IOS 5.1.1 Upgrade Issue: Should Facetime work to older iOS versions?

Following the recent upgrade to iOS 5.1.1 I am now unable to communicate to a user of the previous iOS version. Is this expected ?

FB app is notoriously bad, try deleting the app and reinstalling it.  Or contact the app developer.

I have this problem too - and it is on a BRAND new iPhone 6 - I have definitively tracked the issue to the moment I upgraded to iOS 8.1.2 - and am beyond frustrated. No fix to tell you about, sorry…but you can read my post here if you are into the whole "misery loves company" thing: iOS 8.1.2 Cellular data problem (Definitive - maybe)

Did you do the Reset Network Settings as I described above?
There is no way to go back. You can try reseating your nanoSIM or replacing it. Or call your cell provider and have them check the provisioning on your phone.
Or Restore your iPhone from your backup in iTunes.

  • IPhone 4 iOS 6.0.1 upgrade issues; back-up won't load and unable to sync with iTunes

I've just updated my iPhone4 to iOS 6.0.1 and went through the back-up routine.  The back-up routine appeared to partially update, displaying an error, however has brought through my contacts, previous messages and has even maintained my bluetooth connection with the car. The phone appears to function ok although it will now not sync with my iTunes and so will not download music and Apps to the phone.  I've tried to re-run the back-up however it just hangs with a message box advising that it is 'Estimating time remaining', a message that just hangs there for ages with no apparent actions (by ages I mean 15 minutes +).
Any advice would be much appreciated; to say this is extremely frustrating is an understatement.
    Many thanks.

Hello, having the same problem, but the answer by KiltedTim is too simplistic. Butcher60, any news? I have tried removing everything, still the same. It is true that Vista fails loading the driver, but, in my case, I noticed that:
    - if you reboot the sistem, the first time you connect any ios device, it is detected either by vista and by itunes. BUT if you disconnect it and connect it again, or connect another ios device, it is not detected enymore, neither by vista nor by i tunes, and you get the message, in managing resources, that the drivers of Apple mobile devices cannot be initialized (code 37)!!! This is so bad when you are doing an update (it is what happened to me), because, if you connect the device the first time, and then start the update, when reaching the point in which the device reboots, it is like connecting it for the second time, itunes does not detect it, and the device goes in recovery mode, so you must use another computer (with XP no such a problem, it seams) to complete it.
    - BUT the problem is not only by vista, something happend with itunes 10.7, because I went back to a recovery point before itunes last version, and the driver are loaded by vista every time, only when using itunes 10.7 the same error occurs, and I did not find any solution (because downgrading itunes is not possible)
So, vista worked detecting ios devices before ios6 and itunes 10.7, it works without itunes 10.7 detecting every device, but it does not work with last i tunes. Can someone do something???

  • No service on IPad 2 after upgrade to IOS 8. Waited a month to try it. A restart brings connectivity back for a while. If the iPad 2 was too old to receive this upgrade it should have been excluded from it.

Upgraded my iPad 2 to IOS 8. Waited a month as I saw all the problems other users were having. Now I am with them. No service. Connectivity restored only after a restart . These are necessary frequently. Last week I had a fully functioning iPad now I do not.
If the IPad 2 was not capable of handling the upgrade it should have been excluded. I have read the fixes, tried some, apprehensive about trying others. Why should the customers have to work to fix an upgrade meant to improve performance?
Any news on an IOS fix?
Any solutions other than wiping out  everything and starting over? Have seen that several times. Backing up, wiping clean, refreshing, restoring...why do we have to struggle?
i am spending way too much time trying to get my iPad back to what I had. I am sure the genius bar is packed with iphone 6 users and the new edition iPads. No room for folks with "old" ones. And if I try something and fail then I have nothing at all.
Hoping for a "fix" from Apple as well as any ideas.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here is an article that I would recommend going through when experiencing this issue.

I install latest update from my ipad 2, after the upgrade tablet running slowly. Probably the system requirements too high for my device. I think that users with older models should be able to install IOS 6.x.x on their devices or consider buying devices from other manufacturers ...
People are dissatisfied with the new update a lot, including some of my friends and acquaintances. Is it reasonable to wait until Apple implements the possibility to return to Ios Ios 6 to 7? And how soon it can be done?
Sorry for my english, i am from Russia.

I have a similar issue. I recently purchased an iPad Mini, and I started off by backing it up from the apps I had on my iPhone. Now, I have a number of apps that never downloaded and that I don't want on the iPad. Some of these are apps that I don't need, while others are the iPhone versions of apps. There are something like 23 apps that I have no use for, but iTunes tries to install every time I connect. I've also tried clicking the 'Will Install' buttons. There's no way to delete these apps from the iPad without first installing them, as far as I can see, and there's no way to NOT install them, in iTunes.
It''s not just annoying, it's causing problems with installation of larger files and movies. Now, every time I sync to the computer, I get a warning that I'm over capacity by 580 MB, and larger apps will not install! Clicking Revert and a bunch of other things doesn't work, either. And I can't just delete some of the apps, because I or my wife use them on our phones!

Ipad Air dead after installing IOS 8.0.2
I have just downloaded and installed this version of IOS on my Ipad Air and it is DEAD.
    It won't start up.
When I connect my Ipad to my MacbookPro, Itunes tells me the following:
"iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes."
What now? restore? try to remove 8.0.2?
    what a misery!!

i upgraded my iphone 4 OS yesterday to ios 5, today morning my phone is not working, i am not able to click any button and also its not allowing me to switch off the phone and restart. Anyone having similar issues?

From my post on what seems like the same issue (found here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/21087892#21087892)
    Take the following steps:
    1) while connected to wifi, toggle off then back on the Show All Music and iTunes Match options shown in my original post. Important: I did this step before, but wasn't connected to wifi, and my music disappeared. Subsequently, I connected to wifi and turned off and then back on those options and everything came back though it was grayed out and my only option was to download music.
    2) To get streaming over cellular back, go into Settings>General>Cellular and scroll down to the "Use Cellular Data for:" options and make sure the iTunes option is set to 'On'
The above steps will bring back the streaming capability which seemed to go away when you update to 6.1. It didn't ACTUALLY go away, but something about the update toggled off the iTunes option in step 2 above.
I did a final test by turning off wifi, opening Music app and selecting a song. It played successfully without downloading! Crossing my fingers, but I think I'm good to go!
    Hope this helps!

  • Ios 6 several upgrade issues

We, as a family, bought.last year an iPad 2 as at that time it was the only workable tablet. I was not really happy with ios 4.3 as it was lacking things we as family desired. Ios 5 was and still is major improvement. Ios 6 till this point is a full stop disappointment. Regretting the upgrade to ios 6. there was a warning, but most respected reviewers still recommended the upgrade as worthwhile. Maybe they got bribed by apple to sell a perfect world. If I knew what i know now.....
My issues till this point with ios 6:
Album art screwed up, wrong art to albums, no proper sync.
    Music stops randomly playing
After upgrade several apps went into twilight state, only delete and reinstall resolved that. Lucky I did no have a zillion apps.
Ended up with empty photo albums and still not syncing as desired.
On iTunes all looks fine. Sync and syncing again and again.... Remains a mess on my iPad.
I just Do not have the energy to get it fixed, so leaving the iPad in this state. I read the pains it takes to resolve several of these issues, no simple pain killer.  Sick of downgrade paths and their issues too.
If apple does not come soon with ios 6.1 that makes my iPad shine again.  I am likely back to troublecamp with android or windows. At least there you expect these problems, but with a freedom that others can help you to fix things without always waiting for the greater gods, of in this case apple.
My family looks into a second tablet.... iPad right now is not a sure choice.  Maybe it was the first and last with apple. Asking a Premium price and low quality (standards) on the total product do not fly together.
    A not so happy camper.

    Hello Jim,
Thank you for reply back to this thread. I must admit it is more my fustration that with the upgrade I ran into issues that I can't easily fix. Also I didn't find answers with a hopefully easier solution then deleting i.e. all album art from each album on iTunes and then reapplying it. For the 'Stop playing music' issue, I have no clue why that happens or how to avoid it. It might  be some application in the background causing it or just hoovering over a webpage. (not clicking on i.e. a music or video link, which I understand it might switch to that music). I.e. last night I was reading an article, after 30-40 sec into the song, music stops. Went into the Music player restarted song, continued reading. Then no issue. This already happened a few times in the past days, randomly and I have not found the trigger. I am not sure there is a knob that i.e. once an application plays you really manual need to stop the playing, rather then leaving it to IOS to decide to stop or switch music.  I didn't experience this symptom with IOS 5.
My album art is really a mess. I use a playlist with a selection of Music.(even 64 GB gets full ;-) ).  I deleted  even all the music on the Ipad and resync'd the playlist. Still the album art remains a mess. Wrong art with Albums. Due to that albums with no Art. This one remains currently the biggest unresolved issue for me.
I did recover my apps as only about ~8 Apps which were either not working well or lost their data. Maybe the apps weren't yet IOS 6 compatible or so. But I couldn't  see or recall that at the time.
I did sort out my empty Photo Albums by just deleting them.  The new version of iPhoto requiresIOS 6, the major upgrade reason in this case.
So the Album art and random stopping of music play are left. I do not even want to complain about Maps and missing the genuie Youtube App. (Jasmine is nice, but not all is allow to stream via that App).
I still have a backup when the iPad was having IOS 5. I did an over-Wifi Upgrade of the iPad, the same method as I did when upgrading to IOS 5. Downgrading and upgrading again without an idea that it solves all, This with the time spend to try all of this is something I want to avoid. Unless I know more or less for sure this resolves the current issues in one go and provides a painless upgrade.
BTW: Upgrading from IOS 4.3 to IOS 5 went fine at the time. It is really IOS 5.1 to IOS 6 that goofed up in my case.
What wondered me is that I did in my view a simple straight forward upgrade and I got hit by these issues. Maybe bad luck that I got hit by several issues which others were only struck by one of them. I hoped that someone experienced the same and found an easy way to get once Ipad back into a good and satisfactionary state.  Itunes and the iPad doesn't give me a lot to figure out why it goes wrong, that is probably most of my fustration. If one knows why something went wrong maybe there are steps to easy avoid or recover a situation. I can't judge if Apple was in a rush to release IOS 6, things became to complex, not enough testing was done. With all the bigger noise and the issues I experienced with IOS 6 it feels to me and my family a lack of quality standards. I wanted to give my Family a device that simply works painless.  I am the Family IT guy that gets the blame to upgrade to the latest and greatest ;-)
I do find that Apple charges preminum for their products. As longs as they work well, convinient, etc. that justifies it. Compared to the previous upgrade this one to IOS 6 is a disappointment.
BTW: I am using Windows XP Pro SP3 with iTunes 10.7(latest build).  I upgraded iTunes first before I even upgraded my Ipad2 (Wifi 64GB). The Ipad works for most of it as a standalone device. We do not have a larger 'Apple environment'. Purchases, updates etc. go straight over the wire. Itunes on that WinXP machine is only there for an occasional backup and sync. Not sure if that matters in this case.
    Thank you for reaching out,
    Bas.

  • IPad Mini IOS 8 upgrade issue

Last Night i connected my IPad mini to my PC to sync it with ITune. I got message for IOS 8 upgrade. So i decided to Upgrade it to IOS 8. And i selected "Download and Update" option on ITune. I got the IOS 8 downloaded but while installing it, it deleted the previous IOS 7 and then gave a error message. Then I found that my IPad lost the OS.
Now I am trying to Restore my IPad to factory setting via ITune, But its failing.
    Don't know what to do.
Can any one gave me any suggestion to resolve it ??

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
    3. Repeat the process if necessary.

  • Should i upgrade my ipod touch 5th generation to iOS 8.0.2?

so far i have the iOS 7 latest update for my ipod touch 5th generation. However, i noticed that iOS 8.0.2 is released. i know that the first iOS 8 update crashed a lot as well as decrease speed, and i'm not sure if the new update fixed it. Would my ipod still function at the same speed?

I upgraded all my devices to iOS 8 with no problems except slightly faster battery drain.
Note that some users always have problems with any iOS update so just because you hear of problems does not mean it is any worse than other update. It is not worse than other updates.
iOS 8 does included some better security features so I would update

After my iOS 6.1.2 upgrade Battery drains out very very fast and Apps Crashing on frequent basis. Called up apple but in vein... Any Workarounds here ?
Till iOS 6.1.1 it was perfectly fine.
The problem is more pathetic with the battery charging. Even though I chagre it for hours, it just drains out in the next couple of hours...

The same problem here.. its just goes on draing out and out...
I have tried several ways of downgrading it but failed..
Try contacting Apple Support in your country.... Else it seems we have no other way then to wait for the 6.1.3 upgrade..
