IOS 6.1.3 iPad (4th Gen) battery?

I have a white 4th generation 64GB wi-fi iPad. I held off as long as I could on updating the firmare to the latest (iOS 6.1.3?). I have noticed a few improvements over the stock iOS 6 firmware. However, i have also had a major problem with it. I don't know if it is a hardware problem or a firmware problem (maybe both?).
I did the firmware update using iTunes on my PC. To be on the safe side, I reset my PC, cleared out junk/temp files from my PC using CCleaner. I disabled my Anti-Virus, and also disabled my firewall. I made certain no other applications were running. I did the update by erasing my iPad and chose to set it up as a new iPad.
After the update to iOS 6.1.3, I have had 2 major issues. First, the battery is no longer holding a good charge. The battery is draining a lot faster than it ever did before I did the update. Secondly, when using the wall charger (which to be safe is plugged into a surge protector), I thought I was hallucinating things but my iPad has started getting very hot while charging. I tried charging it at various different locations, and have had the same result. Has anyone else had any known issues with 6.1.3 with either massive battery drain or the iPad itself overheating?
I contacted Apple and expressed my issue. Unfortunately, i live in a small town in the middle of Indiana. I don't have access to public transportation and the closest actual official Apple store is over an hour drive from where i live. I am also permanently disabled and on a very limited income. So I don't have the extra cash to not only pay to ship my iPad to Apple. Considering how expensive an iPad is, I could and would not even consider shipping it without both shipping insurance, a tracking number, and the requirement of a signature to verify it arrived at Apple. Unfortunately, I purchased it over 30 days ago, so I cannot just return it to the store I bought it at (Best Buy) to exchange it for a new one.
Does anyone have any potential good working suggestions or solutions to attempt to address the battery issues i am having? If not, am I stuck with just hoping it doesn't catch fire and safe for a few months to afford the over priced shipping cost to send it to Apple to be repaired?

Take it back to Best Buy and talk to the store manager. Possibly they can work something out with Apple.
In the meantime, try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • IPad 4th Gen Battery Concerns

    Greetings to all,
I just recently picked up and iPad 4th Generation (32GB).
And when the battery got to about 10% I decided to plug it in.
After doing so, I continued to use the iPad.
I found that while using the iPad during charging it was, slowly but surely, depleting the battery.
Now I put the device in sleep mode, came back 15 minutes later and it had gained 5% charge.
Is this normal? Am I not suppose to use the iPad while charging?
Would really like to know. Any help is graetly appreciated.
    Thanks to all!

    How are you charging it?
The iPad has a very large battery, it will take quite a bit longer than charging an iPhone or iPod. It will charge best with the include 10 watt charger even while you are using it although it will charge a little slower while using it. Using a smaller iPhone charger or a computer's USB port the iPad will charge very slowly and probably discharge if you use it.

  • How long does an iPad 4th gen last for not battery I mean in Years

Hi .......ok so I got an iPad 4th Gen 16gb in New York last year (February 2013) and I was just wondering how long this will last, not in Battery life but in how long I can use it until it starts to get really slow and lagging and goes completely dead in years! I use my iPad regularly  maybe 4-5 hrs a day (average, sometimes more in a day and sometimes less) so can anyone help me how many years will I have my iPad before I will need a new one I keep my iPad in Great condition and no one uses bar me and I don't ever drop it or put anything illegal on it  so it is kept in great condition some people say that it depends on the size in GB on the iPad I have a 16GB white. Can anyone help me how long should I have my iPad for? Ohhh ya my iPad is running iOS 7.0.3 Thank You

No.  Once sn iOS version comes out that is not compatible with your hardware, you cannot, obviously, update iOS any longer.  However, your iPad running the last release of iOS compatible with it will continue to run that iOS release at the same speed it always did.
Nothing about any computer ever slows down with age - your cpu, RAM and storage all function at the same speed as they always did.  New software may add features that tax your system more than a newer system would be taxed, but nothing about your system changes just because the device ages.
At some point, our system simply is unable to update or run newer software because that newer or updated software requires hardware features that yours simply does not have.  But your exisiting software on your existing hardware will continue to run just as it always has.
As to when your system becomse unable to handle new software or iOS features, that is purely a matter of how quickly newer hardware comes out and how quickly software developers move to new features that your system cannot handle.
There is no inherent reason to believe that an iPad 4 will not be compatible with the next release of iOS - it might not be, but it may very well be.  Depends entirely on what changes the next release (whenever that may be) introduces, and what new device hardware Apple may be working on.

  • After updating to iOS 6 my iPod Touch 4th.Gen is virtually unusable ... does anyone know how to sue Apple since they gave no warning about iOS 6 being for iPad optimisation and a killer  for iPods ?

After updating to iOS 6 my iPod Touch 4th.Gen is virtually unusable ... does anyone know how to sue Apple since they gave no warning about iOS 6 being for iPad optimisation and a killer for iPods ?  Before I throw away my iPod Touch does anyone know if Apple intends to rectify their obnoxious disregard for iPod users by issuing another 'upgrade' which will allow iPods to work without the constant system crashes that iOS 6 has caused ?

Contact a lawyer if you want to sue.
    Otherwise try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Can't upgrade to IOS 7.0.2 on my IPad 4th Gen because the default prompt in software updates is for 7.0 !  Does anyone know how to force a 7.0.2 update? I certainly don't want to struggle with the original pre-fixes 7.0 version ... Txs. PT

Try updating it through iTunes on the computer instead of over wifi on your iPad

I have a ipad 4th gen with the lightning charging port. I have realised how long it takes to charge and the poor battery life which means I can't take my ipad anywhere. Is there a case that is available that will charge my ipad? I know they are out there for older iPads with the 30pin charger but I can't find one for the lighning 8pin charger.

I don't know what you mean by "poor battery life". If your iPad is working properly you should get 9-10 hours of life.

  • I have installed iOS7 on my ipad 4, now my ipad recognises PDF's emailed to me as jpegs and cannot save them into iBooks, any solutions? iPad (4th gen) Wi-Fi   Cellular (MM), iOS 7

I have installed iOS7 on my ipad 4, now my ipad recognises PDF's emailed to me as jpegs and cannot save them into iBooks, any solutions?
    iPad (4th gen) Wi-Fi + Cellular (MM), iOS 7

Adjusting the date or time didn't do anything for me either. I'm guessing my two options are to either do the full restore from scratch and not apply any backup ... Or possibly wait for an iOS update that might resolve this issue.
I'm not that much of an avid twitter user that I need it implemented natively in all my devices - so for now I'll probably value all my game save data, internal settings in apps e.t.c. over that functionality (or over the amount of work it would be to get me back to where I am now after a full wipe). I'll see what happens after the next iOS delta update. I'll reevaluate the full wipe after that if the issue hasn't been resolved

  • IOS 7 Major lag problem on iPad 4th gen.

two(2) questions that I need answers to:
1.) On iOS 6 the same animation was shown whether you used the home button or four finger pinched to go home. On iOS 7 using the button results in the stock animation which is fine, but the gesture results in a half closed application hang mess. This particular problem happens quite often. This is a problem that  I and other iPad 3rd and 4th generation users have noticed.  What is happening to Apple's iPads and what are they doing to fix this?
2.) Since I updated my iPad 4th gen. to iOS 7 Simple tasks like changing wallpaper takes 10 seconds , changing between tabs in settings is taking more than a few seconds. For me iOS 6 was much more smoother than the current iOS 7software. What is Apple trying to do about this?
Pls don't tell us that that we have to erase all content and settings. We shouldn't have to completely wipeout our devices to make the OS work right.
I can't believe Apple let these major problems slip right pass them.

You ought to address the questions you are demanding answers to to Apple. There are only other users here in these forums.

  • IPad 4th gen.16 GB

    Hello, everyone
I have an offer to buy used iPad 4th gen 16 GB. What I am interested in is next:
1: Is 16 GB model slower than others? (It shouldn't be but why not to ask)
2: Is there enough space to handle iWork and iLife applications and other 10 apps such as Dropbox, Skydrive, Logic Remote...??? I am asking this because I read that Retina apps take much more space than it was case with non-Retina apps.
    Thanks!

Who offered to sell you their ipad? Why are they selling it to you? - Very possibly to buy one with more space?
If that's the case. then that will tell you something. Can you trust that they have never dropped it or had other problems with it?
Also, a 16 gb ipad does not hold as much as you think and you do not start out with 16 gb. Some are used up by apps that are in the ipad when you buy it and cannot be removed. Always buy as much space as yoou need because you cannot increase it.
I don't know if it's slower, but new ios updates and therefore app updates, will take up more space as the apps update to keep up with the ios.
I saw your list above, but very often, once someone buys an ipad and learns all they can do with it, the list of apps will grow My husband thought 16 gb would be more than enough (knew nothing about what they can do - deals only with IT at office if problems with computers, and our younger son in college thought 32 gb would be plenty. We're all happy we went with the 64 gb, though I realize that for some the 16 gb or the 32 gb can be enough.
The only place I would buy a used ipad would be from the Apple refurbished store (on line only.)
If you think you're getting a $$ deal check out the Apple refurbished store. All ipads from there come with a new front and back cover, a brand new battery, and a full one year warranty, and they've been fully checked for issues. This person can give you the warranty, but it will only be good from the day it was bought from Apple.
The two ipad 2 64 gb we bought last year get lots of use and have been great. And it's great not to worry about space. (We waited to buy 32 gb when the 'new' now and quickly discontinued ipad came out, not thrilled with reviews but could not find new 32 or 64 gb anywhere when we decided. So for the first time we went refurb.)
Hope this helps. And enjoy whatever ipad you get.

  • Can a ipad 4th gen charger ruin a ipod touch

can a ipad 4th gen charger ruin a ipod touch? Device was plugged in to an ipad charger then failed during an update to IOS 601. went to a solid color screen and will only boot to the apple logo on a reset than returns to the solid color screen.

Try the following to get the iPod working.
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

You can try restoring the iPod. However, it could be that the battery is going bad.

  • Ipad 4th Gen not working at all

    Hi
I have an iPad 4th Generation WI-FI and I got it less than 2 years ago and now it doesn't work at all. I will explain a bit more about what happened to it in more detail below. So I was taking photos with it and after I was done I turned it off or as Apple call it "sleep", well I pressed the power button in other words like everyone does, right? Then in the evening I went to go on it and it was blank and wouldn't respond but in the morning it had about 30% battery but anyway it put it on charge using the Apple adaptor and I let it charge for like 30min but when it was charging it kept on showing the Apple logo every 20 seconds but wouldn't go past it. So when I took it off charge I tried holding the Power and Home buttons at the same time for about 20 sec and after about 3 to 4 tries it showed the restore iPad sign with the Lightning cable and the iTunes logo on top of it, so I plugged it into my computer and iTunes poped up and said something like:
iPad 4th Gen detected the device needs to be restored. (By the way my laptop is Win7 and had the latest iTunes on it) So I clicked the restore button and it said EXTRACTING SOFTWARE and after that the line stopped moving and a window came up saying: Unkown Error 4005 and 4013 and it took me to the Apple website and I did all the steps they told me to do and it didn't work and kept on saying the error thing. So I took it to an Apple store and the guy there said he waz restoring it and downloading new software for it and it ended up not workin for him either, but he told me there is nothing to do cause the 1 year warranty expired. Anyway now it doesn't show anything at all not even the restore logo, the apple logo nothing it completely blank and Ive had it on charge for like 2 hours. And I haven't dropped it or anything it doesn't have any physical damage or that. So yeah what should I do? Any suggestions will be appreciated

  • IPad 4th gen won't charge?

I have recently got an iPad 4th gen (3 with lightning charger).
Last night I was on youtube watching videos, when suddenly the screen went black.
I plugged it into the wall, pressed the on switch.. it turned on and it was 1%.
    So I let it charge overnight (12:45am - 11:30am)
I go down to see it and its STILL on 1%
I use the plug (12WATT) that was provided in the box, and also the cable provided
both seem to be working fine as it says my iPad is charging due to the lightning symbol in the corner next to the percentage..
but my iPad will not budge past 1%
I have tried the power button and home button reset... twice and it hasn't worked either time.
Does anyone have any ideas why?
And what should I do, because I really need to use it..?
Update : I plugged it into my laptop and it now says 'Not Charging' in the top right hand corner?

    Hi Moll.x,
If you are having difficulties charging your iPad, you may want to follow the directions listed in this article -
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1476
Note that the article title says iPhone & iPod touch but the same steps are relevant to the iPad -
If your battery doesn't charge, or if your device shows a low-battery image, black screen, or "accessory not supported" alert, follow these steps.
Inspect the connector at the bottom of the phone:
Make sure that there are no bent pins in the connector.
Make sure that the connector is free from debris.
If there are bent pins or debris, please contact Apple Support.
    Otherwise, continue troubleshooting.
Make sure that the outlet you're using works.
Make sure that the Apple USB cable and Apple USB power adapter work.
Plug the device in to power and let it charge until your device turns on. This could take between 10 and 30 minutes. If you don't have an Apple USB power adapter, try connecting to a computer's high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be on.
If the device still exhibits an issue, try turning your device off and then on again while connected to power.
If the issue persists, please contact Apple Support.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Brett L
