IOS 5. iPhone 4. "Portrait orientation unlocked" not functioning.

The landscape function on my iPhone4 doesn't seem to work no matter how much I turn or shake the phone around. I have unlocked the portrait orientation numerous times by clicking on the home button twice and swiping to the left but that doesn't seem to work either. Please help!Thanks!

Thank you but I've already tried that as well. That doesn't help either! Can you suggest something else? I read in one of the discussions that I need to reset to factory settings. Will that help? The landscape mode used to work at times earlier (not always) but since I've updated to the iOS5 it's completely stopped working.

I'm surprised that the restore does not fix it, which leads me to think that one of two things is going on:
One, your acceleromter has malfunctioned. The only fix for this that I know of is to take it to a Genius Bar at an Apple Store.
Two, you might not be holding the iPod Touch properly to make orientation work. You have to hold it vertically when you turn it if you want the orientation to change. The iPod should not be parallel to the ground, but perpendicular.
Three, you may misunderstand how to manage the orientation function. When you bring up the running apps tray at the bottom, do you see the lock in the middle of the circular arrow? If you do, the orientation is still locked. tap it to make the lock disappear, and then open an app and see if it changes orientation

You can try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
- Reset. Nothing will belost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restoring from backup
- Restoring to factory defaults/new iPod.

I have a new iphone 5s 64gb , suddenly the portrait orientation not working probably.
I keep it unlock but if I open the camera or safari, the screen will be landscape.
And when I'm typing anywhere without shaking the phone, I recieve " undo typing" message.
Please help me ,,,
I checked the software it is 7.1.1
I reset all settings.

It may help to gently clean the sensor. Additionally, the following article provides steps that can help resolve issues with Touch ID.
Resolving issues with Touch ID
Verify that you are using the latest version of iOS.
Ensure that your fingers and the Home button are clean and dry.*
Note: Cover the Home button completely. Don't tap too quickly, don't press down hard, and don't move your finger while Touch ID is scanning. Make sure that your finger touches the metal ring around the Home button.
If you are using a protective case or screen protector, it must leave the Home button and the surrounding ring completely unobscured. If it doesn't, remove the case or screen protector and try again.
Tap Settings > General > Touch ID & Passcode > Touch ID and verify that:
iPhone Unlock or iTunes & App Store is enabled.
One or more fingerprints have been enrolled.
If one finger isn't working, tap Edit in Settings > General > Touch ID & Passcode > Touch ID > Edit to delete and then reenroll the finger.
If that finger still isn't working, try enrolling a different finger.
If you are unable to enroll any of your fingers, take your iPhone 5s to an Apple Retail Store, Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact AppleCare for further assistance.

Removing IOS 5 and reverting to ios 4 (iphone 4) - as it will not allow me to download apps or stream music on radio apps.

i updated to ios 5 today on my iphone 4 much to my dismay it cant stream radio apps i paid for anymore because it somehow HOGS the internet, but yet when i tried to play one of the multiplayer adventure games it is fine. i dont know if its an INDIVIDUAL app issue whereby i have to enable or disable something or something within the settings to do with the itnernet i need to change?
i cant even download apps on my iphone either it gives an error reading something along the lines of my internet; i connect at home with wifi and successfully stream music radio apps through my home speaker system; or i did do so before updating to this TRASH!. so i'm sure you can understand why i now ask to remove ios5 otherwise there is no point in me keeping the iphone, i have one year left on my mobile contract with orange to pay for.
i need to perform a downgrade, i have ONE back up from july which would be the ios4 version if i restore it using this back up file in itunes, would it definately remove the ios 5 and put the ios4 backon my iphone ?

You can NOT downgrade iOS.
That said, millions people have updated to iOS 5 without experiencing the problems you report. Why don't you try some basic troubleshooting before you resort to drastic measures.
Restoring from your backup will NOT revert the phone to iOS 4.
First, try to reset all settings. This will re-set the network settings and clear any personalization (wallpaper, custom assigned ringtones, etc.) but you will not lose any data.
Then, try a simple re-set. If that doesn't work, try restoring from your last backup. If that doesn't work, Erase all content and settings and set it up as a new device. It's possible one or more of the apps you are trying to use

HT1430 turn off iphone when its touchscreen is not functional

I have iphone 3gs. it is on lastest iOS. It's tocuhscreen has stopped working.Apple genius advised me to get a new handset. I 'll get it soon. But in meantime, i want to turn my phone off. It has alarm set and without touchscreen, i am unable to turn it off. Please advise how i can disable alarm or switch off phone ( with touch screen not working at all)

IOS 8.2 and InDesign / layered PDF not functioning properly

Over the last week we deployed new iPads which came loaded with iOS 8.2. We are noticing that layered pdfs that formerly worked fine are suddenly experiencing buttons and text and even full pages and components completely disappearing when the document is used on the ipad. Wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this? We are following through with this in some other avenues, but am open to any advice.

What you're experiencing is a limitation in the PDF readers on all mobile devices. Many of them do not support all the interactive features like buttons and video.
Here is an article I wrote a few years ago, but it's still mostly true:

You'll need to buy a PDF reader like PDF Expert (Readdle, $US 9.99) to view some of those features.

To get rid of that annoying portrait orientation lock symbol of the padlock with the circle around!
Double click the home button
Your home screen apps fade and there will be four icons along the bottom of the screen.
scroll left until you see the Portrait Orientation Lock symbol.
Touch it
Portrait orientation Unlocked!

HT4623 how do i downgrade to ios 5, iphone 4

after ungrading to ios 6 on iphone 4, my bluetooth does not function correctly, it can not find any other bluetooth for example my ipad. no other devices can find my bluetooth. is there anyway around that? thanks

Unfortunately you cannot downgrade iOS versions. Have you tried restarting your phone then searching for bluetooth devices again?
Hold both the SLEEP button for about 5 seconds until a red SWIPE TO SHUT DOWN comes up. Go ahead and do so. After it powers off, wait about 5 seconds then hold the SLEEP button again to power on the phone.
You can also try resetting your network settings.
To do so click SETTINGS/GENERAL/RESET then select RESET NETWORK SETTINGS.
If this doesn't help I would recommend you make an appointment with a Genius at your local Apple store.

First try one of these methodes:
Try to restart your iPhone
Hold the power button and slide to turn off, then turn it on
if you still have the same problem then try the second methode:
Reset Settings of your device:
Settings>> General>> Reset >> Reset All Settings
Make sure you reset only your settings and NOT any other Contents
if you still have the same problem, so it seems to be a hardware issue, take it to the nearest Apple Store.

I was getting this even on iOS 4.0, but under this OS, I can restart the phone, and in some cases, this problem goes away.
However, under iOS 5, it simply wouldn't go to LANDSCAPE. Photos is not a worry, since I can just rotate this, but videos is now stuck on Portrait!
Again, the PORTRAIT ORIENTATION SETTING is NOT LOCKED! But it still wouldn't go to Landscape.
Is this some sort of a "gyroscope" problem??

Sorry, but you are mistaken about both observations.
You CAN DEFINITELY take photos in Landscape and you CAN DEFINITELY watch YouTube videos in PORTRAIT (just tried it now using my sister's working iPhone).
Also, my CALCULATOR does not go to LANDSCAPE (i.e. from normal to Scientific) automatically.
So I still think it could be a gyroscope problem...but I'm not 100% sure.
