IOS 5 update failure on 3 Devices

For the past year or more, I haven't been able to install updates from iTunes to my iPad, and IPod Touch 3G and 4G.  I keep getting the network connection time-out issue.  However, I've been able to successfully update all 3 devices by directly downloading the updates to my computer, and installing from there.
That worked fine, until now.  When iOS5 came out, I directly downloaded the update files like before, and tried to update manually.  The updates all failed with the same error message - "The iPod/Pad could not be updated.  An unknown error occured (3002)."  I'm aware of the server overload issue in the immediate wake of the iOS5 release, and took the advice to wait awhile to retry the update process.  But it's now almost a week later, and after literally dozens of attempts to install this latest iOS release, they keep failing with the same error message.  For what it's worth, I have the latest iTunes release (installed and re-installed), and have IOS 4.3.5 on the iPad and iPods.  iTunes and Windows Vista diagnostics says everything is fine with my network connections and settings. I have tried disabling firewalls and antivirus security during the updates, and it makes no difference.
Does Apple have any real solutions to this mess (lots of other users are still having similar problems I see), or are some users devices permanently relegated to running older operating systems?

Sigh.  Yes, thank you, I have the correct updates for each device, downloaded directly from Apple.  I know how to install them directly from my computer, that's what I've had to do for the past year or so.  As I said, it always worked, until now.  My question is, why doesn't it work anymore, and what is Apple doing to address this, and the multiple other update failure issues that users are having with iOS5?

  • IOS 8 update failure

Hi, Just attempted IOS8 update via iTunes on PC running Windows 7, received "known error" now the phone is stuck with the connect to iTunes symbol, won't respond, hard reset just boots the phone back to same connect to iTunes screen, can anyone help, I recall this happening in the IOS7 update and only resolved when I went to store and connected to a MAC? thoughts?
    Tks.

    Hey Helenpeacock,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the phone wont update to the new OS. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a nice day,

  • Ios 7 update failure?

Tried updating y iPhone 4s to iOS 7; however it is stuck @ "connecting to iTunes" from the last 3 days. My iTunes is no longer recognizing my iPhones inspite of several uninstalling & reinstallinng iTunes.
    SOS!!!

Thanks for your inputs guys. I resolved the issue as follows -
My office comp (Win 7) still had the old iTunes (not the 11.1). I just connected the iPhone 4s to it & it immediately recognized. That way I could restore my iPhone 4s without any loss of data. However, I'd taken the backup of my latest iPhone 4s from my home computer which was failing to recognize my "hung" iPhone 4s.
And, I restored my iPhone 4s to 6.1.3 without any loss of data!!!
    Hope the above helps others.
    Cheers

It's not being recognized by iTunes not even Windows. It was not responding to cured by rebooting with any button combimnations.
I cured the problem after spending a 1/2 a day of trying.
    Here are the the steps:
    1. Uninstall iTunes and all Apple sofware.
    2. Install a Wondershare MobilGo  to your PC.
    3. Connect the iPhone.
    4. Let the MobilGo to install the previous version of the iPhone driver and iTunes.
    5. Close the MobilGo and Open the iTunes - iTunes will see the device and it will restore it.
    Have fun.

  • IOS 7 doesn't work on iPod touch 4g, so does the mean its the end for this device? Or are they going to make updates specially for lower devices an apps that are compatible ??

iOS 7 doesn't work on iPod touch 4g, so does the mean its the end for this device? Or are they going to make updates specially for lower devices an apps that are compatible ??

Which apps remain compatible will be up to the individual developers who sell those apps. There will be no further iOS updates, but those aren't really necessary to continue to use and enjoy your device. I still have an iPad 1 running on iOS 5, and it is fully functional.
The App Store has an app called VintApps 3.1.1 that is specifically geared toward iOS 3.1, however, you would probably be able to run most of those apps on your iPod, and considering that there will be a rather large market for iOS 6 apps users, it is not likely that you will see a significant reduction in choices any time soon.
It is not the end for the device in any sense except that it is at it's ultimate iOS level. And again, I have an iPad that is at it's ultimate iOS level (iOS 5), and I get new apps all the time that work for both my iPad and my iPhone that runs iOS 6.1.1
    No need to fret....

People are dissatisfied with the new update a lot, including some of my friends and acquaintances. Is it reasonable to wait until Apple implements the possibility to return to Ios Ios 6 to 7? And how soon it can be done?
Sorry for my english, i am from Russia.

I have a similar issue. I recently purchased an iPad Mini, and I started off by backing it up from the apps I had on my iPhone. Now, I have a number of apps that never downloaded and that I don't want on the iPad. Some of these are apps that I don't need, while others are the iPhone versions of apps. There are something like 23 apps that I have no use for, but iTunes tries to install every time I connect. I've also tried clicking the 'Will Install' buttons. There's no way to delete these apps from the iPad without first installing them, as far as I can see, and there's no way to NOT install them, in iTunes.
It''s not just annoying, it's causing problems with installation of larger files and movies. Now, every time I sync to the computer, I get a warning that I'm over capacity by 580 MB, and larger apps will not install! Clicking Revert and a bunch of other things doesn't work, either. And I can't just delete some of the apps, because I or my wife use them on our phones!

Hey guys how do I update my Ipad 2 IOS5 to IOS6 ?

The current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

Tip - Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update.
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

  • HT4623 Hi, I have an iPod touch 2G with an iOS of 4.2.1 and there are no updates available for my device, I want to download an older version of iBooks that is compatible with my device. Pls what can I do?

Hi, I have an iPod touch 2G with an iOS of 4.2.1 and there are no updates available for my device, I want to download an older version of iBooks that is compatible with my device. Pls what can I do?

    - The 2G iPod can only go as high as iOS 4.2.1. It does not have the hardware to support a higher iOS version.
    - Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.
    - You can only download the current version from the App store.

Well, now is probably not a good time to try it. The servers are overloaded, and if you look at most of the posts on this site right now, people are getting hung up at various points of their download and activation.
You need to hook your device up to the computer you sync with and download it via iTunes, or keep checking your device until you see IOS 7 is available.
But my advice would be to wait - otherwise you are just going to be frustrated, and unable to use your device....
