Ios 5.0 crash on preferences mail, contacts, calendar

I hava a Iphone4 and have upgraded to IOS 5.0. Since then when selecting prefereces>Mail,Contacts, Calendars the Preferences Screen crashes. Result: I cant change email preferences anymore... any Ideas what to do?

this worked for me: (thanks to @fortbailey!)
(1) If your iPad/phone is syncing contacts with iCloud, turn it off. In Settings on your iPad/phone, Mail,Contacts,Calendars, Accounts, iCloud, turn off Contacts.
(2) sync your iPad/phone to iTunes.
(3) now select the ‘Info’ tab in iTunes for your iPad/iPhone. Ensure that ‘Sync Address Book Contacts’ is ticked. (You can revert to syncing with iCloud later, after this process is complete.)
(4) scroll to the very bottom section of the Info tab. Where it says ‘Replace information on this iPad/iPhone’, select ‘Contacts’.
(5) Sync again.
Now check Calendars on iPad/iPhone, this process ‘fixes’ the information of birth dates and they should now appear correctly.

I have searched the forums and havent found a good solution detailed. Hope to correct that here.
    Thank you for your replies.

I do this currently. If you look at my profile, you'll see my equipment. I also have a PC at work I use part time (for accounting only) set up as well.
On the iPad and iPhone, set up your iCloud by going to Settings -> iCloud and entering your username and password. Choose to sync all.
Set up your Hosted Exchange by going to Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Add Account... Choose Exchange as the option and enter the info.
For iCloud on the Mac, click the Apple icon -> System Preferences -> iCloud. Then sign in.
For Exchange on the Mac, click the Apple icon -> System Preferences -> Mail, Contacts, & Calendars -> Microsoft Exchange and enter the info.
For iCloud on the PC, you must be running Outlook 2007 or 2010 and have downloaded the iCloud Control Panel. Sign in and choose to sync with Outlook.
For Exchange on the PC, use Outlook. Add the account...

  • In system preferences iCloud, mail contacts calendar crash

In system preferences icloud and mail, contacts, calendars crash, so I can't alter them.
Mail seems to freeze and only way to restart is force quit and then it is fine till I think it updates with iCloud again and then won't shut down again unless force quit.

    Hi lynne168,
If System Preferences or Mail are quitting unexpectedly, there are a few ways to isolate and resolve the issue.
First, I'd recommend booting your computer into safe mode:
Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564
If the applications are working normally in safe mode, this usually means OS X is fine, and the issue is caused by conflicting software in your user account.
Next, see if your computer behaves normally in a new user accoun:
OS X Mountain Lion: Create a new user account
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11468
If the issue persists in safe mode and a new user, I would recommend reinstalling OS X:
OS X Mountain Lion: Reinstall OS X

    Best Regards,

  • Mountain Lion: can't open Mail, Contacts & Calendars preference pane

    Hi guys,
I downloaded Mountain Lion this morning and am loving it. But I'm having a problem that so far I can't find anything about here or elsewhere on the web: I cannot open the Mail, Contacts & Calendars preference pane in System Preferences. Instead I get 1 of 2 error messages. The first says simply that it couldn't load this preference pane (see attached pic), while the second says it cannot open it because this service is not available on Intel-based Macs.
The weirdest thing is that I WAS able to open this pane at least once right after downloading ML. I know that it looks the same as this setting in the Settings iOS app, and I even unchecked some of the options for my gmail and exchange email accounts (chose not to sync notes, calendars, etc. with all those accounts since I just use iCloud now).
I've tried restarting System Preferences, and my computer, multiple times... no luck. Any ideas?!?
    THANKS!
P.S.- I've got a mid-2009 MBP that meets the specifications for ML.

Unfortunately my above message does NOT solve my original Mail, Contacts and Calendars problem, which continues. Here's a pic of the other message I routinely received (below)...
Is anyone else having this problem???

  • Cannot Connect to Google Calendar in Mail, Contacts & Calendars preferences

I recently obtained a new Mac and am playing with Mountain Lion for the first time. I'm trying to add my Google Apps (custom domain, not @gmail.com) account to the Mail, Contacts & Calendars control panel. I was able to add Mail, Messages, and Notes without any issues, but it's refusing to connect to Calendars & Reminders. When I attempting connecting, it gives me an error...
A secure connection couldn't be established.
Click “Continue” to continue creating the account. You can edit the account later in Calendar preferences if necessary.
So I click "Continue" to... well, continue. Eventually, I've given this error:
There was a problem setting up the account.
Calendar couldn't discover the account settings for the CalDAV server “google.com”.
Just out of curiousity, I went into the Calendar app to directly add my Google account. Doing so also gives me an error:
    Server with Secure Communication Unavailable
Your calendar account isn't on a server that can receive your calendar securely.
If a server isn't secure, others may be able to view your calendar information. To continue searching for your account on servers that may not be secure, and then set up the account if it's found, click Continue.
So I go ahead and click Continue. After waiting some more, I finally get the error...
No CalDAV servers were found for "google.com".
This message appears on the Account Settings sheet where you can add a CalDAV account. If I manually type in the Server Address here (https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/[email protected]/user//www.google.com/calendar/dav/[email protected]/user), Calendar claims it still cannot connect to a secure connection. This time, clicking Continue does add the account. (I'm assuming through a non-secure conncetion.) If I try to edit the Account Settings, it takes me to the Mail, Contacts, and Calendars control panel where Calendars & Reminders for my Google account is now selected.
I can only assume this is a weird bug with Mountain Lion, but needless to say, this is far from the "it just works" mentality I've been use to.
This was not an issue with iCal on Snow Leopard, which is what I'm coming from.

I was having similar issues and thought I would put down what solved my problem.
In "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" I didn't choose "Gmail" I used "Add Oter Account…" as previously mentiond.
Then I chose "Add a CalDav account"
Under User Name: I entered my entire gmail address
Under Password: I entered a new "Application Password" key as generated by Googles two step verification process.
Under Server Address: I tried to use just "google.com" and "www.google.com" neither of these worked - only errors. So I used the address as listed on Google Calender when clicking on settings for my main calendar. There is a link that will give you your calendars private address. I shortened it to:
    www.google.com/calendar/ical/your_gmail_address_goes_here
    Then it worked immediately!

  • I updated my Iphone 3gs to last version of iOS and now I can't change my configurations of Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

I updated my Iphone 3gs to last version of iOS and now I can't change my configurations of Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Generally that is a sign that the iPhone had previously been jailbroken
or hacked to work with other than the original wireless provider. The update
has relocked the iPhone to the original wireless provider. You must
contact them to see if they provide unlocking and if you qualify.
If you can get that far, what does it say when you look at
    Settings=>General=>About=>Carrier?

  • You can't open Mail, Contacts & Calendars preferences because it doesn't work on an Intel-based Mac.

I updated my Mac to Mavericks and after that, I can't open the Mail, Contacts and Calendar preferences.
Every time I try, I get the following message:
"You can’t open Mail, Contacts & Calendars preferences because it doesn’t work on an Intel-based Mac."
I tried this workaround from the Mountain Lion thread (https://discussions.apple.com/message/21303574#21303574) but it didn't worked.
Further I deleted all files in the Library Preferences folder, but it didn't helped also.
    Can anyone help me please?

    Hi Michael,
I had the same problem. And I found a fix.
I noticed that on a different system running Mavericks without any problems, the preference pane isn't called 'Mail, Contacts & Calendars' anymore, it's now called 'Internet accounts'. The fact that it's still called by the old name on your system, means it somehow wasn't replaced while updating to Mavericks.
So the cure is pretty easy:
On a different Mavericks system, go to /System/Library/PreferencePanes/ and copy the file InternetAccounts.prefPane. Take it to the system you're trying to fix, and paste the prefPane file in the same directory. Reboot, and it should all work fine. At least it did in my case.
    Cheers
    Niels

  • I have deleted accounts via preferences Mail,Contacts etc however mailboxes still show in mail app and i am unable to delete them (Delete mailbox is greyed out)!

    Hi,
Ive constantly had problems with mail app since upgrading to mountaion lion. 8/10 time i have to force quit mail but thats not the main problem. I have been trying to delete all my mailboxes however the "Delete Mailbox" option is always greyed out therefore I went to system preferences>Mail,Contacts..., then selected the accounts and clicked " - " and deleted the accounts successfully.
Weird thing is that the mailboxes still show in mail app. I have no accounts showing in preferences as i have deleted everything but when i open mail app, everything is still there.
Anyone have an idea, what is going here? Wish it could be like windows, just uninstall and install the app again -_-
    Thanks in advance!

I found this link for a similar problem someone had with a Lotus Notes account. I used it to resolve my issue with a different email account (basically followed the same steps, and then looked for the particular account I needed to delete)... hope it helps!

  • ICloud & Mail,Contacts,& Calendars Preference Panels?

I have both an iCloud Preference Panel and a Preference Panel named Mail, Contacts, & Calendars.
Shouldn't the Mail, Contacts, & Calendars Preference Panel (which has checkboxes for Mail and Notes) have been replaced by the iCloud Preference Panel?
Could this duplication be why I can't get the Mail checkbox to stay checked in the iCloud Preference Panel?
    Thanks...

They are different. Mail, Contacts and Calendars are for other accounts (Gmail, Hotmail...)

  • MacBookAir: system preferences internet & wireless does not show mail, contacts & calendars

I'm trying to figure out how to NOT store my mail on the iCloud server.  I was directed to first go to ""system preferences," then "internet and wireless," and then "mail, contacts, calendars," except I don't have a folder for "mail, contacts, and calendars."  Why wouldn't it show up?
I'm on Macbook Air, OS 10.6.8

Thanks, it was linked in iPhoto.  After removing it from iPhoto I still got the same message when trying to delete the account from Mail.  After rebooting, I was able to remove the account from Mail.

  • IPad 2 contacts will not open after IOS5, also Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendar crashes out to home page?

    Hi,
Upgraded new Ipad2 to IOS5.0.1.Unable to open Contacts.... closes instantly. Also unable to access Mail,Contacts, Calendars in Settings.
Turned on iCloud and attempted to turn on Contacts (solution suggested elsewhere). Its asks if 'Merge Contacts'. Selecting 'Merge' crashes settings back to homepage.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have the same problem. This was a very expensive Christmas present to myself. I spent Christmas morning setting it up & updating the software only to find that clicking the “mail, contacts etc.” in settings sends me straight back to the home screen. Does anyone at Apple read these forums? Although I have been using computers for years, on a recommendation from an Apple user this was my first Apple purchase, at this rate it will be my last. What happens if "Restore" in iTunes is used?

Your Settings app is crashing. Sometimes, the only way to fix this is by restoring the iOS software but hopefully it will not come to that.
    1. Quit the app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    2. Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    3. You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again.

  • Error enabling "Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks with Outlook" in iCloud 3.0  Control Panel

Unable to enable option “Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks with Outlook” under iCloud 3.0  Control Panel.
Get following error when clicking checkbox to enable it under iCloud 3.0 Control Panel.
"Setup can't continue because Outlook isn't configured to have a default profile. Check your Outlook settings and try again."
    Have tried the following:
Uninstalled / reinstalled iCloud 3.0 control panel
Removed all mail accounts from Outlook 2013 except MS account
Confirmed Outlook was chosen for  “Always uses this profile” under Control Panel – Mail (MicroSoft Outlook 2013) – show profiles
Still get the same error when trying to enable the option under iCloud 3.0 Control Panel
PC is running Windows 8.1 (64 bit)
Outlook 2013 was just installed on the PC as part of new Office 2013 installation

    Two more things:
First, sorry for the bad spelling, grammar, and all of that. English isn't my first language and I'm so frustrated at this point I'm not paying any attention to it. Sorry!
Second, after trying to repair again the icloud 3.0 through the Control Panel of Windows, guess what? It made Offce to crash again! Now I will have to install it again.
    =(

  • Changing Mail, contacts, calendars name field

hello probable something simple but how do i permanently change the Name Field in the "Mail, contacts, calendars" setup.
I press details to enter my own but each time i do the name field is over-written with a previous owner or user of the mac.
Until this is complete i cannot sync contacts and calendars as i want to, using OS X Mountain LIon.

Go to System Preferences > iCloud
Sign out of the current Apple ID
    Sign in with your ID.
System Preferences > Users & Groups
    Change name for current User.
However, I HIGHLY suggest that you create a new User and move all your data to the new User or do an erase and install.
    1) Move to a new User. See directions here:
Move your data to a new User or a new Mavericks partition**
    2) Backup your data to an external drive using clone software. While booted from the clone erase the internal drive and reinstall OS X.
**(Fair disclosure: NeedHelp4Mac is my site. I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.)
Both of these applications can be used to create a clone.
    SuperDuper! http://www.shirt-pocket.com/
    CCC http://www.bombich.com/download.html
You will need an external drive to create the clone unless your internal drive is large enough to create a second partition large enough to hold all your data.
