IOS 5 Update on IPAD

should it take 4 hours to load the new IOS 5 TO MY IPAD?

It took about an hour for me to update. However, I downloaded the update first before I updated the iPad. The downloaded file was pretty big. It took awhile even though I have a very fast network. I believe the download speed is also dependent on # of users hitting Apple's servers. My iPhone download took 5 hours.

    Hi ..
    Try a reset.
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

  • Why do I have to enter my Apple ID after an iOS update on iPad?

    Every time I update iOS on my iPad, it asks me to enter my Apple ID to configure iCloud despite the fact that iCloud is already configured.
    Why is that? It's a hassle, annoying, and doesn't happen on my iPhone.

    You're right, it's because you're a course creator or contributor.
    You can just cancel this dialog box but you can't avoid it.

    Re: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgradein response to pacoKAS
    SOLVED:  IOS 8 Issues on iPad 2:
    I just returned home from a visit to the Genius Bar. Like you and many others, when I upgraded my iPad 2 to IOS 8, it became practically unusable. It was VERY slow, lagged whenever trying to to do anything. Lots of screen freezes and apps spontaneously crashing. I was convinced that the processor on the iPad 2 just couldn't handle the new IOS and I went in to see about restoring to IOS 7.
    Thankfully, I was hooked up with a very sharp guy at the bar. The problem is not with the OS, it is with it being an *upgraded* OS. He used the analogy of when you had an older Windows computer and how over time (and over upgrades), they just tended to get slower and slower because of all of the garbage that was carried forward in the upgrades. At those times (and if you've ever had a Windows computer, you get this), the only thing that would speed it up would be to wipe the machine and do a fresh install of the current OS and then reload your apps, and the viola, everything would be fast again. Well, it turns out that IOS can suffer the same problems.
    THE FIX:  FIRST, be sure you have a current iCloud backup of your device.  Connect your iPad to a computer that has a clean fresh copy of IOS 8 on iTunes (this is best done with a computer other than the one that you sync your device to because you DO NOT want to restore it from a back up just yet). Ideally, if you do this at an Apple store you'll be assured of the right version there and someone to answer any questions you might have along the way. You then hold the power and home button down to hard-reset the device and continue to hold them down until it reboots into recovery mode. You then follow the instructions on the computer to reinstall the OS on the device (which wipes everything from it and then reinstalls a clean copy of it). Once this is done (which only takes about 15 minutes), your device will reboot and ask you to set it up. Answer the questions about language, location, etc. and continue until it asks you to log into your iTunes account. Once you do that, it will ask if you want to either 1) Set it up as a new device, 2) Restore from iCloud, or 3) Restore from iTunes. Choose (2), restore from iCloud. This will ensure that it brings down "clean" copies of all of your apps and preferences rather than the potentially corrupted ones that might reside in your iTunes backup. That's it! It will take a few hours depending on how much data and apps you have, but I am happy to report that my iPad 2 is now running IOS 8 and it's running as fast as it ever did when it was brand new!
    To sum it up, this process 1) Wipes your device and the garbage causing your problems, 2) Loads a clean and bug-free version of IOS 8 to your device, and 3) restores your apps and data so that it looks just like it did before the wipe, with the exception that it works now!  :-)
    Note also that by following this process you don't have to go through the painful and laborious process of reloading all of your apps, data and/or settings. iCloud takes care of all of that for you.

  • Error 9 (repeatable) after ios update on ipad 3

    Hi,
    I tried to update my ipad 3 to the newest ios and it crashed. Won't turn on anymore, resetting keeps ending in Error 9 (two different machines, three different cables). Any chance to get that god **** thing going again? The ******* genius bar offers me exactly one afternoon to drop the bricked piece of metal, but I have to work. I am really frustrated.
    Thanks and please don't link to the stupid "Resolve iOS update and restore errors" page, nothing on there helps me.

    Thanks, but no help. I sort of took over this thread here, where you can see what i tried:
    UPGRADE KILLED MY IPAD
    Also: I am not going to wait half an hour in front of a ******* apple store to have them tell me that it is a hardware error (it is not, worked perfectly fine before the update, no other way than being triggerd by it) and that they will kindly replace it for 350 bucks (wait, is that the price for a new nexus 9? oh, it is!). I am not an idiot. It's still hard to grasp how people accept that kind of "support" by a company that likes to present itself as industry leader.
    Appreciate your help though, really.

  • IOS Update locked Ipad 2

    I updated the IOS system on my Ipad 2 and I was locked out and it is now asking for a passcode.  I didn't have a passcode set to my knowledge.  It is now disabled--data is not all backed up.  How can I save info without wiping everything?

    You should always backup prior to installing an iOS update.

    You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom

  • I have a 2nd gen ipad. Since the latest ios update my ipad will not charge when hooked up to my computer running windows 7 and even though it shows that it syncs in Itunes, it will not download any apps. It just seems to skip that part.

    I went to the apple store and they hooked up my ipad to a mac and it showed that it was charging and that apps would download. My ipones, touches, and ipods are not having any problems, just this ipad. It seems to be since I updated to the new ios. You can't even do a restore on it because it doesn't recognize it. It shows up top that it's doing that but nothing happens on the ipad. The computer seems to recognize the ipad, itunes recognizes it. It acts like it is communicating with it but it doesn't download anything and won't charge when it's hooked up to the USB port. THe Apple store says there is nothing wrong with this ipad which is about 6 mths old. So what now?

    Most USB port do not supply enough current to charge the iPad.

  • IOS update fails (iPad 4) both wirelessly and via iTunes

    I bought an iPad 4 for a relative about six months ago.  It came with iOS 5.1.1, which was kind of outdated at the time... but that wasn't a big issue since they only wanted to play a few games.  Now I'm trying to repurpose it, and for its new purpose I need the iOS to be up to date.
    When I go to Settings > General > Update, it indicates that iOS 6.1.3 is available.  Trying to download the iOS directly on the iPad over a WiFi network takes about 15 minutes (apparently retrieving the entire file, then "preparing update" for a few seconds), but then results in an error dialog: "Software Update Failed / An error occurred downloading iOS 6.1.3."  There's no further information on the failure available on the iPad, as far as I'm aware.
    When I plug the iPad into my MacBook Pro running iTunes (ensuring that it is directly plugged into the laptop's own USB port rather than a hub, and that both iTunes and MacOS are fully updated), it shows the device as running iOS 5.1.1, enabling the "Update" button.  Clicking the update button downloads "iPad Software Update" which is 1.11Gb.  (Which itself is a bit odd; the MacBook's iTunes should have iOS 6.1.3 already downloaded, as my own iPad 4 is running that version.  It's the same hardware -- same cellular provider, same version iPad, same amount of memory -- as the iPad I'm trying to repurpose.)  When the download completes, it displays an error dialog: "The software for the iPad "[name]" was corrupted during download / Disconnect and reconnect, then try again. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later."  The iTunes downloads tab shows "err = 1403."
    When I plug the iPad into a Windows 7 laptop running iTunes (ensuring that it is directly plugged into the laptop's USB port, and that both iTunes and Windows are fully updated), it shows the device as running iOS 5.1.1., enabling the "update" button.  Clicking the update button downloads for about 15 minutes.  When the download completes, it displays the same error dialog as the MacBook.
    I have a 6.1.3 backup from my other iPad 4, on my MacBook's iTunes.  I figured I could restore that backup then reset the iPad to factory settings, yielding a clean 6.1.3 install.  But it says the iOS 5.1.1 is "too old" to restore the 6.1.3 backup on top of it.  I'm running out of things to try.

    no - there is no upgrade available for the version one iPad past IOS 5

  • Does this mean that ios 6.0.1 will be the last ios update for ipad 2 and iphone 4s?

    With the release of ios 6.0.2, which is only available for the iphone 5 (and ipad mini) does this mean that ios 6.0.1 will be the last software update for the 4s?

    As that was only a bugfix update specific to those devices, no.

    Since 8.3 iOS update my iPad keeps asking my old iTunes password for an account I've disabled as my e-mail got hacked. As a result I can't update any of my apps ( I'm missing out on hay day)

    Any content is tied to the account that you used to buy/download it - so if you created a new account as opposed to updating the existing one, then you will need to use the old account to download updates to its apps. Can you not update your old account so as to have a new email address on it (e.g. via this page) ?

    Also check the setting in Control Center (swipe up from above the Home button) as well (rightmost icon on the top row).
    For the Facebook crashing, try this:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
    If that has no effect, try deleting the Facebook App, then download & reinstall it.
