on my 3 year old iBook were horribly corrupted. I had to buy a new hard drive, and Apple replaced my logic board.
Four days after I got my computer back, my 3 month old iPod began exhibiting symptoms that seem to stem from a faulty hard drive as well. About 10% of the time, I could get the iPod menu screen to come up (the other times the iPod doesn't even turn on) but when I went to play any song, it would skip to the next song, etc.
Right before I sent the iPod back to Apple, I decided, just for kicks, to see one more time if I could use the program iPod Viewer to copy the music from my iPod back onto my iBook with its new hard drive. Amazingly, it worked. I backed up all my music. When I disconnected my iPod, suddenly, it worked again.
I am, of course, confused about why my iPod would suddenly start working again. But I am most concerned about this: These mp3's originated on my corrupt iBook hard drive and then were on my bizarre iPod. Will having them on my new hard drive corrupt it?
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Michael

Haven't heard of 'inssider' . Will give that a try.
I also have a Motorola baby video monitor in the room. Don't know if that can cause probs.
although I was told that other equipment (i.e. baby monitors) use G technology and wouldn't interfere with an N router)
This is not correct.. G and N both use 2.4ghz with the same band and same channels.
And unless the baby monitor is plugged into a computer it is not using wifi at all.. it is simply using the free band 2.4ghz.
Turn it off during the day and see if it makes a difference.
Unfortunately a program that analyses wifi cannot see things like cordless phone or baby monitors because they use different technology to wifi but still cause interference.
Wireless QoS, WMM (WiFi Multi media)
Supports up-to 300 Mbps data transfer
    Is this a dual router???
No it is single band.. 2.4ghz.
Dual band wireless uses 5ghz as well as 2.4ghz.
Since there is so much stuff using 2.4ghz these days people are moving the 5ghz but the range is much poorer so you need rather special high power units.. which are expensive.
Also the wireless card at the other end has to be compliant to 5ghz.. most laptops for instance are.. but a lot of desktop cards or devices still need 2.4ghz.
Didn't want to purchase one if its likely to not make a difference. Would be an expensive trial and error!!
Purchase from a store that allows return.
As I said .. wireless is not science.. it is not going to give predictable results.. ethernet yes.. if you pay to get it wired it will work exactly to spec.. it is science.. wireless is voodoo.. it is affected by too many factors to give predictable results. So you have no choice but to trial and error.. sorry!!

  • I downloaded iOS 6 and now cannot access my iBook downloads. They show up on the library but close the app rather than open the item.

I am not a savvy user and am wondering if this is a glitch in the new operating system or if there is something I need to do now that the new operating system has been installed.

  • IBooks seriously unstable after install of iOS 8

Since installing iOS 8 on my iPad (128 GB) iBooks is showing serious instability.
Background: I use my iPad principally as a library. No music, films, videos or games, but a number of mainly productivity apps. iBooks has worked very well. Over several years i have built up a library of 1 231 ePub titles (sorted alphabetically by author, and chronologically for each author) and 3 251 pdf documents (more complex sorting order).
After installing iOS 8.01, most of the books and docs disappeared from the iPad. The iBooks interface in iTunes had the missing items ticked and items still on the iPad unticked. There was no way I could make the interface work normally. No difference after installing iOS 8.02 so in the end i restored the iPad from the backup on my computer (everything was restored, except opsys which remained 8.02). Same issues remained. So i deleted and reinstalled iTunes. Same problems remained. So I deleted all items in the library. I have now started reconstructing the library (re-transferring and sorting all the ePubs and pdfs is going to take months - one of the issues is that all titles are flagged as ‘new’ and I have to open and close them to get rid of the blue ribbon on the cover image - is there some way of turning off this pesky and unwanted function ?). I have started with the ePubs. After having reached abt 400+ titles odd things have started to happen. The whole collection sofar was suddenly unticked and all titles disappeared from the iPad. After ticking all 400+ again manually, I managed to reinstall them all. But now, if I transfer further titles to the iPad, or delete some, the iPad is wiped practically clean (only iTunes-bought titles remain plus a random few more) and the sync sequence, after first wiping the titles, then reinstalls them all again - which takes a while. The reinstall works - ‘new’ ribbons do not reappear, the order of the titles is preserved, but transferring titles has become infinitely more time-consuming. More background: I use Calibre as interface between my computer (where all titles are stored) and iTunes. This interface works without a hitch. Titles are added or deleted from iTunes with perfect precision. It is the syncing of iTunes with iPad which is now completely unstable. I am very disappointed. I have invested a lot of time and energy (and money) creating a common eLibrary for all my titles on iBooks. Basically re-purchasing masses of print titles as e-titles. Apple has usually managed to upgrade its operating system without any glitches. They have normally dotted all the i:s and crossed all the t:s before releasing a new version (at least as far as iBooks are concerned). This time they didn’t, and I am severely affected. And I can’t even report this problem to Apple (support timed out!) so have to use the forums to make the issue known.
I have run a sync diagnostic test which turned up no problems. Ideas, anyone ?

  • Missing pdfs in ibooks after update to IOS 7.01 ipad 2

Updated ipad2 to IOS 7.01. Backed up first. Had some difficulty and had to restore.
All apps, photos, music, docs have migrated but pdfs that I had in ibooks were present when it first rebooted but then disappeared. Are these hiding somewhere or gone for good?

I had similar issues.  Backed up my ipad 2.  updated to new ios about a month ago... ibooks docs all appeared intact, icluding books, pdfs and user manuals i have downloaded over the ladt few years for easy reference.  Now several weeks later al my ibook docs are gone.  just a white screen comes up.  very disappointing "upgrade".  likely delete the app, download it again, and presumably will have to then restore the docs from the backup files...hope it works.  Too much hassle frankly.
