Ios 5 firmware update, adding Extra Calendar!

I already updated my Ipod touch 4G to ios 5 but I selected United States as my country instead of Iran (in the introduction), and now I couln't have any access to the Persian Calendar which is available for those who selected Iran as their country (in the introduction of ios 5). What should I do? Unfortunately Apple doesn't allow us to select Iran as our country from any menu and choices of its new ios!? when I restore the firmware to view the introduction it doesn't show up!

United States! That was mandatory to select USA, because I couldn't have any access to too many applications via other countries Apple id account!
for the second question, No, I didn't, because i could have missed the apps which had been synced with my iPod previously!! R U sure that by clicking "New iPod" settings, the introduction would be appear again?

IOS 5 Firmware update Corrupted during download

Everytime I try to update my iPhone 4 to iOS 5 I this get an error message.
"The software for the iPhone "iphone" was corrupted during download.
Disconnect and reconnect, then try again. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later."

I have been having the same problem - just very inconsistenly - two iPhones, one attached to Mac and the other to Windows updated just fine yesterday - today the iPad connected to the same Mac keeps saying corrupted - it is sayingonly 3 minutes to download - compared to about 10 or 12 minutes for the iPhones yesterday.
I restarted iTunes - and the download is now showing more like 10 or 12 minutes total. and then it worked. or at least it looked like it was going to - got the full 700MB or so download and THEN said it was corrupted.
this also happened when iOS 5 first came out - I just kept trying - might have rebooted my cable modem - but not really sure that anythign I did or did not do had any impact on it.
You would think that if the issue was on Apple's end that they would have some wya to detect multiple failed attempts to download and look into any network issues on their end that might be affecting this.
Download of iPod update on another mac on the same netwokr is saying 30 minutes to download - which seems odd since the file sisze is the same - but for some reason that download is only running at about 2Mb/sec comared to 10Mb/sec for the iPhone and iPad downloads on this Mac.

IOS OTA Firmware Update Challenges

Hello all,
As the title states, I'm having a challenge that I've hit a roadblock with.
I work in a large organization that has about 200-300 Apple devices. Currently (for legal reasons) iTunes is not allowed on any computer at our organization. We are looking to allow users to connect to one of our WiFi Connections in order to perform updates OTA, however, it has been made very clear that port 80 and 8088 are not going to be opened. The way our WiFi works is that it is open in the sense that you can connect to it without credentials, however, only sites that have been whitelisted can be accessed, unless you request credentials, and then you will have access to the internet. We would like to make it available to simply connect and update.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm sure I can't be the first person to have this question.

People can update from any WiFi network, however, we would like a solution that allows employees to download these updates when in the office. I know that most of the time, people are going to want the latest version of iOS, however, it is a little contradicting to tell people they are required to update their device, and then not give them a means to do it.
Maybe I wasn't clear on the internet. When connected to our network, we have full internet connection, except for those sites which have been blocked by the proxy server. However, the WiFi connections only offer internet access for those who have credentials. There are some exceptions to this. We allow those connected to the WiFi access to a few websites (company website, etc.). Also, we use it as a staging ground for establishing a VPN connection using Junos Pulse.
Hopefully that explains it a little better.

Why is the calendar adding extra alerts?

I just got my first Iphone and the calendar is adding extra alerts. I'm using a Google calendar which I have used for years with WebOS, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone. This only started happening when I switched to the Iphone, so I'm certain that it's the Iphone causing it.
If I create an event on the Iphone, it will add the extra alert straight after. I literally just created an event with one alert at the time of the event. Straight after creating it I checked the event details and there is a second alert 1 hour before.
If I create an event on www.google.com/calendar, it will add the extra alert after the Iphone has synchronised the calendar. Before that synchronisation the event alerts are unchanged.
Most of the time it's adding a second alert 1 hour before the event time, although I have one instance where it also added a third alert 50.9 minutes before the event time.

I don't find it hard to use at all.

it sounds like you were using iCloud. Go under Settings > iCloud and make sure the switch for Notes is ON (green side showing). If it's already on, turn it off, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on. Your notes should sync up.

You can try putting the iPhone into DFU mode and see if that will let you restore and remove the jailbreak:

Some jailbreaks cannot be removed and in some cases will permanently disable your iPhone. If that happens to you, then you will have to buy a new iPhone; Apple will provide no support, warranty or out-of-warranty, for a jailbroken iPhone.

Iphone 5s calendar not accept entries after ios 7.1 update

So, sometimes you discover a "fix" totally by accident. I tried the following and it's worked for me 100% of the time so far. Any entries I make using this have appearded on my iPhone and on any device where I view my calendar. Hope this helps others:
Open your calendar and then view it in the "month view";
Tap the hybrid view icon which is at the top to the left of the search icon at the top right of the screen; you'l see a list of the days activities at the the bottom of the screen.
Now, tap the "+" icon at the top to the right of the search icon. This will allow you to type in the event, time, date, etc that you want to enter.
Click "done" at the top right when finished. Now, you should see the event that you just entered at the bottom of the screen under the days activities. That should "stick" even if you close the calendar, or whatever. When I checked, it also showed up as it should on other devices. You can edit events, delete them, etc--it's worked for me.
I'm not sure why this worked--or what it's the only way to be able to enter an event since the move to iOS 7.1--but it's working for me--so why ask why??

Have you logged into icloud on the iphone? Have you turned on Calendar in settings>icloud? Are you able to connect the iphone with other services on icloud, like contacts?

IOS IPS Sig Updates

It seems like whenever there is an IDS sensor/appliance update for defending against the latest virus/worm but there is no update for IOS IPS signatures.
Case in point - on June 3 there was an IDS update for W32/Bobax.worm.o S174. The IOS IPS zip file as of today is S169 from May 25, What gives?
Also, why isn't their any release notes for the IOS IPS zip files to document what was added? That way we can read it to judge if we need to download the zip file or not.

There are a couple of extra steps in producing the IOS IPS signature update. The IOS IPS solution is a subset of the full appliance solution and is further constrained by memory limitations inherent in the routers that it runs in. Because of this, once the signature development team puts together an appliance update, that update has to be reviewed to make sure that the appliance signatures won't crash the IOS implementation. Any issues found during the review have to be addressed before the IOS update can be posted. This extra review step is the cause for the delay.
Regarding the release notes. The signatures usable by the IOS solution are a subset of the appliance update. You can look at the appliance update release notes to see what *might* be available. I say might because of the subset issues....

whom. You end up having two routers to setup for
configuration of security. Simplicity is
important, since I want to be able to help set it up
for the friend, and forget it.
?? That doesn't make any sense - I think you're missing something fundemental here. The extra ethernet ports are on the LAN side of the secure connection. The firewall in the router isolates the internal, LAN network (wireless + ethernet) from the external WAN (aka the big bad internet). Whether or not you have a switch attached to one of the LAN ports makes no difference, security-wise - you are in control of the devices connected to the LAN side of the router. WEP/WPA/WPA2 security controls who is able to connect to the wireless LAN.
From a security standpoint, there is ABSOLUTELY no difference between buying a router with eight lan ports and buying a router with four lan ports plus plugging in a five-port switch to one of the lan ports. It's exactly the same thing.
What you don't control is the WAN side of things - the internet itself. You certainly wouldn't want to connect the switch to the WAN port on the router, at least not unless you wanted to run, say, a web server that is exposed to the internet itself. This wouldn't be a good idea in any case - there are better ways to set this up as well (either by setting up a DMZ, or by setting up port forwards)
There is absolutely no reason why you would want or need two routers for this setup - this is only an issue for extremely large networks.
The WRT54G has 1 WAN port and four LAN ports. You can have four hardwired devices (computers, printers, switches, etc) on these LAN ports - they are protected from the internet by the firewall in the router. You can also have any number of wireless devices on this same router; these, as well, are on the LAN side of the router, and are therefore protected.
Adding a switch to the LAN side of the router has absolutely no impact on security. No additional routers would be required.
