i stopped the progress twice now after more than 12 hours.
does anyone know what to do or had the same problem and found a solution?
Greg

Found a post of Pilates-Contrology worked out fine for me:
Did you try this? Found this in several places and it works for me
1. Quit iTunes.
2. Start an elevated command prompt (Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right Click "Command Prompt" -> "Run as Administrator")
3. Once in the command prompt, type "netsh winsock reset" and hit ENTER.
4. Reboot your machine.
5. Restart iTunes.

Basically, I plug in my phone and on iTunes, the sync starts up, but the backup takes forever. I've tried everything on the forums, including deleting old backups (Now I have none and it won't backup, and I can't restore my phone now because I'm afraid I'll lose everything). PLEASE HELP!!!! I've tried everything but nothing works and it's getting really frustrating.

Wish I could help you, but I have the exact same issue. Iphone 4 as well.

  • Downloading and installing apps takes forever? New iphone 5s

I've been an android user since the first droids but I decided to give iphone a shot with the 5s, just picked it up yesterday.
Aside from getting used to a TINY screen, doing okay with it but I've noticed downloading and installing apps takes a LONG time on this phone compared to my previous androids (and I've had a lot, I switch phones every few months).
On android I touch install and for most apps (take pandora for instance), it's download and installed in LITERALLY like 5-6 seconds.
On this iPhone 5s, same wifi network, same location, same carrier (Verizon) it takes 1-2 minutes...A LOT LONGER than on android.
Is this normal? Why does it take so long? Are iphone apps huge in size compared to android versions? Can't figure out why its so different
    Thanks!

  • IPod Touch backup takes forever; cannot install OS 4

I'm trying to update my iPod Touch to OS 4 however, the backup which takes place before the update isn't completing. I have left the backup running for over 3 hours and still nothing. Is there any way I can bypass or speed up the backup?

Okay. Sorry. Seriously warning you off, but if you insist.... people here have reported very (VERY) long times. I don't know what it does. It seems to 1) back up everything, 2) do a factory reset, 3) install the new stuff, and 4) restore your backed up data (calendar, apps, etc.)
It was fairly short for my son's 3gen iPod. Took hours -- 4? 5? Longer? I don't recall. I just let it run.

  • Time machine backup takes forever after full restore

My HD went haywire yesterday but luckily I was able to restore everything from my backup (and the Mac even got a speedier, yay).
But for some reason I can take new backups. Time machine works forever, seemingly want to replace most files on the backup (250 GB, 500000+ files) and have now for more than 12 hours stood at “44 MB backed up”. The problem repeats itself when I stop and retry the back up procedure.
I have tried to create a new back up on the same Time Machine drive but I am unable to rename the old “backup.backudb” folder, so thats not a solution.
    ANy ideas?

After a restore Time Machine will back up everything again.  Because of that, if possible the initial backup should be done over Ethernet, not Wi-Fi.  See item D3 on this post.

  • Trying to update to 4.2 version w/an Iphone 3G, backup takes forever

So I have read many posts about updating my Iphone 3G from 3.1.1 version to 4.2 version. As all posts say, you must do a back up. My phone was just synced earlier and I confirmed it is backedup on my computer. Is there anyway to bypass the back up. One post said just click the "x", however I don't have a "x", there is just a pop up window that says "Backing up my phone".
    Please help.

    I got it now!
It's QQ, the old Tancent QQ app left some mysterious content in the Iphone and the the phone actually doing something while backing up and gets really hot.
I removed the old QQ and the backup suddenly gets lightning fast and completed in 2 minutes. It was at least half and hour and sometimes 2 hours.
But QQ just released a new version. I've just install it and hope this version won't do the make the same stupid mistake again.
QQ, please brush up your technology!

  • Why my computer backup takes forever?

It use to take less than an hour to back up my 27 Go, on the last backup everything went well except that time machine informe me that it had to erase the oldest backup since my unit was full. Now yesterday I started up another backup and after 5 hours there was only 7 Go backed up, I stopped it and then took upon myself to free more space on the unit before starting a new back up session. After more than 12 hours now, the backup is even slower 3.77 Go only???
Have anything like this happen to you before? What should I be looking for to correct this problem?

Have you applied the 10.7.5 Supplemental Update http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1599? That fixes a Time Machine/Spotlight slowdown issue.

  • I have an 16 g ipod touch that doesnt want to update n backup takes forever

I have a 16 g ipod touch that doesnt want to update to the lates firmware, i really want some help please . The back up takes for ever n i dont even think it reallly even backs up my ipod. My itunes is up to date and everything i dont know what to do. please help

Try moving the existing backup file to a new location so iTunes has to create an entire new file.  That file is located here.  You may have to have show hidden file turned on. It location is given here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
However, at the current time I get this error message:
    We're sorry.

  • Backup takes forever to complete / CAN'T UPGRADE FIRMWARE AS RESULT

I have not been able to complete a single backup of my i Pad since it takes for ever to complete, as in 10 hours passes and still not done. It never finishes.
Thus, i am unable to perform a firmware update since it tries to backup before applying the update.
    Anyone experiences this issue?

I completely agree, normal syncing allows you to cancel backup and continue to sync, but software upgrade to 4.2 does not allow you to cancel the backup. Why do we need backup anyway? Isn't all your data stored in Itunes? and why does it take 9 hours to back up 15 gigs of data? is it all being sent to California? This seems to be a serious flaw in the Ipad system. I think my only option is to empty the ipad, then update it and refill it again, but seriously why is this necessary?

  • ITunes cannot connect to Internet and iPad backup takes Forever

Hi, I have a workstation, high end Windows 7, PC, everything works perfect except the iTunes.. here's my story:
iTunes cannot connect to internet, nor can iTunes Store. I tried "Run Diagnostics" from Help menu, it showed "internet connection verified" green light BUT "Secure link to iTunes Store Failed" Red Light.
Then I thought, lets check other Apple App, Safari.. which couldn't load google for a long time and didn't even show any error, anyway, so I quit and uninstalled it.
I connected iPad for backup, it started all fine. At "Step 2 of 7" backing up, the loading/copying bar came half way up and stayed there for more than 20 hours. So, I quit that too. (Maybe, this is a different problem or connected, im not sure.)
I also checked the setting in Norton Firewall and made sure iTunes was allowed full access. Internet is working perfect in all the other applications, even "Apple Software Update" is working fine, checking for updates and everything. I have latest version of iTunes by the way.
THEN, I uninstalled everything Apple, left no trace of Apple in Program Files, and reinstalled iTunes. STILL SAME PROBLEM!!! Can anybody help? What could've happened, 'coz it used to work just fine before.
    Thanks Guys!

    start itunes.
    update podcasts - no response.
click on store - no response.
use diagnostics for connectivity - no response.
sometimes, when i stop itunes from trying to connect, i will get an error code 11222

  • ICloud backup takes forever and failed systematically on iPad 2 OS 5

    Hello
iCloud backup hasn't work on my iPad 2 OS 5 since early January. It doesn't seem to try to backup automatically, mormif it does it probably fails, and when I launch the backup manually it starts correctly and estimates backup time will be 3 hours. But even if my iPad is connected to WiFi, locked and plugged in during 8 hours or more, the backup still seems to be in progress but when the bar is almost full like if it was about to end the backup it suddenly stops and I got the message Backup Failed..it's very frustrating..
I've setup correctly my iPad and iTunes to backup with iCloud, the estimated storage volume is 3 GB, is it the reason why it fails?
Back up works on my iPhone 4 but if I can't back up and sync with iPad it's not cool...
    Thanks for your help!
    Fred

    Hi,
I had the exact same problem. Ipad2, IOS5, 15GB on iCloud, very slow backup which fails after a long time, last backup december 1st. The same with manual backup starts.
What I did: made the backup content as small as possible. I had several GBs of books and magazine in FileApp, iBooks and apps like these. I chose not to be backed up these. The backup size was much more smaller than the remaining space on my iCloud account. I didn't sart the backup manually, instead I waited for the automatic backup. Checked after 3 hours and the backup was finally made succesfully.
One more thing, it's important for automatic backup to start to load the battery, lock the screen (and be on wifi).
I suspect that this issue is connected to too big backup size BEFORE buying the 10+ GBs. The iCloud account or the iPad itself doesn't recognize all the space you have in iCloud if you - at some point in the past - tried to upload too much data.

  • Reboot after IOS 4.1 now takes forever

Ever since updating my iPhone 4 on Wednesday, my phone now takes 2-3 min. to reboot after turning it off. Anyone else seeing this happening with theirs? I'm going to take mine to my AT&T store today to see if they know why this is happening and why I haven't been able to access the data network since the update either.

Yup. This is a known issue but it's not known to that many since most of the customers get all their content straight from iTunes. There's only ONE way to get the non-iTunes HD MP4s to play. When you are staring at the blank screen, waiting for the video to buffer (which for the majority of the time, will never happen), press Down on the controller to pull up the timeline with chapter marks. Now, press Forward to skip chapters. With the original 4.1 update, you can skip all the way to the end of the last chapter, give it a few seconds, and then skip all the way back to the beginning of the first chapter (same chapter timeline, but you press Back until it goes to the start of the first chapter). With the recent 4.1.1 update, it's a little trickier. When you skip all the way to the end of the last chapter, if you don't immediately skip back, it will take you back to your videos list because it registers as you having finished watching the video. Now, keep in mind all of this takes places on the timeline with the CHAPTER MARKS.
Second thing, be sure you have chapter marks set on the MP4 file or else the chapter skip workaround will not work (since there's no chapters). You can most probably use any metadata utility you wish to set the chapter marks but I personally am using iSubtitler. I also set the chapter marks for every 10 minutes.
I don't know exactly what has changed since the original 4.0 firmware on the ATV but it has messed up the buffering for large HD non-iTunes purchased videos.

  • Updating iPhone 3G to iOS 4.0.2 takes forever

The progress bar hasn't progressed for an hour and a half by now. It is blue for half an inch and saying 'Updating iPhone Software...'. The iPhone itself shows the Apple logo and an empty progress bar. No changes here either.
    What to do?

nigel i'm sorry but there aren't other ways to solve this problem...
at least until Apple decide to build an upgrade to iOS 4.0.2 that is specific to iPhone 3G.
Ps. the slowness is caused by iOS 4 uses more ram than iOS 3, and iPhone 3G doesn't have enough ram to support this new Operative System...
i wish to helped you and i'm sorry for not perfect english

  • TimeMachine Backup (of localhost) takes forever

I have a problem with TimeMachine on my 10.6.2 Server I don't understand. Basically, the backup takes forever, it's currently at "Stopping Backup..." since almost an hour.
I have a Nehalem Mac Pro with a 640 GB "main" disk and two 1TB disks as mirrored RAID. The system is installed on the main disk, so this is my startup disk, only 150GB is used, the rest is free space.
On the RAID I store daily backups (good old Linux rsync style with a loooot of hardlinks) from different network machines which can be accessed through SMB. The server has only an Apache and MySQL running, no Mail or Proxy or other fancy stuff.
TimeMachine is configured to *ignore the RAID disks* and only backup the main disk, and the backups went smoothly before I added the RAID. Now whenever TM starts, I see a process "sharePoints_backup" in Activity Monitor, eating up to 4 GB of RAM! And, as mentioned, backups take forever. On the Backup disk, there are only backups of the startup disk, so indeed it does not backup the RAID disks.
I suspect that the server calculates the backup for the RAID also, which it shouldn't to my understanding. How can I prevent this? Or is it something else?

This other thread solved this problem:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11198756
Seems to be a bug in ServerBackup, it does not respect exclusion paths set by TimeMachine.

  • Web page downloads take forever since 3.6.12 was installed on my W7Pro x64 why ?

The older version of Firefox prior to 3.6.12 was never a problem ... all web pages downloaded fairly quickly but now since 3.6.12 was installed they take forever to load ... I can go and make a cup of coffee just about whilst firefox thinks about loading its shit !
Does anyone else have this problem and if so have you got a solution to this catastrophy ?...coz its pissing me off !

I don't see any software that would be causing your slowdowns.
The only thing I noticed as that you are both running OS X Mavericks and Adobe Creative Suite with only 4 GBs of RAM.
OS X 10.9 Mavericks, by itself, needs a working minimum of 3-4 GBs of RAM to work quickly, smoothly and efficiently.
This doesn't leave enough RAM for any other third party applications to run. Especially if you are running multiple applications.
Your iMac year and model can take a total of 16 GBs of RAM max.
I advise that you purchase and install another 8 GBs of RAM for a total of 12 GBs of RAM.
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
The only other thing I can offer is that you need to update all of your third party software to OS X Mavericks compatible versions by either using The Mac App Store for updates or go to the third party software developers' websites and look for updates.
Update all of your Internet web browser plugins, too!
It looks as if you have two identical versions of Adobe Flash Player installed. You need to remove/uninstall one of these.
Also, need to look for third party driver updates for any third party devices that maybe connected to your Mac.
    Good Luck!
