IOS 5.1 battery

When I upgraded to 5.01, it fixed the battery issues I was having. Life was grand.
Today, I upgraded to 5.1 and now I am losing about 1% battery life per hour, just on standby. With active use, I can probably burn 10% an hour or more. I used to get a whole day or more out of average use and now it's back to what it was like at 5.0.
Luckily I have a charger pack, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm now experiencing worse performance after an update that was supposed to remedy the problem it has just caused.
Has anyone else experienced worse battery life with the new iOS?

My battery life seems to be doing much better now. I'm up to 6 hours of usage on a full charge with 16% battery power left. That's reasonable I suppose. I only lost 7% on standby last night while asleep.
Still have my fingers crossed on the battery shutting off with a high percentage. Trust me nothing is running in the background. I've spent more time than I can count on the phone with Apples engineers, even allowing them to port into my phone and they can't figure out what's going on either. The people at Verizon just stand their in amazement when they watch it shut off at 35%. "This is unusual" is the response I always get. No kidding!! Apple has walked me thru every reset and restore possible. I've even set up a new iTunes account on a different computer to start fresh. Same problem. All of my replacements have come from Verizon, so the current phone sent to me came from Apple two days ago. They said that their could have somehow been a bad batch of phones that Verizon received…who knows. I just want it to work!!
As for your battery issue. I've learned that the iPhone stops charging at 100% (when the little plug icon shows in the battery indicator) after this the phone starts to drain again before reaching a certain level and the charge cycle begins anew. So if you're leaving your phone plugged in overnight this most likely what you are experiencing when it says there is only a 98% charge.

  • HT1476 ever since I upgraded to ios 7, the battery life is very short and I do not use my ipad all that much.l have been on the phone to apple 3 times, turning off all kinds of things I so not use and have powered off more than before but it is still poor

ever since I upgraded to ios 7, my battery life is very short. I do not use the ipad all that much and have to charge it twice as much as before. I have been on the phone to Apple 3 times and turned off a number of things that I am not using and now power it off more regularly but still not happy with battery life. It is less than a year old and as I said, I don' t use it all that much

My best bet would be to restore the phone. Back it up to itunes, and then reset it Factory settings. This way, any corrupt software will be removed, and you can start fresh. Make sure you back it up first. By the sounds of it, you are using the phone for business and probably need the data from it. Hope this helps!

After updating to iOS 6 my battery life of iPad 2 has reduced drastically..plz help..have tried all the standard solutions suggested in forums but doesn't help

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • My iphone 4s doesn't work with iOs 8. Battery drains very fast!!

After installing iOS 8  I'm starting to hate my smartphone. With iOS 7  the battery lasted until the evening while now barely reaches mid-afternoon with the same use of the phone and being careful not to leave apps in the background. I'm afraid to use the smartphone to save battery power ... frustrating!!
I ask Apple to release as soon as possible an upgrade to fix all the problems with iphone 4s or enable us to return to iOS 7.

    Hi Massimo1973,
If you are having battery life issues with your iPhone, you may want to read over the tips in this article -

  • IOS 4.1 battery drain understood

So I went to the Apple Store locally today to have my iPhone 4 examined for the post iOS 4.1 battery drain and heat issue.
It took about 90 seconds for them to identify an issue and replace my phone. Apparently the 4.1 update changes the modem software rev and actually creates a background process that is unnamed and never stops. It's a bug apparently.
My iPhone 4 was one of the original 600,000 sold on day one. In fact, mine was delivered the day before the release. I am thinking the first phones might be more susceptible to this.
So, the replacement is running 4.0.2 and the older modem FW rev and is absolutely wonderful again. No 4.1 until this issue is resolved.
Point is, there is an actual issue with SOME of the phones, so don't let anyone tell you you're wrong and you shouldn't have to disable ANYTHING to use your phone normally.
The guys at my local store were very helpful and interested in this issue.
Anyway, if you're troubled by the battery drain, take your phone back and let them try to identify if yours is affected. After all, if we want the bugs fixed, we need to let them know and this forum really won't do that.

Good on ya' then. I'm glad it's not widespread. However, it's also not a one-off. If it's a problem the Genius Bar knows about already, then a fix is obviously in the works. Just like with the touch of death, they're in damage control mode until they know how big it is.
I'm so tempted to update the new phone, but it's just working so well on 4.0.2 that the idea of a repeat just terrifies me.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

Can anyone help me with this issue???

Connect your iTouch to your PC then open iTunes, if iTunes does not recognize your device, try to hold the SLEEP Button and the HOME button at the same time (iPod Reset) for a couple of seconds until the "Charging Tone sounds, now you should be seeing your device name in the iTunes " Device List". If you do, just click RESTORE and iTunes will automatically restore your iTouch to original set-up and download the iOS6 update.
    Hope this helps..

  • Upgrade to IOS 5.1 battery life is a issue for me now.

Upgrade to IOS 5.1 battery life is a issue for me now. 2 hours and battery drained 25 %  with only a few text messages sent. And why hasnt direction/map search for siri in canada still not working?
    what the &%*@ apple?
safe to say, this is my first iphone and last.

I would hope that "addressed" is a nice way of saying they fixed the bugs they introduced in earlier releases. I mean, if you address the situation without actually resolving it, what value is that?
If you didn't have a battery life issue in 5.0.1 and you now have one in 5.1, that's obviously disturbing. Since you're not near a Genius Bar, you can always try the standard routine:
    - Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings
    - Set up as a new phone and NOT restore from backup. Try running as a clean phone with no third-party apps and see if that makes a difference before restoring your apps.
If you check Settings -> General -> Usage what are the numbers? Does "Usage" have a high value you wouldn't expect?
Does the phone seem warm while it's not being used? That's indicative of a process that is running in a loop and draining battery even while you're not using it.

  • Will Apple fix the iOS 5.1 battery drain issue?

People keep giving battery saving solutions to the iOS 5.1 battery drain problem but that is not the issue.  With iOS 5.0 battery life was terriable. Apple quickly fixed it with 5.01.  Now with 5.1 battery life is back to terrible.  I could go at least two days without a charge.  After the update (and all my patterns and behaviors being the same), I don't even get a full day!  Apple needs to fix this! Or allow us to go back to iOS 5.01.  Will Apple fix this and if so how soon can we expect a solution?

Yes, you need to setup the phone as new.  I understand your issues on the whole process of setting everything from scratch, I'm afraid that's the only way out.  However, if you look closely, on the whole, it boils down to following issues only.
Contacts - You will get this back once you setup your iCloud account on the phone so it shouldn't be a great issue.
Apps - Do a transfer purchase to your mac/pc before going for firmware complete reset, once you set the phone as new, you can always sync back the apps. This beats the inapp things like game levels, or your pdf docs synced earlier.  iBooks can be restored, otherwise enable document and files backup to iCloud in settings before resetting the phone, then you can get everything back from iCloud.
Mails - If you have a mac you can keep all your mail accounts configured on Mail.app, post install you can bring them back from Mail.app to phone easily; otherwise, I'm afraid you need to do everything manually
Settings - you will have to setup your wifi configuration, VPN if any manually from the scratch
Dispite all the hasseles listed above, the battery fix would be a hot sun on the face in a winter day.  Go for it!

  • IOS 6 issues - battery, wifi and cursor

Hopefully Apple development team members read these forums and can add a fix to the new iOS updates.
I'm having an issue with battery life on iPhone 5 and iPad 3.
On Tuesday I had 100% at 8am, two calls and a couple of iMessage throughout the day and a totally flat phone battery by 8pm. iPad battery is decreasing at an unreasonably fast rate.
I have disabled a lot of services which I know would run in the background, but doesn't seem like a poor fix? What's the pint in having these options if it is to the detriment of the device they were built for.
There are a number of other issues I would like to raise, notably last night I received an iMessage from a person and then two as part of a group iMessage. I read the messages in the two separate conversations and my message icon still had 3 new messages. Back to the messages app and I have the two conversations still showing as unread even though I have read all the new messages. Then it started to get weird. I had no text on the screen but could continue scrolling down infinitely with time and date stamps on the blue back ground.
I am also frequently losing the cursor and magnifier when trying to edit text I am writing. It's mainly happens using the mail app. These things will probably be reported elsewhere and fixed soon. Just glitches I know, nothing too major.
I am also being signed out of iCloud on my ipad. I have to sign in every so often - last night I sent a message from iPad and when I went to send another (about 1 hour later) I had to sign in again! Frustrating.
Both my devices have horribly slow wifi connections since upgrading to iOS 6 ( I have tried changing the wifi settings - each device has its own ip now and the dns changes from 8.8.8.8.8 to 8.8.4.4 to 208.67.222.222 to try and speed things up ). Please do something about this. I don't think it's fair to have to change settings constantly just to get a decent connection.
Also, it seems that my device must be on the whole time I'm updating apps. I am constantly getting messages that an app couldn't be updated and I have to retry. It only happens when I update all and then lock the device.  Updates used to run in the background. That just makes sense!
Maps-please add public transport to your map, or allow google maps to create an app. I understand apple maps is new but the lack of public transport info is like losing an arm.
Dictionary. It seems to be dumber and getting worse!! The predictive text options are absolutely laughable at times!! (Can satin) this word was suggested after a minor misspelling of conversation!!! I remember the AI was a lot more intelligent in iOS 4 and maybe even early 5.
iCloud. Lately my apps and photos aren't synching to my other device (iPad to iPhone and vice versa). It used to be simultaneous and now I have to install the app to both devices myself. The photos - it just seems to be random now. I got photos added to my other device's photo stream two days later and I was connected to wifi the whole time!
Hopefully others have these (some or all) issues and my email is enough to get them listed as urgent updates!
    Thanks for reading guys.

I have the same problem.  The work around I ended up using is turning Cellular Data off.  As soon as that is shut down then it will load the terms of service page.  I ran into the problem when I updated to iOS 6 on my iPhone 4 and when I moved to the iPhone 5 I had the same problem.  I turn off the cellular data anytime I try to connect to a proxy wifi system and then when I leave the network turn the cellular data back on, it's a bit easier than doing full restarts.

  • IOS 7.1 Battery-Reset fix

Anyone else having this issue-Charge all night and as soon as it is unplugged the battery indicator drops a few % with minimal use.  I restart the phone by doing the home button/power button hold until it restarts.  Battery jumps up 3%-5% as charged and pretty much is solid the whole day.  If I do not reset then the drain is quick.
I did a complete restore via itunes on the 7.1 update and do not have much on the phone. I am contacting apple support to log the issue but if anyone else has this problem maybe we can figure out what would get stuck after a charge to drain the battery and why the reboot always corrects it.  Possible bug issue?  Seems like apple could figure out that one quick if so but we have to let them know.
All in all I am happy with 7.1 and other than that weird aspect my phone finally lasts all day and workd fine.
    thx

That did nothing except have me go in and reset all of my settings back to the non battery draining settings.  I am having now worse drain, it went from 92%-86% in 5 minutes time while adjusting the settings.  Big mistake doing that and I was wary as that same thing happened after the IOS 7.0.6 update and I reset settings on someones advise.
I will call apple and see what they can tell me.  I hope its an update they fix fast and my phone can adjust back to where it was or I'll be back to wiping it and starting over again which is garbage to have to do..

  • IOS 7.1 Battery Life Fix

I updated my iPhone 4S to iOS 7.1 and after a couple of weeks decided that the battery was draining faster than it used to.  Not some of the super fast 50% in an hour kind of drain, but I was not getting a full day out of it.
I did everything I could think of and tried all the fixes I found in these discussions with one exception that I will get to shortly.  I did resets, I shut down everything running in the background, I did full battery charge cycles, I shut of any Location Service that I didn't need, I set my email to manually fetch, etc. etc.
I was still seeing a fairly rapid drain on my battery.  So I decided to do a Reset All Settings reset and this seems to have helped.  I held off on this because it is annoying to have to go back in and reset all the settings I had already tweaked but it seems to have done the trick.  I can now get a full day out of my phone and don't have to sit with it plugged in to the charger everytime I get back to my desk.
So if you are having a slow battery drain, or even a fast one, I would recommend doing a Reset All Settings reset and see if it helps you.  It seems to have done the trick for me.
