IOS 5 photo edits not really saved?

I cropped and applied auto-enhance to photos on my iPhone 4S running iOS 5then uploaded what I thought were edited photos to Facebook.
It turns out the edits were not really saved even though I saved the edits.
Original photos before the edits were uploaded Facebook.
Is this a bug? What would be the point of editing photos using the iOS 5 photo edit tools if the edits are not really saved for export?
Is there a fix?

This is interesting, because I had the opposite experience, but then I touched something. :-)
It seems that the Photos app behaves like iPhoto in that you can revert your edits. It can be done directly in the Photos app (clumsy) or in iPhoto once you've copied the photo to your Mac (easier).
I cropped a photo and uploaded it to FB. It looked cropped both on FB and in my linked iPhoto album. I thought that Photos had overwritten my photo because I didn't see an obvious way to revert it. After discovering how to revert the image, I did so in iPhoto. Now the image on FB and in the linked album show the image as uncropped.
I don't know if this helps your situation, but it explains a bit more of the weird Photos behavior that's been observed since iOS 5 dropped.

  • IOS photo edits not preserved when I upload to Revel

I imported my SD card into my iPad.  Since I was not connected to the Internet, I did not immediately upload my pictures to Revel.  I edited them (crop, exposure, etc.) using the built in iOS tools.  They looked great.  However, when I imported them into Revel all my edits were gone.
Can't Revel preserve the iOS edits?
I am using the latest iOS release and the Revel 2.0.

You are correct that the app works this way. This  is part of the design decision for Revel to always preserve your original photo, despite edits and changes that applied on top of the original.
If you wish to work around this and import the edit, then in the iOS Photos app, view the photo you want to import into Revel.  Long press the image until ‘Copy’ is displayed, and select that.  Switch over to Revel, and tap ‘Add.’  At the bottom of the grid of images, you’ll see “Clipboard” and the edited version of the image.  Import this, and you will have iOS-edited image in Revel. After importing this way, Revel will not be able to revert this image to its original form.

  • HT201317 Lost iphone, want to see if my photos and notes were saved on icloud

I lost my iphone, how do I check if my photos and Notes were saved in icloud using my MAC ?

Assuming you have something newer than a 3G:
Many users have lost photos while preforming a restore from backup or upgrading the iOS.   Recall, only photos in the camera roll are backed up to iCloud.  There is a way to turn backups for camera roll on/off, perhaps these users had camera roll turned off.
    See:
Settings>icloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage,  tap the device's name and on the next screen, be sure Camera Roll is turned on.
You can turn on Notes on the mac to get to notes, or use a browser an log into icloud.com and go to the notes page.
    IMPORTANT...
Photos should be regularly synced to a computer (like you store photos from a digital camera) using either USB via iTunes (on a mac use iPhoto or Aperture to move them to an album) or using photo stream.  If you have been doing that, then you can sync those photos back to your device.
If you haven't been saving photos except relying on iCloud to store them in a backup, then that is risky, as many users have discovered.  I'm afraid I have no advice in this case - there is no "cure".

  • Why are my video edits not being saved on Photoshop CS6?

Why are my video edits not being saved on Photoshop CS6?
I made a TON of edits in a video group, then duplicated that group into another file... and all my edits are gone.
I spent hours working on this, so please let me know what the hell happened and how I can make sure it never happens again...
also--why would CS6 come with such a devastating feature?!?! Who came up with this???

    Welcome to the forum.
I did not see any reference to Save, Save_As, or Save_As_a_Copy. Did you use one of those?

  • Files edited in Lightroom and displayed correctly in Bridge are not really saved

Hi I used Lightroom 3 to edit pics on a laptop, saved. Transferred the files through explorer to a USB card, copied to my desktop. Opened though Bridge CS4 – the pics were displayed perfectly (as edited). Through explorer however the pics were shown as not edited – so I found out the files were not saved as edited, but the editing info was added to the files. Not too bad but how should I order prints? Or show the pics on a computer where there is not Lightroom nor Bridge? The only method known to me is opening all files in Photoshop and saving the files there. Hell of a job! Please help. Thank you. Dmitry

Not sure what this means.  Where was the editing info added to?
Sometimes using an external drive on can run into permission problems, so the info is not written.  Can this be a reason?

  • IPhone Photo Edits Not Saved with 3rd Party Apps

I have been using Postagram successfully for some time.  However, now, when I take a photo with my iPhone and save/done the edits I make, this version of the image is not uploaded to Postagram-only the original, unedited image is uploaded.
In short, I take the picture, I edit the picture, I click save/done and the edited image lives in my Camera Roll; however, only the original version is uploaded to Postagram.
Has anyone experienced this or have a solution?
    Thanks.

I have this issue but didn't recognize it until I read your post. I thought it was 2 bad photos.
I'll subscribe to this tread to see if anyone comes up with a fix.

  • Photo Editing Not Saving Changes?!  Why??

After I finish editing my photos and save them I go to upload them on another site, and all of my edits are unsaved. This keeps happening.  does anyone know why??

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
    Should that not work:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Photo edits not showing up in iPhoto when using PSE

I have recently purchased Photoshop Elements 13 and have set iPhoto to use it as my editor. That is working, however, when I save the file, the new file does not show up in iPhoto. It does, however, show up in Organizer. Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks Larry, I don't doubt that I'm not doing it correctly, but I don't know what I am doing wrong.  I have selected PSE to be my external editor in the iPhoto preferences and when I select a photo in iPhoto to edit, it comes up in PSE. I edit the photo and select save (or click on the X in the top right corner of the image, I have tried both and gotten the same results both ways. I get a dialog box that indicates PSE is going to save the file in psd format. I have let it do that and I have also changed to JPG, neither has made any difference. I have also gone in and changed the preferences in PSE to replace the original file on the advice of help at Elements Village. It didn't change the file in iPhoto before that change and it hasn't changed it after that change either.
The file I originally was working with was in RAW format, and I read in another thread that there was no way for PSE to save the edited RAW file back into iPhoto directly, that it would need to be saved somewhere else, such as to the desktop, and then imported back into iPhoto. So, I edited a jpg file and saved it and that edited file did not show up in iPhoto either. From reading other threads, it seems to work for other people, but I don't know what I and doing wrong or what else to try. I have spent a ton of time trying to get this to work because I don't care for the PS Organizer and would prefer to use iPhoto to organize my photos and PSE and ACR to edit them, but so far I am not having any luck with it other than saving the edited file somewhere else and then importing it again into iPhoto, which is a pretty clunky way to have to do it.

  • Photo edits not visible in finder

Although I have ticked "automatically write changes into xmp" I cannot see any of my edits if I see or open my photos through the file manager.
Why can't I see my changes?
Please note that I'm still using a trial version. Could that have something to do with it?

The trial is a fully working program, just with a deadline of 30 days.
The images are left untouched, until you export. Your edits are saved in the LR database as well as in the XMP sidecar if selected as you did. To see the changes the edits need to be applied to the images. This can be done in LR by exporting. Other programs can only show your changes if they can read your edits from the XMP sidecar and apply these to the images. Finder will always show your original images.
You should read some more about the main principles of LR, specially 'Nondestructive Editing'.

  • LR 5: Photo edits not showing in main window of Develop module

I just now installed LR5, converting my LR3 catalog to LR5 catalog. Everything seemed to go fine. I picked one photo and converted to the 2012 process. The new sliders appeared.
The problem: Any changes I make are seen only in the Navigator window, not the main window. I figured there had to be a simple fix, but I've scoured the web and can find no one having similar problems. Any ideas?

Ok, I feel a wee bit sheepish. I closed LR and reopened. No more problem. I converted another photo and could see the edits in the main window--without restarting LR.

  • Photos are not being saved

My Blackberry Curve 8530 has stopped saving pictures even though the display appears to indicate the pics are being saved. There is also plenty of memory left. I have no idea why this is happening.
On another point, browsing through the various community forums, it appears that, for the most part, blackberry phones are 1) either too complicated for most of us to operate; or, 2) that the phones don't really work all that well. No wonder the company charges for service.
Why do we let give money to Blackberry and our carriers when it appears the main way that they make money is by screing us?

    Hello,
    traildog wrote:
If you buy a device and it does not work properly, then the customer should have real and free access to the company in order to fix it--especially under warranty. Apparently, we are expected to not have these expectations.
You do...but not direct from RIM. By contract, all formal support is provided by the carriers and authorized resellers, including warranty support. RIM provides zero free front line support. The carriers have received enhanced training on BB's and also have the ability to escalate, at no cost to you, your case into RIM. That is the way it works.
    traildog wrote:
I have 64.6 MB of free memory space. I'm not sure which line refers to the operating system in options-about.
There are three types of potential memory on a BB: 1) Application Memory, 2) Device Memory, and 3) Media/SD Card Memory
Application Memory -- This is the most crucial; it is the protected (not user accessible), dedicated, and fixed (in size) space that is available as the destination for the installation of applications (plus some application storage, overhead and such). You cannot touch AppMemory. You cannot improve the maximum AppMemory that your BB has. It is what it is. Applications can only install here...there is no option.
Device Memory -- This is space on your BB that you can touch to store files, pictures, media, etc. Typically, it is not terribly large, but it is available to you.
SD/Media Card Memory -- This is what it says...your SD card, for you to store files, media, pictures, etc. It can be as large as your BB OS can support...see this KB:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB05461
On some devices/OS levels, you can only see "File Free" (Options > Status), which I think is equivalent to AppMemory. On other devices, you can see all three memory usage levels (Options > Memory). Here are some guidelines to use:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15345
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB14320
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB14213
Lastly, it is always important to properly close applications when you are done with them. Using the Back or the Red key will not do this -- those leave it to the app to decide what to do...and some will leave themselves resident in memory, consuming resources on your BB, slowing the overall performance. Rather, to close an app, press and select "Close" or "Exit"...that will force the application to be closed, freeing up for your new use the resources it was consuming. Some apps will always remain running (typically -- BBMessenger, Browser, Homescreen, Phone, and Messages)...but, you should still close them properly - especially the Browser...if it is left on an active web page, it will not only consume extra resources but battery power as well.
Further, anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure. Some have taken to doing this on a regular basis as a preventive measure...some as frequently as once per day. Others have obtained the QuickPull app to automate a simulated Batt-Pull.
    Best and Good luck!

  • Captured photos are not being saved - occasionally...

    Hi,
    I own a month-old Lumia 830.
It took me a while before finding out that many of my photos that I took on many occasions are not saving, even though the screen is showing the word 'saving'.
I usually do not necessarily preview the photos each time I snap a few; it's not until I attempt to preview after few days. Therefore, that is why I did not know I actually have been having an issue with this phone's camera. I am using the original microSD that came included inside this phone. By the way, sometimes after snapping a photo or try previewing it right after it, the phone takes out of the camera mode, and back to the Home screen.
Anyone else is having the same issue or knowing what to do?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Here is my feedback so far.
The soft resetting did not exhibit any effect at all, including whether or not I selected the option to save on SD or Phone either.
What I found interesting, there are actually two camera applications in this phone. 1. that is the one included by default in the Home page, which starts also when one physically presses the side camera button, it is labeled 'Nokia Camera';  2. is another camera interface I have discovered when I was scrolling through the listing of application titles already installed by default on this phone, which it is called 'Camera' .
Each one seemingly execute a different GUI - mid you, I am not sure why would Nokia includes (2) camera applications - maybe a contingency plan for individuals like me!
So I ran the 'Camera' application, which is different from the 'Nokia Camera', I was able to snap dozens of photos without a glitch, all were saved on the SD. But then when I reverted back to 'Nokia Camera', I was able to snap up to 4 photos only (some of which I was only able to retrieve/preview not without first navigating to 'Nokia Camera>Settings> clicking on 'Find photos and videos shot with Nokia Camera', while the fifth kept on showing 'savig.....' endlessly, without ever being saved or found. I have tried the same scenario dozens of times - same result. The only way I was able to get out of this screen was by pressing the back button.Yet when I went back using the 'other' Camera only application, there was no problem taking 10-20 photos. They were all saved on the SD/Phone regardless.
This morning I tried both applications again, but for some odd reason, I was able to snap a dozen photos using both applications without any issue.
I am puzzled - both versions are working fine (for now) - but who knows for how long.
    Thanks everyone for your insights!

  • Photo edits not being recognized by developers

i have edited several of my photos (sepia, black/white, antique, etc) while keeping the original too. each edited photo is given a different name (such as "img18412.jpg") in the "get info" tab of "photos." at the bottom left of iphoto window, under information, it states "titile: img_1841.jpg" - which is the same as the original. if i send the edited photo to someone via e-mail, the changed photo appears. if i send off to another company to print (costco.com or mpix.com), the changes aren't noted. how can i change the name of the picture so that the latter companies can recognize the edited versions? (hope i made sense!) thank you in advance for any help that can be given.

My best guess without having the above information) is that you are going into your iPhoto library originals folder and uploading from there - which is the incorrect way to upload and will give you the originals rather than the current version
The correct way to upload is to export your photos to a desktop folder from iPhoto and upload from there

  • Hiding Photos - well not really.

Seems to me that the essential purpose of "hiding photos" is confused by how iPhoto is doing this - unless of course, I am misunderstanding something.
    Can someone please clarify.
If I want a few photographs to not appear in my general iPhoto library, how do I place these elsewhere - say a new folder - without the current sign in the upper right hand corner announcing, "6 more hidden" - which essentially defeats the very purpose; instead of hiding them, these pictures are now front and center announced as being hidden! Can one place photos in a separate folder for example, while deleting them from the main library? (When I try this, the pictures get deleted both from the new folder and the main library.)
Curious what others are doing with this.
    Thanks,
    John.

The only way to completely hide and protect photos for others who have access to your computer is to put them in their own separate library and put that library in a password protected disk image file.
Or, create a separate user account for the others and password protect your account. Let them create and user their own library in their own account.
