IOS 5 Contacts issues

After update to IOS 5 of my iPad 2, any application including contacts crashes immediately. E.g. Contacts application, Maps using the "i" button, Mail/Contacts/.... in the Setup, Contacts in the iCloud Setup. Any suggestion, apart waiting for a new rel?

Hi there - it's me again - found a solution which involved a totally clean restore as a new iPhone.
Do NOT USE an existing BACK-UP to restore or YOU'LL END UP WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS.
When asked to sign on to iCloud ----DECLINE ---- then put your stuff back on piece by piece. After all that's done you can switch Contacts on in iCloud and Roberts your Auntie's husband.
Once all done back it up a few times to overwrite old existing back-ups.
Best of luck

After updating my iPhone 4 to iOS 5, I have alot more contacts than I did before. Where did these contacts come from. I currently have my iPhone connected to our works Microsoft Exchange server and when you look in outlook alot of the contacts are not in outlook but are on my iPhone
    Thanks

Could be a DNS problem. The DNS you use at homemight not have the Apple server entered correctly. See:

Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • Email and Contact Issues

My emails are not coming through to my phone unless I manually refresh. I have three accounts setup (Yahoo! and 2 school email accounts). Both school accounts, when I sign on from a computer says something about Outlook: one says Mircosoft outlook and the other says Outlook live.
I contacted my school and got the correct settings for each account. They work because I get the emails as long as I manually refresh. I initially had my phone set to check for mail every hour but after realizing it was not automatically doing this, I set it for every five minutes. That still didn't help.
Out of frustration, I called Verizon who told me they knew nothing about such an issue. They connected me to Samsung who said the same thing. Apparently they were both lying as I have Googled this issue and see that it has been posted since Sept 2010. I just have not noticed a solution (possibly overlooking it).
The solution that they gave me was so a hard reset (didn't work), delete then re-add the accounts (didn't work) or use a workaround. My response to their last suggestion was that I did not feel it was necessary for me to do that when the phone I purchased was supposed to handle email. This has been an issue since I got the phone in Nov 2010 when I switched to VZ. I didn't really notice it until this month because I was having text messaging issues which they didn't fix until this month.
Samsung ended up telling me to send them my phone and they would troubleshoot it but I had to contact VZ about getting a loaner phone as they were going to have it for a week. When I called VZ back, they told me they would just send me a replacement phone and to not send the phone to Samsung because they could have given me a defective phone. The order wasn't placed because their system was down that Friday and the guy was supposed to call me back. He never did so I called VZ a third time.
The tech support rep told me that she was positive that if I got a brand new phone I would still have the same problem because its a known issue that Samsung has yet to fix. Also she had the same phone and also some other people she worked with. She told me to make sure I deleted junk mail, sent stuff, kept the inbox down, and empty the trash and that should help. She was supposed to call me back and see if it helped (which it didn't). She never called back....that was Monday and today is Friday.
Now I'm feeling like they are lying to me because they don't want to replace my device. Then on top of that they told me it would more than likely be a refurbished device instead of a brand new device even though I still have a warranty. Should I push for a new phone or is this really a known issue with Samsung that they have yet to fix? If it is a Samsung issue, what's the workaround until they actually fix it?
By the way, Gmail works almost instantaneously. They told me to forward all of my mail there but that didn't work for my two school accounts. I don't like that anyway.
As for the contact issues, I just noticed two weeks ago that my Facebook and Twitter contacts are unsyncing themselves. I don't have all of my Facebook friends or Twitter followers in my phonebook but those whose phone numbers I have, are linked to their Facebook and or Twitter accounts but I notice that both of these accounts unlink themselves. I have no idea why this happens. I keep having to go back into my phonebook and relink about 30 people to their Facebook and or Twitter profiles. Any idea why?

In your email app, have you tried going into each account, pressing the menu button, account settings, and setting email check frequency to the desired time?
If that's not the issue, then perhaps pressing the menu button at the home screen, going into settings, accounts and sync, and clicking the background data option is the issue.
The reason why Gmail works well is that instead of polling (which is what the email app uses, where it queries the account to see if there's anything new), it pushes your email through meaning that it's virtually instantaneous.
With regards to the Twitter and Facebook issue, try going into the accounts and sync area that I mentioned before.  There, you will be able to set the SNS sync interval and sync the contacts, birthdays, and whatever else it allows.  You'll probably have to click on each of those accounts to check various options before it will autosync.
My frequency is set to every 5 mins. That hasn't worked.
The background data sync option is clicked already.
The Twitter and Facebook SNS syncing is set. I have noticed though that sometimes when I go in there, the sync arrow is red by Twitter and Facebook. I uncheck the box and recheck it and then it turns green again. What I don't know is why it randomly turns red in the first place. I'm assuming this is the reason the Facebook and Twitter stuff unsyncs itself.

With all the post about Wifi issue, could it be hardware and not software.  Anyone know how to diagnosis the difference.

    Hi Lady Engineer,
If you are having an issue with Wi-Fi on your iPhone, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • The default account option in iOS for contacts is missing; while I have multiple account options for mail and contacts are turned on for iCloud and other accounts.

The default account option in iOS for contacts is missing; while I have multiple account options for mail and contacts are turned on for iCloud and other accounts.  I previously was able to select between my Microsoft Exchange Contacts (work account) and iCloud (personal), but both those options are now gone.  I tried turning contacts for both off and on and rebooting, but it didn't help.  Any ideas?

Just a guess but if the exchange account is from your employer, your employer may have installed a security profile to your device preventing you from adding or editing contacts in the exchange account by removing the Default Account setting.  You would need to check with your employer's IT department to confirm this.  You could also test this by adding a Gmail account and turning on contacts syncing with Gmail to see if the setting reappears.

There is no indication that the phone is roaming. One is on 3G, the other is on the slower EDGE data connection. They are both connected to Verizon for voice and data.

  • IOS 5 Update Issues (contact numbers, m4r files, photo library)

Right after updating my iPhone 4 to IOS 5, I encountered the following minor issues:
    1. Most of my contacts numbers are displayed as numbers only without names when they call or message me. I found out that the country code is added to their numbers (wasn't the case before the update). So, a number, let's say, 555-5555, must be updated in the contact list to read (+555) 555-5555. When I add the country code however, I still receive a call or message without the name, because it comes out without the country code, i.e. 555-5555! Confusing indeed.
    2. All of my m4r files, mainly ringtones, have disappeared from my iPhone, though the sync process via iTunes shows they were properly transferred to iPhone. When I go to Sounds setting, or playlist, there is none. (Wasn't the case before the update. My ringtones were part of the Sounds setting)
    3. I have double photo albumes for the same photos in my iPhone photo library. I only select one folder in my computer to sync with iPhone, so the photos in this folder are now copied to Camera Roll, and another folder called Mobile. (Wasn't the case before the update. Photos were placed in Camera Roll only)
Other than that, all working fine so far.

    Note on point 1:
This is the issue with contact numbers as I further found out:
The problem basically with messages and calls.
Adding a country code to a contact number will show contact name in messages but not in calls coming therefrom.
Removing the country code from the contact number, will show only phone number in calls but not in messages where I only get the number without the name!
To overcome this problem, I have to register the same number for each contact twice, one with a country code and the other without! Duplicating numbers for each contact obviously is not the right solution.

  • IOS contacts issue

After i upgrade my iphone from 4.3.3 to 5.0, its very difficult to  view contacts. If I save a contact including country code, the names will not appear in incoming calls but name appear in message and vs.
So this is like old Nokia phones. I wonderwhether this is a bug or Apple just changed this whole thing. Its very difficult when this happens. I have to save every contact with country code and without. This is a temp solution i found. I think iOS 4.3.5 contacts works same as this. I kindly request Apple to fix this.

Is this forum only for the US? Maybe I'm intruding here by posting this?
Not only the Verizon version unfortunately. We have the same problem here in some parts of the Middle East. I have heard reports from Kuwait and Bahrain, and I'm located in Oman and the problem exists here as well. And no solution except downgrading the phone back to iOS 4.3.5.

  • Address Book Server and iOS Default Account Issue

I have a really strange issue with a Lion Server. 10.7.5
There are several user accounts on the machine some are local, some are OD accounts. For the most part they work just fine.
Mail and Calendar accounts seem to be ok and indeed when you set up the Address book account this also work and syncs in both directions.
Here is the odd issue: For certain accounts, iOS devices do not seem to register them to be available to set as default. The device can use them properly, they do sync fine, if you hit 'import SIM contacts' they will show up as options to choose as the destination account, but if you have iCloud and another contact account set up, they do not show up as options to be chosen as the default contacts account. If they are the only contact accounts, then the 'Set Default Account' option does not even appear in the Mail, Contacts, Calendars settings under Contacts. It appears fine under Calendars and Mail.
When I installed more than one of the 'faulty' accounts on a single iOS device, then deactivated all but one, the Default Account option reappeared (there was also an iCloud account present), but it soon disappears on its own.
    Has anyone seen this before?
    I'm at a bit of a loss.

You should see a "CardDAV" option in the AccountType popup in AddressBook.app. That is what you need to select to use AddressBook Server on OS X 10.6.

  • IOS 5 Contacts Call Bug

I am using my iPhone 4 with IOS 5 in Mozambique. All my contacts are stored using each of my friend's/client's country code (I have got people from the US, Brazil, Italy...). Anyone who calls me and is in Mozambqiue (therefore using country code +258) and that I have his number within my contact list, his name does not appear on the screen when he is calling me.
If that same person sends me a SMS, his name appears on the message screen. No problem. The bug exists when he tries to call me.
If a person within my contacts list calls me or sends me sms from abroad (a country other than Mozambique) than his name will appear both on the call information and on the sms screen. So, it seems ok when people are calling from abroad.
I did not have this bug with IOS 4 and I was using it on the same network and on the same iPhone as I am using now the IOS 5.
Is Apple working on fixing this error? I do not have this issue with my Blackberry.
Other than this error to be very annoying, I cannot understand how Apple did not detect it immediately when performing tests on IOS 5...
Hope to hear from you soon.

FYI, Apple doesn't read these posts.  You can give them your feedback & suggestions here:

  • No iOS iCloud Contact Sync

    I'm using my iPhone6 with iOS 8.1.1.
iCloud Contact synchornizing active on iPhone and iMac (10.10.1)
If i created a new contact, that isn't synced to iCloud.com or to my iMac..
    what's the matter?

    Hi chrisbjo,
Happy Holidays!  The resource below will provide some steps to try to resolve the syncing issue you are having with your contacts.
Get help using iCloud Contacts - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS3998
    OS X Lion or later
You can use these steps with Contacts on OS X Mountain Lion or later or Address Book on OS X Lion. After each step, check to see if the issue still exists.
Make sure iCloud Contacts is on
Choose Apple () > System Preferences, click iCloud, and select Contacts.
See which version of OS X you're using
Make sure that you're using OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later. Learn how to see which version of OS X you're using.
    Check your Internet connection
Try to go to www.apple.com. If you can't connect to the Internet, your iCloud contacts won't update in Contacts or Address Book. Get help with your Internet connection.
Open a secure website to see if you can access ports 80 and 443. Safari requires access to port 443 to push and fetch updates to and from the iCloud Contacts servers.
    Check your account details
Choose Apple () > System Preferences, and click iCloud. Make sure that you're signed in to the same iCloud account that you're using on your other supported devices.
    Refresh Contacts or Address Book
If recent changes don't appear in Contacts or Address Book, try to refresh by quitting and reopening the app.
    Check your settings
Make sure that the contacts are syncing through iCloud and not through a third-party, such as Google or Yahoo. iCloud won't sync contacts that are associated with a different service.
Open Contacts (or Address Book on OS X Lion).
Click All [iCloud Account Name] in the left sidebar.
Search for the contact that wasn't syncing properly.
If the contact isn't visible, then the contact exists in a third-party account, not iCloud.
You can import the contact from a third-party account into iCloud.
If recent changes to contacts on OS X don't appear on your other devices and you're syncing contacts with multiple accounts on your device (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo), make sure that iCloud is your default account for Contacts:
Open Contacts (or Address Book on OS X Lion).
Choose Contacts > Preferences (or Address Book > Preferences on OS X Lion).
On the General tab, make sure that your iCloud account is the default.
After setting up iCloud Contacts, you might need to quit and reopen Contacts or Address Book on your Mac. Then make sure that you set up your account correctly in Contacts or Address Book:
Open Contacts (or Address Book on OS X Lion).
Choose Contacts > Preferences (or Address Book > Preferences on OS X Lion).
    Click Accounts.
Make sure that your iCloud account has the correct name in the Apple ID field.
Turn iCloud Contacts off and back on
Quit Contacts (or Address Book on OS X Lion).
Choose Apple () > System Preferences and click iCloud.
    Deselect Contacts.
    Click Keep Contacts.
Close System Preferences and wait about a minute.
Open System Preferences and choose iCloud.
    Select Contacts.
    Open Contacts (or Address Book).
    Restart your computer
Restart your computer and check the issue.
    iCloud.com
If you have issues with web-based iCloud contacts at icloud.com/contacts, check your browser.
Go to iCloud Help and search for information about your issue.
If you don't see updates from other devices or Contacts doesn't appear as expected, switch to another app. To switch, click iCloud in the upper-left corner of the browser window, then select the app, such as Calendar, you wish to use.
    Go back to Contacts.
If you still see the issue, sign out of iCloud:
Click your name in the upper-right corner.
    Choose Sign Out.
    Sign back in.
I hope this information helps ....

  • IOS 5 Update issues: albums misplaced

    Hi,
When I updated my Ipod 4th gen 64 gig to IOS 5, some of the albums on the Ipod were misplaced.  I can find them when I go under album view, but not when under artist view. (ie: The Beatles Past Master's Vol 2 will not come up under Artist view).
I tried taking the songs off the Ipod and resynching them back on, and it still doesn't work. I tried to change the artist name, when highlighted with all of the other songs from the artist.  And Ive also tried making the albums the same title, since this is only effecting albums that are a second or third disc (ie: I took out the Disc 1 and Disc 2 from the Past Master's albums, thus making them the same title.)
So Im wondering if there is another way to do this.
And I have also been having a ton of lagging switching between apps, trying to lock the screen, and trying to go to the home screen.  Its seems like its getting worse the past few weeks.  I have 34 gig free, so space is not an issue, which is a problem I have heard about with my friend's Ipod's, who have less than 1 gig free.
    Thanks for your time!

    Note on point 1:
This is the issue with contact numbers as I further found out:
The problem basically with messages and calls.
Adding a country code to a contact number will show contact name in messages but not in calls coming therefrom.
