IOS 5 Wifi Sync - When Mac wired to router but there is a wireless network

I can get WiFi sync with iPhone 4s to work when I turn on WiFI on my mac and select the same network the iphone is on.
Since my Mac is wired right into the router (apple time capsule), would I have to turn on wifi on the mac to have it sync automatically?
I have a 50mb down connection and I get great speeds so I plug mac right into the router. Would turning on wifi on the mac and selecting the same network the iphone connects to slow my mac downloads? Or does the mac know that its wired (even if i turn on wifi) and use that as the connection out to internet?
Thanks.
Also, does the 4s connect to N networks? It doesnt show up in available networks on the iphone.

Ok, I had a glitch, forced to restart, and lost my train of thought.
Reinstalling iTunes should fix the major issue that might have gone wrong, perhaps your explaination points will disappear and everything will be peachy again.
But if they don't, you can open the XML file in iTunes Folder using a Text edit program to see what the common pathname is to the iTunes Music folder or where your content is located.
If you moved the itunes folder, it needs to go back.
I can't  download iTunes to my Vista virtual machine to test it out right now because iTunes is down, so I can't verify the pathname, perhaps your issue and the iTunes being down are related somehow?
You don't want to import all your music again, but it's a option, but you lose all your playlists, that's what I'm trying to recover.
If oyu don't have a whole lot of playlists, then simply select all the explaimation point music and delete, select File from the menu and import your itunes folder again.

We bought a time capsule, 1TB, then the wifi has a problem since it does not identify the existing wireless network and it says that its need to have an update firmware. The existing firmware is 7.3.1, does it have an newest update firmware existing now? Does APPLE do not provide latest firmware for this item?

How old is that Time Capsule?  The fact that it still have firmware 7.3.1 suggests that it's not the latest model.  The latest firmware available for my two-year-old model is version 7.5.2.  Apple does provide firmware updates.  You just have to let the Time Capsule download and install them.  Use AirPort Utility to do that.
Regarding your Wi-Fi problem, please explain what you mean by "it does not identify the existing wireless network".

  • Wifi Sync and mac sleep

My 2011 Mac Mini is usually asleep. Will wifi sync wake it up and then shut it down after? I am using a time capsule for the router and the mini is wired. Would it work any different if the mini was on wifi?

Are you running Lion on the Mini?
If so, perhaps try having "Wake for network access" selected, as per the following document:

  • ITUNES WIFI SYNC PROBLEMS (MAC MINI)

Hi Guys recently purchased a mac mini & loving how good it is compared pc.
I had iTunes on pc but transfered all music etc to mac mini & setup iTunes from scratch. Synced IP4 manually no probs & I then went in & ticked the option to sync this IP4 over wifi.
When I then try to sync over wifi on IP4 it says its looking for my mac mini but doesn't find it & also IP4 isnt showing in iTunes either (as it did when I used to do it on my pc).
My wifi is definitly working & connected on both mac mini & IP4. Could it be to do with an the pc that i used to sync it to being on the same network?
(I have updated Mountain Lion & Itunes to the newest versions & IP4 to ios6)
    Any advice would be appreciated.

You may be getting interference on your wifi. Mountain Lion has an inbuilt tool to help with this

  • IOS 5 wifi sync not working on iPad 2

Just installed IOS 5 on my iPad but, its not working. Ive ticked the wifi sync option in itunes, plugged it into the wall, even unplugged and restarted my wifi, restore ios firmware and even reinstall itunes..Ive tried everthing and i just cant get it to work. When i try it just has the "Sync Now" option greyed out and says "Sync will resume when <computer name> is available. When I detach my cable during the syncing iTunes just can't detect my iDevice...Help SOS..

I have the same issue, and it seems to be fairly common. I don't think they have all the bugs worked out of WiFi sync yet. After reading on another forum, try the steps below, they work for me but usually only once. I then have to do it again to get another sync.
    1. Turn off the iPad, close iTunes on your computer.
    2. Restart iTunes, then turn your iPad on and try the sync again.

  • Wifi sync when phone not charging

Wondering if anyone else has seen this. Upgraded an iPhone 4 to IOS 5 last night, and set it up for wifi sync. Noticed afterwards that the phone was trying to sync on the owner's XP laptop about every 10 minutes, without the phone being on the charger.

I don't know if you have tried this or not but plug it in without the docking station. My docking station died on me after only 2 months I couldn't not get my phone to charge. I also thought it was my phone until I unplugged it from there and plugged the cord right into the phone and have been charging it like that since than.

  • Ios 5 wifi syncing working on iPhone but not iPad

I've updated all my devices (mbp to 10.7.2, iPhone 4 and iPad 1 to ios5).  I've turned on wifi syncing for both the ios5 devices. The iPhone syncs just fine over wifi (when I unplug the usb cable it stays in the DEVICES list, when I plug it into an ac charger the wifi sync starts).  The iPad doesn't.  When I unplug the usb cable it disappears from the DEVICES list.  Any ideas?

When I went to bed last night I unplugged my iPad from my mbp and it disappeared from iTunes.  When I got up this morning, it showed up in iTunes (I didn't even have to plug it in).  When I plugged the iPad into my AC charger, iTunes saw it and started a wireless sync.  Go figure.  Maybe it was just a time issue.  I'd done my iPhone yesterday morning and my iPad last night.  Maybe iTunes needs a few hours to actually recognize the wire connection..........

  • ITunes WiFi Sync works fine for 4 devices, but not for my iPad2

I'm using the latest version of iTunes (11.0.4)  on an iMac with the latest version of Mountain Lion (10.8.4) and multiple iOS devices listed below:
    iPad 1 (iOS 5.1.1)
    New iPad (iOS 6.1.3)
    iPhone 4S (iOS 6.1.3)
    iPhone 4S (iOS 6.1.3)
    iPad 2 (iOS 6.1.3)
iTunes WiFi Sync works fine for all the devices but the iPad 2. They all show up in the "Devices" area of iTunes (though sometimes I need to power them down and restart them to get them to show up properly) and they all sync automatically when plugged into a power source.
The iPad 2, however, behaves thusly:
    - Shows up under "Devices" in iTunes
    - Can be synced wirelessly IF initiated from the computer
    - Does NOT automatically sync when plugged in to a power source
    - CanNOT be synced wirelessly from the iPad itself, as under settings > general > itunes wifi sync, it shows the screen that says "to enable wifi syncing with itunes, connect to ituens on your computer using a cable..." as if I have this feature turned off in iTunes (which I do not). The "Sync Now" button is not displayed (not even a grayed out version).
    What I've tried:
    - Repeatedly powering down and restarting iTunes, the computer, the iPad, and the router in various orders and combinations
    - Repeatedly turning off and on the wifi sync feature via iTunes
    - Experimenting with the "Open iTunes when this iPad is connected" option as this actually fixed a similar issue on my iPad 1
    - Actually restoring the iPad to factory settings, then restoring from backup in case there was an issue with the iOS install
    Nothing has helped
    What I'm sure it's not:
    - A problem with the usual iTunes settings (check "enable WiFi sync", uncheck "prevent iPads from syncing", etc.). Since all other devices work and I actually can perform a wireless sync when initiated from iTunes, I don't see how the issue could live here at all.
    Any ideas? I'm pretty stumped!

Another oddity: When this iPad syncs, it does NOT create a backup as part of the process (whether wired or wireless). All my other devices do, as one would expect...

  • ITunes WiFi Sync not working with iPhone 6, but works with iPad 1

I have an iPhone 6 and an iPad 1. The iPhone 6 runs iOS 8 and the iPad 1 runs iOS 5.
Yet, the iPad works fine using iTunes WiFi Sync with my Mac, while my iPhone never works with it. Whenever I forcibly make it sync by clicking on the device in iTunes and on Sync, it gets ejected/removed from iTunes. This doesn't happen with my iPad.
Is this a problem specific with the iPhone 6? Anyone know what I can do to fix it?
If I uncheck and re-check the WiFi Sync setting for my iPhone 6, then it syncs fine the first time again. But it doesn't work after that. So the device is definitely on the correct WiFi network at least.

It continues to be UNREAL how Apple will release iOS software without testing it.  Yep.  They BROKE WIFI SYNC.  It no longer works on my iPhones or iPads either.  UNREAL!!!!!!

  • When connecting wired my router straight from my internet provider I get speeds in the 90mps range.  Now when connecting wired through my airport extreme I get speeds near 10mps. Also when using wireless for my ipad3 I recieve download speeds of .63mps.

When connecting, wired, to my router from my ISP I get speeds in the 90mbps range.  Then when connecting, wired, to my Airport Extreme I get speeds of 10mbps.  Wirelessly I get download speeds of 6mbps on my laptops and only 1mbs with my Ipad3.  I am making sure only one device is sharing the network to make sure to get accurate results.  Why are things so slow?

    Hi Ty,
First, check with you ISP to see what speed they've promised.  In my case, they indicated that the speed should be greater than 50 Mbps.  If they say that it should be significantly higher than what your getting, then try the following if you're using Airport Utility v.6.:
    1. Open the Airport Utility (Desktop: Command+Shift+U to open Utility Folder, select Airport Utility)
    2. Click on the visual representation of the Airport Extreme and then select "Edit" (bottom right corner)
    3. When the window opens (to a tab "Base Station"), click on the "Wireless" tab,
-it should have the following options: Network Mode, Wireless Network Name, Wireless Security, Wireless Password, Verify Password, a checkbox with "Enable Guest Network", and a button "Wireless Options..."]
    4. Select "Wireless Options", which should open another window with the following options:
5Ghz network name, Country, a checkbox with "Create hidden Network", Radio Mode, 2.4 GHz Channel, and 5 GHz Channel [both of which can stay on "Automatic"]
    5. Clicking on  "Radio Mode" will bring up a list in which the las option should read:
    802.11n only (5Ghz) - 802.11n only (2.4 GHz)
Once you click "Save", your router will blink amber for a little while and then it should work.
Hope this helps.  Let me know if it does/doesn't.

  • Mac Mini - Core Solo - Won't See Any Wireless network

I have a Mac Mini, first gen Intel, Core Solo, that won't see any wireless networks. However, it will see my extreme basestation, and my two airport express devices over bonjour, which makes me think that the wireless device is working.
I've reset the PMU, with no luck.
    Any suggestions?

Does an Airport card show in the system profiler?
Is Airport switched on in your mini - the Airport icon in the menu bar should show at least grey bars rather than an empty white 'fan' shape?
With Airport on, when you click on the Airport icon, does it show any network?
If you click on 'Join Other Network' and type the name of the wifi network you run, what error message does the system give?
How far away from the wifi base station is the mini? What kind of structures and environment is it in?
If you move the mini to be in close proximity to the wifi base station, does it show any signal?
When you download a copy of AP Grapher (http://www.chimoosoft.com/apgrapher.html) and run it, what does it show for signals, noise etc?
How is the mini seeing any wifi devices via Bonjour - do you have it wired into your network? If so, the fact that the devices appear via bonjour doesn't mean they are transmitting wifi, nor that they are in range.
By the way, the Core Solo mini doesn't have a PMU to reset. If you used the PMU reset procedure it won't have helped, and may actually have caused problems. The correct procedure for an Intel-based mini is an SMC reset, as follows:
-From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
-Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
    -Wait at least 15 seconds.
-Plug the power cord back in, *making sure the power button is not being pressed* at the time.
-Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
-Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.

  • [WRT54G v7] Wired is okay but cant connect to wireless

Hi guys, I just got this new Linksys WRT54G and set it up for my network. I originally had a BEFSR41 for my wired network and connected it to a wireless FON access point for my wireless needs. I got the WRT54G to reduce the clutter since it would make sense to get an all in one router. Anyway, I ran the CD that came in the box and everything went smooth. I was able to connect my desktop PC and my PS3 with no problems on wired. I could browse the net, download and etc. Things became gritty when I decided to connect my HP laptop on wireless. It could see the router but when I got connected, I couldn't surf the internet. So I tried changing the wireless settings of the router to see if it was the problem but to no avail. I tried changing the wireless settings even to a point of disabling the WPA/WEP keys. Just to make sure it wasn't the laptop, I attached the wireless FON access point to the router. Surely enough, I was able to get online wirelessly with the FON router thru my laptop. I then decided to reset the router. I turned it off, left it for a minute or so, renewed/released my IP on the laptop, restarted it to make sure but I still couldn't connect wirelessly. My wired connections on the PC and PS3 were okay though. Any suggestions before I send this back to the shops for replacement?

I'm assuming that your laptop is able to connect to other wifi networks. I've only seen a few Gv7 routers. You can reset the router and start all over. Do not use the cd. Set it up using the web interface.
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!
