IOS 5 Photo Syncing Issues

I've been having major problems with syncing photos to my iPhone after installing iOS5 and it performed a factory reset. I have a lot (40k+) of photos and whenever I tried to sync them after the restore it would give me the unhelpful 'the sync failed to finish' or 'waiting for items to copy' error message. For three days and six or so hours I tried every combination of factory resets, backup deletions, reinstalls and restarts I could think of to no avail untill eventually I worked out a (very lengthy) solution. I have no idea why it works but hopefully it will be of use to you, since a lot of people are having a similar problem.
Sync the phone with no photos, music or video (just apps) and back it up
Delete the phtoto cache and all other backups
Split your albums up on windows explorer or iPhoto so that each one has less than 2500 photos in it
Factory restore your iphone, sync nothing but apps, uncheck wi-fi sync and check 'manually manage music and video'. in the summary tab
As soon as the phone restores, go through the setup screens, set it to airplane mode, check a single photo album on the photos tab on itunes and sync
Wait - iTunes will normally hang up on the 'waiting for items to copy' screeen for a few minutes on each album (sometimes as long as half an hour) but it normally will begin to copy the photos VERY SLOWLY
When your first album has finished syncing, disconnect the phone and restart your computer
Repeat 5 and 6 for all other albums
This method has worked for me and so far I have ~20k photos and all my apps on my iPhone - but apple really needs to come up with a bug fix. Does this method work for you? Feedback would be useful.

Wow, that's quite a workaround! Thanks for all that time and effort. I'm personally not really prepared to do all that as of now but it's great to know about.
My problems with photo syncing are similar, but I've never gotten a failed sync message. It just appears that certain albums don't copy over fully, and some not at all -- completely empty.
This really does need to be fixed. Are there others out there who are experiencing this problem?

  • Ipad2 photos sync issue ios8.1.1

I have an 64GB iPad2.  I normally sync my photos from iTunes on my PC. I have about 27,000 photos.  My iPad was experiencing slowness issues since upgrading to iOS8.1.  Today I updated to 8.1.1.
Photo sync from my PC is not working correctly.
It creates the required folders, but the content is empty.
I've closed all apps on the iPad, shut it down, rebooted.
    I've rebooted the PC.
I've unchecked all the selected folders to sync.  It successfully deleted all photos. (grrrrr)
I've tried changing the selected directory in iTunes from which to sync on the PC to one that only has a 1000 or so photos.
It creates the directory on the PC, but it's empty.
I get en error message "The iPad "XXXX's iPad" could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish."
Ideas?  If I go to the Genius bar, I won't have my PC.

I assume that you mean that the photo folders sync to the iPad but there is nothing in the folders.

That is how it is supposed to work. But I think that you know that. Surely you didn't expect to sync empty folders and have photos appear on the iPad if they were not in the folders that you synced. Maybe I am missing something and if I am please clarify for me.

Once again, I assume that you mean that you created another folder of photos with 1000 or so photos in it. If you created another photos folder, the photos have to reside in that folder or there is nothing to sync. this could be another case where I am misunderstanding ....

Have you tried quitting iTunes, rebooting your PC and then reset the iPad and try again - after you get this message? Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

  • IOS5 photo sync issue

In iOS5, after syncing photos from the computer, there appear two files with the same contents in the device, one is photo library, and the other has the same name as that in my computer. I turned off the function of photo streaming, and tried several times, but still 2 files with the same photos.
    How to solve it?

I can't sync photos, music or videos - somebody please help!
All items sync great with iTunes 7.3 including
calendar, music, video, etc. Everything but Photos.
I can't seem to get one single photo synced up with
the iPhone. I've tried resizing pictures down
smaller but that still doesn't work. Anyone else
    have the issue?

  • Unknown error -50 (aperture photo sync issue)

    OK.
iPod touch 16Gb connected to MB Pro. Aperture 1.5.x (latest).
    The following happened:
    1) In aperture I changed my preview for other apps jpeg quality from 6 to 10.
    2) Next two times itunes tried to sync images to the touch it crashed (gave the unexpected error - report to apple crashreporter) in the "preparing images for the ipod" stage.
    3) After that - it started giving unknown error -36.
So - I did a factory reset. Full reset to 1.1.2.
First sync after that it gave the "Cannot be synced - unknown error -50" at sync of photos.
Now - each time I try to sync it instantly gives the same unknown -50 error.
Now - the cable etc is OK - it all syncs fine if I turn off photo sync.
So - I am guessing that something somewhere in some disk cache or similar is probably screwed - the prepared photos - but - I have no idea where to look on disk.

OK - turns out the cache is in a directory called
    iPod photo Cache

    and several others.
The trick for people using aperture is that this directory is inside the aperture library file (the .aplibrary file).
Having removed this directory itunes is now regenerating the optimized photos

  • IPad (IOS 8) and iPhone (IOS 8) sync issues

    Hello,
I have an iPhone 5 as well as a 4th gen iPad. Ever since I factory reset my iPhone, the two will not properly sync. For example, my iPad will pick up an iMessage and it will never show up on my iPhone (even when I already have a conversation on the phone started).
Also, my camera roll will not completely sync. There are about 10 random pics that will just not sync.
    Steps I've taken:
    -iMessage activated on both devices
    -Camera roll sync activated
The only thing I can think of is that my iPhone has been acting a bit weird (which led to the factory reset).

    Hi iAndrew95,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature and scope of the issues you are describing. If you are talking about issues with Continuity and iCloud Photo Library in iOS 8 on these devices, you may find the information and troubleshooting steps outlined in the following articles helpful:

  • Itunes photo syncing issues between laptop/ipad

I'm syncing photos on my laptop to my new ipad2 via itunes and randomly in each folder around 10% of the photos always come out corrupted with horizontal lines or even half the picture missing.  Have tried reinstalling itunes etc but still get random corruption issues.  Have managed to successfully import the photos if I save them to my camera and import via the camera connection kit but don't want to do that for the thousands of photos I have on my laptop.  Any ideas?

I have now managed to find the cause of the problem.  All down to a conflict issue between itunes and Zonealarm.  The solution is to go into program access in Zonealarm and ensure that the iTunes Photo Processor program is set to NO ENFORCEMENT for trust level.   An alternative is to temporarily stop Zonealarm, sync and then turn on Zonealarm back on.  If you don't do this, a number of the photos (and it appears to be at random) become corrupted.  Hope this helps anyone else running Zonealarm.

  • IPhone Photo Sync Issues

I have an iPhone 4 from 2011 and a MacBook from 2009.  It's been a couple months since I've plugged in my phone to update/sync, and it won't allow me to access any photos!  It synced my music, apps, etc via iTunes but wouldn't sync my pictures. Since it usually just opens the iPhoto icon when I plug in my phone, I decided to open the app myself.  It acknowledges that my iPhone is plugged in but doesn't use my iPhone by it's name and says that there are no pictures on it.  I've tried to go in through Preview - File - Import from Apple iPhone but it says there aren't any pictures on there either.  I promise I'm not crazy; there are pictures on my phone! Any idea how I could get them to sync onto my computer?  Is it a computer issue or a phone issue?

I decided to eject my iPhone & plug it back in one more time... And it worked!  Not quite sure what happened originally but I'm glad it seems to be fixed now.

  • Photo Sync Issue

Hi, I just painstakingly spent all day putting photos from a fantastic weekend in order on my pc but when they've been sync to my ipad they're all out of order.  Please can someone let me know if there is a way to fix this, has happened on both my ipad 3 and mini

On iOS 5+ they are sorted by their 'date modified' field, so you will need to manipulate that for them to appear in your desired order.
Or you could use a third-party photo management app such as Photo Manage Pro instead, which allows you to change their sort order within the app itself e.g. by date, name or rating (ascending or descending), or you can drag them into your own order.

  • IOS 4 sync issue for Visages through iTunes

In iTunes, under the Photos tab, I select certain visages that I want to sync to the iPhone. 3 out of the 25 different persons I have but they will all (that the 25 differents people) be sync on the phone... If I select only one, same... Seems that selecting one or more has the same effect as selecting all of them...
Anyone else with the same issue? Any solution?

NOTE: This worked with the following: Windows XP Pro,
(Version 2002 SP2) and Outlook 2003. Your results may
    vary!
With your iPhone NOT connected, do the following:
    [laborious process omitted]
Again, once this process worked on my machine, and
was replicated on a second machine (Same OS, and
Outlook version) so I know it can be done
successfully without help from Apple tech support.
I'd be curious to hear from anyone trying this
process to see if this works in a different setting,
    (i.e. OS version, etc.)
I tried this, including rebooting my iPhone prior to resyncing it with Outlook, and there was no joy.
My symptom is that I can enter calendar items on the iPhone, and they appear on Outlook, but I can't enter calendar items on Outlook and have them appear on the iPhone.
My suspicion is this: I have multiple email accounts feeding into my Outlook account. I think that may have something to do with it. I've been waiting and reading the forums here, because I've been concerned that the iPhone support calls would be flooding in. But this is starting to be pretty annoying, so I'm going to try to call Apple and see if they can help. (And also with the "no additional mailbox" problem, which is also pretty durn annoying.)
If I find an answer, I'll post.

  • Hello! Photo syncing issue?

    Hi!
I have a problem with my laptop and iPhone. See I have no Internet so I can't use any wifi at all to sync photos like I used to. Or I can't upload them to deviantart over the Internet like I used to.
You know the setting where you can select a folder and sync it to your iPhone? Well this worked fine for me at first until my iPhone started to not get one certain picture I had added to the new folder. It would show up on my phone not did iTunes read it or recognize. The file type was PNG so I changed to JPEG however THIS didnt work either.
I also had created a new folder with just that one picture and it still did not sync to my iPhone.
-I have no wifi or Internet
-No android phone just an iPhone so that means I can't simply copy and past the picture into my files.
Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

No Wi-Fi or other Internet access is required for syncing pictures from the computer to the iDevice.
Plug the device into the computer.
Select the folders desired to sync.
    Sync.

  • Photo syncing issues

I have discovered that I can sync just one photo folder at a time. After syncing one folder, when I try to sync another, it replaces the one previously synced. And when I try to sync multiple folders at once, the sync runs continuously without end, without syncing any of the selected photo folders. I have even gone as far as to delete, then reinstall iTunes from my computer, but that did not solve my problem.
Help in solving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Simply place all of the folders you want to sync to your Touch into one "master" folder in iPhoto. Then you'll get them all.

  • HT4906 phone/photo syncing issues

My phone was automatically syncing.   As part of step 8, photos from mac transferred to my phone. How do I undo this ridiculousness?

Given no details a guess is that in the iPhoto on the Mac preferences you have checked to auto upload all new imports. If you do not want that ridiculousness then you need to uncheck the option you checked

  • IOS Mail syncing issues with iCloud - emails from 1970!!!!!

    Hi
I woke up this morning to find some very weird behaviour on my iOS devices (iPhone 5 32GB, iPad 2 32GB).
Both mail apps are synced to my mail accout with icloud yet both only seem willing to sync with all email from today and yesterday, and then only show emails from late November 2012. My iPad also seems to believe that I was sent some emails from 01/01/1970!!!!
As far as I am aware all was fine yesterday, and all seems to be fine with mail on my Mac.
    Any advice much appreciated,
I deleted the account from my phone and then re-added it but the problem was still there.
    Many thanks
    Andy

I have previously successfully fixed similar problem by resetting all settings. Settings - general - reset - reset all settings. Do not click the line that says erase content. You will lose your screen wallpaper, your wifi password and other minor stuff that is not worth mentioning, but nothing important.

  • IOS 5 syncing issues may be iCloud related?

There are a lot of people reporting problems syncing iPod Touches after upgrading to iOS 5, and after observing that my Touch partially copies music over but stops at 5 GB... wait, that's exactly the default, free storage limit for iCloud, right? That is very unlikely to be a coincidence. Is there some iCloud option somewhere that's not very obvious, that keeps sync from going beyond 5 GB?
the iPod itself, Settings -> General -> Usage -> Music reports only 5 GB of storage used.

Maybe not - after another couple of sync attempts, it still isn't copying everything over but it's now 7.0 GB used for music.
