IOS 5: Phone button stopped functioning

After updating IOS 5,  the phone button at my IP4 has stopped functioning. I can not make phone calls except using contacts button or listen my messages. I see that I have 4 messages but the application switches off after two seconds or does not start after pressing the phone button. There are other problems such battery draining. I realized that notification system is not functioning as well, despite me turning off all notifications I am still getting notifications from NYT and  Facebook as well.

It took me a couple of days because most of the time I have the sound turned off.  It was only after my son was playing Slice Fractions and asked me to turn on the sound that I noticed it at all and only then because the app was loud as...well, it was really loud.
On the other end of the service report spectrum, for whatever reason, my gut told me to get Apple Care when I got the phone.  May have been the persuasive smile of the salesgirl or just good instincts...  Still, they were really professional on my text-chat session.  We tried a few of the things that were outlined above and then they just set me up with an appointment at the Genius Bar for Wednesday afternoon.  I am told there is a good chance that they will give me a new device if they can't fix it on the spot.  Since I will be restoring from a backup, the problem, if it is a glitch, should appear on the new phone as well and then we'll have our answer...
Apple Care vs. Taking Care is like the difference between Good Whiskey vs. Cheap Whiskey:
Pay now or Pay later...
I'll keep you posted...

    Hi JMackey,
Is there the same issue when sending emails via OWA?
If you use "Ctrl+Enter" shortcut to send the email when the issue occurred, how about the result?

  • Send Button Stops Functioning on Some Email

We are using Exchange 2010 in online mode with Outlook 2007 (I have a couple of Outlook 2013 users who are having this problem, too, though). We experience
an intermittent failure of the Send button. The email doesn't go to the Outbox - nothing happens when the Send button is pressed and appears to be disabled. We
use the workaround of creating a new email and pasting everything over.
I have seen some chatter in the past about inline JPEG signatures (we have them, but this has happened without them) with HTML email (we are in HTML
mode, but changing to RTF and then back to HTML, which has been suggested as a solution previously doesn't work). This happens on emails with attachments, emails with no attachments, emails that were saved to drafts, brand new replies, forwarded email, new
    email. I can't see a pattern.
I remember reading something in 2011 about there being an issue with the Exchange store that was supposed to be resolved in a roll-up. We're current with our roll-ups and patches.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

  • HT201210 after upating ios my phone has stopped working.

iphone 4 quit working as soon as I updated ios.  Shows a picture of the charger plug, an arrow, and the iTunes icon.  Will not shut off, tuen on, nothing.

The picture is telling you to connect your iPhone to a computer that has the latest version of iTunes installed.  My advice is to use your own computer.  If you are using a computer other than your own, create a new user account and make sure that you have logged in to your own Apple ID.

  • IPhone 5S home button stopped working after iOS 8.3 update

My home button stopped working after I updated it to the iOS 8.3. My finger print can still unlock the phone but the home button won't work.

What you are describing sounds more like a hardware issue than a software issue.  Make an appointment at the genius bar of your local apple retail store and have the device evaluated.

My iphone home button stopped working and the phone started getting hot. The camera also fogged up. What do I do?

I'm guessing it's a hardware problem. Your best option is to go to an Apple Store as soon as you can to try and sort this all out. While you're waiting to go visit an Apple Store, however, I'd imagine you still want to use your phone. To circumvent your hardware button problems, try enabling Assistive Touch by going to Settings>General>Accesibility>Assistive Touch. You'll see a small box appear on your screen. Tapping it will bring up several options for you to choose from, like the home button. Clicking the "Device" option will give you several options for controlling your phone that you would normally use hardware buttons for (i.e. volume, lock your phone, etc.) Hope this helps and good luck!

  • Hi all, my ipad mute hardware button just stopped functioning, I have to use lock rotation to enjoy some apps..what do I do?

Hi all, my ipad mute hardware button just stopped functioning, I have to use lock rotation to enjoy some apps..what do I do?

Your statement doesn't make sense to me.... But it could just be me not understanding what you mean. Let me explain how the side switch and the control center work for screen rotation lock and system sounds.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • Is the on/off button bad function a hardware problem? What can I do if a mobile company don't fix this? Besides, my phone still have the apple warranty

Hello everyone, I bought an iPhone 5 six months ago from a mobile company. now the on/off button is not working properly. I send it to this company technical service support and they didn’t fix it saying that the button problems are not covered by the warranty; moreover they say that warranty just covers software and hardware problems. First, is the on/off button bad function a hardware problem? What can I do if a mobile company don’t fix this? Besides, my phone still have the apple warranty

  • HT4623 Facetime on my IPad (IOS 7.0.2) has suddenly stopped functioning. What could be the reason ?

Facetime on my IPad (IOS 7.0.2) has suddennly stopped functioning. What could be the reason and how can the problem be rectified ?

As for the downgrade Sorry, but Apple does not provide a downgrade path for iOS.
Because downgrading is unsupported by Apple we cannot discuss it on these forums, but you can use Google to find information on how to install an older version of iOS on any device.
Feel free to let Apple know at http://www.apple.com/feedback
I'd recommend you to restore your device as new in recovery mode and start from there:

  • Volume and Lock buttons stopped working after new iOS 4.3.3 update (ipod 4th gen)

After I updated my ipod with the iOS 4.3, the volume and lock buttons stopped working.
This has happened before and it'sprobably one of the most annoying problems ever.
The lock button tends to stop working but then works again only when it wants to, but the volume buttons dont work at all.
When the locked button worked again I turned it off and turned it on again, but it didnt fix the problem.
I've pretty much tried everything that I've read and nothing seems to work.
So now, I don't know what to do.
Should I take it to a random apple store or to where I bought it from?
It seems that it's happening to almost everyone, so at least I'm not the only one and maybe someone can help me out

If you have restored in iTunes on a computer and the problem remains then it's a hardware fault and it needs to be repaired. When you update the iOS version on an iOS device it checks the hardware components, this is when it'll detect un-diagnosed hardware faults and the components will stop working... even if they were working previously
