Ios 5 battery management problems

Has anyone else had problems with battery management issues, since upgrading their iphone to the new ios 5.0???

I have everything turned off, wifi, location services, etc. and my iPod is still heating up and battery is draining in no time. Also, performance for all apps has degraded.

test if it charges with an ac charger
test if it's detected by another computer
if it's no to both then likely the connector is broken
if it's yes to both thne it's likely your computers itunes install which is the problem

  • Lion Battery Management Software seems to be erratic.

The Lion OS X 10.7.2 battery management software appears to be very erratic.
I just brought a new MacBook Pro direct from Apple last week (late 2011, 15", 2.4 GHz, 8 GB 1333 Mhz DDR3, 7500 rpm disc) with Lion OS X 10.7.2 preinstalled, i.e., the latest and greatest. I was only getting 3 hours on a battery charge until it ran out. After searching the forums nothing quite matched (older models, different graphic cards, more constrained systems, Lion software upgrades, etc).
I have the screen brightness set to about 50%, the power option "put disks to sleep whenever possible", and the keyboard set to turn off the light after 30 seconds of non-use. On battery, I have "display sleep" at 6 minutes and "computer sleep" set to 10 minutes. So I am not pushing the power consumption very hard.
I ran a "repair" from the recovery partition and my hard disk had no problems.
So I tried the Reset Power Manager metioned in another thread:
    Shutdown
    Depress Ctrl+Option+Shift
    Power on
Hold for at least 10 seconds
    Power on
and that extended my battery charge to 6 hours, not quite the 7 hours advertised. (I even tried it on my mid 2009 Mac Book Pro 13", Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8 and its battery life was extended by about .67%).
But I started seeing odd reporting in the "time remaining" in the battery icon. The "time remaining" would fluctuate by as much as 20% in a just a few seconds, going either up or down! For example, it would jump from 4 hours to 3 hours, then up to 3.5 hours then up to 4.5 hours, down to 1.3 hours, and back up to 4.0, and so forth whenever I changed the state.
So I watched the "battery charge remaining" over several hours with different states:  (WIFI on/off, start/stop applications, turn Thunderbird/Firefox to offline and back to online; Thunderbird is not an issue because I have it set to check for incoming messages every 2 hours not every few minutes) and I monitored using the Activity Monitor and the widget iStat Pro. The cpu was reported to never exceed 2% busy, user+system, and free memory never fell below 5.9 GB with minimwl swapping and paging, i.e. the machine was basically idle even when I had WIFI on with Firefox watching Adobe Flash video from the net, which is purportedly a CPU hog (it is not).
Has anyone else seen this erratic battery software managemt behavior? Does any have an explanation?

I noticed in some archived threads that someone suggested changing "time" to "percentage" because "time" remaining is calculated every few seconds and is very sensitive to changes of state as I noted in my post. I don't see that "solution" as much use because it doesn't tell me "percentage" of what? The amount of charge left? What I really what to know is "how long will my charge last?". 70% of 3 hours is something quite different than 70% of 7 hours. It seems to me that the time remaining ought to be calculated less often. The value is reported in hh:mm. I don't see much point in calculating it every few seconds. Once a minute would actually be more accurate.

  • Apple wireless keyboard, mouse and trackpad battery management is SO MESSED UP! HELP!

I have like 2 dozen batteries that I have swapped in the days since 10.8.4. The **** thing just drains in like 4 days. I am using apple wireless keyboard and mouse/trackpad (either at a time) with my macbook pro that is in closed lide clamshell mode less than a feet away from these devices. the batteries are draining like crazy! 3-4 days! they used to work for like weeks! i have heard in another thread that there is some bluetooth driver issue.
i know many of you would come up with things to check for like other wireless devices, etc. but like I said i have been using this since 2011 and only now since 10.8.4 they have gone crazy!
whats even more weird is that i dont think the batteries are really draining. its something to do with the battery management hardware/software that fails to see the power inside. when i remove the currently dead battery and put in one that was indicated having 0% charger i get a magically 50+ % sometimes event 80! a reboot and the figure is something else! since this is happening with all the three input devices i think its something to do with macbook pro.
    any fix?
    Neerav

    SOLUTION:
Put the devices in "Manual paring mode"
    1. Turn device off.
    2. Push and hold in power button until the LED starts flashing on and off.
    3. Try the paring procedure.
    4. It should work.
I went to the apple store and this is what they did. They got the trackpad paired no problem, but the keyboard would refuse to make connection. At first they blamed windows and didn't want to replace the keyboard because it worked fine under OSX. However I made them try one of their keyboards and it paired fine. So they ended up swapping out my keyboard for one of the newer ones and now it pairs with both windows and OSX with no problem!

  • Fix battery discharge problem?

I have been working with this for 2 weeks w/o success.
Lawrence Finch and others have helped.
First, I tried the battery recalibration and it seemed to work.
I could pass the " battery drain test".
    That didn't last.
Now, when I redid the drain test, neither the usage time nor
standby time changed in 5 minutes - that's weird.
Next, I'll try Scotty's suggestions about Background ap refresh.
Following a suggestion, I upgraded this week to iOS 8.1
    Alas, that failed, too.
After upgrading to 8.1, the problem remains.
After recharging my phone, I use for one or two calls, one or two messages.
    Otherwise, it has been sitting.
During the first upgrade to 8.0.2 some weeks ago,
I added a pass code and downloaded NUMBERS, an app I use heavily on my Mac.
Could either of those be the problem?
I've searched the on-line manual for how to delete NUMBERS to no avail.
I just redid the"battery drain test" suggested weeks ago: noted standby and usage times, pushed the standby
button to put it to sleep, came back 7 mintues later. Result: no change in either standby or usage times.
Previously, I did get a result indicating a battery drain problem.
The battery is dead in 24 hours.
Should I give up and head for the Apple Store?
    I'm really getting frustrated.
Thanks so much for your patience,
Thanks in advance for your help.
Many thanks for your previous responses and suggestions!!

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Portege Z830 Battery Manager stopped working

    Hi -
first time here and have looked extensively for an answer to this problem.
I use the Toshiba Battery Manager facility to charge my battery no higher than 80% unless I need to.
A month or so ago, I disabled some start up programs and fear I've messed up a setting, because I can't get it to work again.
I've been fiddling around with it for too long now and I'm concerned about frying my battery (like I did with my last laptop) by having it plugged in all day.
Can anyone here suggest an answer (understandable by a Luddite like me)?
PS. I'm aware that I have to drain the power to below 50% before it will kick back in - have tested this several times.
    Thanks in advance guys.

Sorry mate but what do you want to do excatly?
Do you want to calibrate the main battery?
The battery should be calibrated from time to time to keep a good battery performance and to increase the battery life time.
To calibrate the battery, you should run the notebook at battery power until the battery would be fully empty. Then connect the AC adaptor and charge it until the battery indicator would switch to green (or blue depending on the notebook model).
This procedure should be repeated two, three times in the row
But even if you would calibrate the battery, someday the battery would start to lose the performance and will die.

  • Does 4.2 fix 4.1s battery drain problem?

    or make it worse?

Neither. 4.1 does not have a battery drain problem, your iPhone has a battery drain problem. You need to fix the problem at its root. Every version has caused problems for some people, and it isn't a problem in the release, it is a problem with something getting corrupted during the update process. Here's the evidence:

  • Is the latest version of ipod software causing battery charging problems?

I have access to three different G3 ipods. All of them charged fine (either on AC wall charge or through firewire through the Mac. Now all three have the same charging problem after update to the latest Ipod software. All seem to recharge for only an hour or so then stop charging and show the large full battery icon but when disconnected show less than a full charge on the small meter. If you plug it back into the charger or firewire it will again begin to charge as shown through the large icon. Unpluging and replugging will eventually get to full charge on the small icon it takes at least three times to get it there. It's really annoying and based on the sheer number of posts about this problem, one must suspect that the battery management software must have changed. Has anyone noticed the same coincidence?

Is this problem related ot the 5G ipod?

  • Apple MacBook Power Management problem

Many times when I notice my battery running down quickly, when I check open programs, I see Pages and Numbers.  These programs were typically used to view an attachment when I was in email and I have forgotten to shut them down.
When they are running in background, they often appear to use a lot of battery.  My battery can drop 20-40% faster when these programs and a few others  are open in background.
I have sent Apple several feedback requests over the past year with no apparent fixes happening.  I would like to see the program hibernate to low use. If necessary, I would like to see them add an option that let's me manage background apps sue of power better.
Rather than get 4 hours on my MacBook Pro with Retina, It often drops to around 2 hours.
If anyone else agrees that this is a problem, please go to Apple Feedback and let them know so we can get better battery life.
I have spent the past several months researching and turning off everything that I can that impacts the battery.  I did find that allowing sync, etc while in sleep mode was also drawing down the battery a lot so i had to turn it off as well.
I have contacted Apple, they have checked my battery, I have done appropriate resets, and I have also reloaded OS and software.  The problem with Pages, Numbers and other programs persists....
Again, if you are also having battery life problems, check this out and send feedback if you are also seeing this problem.
    Thanks,
    TC10

sending apple feedback won't do much, it's not a problem from the OS in general, as all other MBPretina have 6+ hours of battery.
         - I only have verbal from Apple, but they told me the 3-4 hrs that I was getting was normal
" I would like to see the program hibernate to low use.": it already does, it's called App Nap.
Did you check in the activity monitor that the Pages app is indeed the app that drains the battery?
    - I checked the activity monitor, Pages and Numbers show up on a regular basis
"I have contacted Apple, they have checked my battery,": this 2 hour battery isn't normal, they haven't noted anything. didn't they have an explanation for this?
    - they told me to try the resets and try a reinstall which I did. I then took it to one of their Apple certified service depots and they told me the battery is within spec... so it was not their problem ...
    - This problem has been ongoing since I bought the Macbook Pro.  Not sure what to do next when they say the battery "passes their tests"... That is why I have seeing what else could help.

  • Hi, I was working at home with my iPad, everything was going well. It went out battery and after this I am unable to connect to the wifi at home. Before getting out battery no problem, and now it sees the router signal but it is unable to connect to it.

Hi, I was working at home with my iPad, everything was going well. It went out battery and after this I am unable to connect to the wifi at home. Before getting out battery no problem, and now it sees the router signal but it is unable to connect to it.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

    Try this:
Go into Power Manager, choose the Logging profile.
Go into Windows' Power Options, choose a different profile, then switch back to the Logging profile.
See if this clears any contradiction between the two.

  • Yoga 3 Pro Battery Charging Problems

I've combined several discussions into one because there are multiple cross-overs of symptoms.
After reviewing all the posts, I see there are two types of problems discussed:
Battery charging but only to a certain percentage
    Battery intermittently charging
Several people have reported success with their limited battery percentage problem by following the solutions suggested by MarinM and Vladtech.
For the intermittent charging, several people have reported that sometimes the battery charges, sometimes it doesn't. I'd like to dig into these reports. I have a few questions I'd like to ask.
When does it charge, when does it not?
Are there any patterns to this?
Does swapping electrical outlets make a difference?
Does the USB 2.0 charging port appear loose?
Does the cable show any signs of damage?
Does the AC adapter show any signs of damage?
When a second device is plugged into the extra USB port on the AC Adapter, does this impact Y3P charging?
Are there any battery error messages?
    Thank you for your help,

  • 2nd dead iPod Touch 4G in 2 months?  Battery/charging problems!

    Hi everyone,
It seems as of tonight that I will have to return my second iPod Touch 4G in the last two months. In both cases, it was an issue where the device would no longer charge, and became very hot on the top of the back panel when the device was turned on even for a few seconds (while not being plugged in). In the first case, the device seemed to be defective from the time I opened the box, which was confirmed at an Apple Store, but they asked me to ship it to Apple Repair to be checked out. Apple took a very long time to get a replacement to me, but was good about that problem, and I was happy with the replacement for the past month when all of a sudden tonight the new one would not change and became very hot.
Is this an issue that anyone else has seen? I essentially only charged it off of my laptop or a wall charger unit, but it seems like the battery essentially is shorting out. I love this device, but actually need to use a PDA-type device enough that I am questioning whether I should get a replacement or go back to my old Palm TX.
Thanks for any thoughts/feedback on my iPod Touch 4G battery/charging problems.
    Message was edited by: eliotjasper

Most battery complaints complain about loss of charge. The iPod is designed to lose heat through the back as the battery discharges. This is most common when using the device a lot - like playing games. If yours will no loner charge, by all means return it to Apple.
As far as being a PDA goes, it is as good as any smart phone out there. The PDA, as you once knew it, is dead and has been for 5+ years. Take your iPod to an Apple store and insist on a replacement.

  • I'm trying to resolve a battery usage problem

I'm trying to resolve a battery usage problem on my iPhone 5S ...
Have been working with an Apple agent via chat and I'm 99% certain it's a software problem, but I can't isolate wish software ...
So, I'm going to set up my iPhone up as new (when I did this as part of identifying where the problem is, it help its charge for 24 hours) but I have a problem with photos ...
I can see photos on my iPhone (restored from an iCloud backup) up to date, but on my iMac/iPhoto with my iPhone attached i) I can only see photos on my iPhone up to a date in the past (mid October 2014) and ii) iPhoto says all photos have already been imported ...
How can I (can I) get the more recent photos onto my iMac e.g. into a folder and then import them from there into iPhoto?
Also, why is the restore from an iCloud backup taking so long (it's been 14 hours now) when I'm pretty certain everything's now there that should be?

Just to add ... my real problem is that I can see photos on my iPhone, but in iPhoto with the iPhone connected, I can only see photos up to a certain date - weird?!!!
