IOS 6.1.4 Screenshot file type?

Hi,
This is a question I've been struggling to find an answer to online. Its based on some forensic work I'm doing with an iPhone 5 ( Model: A1429)
I have some IMG_####.PNG files within the Camera Roll that I have no idea how they got onto the phone (no messages, transfers etc) so I'm making the assumption they are screenshots. However, myself, friends and a test phone are all running IOS 7 and when we do screenshots, they are saved as .JPG. So I'm having trouble replicating this to prove this is a screenshot.
I can't find any change logs to show me changes from IOS 6 to 7 and if screenshots were saved as PNG or JPGS in version 6.1.4.
This is why I am here, asking the community and or any Apple employee's / developers that may hopefully be able to either answer this or point me into the right direction please.
I've tried to downgrade an iPhone 4 to IOS 6.1.3 as thats the closest I could get, but its harder than it sounds!

Using a Metadata Extracting App, I can verify Screenshots are saved as PNG. FYI, I use the Photo Investigator App.

Sending the image by email to myself, I can also confirm it arrives as a PNG in all cases.
Not sure how you are sending it, but yes Screenshots are PNGs
The only difference I can note, is if I attach the image from within the mail App its file name on arrival is image.png.
If I send it from the Photos App, the file name is photo.PNG for some reason.
All tests were performed on an iPhone 5. iOS 7.1.1

Closing multiple apps in IOS 7.0.2

When closing multiple apps at the same time (Swipe up with 3 fingers) in IOS 7 sometimes the screenshot of the app disappears like normal but the icon is still there. When you then go back to the home screen and press home button twice the closed app is still open.
Most of the time it works as it should -> screenshot and icon disappear but sometimes only the screenshot dissappears and the app remains open.
Is this a known bug or issue?

Troubles with making iPod an external hard drive. Very frustrated. Please help..

I need to make my iPod an external hard drive, and the “enable disk use” option does not appear for me. I've gone through all the settings, reverted back to 10.7 and gone through all of those settings too. I've watched a million ****ing tutorials and I still can't find it. The reason I ask is because I want to switch to Winamp media player, which also has the ability to manage music on mobile devices (including iPod), but Winamp wont recognize my iPod unless it's an external hard drive. I'm going to go insane, if I can't get my music back for school work. Thanks for anyone that helps.

You need iOS 7.0 and Mac OS X 10.8. I have an Ipod Touch 4. I tried to update iOS from 6.1.6 to 7.0. I got no error message, but I checked "software update" in the ipod settings. The iOS version is still 6.1.6 and it says that "my software is up to date". So go figure!

How to sync contacts from iPhone to a computer

Hi, I've just realised that since i've had the iPhone 5, it hasn't been syncing my contacts onto my computer. I thought it was because I didn't have enough backup storage on iCloud so i deleted my backup (which was stupid because now it says I've never backed up and I can't seem to backup because I don't have enough storage).
How do I put my contacts onto my computer? Help!

Can't take screenshot on iPhone 5, iOS 8.1.3 - tried everything already

Help! My screenshot function is not working too. I have a iPhone 5, oh an iOS 8.1.3 software. I've done everything in previous threads with similar issues. I've pressed it correct and even tried hard reboot by pressing both home and power buttons. I've turned on the accessibility to take a screenshot using the function and that doesn't take screenshots too (so my buttons are working fine). I've also deleted all new apps that I installed after this issue happened.
What happens: when I press home and power button, NOTHING happens. There is no flash sound or quick flash of the screen that shows the screen was taken.
Appreciate any help and suggestions!

No Screenshots possible after update to iOS 8.1.1

I updated yesterday my iPhone 6 plus with 128 GB from iOS 8.1 to iOS 8.1.1. The update runs during step installation well. The validation step fails with a white screen. After 10 minutes I stopped the iPhone 6 plus and tried to reboot. It fully automatically fails serveral times to reboot and succeded then at the end. The update info said iOS. 8.1.1 is installed. I cannot do any screenshots under iOS 8.1.1, neither on portrait nor landscape mode. Several times per week I have to do screenshots. I am really sad with the bugs of iOS 8.* and iPhone 6 plus 128 GB. When does Apple delivers the next update after iOS 8.1.1? I need the screenshot option back portrait + landscape, urgingly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although this reply is late. I just want to share that I have the same issue - no LTE after upgrade to 8.1.3 on my iPhone 5. No matter switch on/off iPhone or LTE option or Airplane Mode - they all didn't work....but after an upgrade to 8.2 today. I got my LTE back now after a month...not sure if it is a bug or a reset work. Good luck to anyone who looking for the resolution of same issue.

No longer able to capture screenshots on iPad Air? (iOS 8.2)

I've tried several hard resets (by holding down Sleep + Home buttons to turn iPad on & off), and I've also tried resetting all device settings - but I'm still unable to capture a screenshot on my iPad Air. The camera doesn't even click/flash or acknowledge the screenshot attempt when I hold down Home + Power as normal, and it doesn't show up in my photos. Also doesn't work when I select the "screenshot" command using AssistiveTouch. (And I've closed all running apps and cleared my history & website data in Safari).
Anyone have any possible solutions - that don't require iTunes? (Laptop is broken so I don't have a way to restore the device via iTunes). iPad has plenty of available data, and I used to be able to take screenshots with no problem. Assuming it's not an iOS/8.2 issue bc it stopped working before I downloaded the update. Help?

Try a rest: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the iPad shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, turn the iPad back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.

Can't update iOS past 7.1.2 - even with iTunes (screenshot) - 5s

My 5s will not push the iOS 8.x update. It's currently 7.1.2.
I backed it up and then reset it to see if that would help. Didn't.
Checking from device:
Using both wifi and 4g, it says: "iOS 7.1.2. Your software is up to date."
Checking from iTunes:
It says the same thing.
I have plenty of space. It's a 16gb with only the default apps installed (since I just reset it).
Any ideas about what's going on? I don't get it. My daughter has a 4s and it pushed the update for 8.1.2.
And in case anyone wonders, it's factory direct and hasn't been jailbroken or messed with in any way. And, my iTunes is up to date.

Here's a screenshot with the message I see from both iTunes and the device.

Your phone should be compatible...
If the phone is jailbroken, this may cause issues updating, especially OTA. Also, if you used some old jailbreak utilities that messed with your hosts file, this could (maybe) cause the issue to.
Regardless, put your iPhone in DFU mode and then try to restore. Make sure all of your information is backed up before hand.
Then iTunes should download and restore the latest version.

How to take screenshots for 4.7" and 5.5" ios devices?

Hi all,
I usually create screenshots of my AIR apps using a combination of actual screenshots on devices I own, and screenshots of the standalone player by testing the AIR app on my development machine.
However, I don't own any of the new 4.7" or 5.5" iOS devices, and the resolutions for those are larger than my screen, so I can't take a screenshot that way. The screens are 750x1334 and 1242 x 2208 respectively.
My app is portrait only.
The standalone flash player automatically resizes down to fit within the screen when it launches. If it didn't, I'd be able to move it around, take screenshots, and stitch the images together.
Does anyone have any tips? Maybe a way to ensure the flash player window doesn't resize to fit within the bounds of my screen?

I figured it out
When running the app locally, need to set <fullScreen>false</fullScreen> to stop the flash player sizing down.
Then I stacked my monitors vertically instaed of side-by-side (not physically, just in display settings) to take screenshots.

I agree- I apologize if I sounded skeptical and attacking. In no way did I mean it to sound that way.
I completely agree on the software-hardware combo issue- this is why apple killed off 1G and 2G devices- because newer software revisions would never ever run well if at all on such ancient devices. can you imagine running iOS 6 on an iPhone/iPod touch 1G? That would be terrible. Let alone iOS 3 runs terrible on them and now are generally rendered useless due to newer App Store requirements (most require 4.3+ now to allow apple to kill off the older devices). forcing newer software on older hardware (apple, dell, HP,... Anything electronic this definitely applies to) will almost always yield less-than-par results. The other part is apple forcing you to upgrade by means of intentially making things obsolete. all companies do that.
All of this factual info aside, the issue at hand with the 5 is not a software-hardware combo problem- those are most widely seen with the major revisions. then again, this isn't the first time apple has gotten caught up in battery drain snafus (even iOS 5 was plagued with this as well- and now there are some people desperate to roll back but can't). it basically waters it down to the point where keeping the stock software will always yield the best results even though newer versions provide better features- it all depends on whether or not the person deems the added features are worth a performance hit.
PS. I'm still at 100%- and I've been using it periodically throughout the day. your combo worked for you, but didn't for me. And may or may not work for others- As the tech world would say, mileage may vary.
PSS. What model/carrier do you have? Just wondering.

Context:
I need to add UI-elements on top of some native views.
When adding native components on screen (Native Alerts, SMS compose-view, Email compose-view, MapKit, etc.) they are layered over the entire AIR application.
I have no control over this layering and so I can not put AIR UI-elements above these views.
So... what I'm trying to do is:
- take a screenshot (bitmapdata) of the component (eg.: MapKit, or even the entire screen)
- hide the actual native component
- add the bitmapdata to the AIR displaylist
- add the neccesary UI-elements over that bitmap
- presto
But native components aren't part of the displaylist, so I can't take bitmapdata from them...
So my second plan was to capture the bitmapdata natively as a UIImage, convert that to a bytearray and pass it to AIR.
Then in actionscript convert the bytearray back to an image, etc.
This seems like an awful lot of work (I'm not even sure it would work) to get a screenshot of a native view or the entire screen.
Actual question:
How can I take a screenshot of my iDevice and use it in flash?
And please don't tell me to use the cameraroll, I don't want to store dozens of UI screenshots on the users device.

No Full Screenshot App Download For iOS 6

Usually developers will note a screenshot to let you know would you like to download the earlier version, just before you download the app so you know that it is not a ios 7 update......ADOBE did not do that with Adobe Reader Why IS THAT?

Hmm. The problem with ITunesU videos. All my videos in ITunes libraries from ITunesU. I try add several films to ITunes library and I can watch them over home sharing under iOS 6.
Also I discover that Video.app in iphone have search control. I open Home Share -> No videos. But i try search and see the list with all videos that contains searched string. Unfortunately Video.app for iPad not have search control.
