IOS 6, Netgear access point and Internet

Hi,
I’ve reached a point where I’m not entirely sure what to do next.
Here are some quick details (all are on most recent firmware unless stated):
Router: Draytek Vigor2830n
Access Point: Netgear WG102
Devices: iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPad 2 and two iPad 2’s for comparison on iOS 5.
So, all devices running iOS 6.1.3/4 will connect to the Netgear access point just fine, can browse the LAN / stream media from network shares but internet access seems to be 'delayed' and can take anywhere between a minute to 20 minutes to connect (I give up after this). In comparison both the iPad 2’s running iOS 5 will gain internet access immediately after connecting to the access point.
On the other hand, when connecting to the routers wireless on all devices it works flawlessly and internet connection is 'instant'.
Given the problems that Netgear wifi has had with iOS 6, which were supposedly ‘fixed’ in iOS 6.1, I’m not sure what to do. It’s definitely a software problem, and could well be something to do with the router (along with connecting to the access point and iOS 6), but I’m not sure what to start changing first. iOS 5 works fine, so what has changed in iOS 6 to break it?
Its not a security issue like before 6.1 and not being able to connect to the access point at all.
Basically:
- I either need to figure what in iOS 6 is causing this ‘delay’ and how to fix it
-Give up on the access point and buy a new one (seems a bit extreme given that every other devices works fine – iOS 5, blackberry, laptops etc).
-Wait for iOS 7, hopefully in the next couple of weeks and see if it fixes it, though I can find little information on this issue as it is, and nothing to suggest iOS 7 might help. Though if iOS 5 is fine, iOS 6 broke it and 6.1 slightly fixed it, maybe iOS 7 will cure it? Doubt it…but worth waiting a few days.
Anyone got any suggestions? I have been through all the usual (HTTP proxy, forget this network, reset network settings), nothing makes it work flawlessly like iOS 5 and the issue is the same on a wide spread of devices running iOS 6.

Dont know my routerand access point works fine. Try http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199 and make sure your setting are correct.

I can connect to the access point and it shows that I an connected to the internet.  However when I open a bowser it says page cannot be displayed!  Signal is very good to excellent.  Also, I have been using it all day and it was working fine, until I shutdown.  When I booted back up it stopped working.  The internet is working!  I have XBOX Live working right now.  Just not the computer.  Any Help would be appreciated.

Hi... it seems that your Wireless adapter on does get a IP address or DNS no after reboot. Try assigning a Static IP address and DNS on the Wireless Adapter. Also try to update the drivers for that wireless adapter.

  • WRT54Gv7 and 2 Netgear Access Points WG602

    Hi,
is it possible with a WLAN Broadband Router Linksys WRT54Gv7 and with 2 Netgear Access Points WG602 configure a Multi Point Bridging?
is it right that the WRT54G version 7 can not be upgraded to a own Firmware?
does the WRT54G version 7 supporting WDS?
    thank you very much.

the router can only be configured as an access point..it cannot be configured in repeater or bridge mode...
also , i don't think that it can be upgraded to a third party firmware ..

  • Use N95 as access point and get laptop inet throug...

Is it possible to use the N95 as an (WIFI) access point and use a laptop, a psp, an ipod touch to access the internet through 3G or even Turbo 3G?
That would be really really cool!
    Regards
    Raptor

I dont think it is as would have to be connected through a router to a phone line anyway. My psp doesn't even detect my N95. You would have to use it as a bluetooth modem and 3g.
Its not who i am underneath. But what i do that defines me.

  • Connected to access point but internet cannot be found????

router was working fine until it wasnt finding internet one nite and then it was unplugged so internet could be used on main computer and now when i try to plug everything back up to get wireless internet, it still says connected to access point but internet not found dont have a clue what is going on!?!

I think you were connecting to wireless router to access Internet, you need to have proper configuration on wireless router and wireless adapter to make it work, take a look on this wireless network setup tutorial to help you.

  • IMac as a wireless access point to internet

Hi anyone knows iMac as a access point to internet to use other gadgets

Check out System Preferences > Sharing > Internet Sharing
If your iMac is connected to your broadband modem with an Ethernet cable, you can share access to it via WiFi.
If your iMac is connected to your broadband modem with Airport Wifi, you can share access by plugging a device into the iMac via Ethernet cable.
So yes, you can share the access by Ethernet cable or WiFi, one or the other. Not both simultaneously.

  • Silly doubt abt access-points and bridges

hi all i have read cisco doc wherein clients connecting to access-points and also where the cisco access-point is working like a bridge and still clients can connect to it .
then any specific reason why people generally connect clients to access-points.
i mean is there any benefit of either method over the other.
any help and guidance would be really helpful.
    regards

In short, it is preferred to have users connect to access points.... 99% of the time. You can use a wireless bridge (that is associated to an AP) that is connected to a switch/hub to supply network connectivity to wired users off the switch/hub. There are also access points that can be used as a bridge for building point to point connectivity.
Look at the home users with wireless.... it allows then to move from place to place (as long as there is coverage) without having to be wired in.

  • Connection between lightweight access point and switch?

    Hello everybody,
I am a bit confused about cisco 1000 series access point connection. On wireless lan controller and lightweight access point basic configuration example document id 69719 (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6366/products_configuration_example09186a0080665cdf.shtml), I understood the access point has two vlans associated with (vlan 3 and 4). Am I correct?
Why is connection between access point and catalyst port just access port rather 802.1q trunk? How vlan traffic can traverse from the access point to controller?
    Please advice.
    Many thanks,
    Nitass

    Nitass,
The AP itself does not need to be a trunked port, but the uplink to the controller does. When using a Lightweight enviroment, all the traffic passes thru an encrypted LWAPP tunnel from the AP to the controller, and then gets sent out the correct VLAN interface on the controller.

  • Does iOS 6 remember access points by SSID and their associated Wi-Fi frequency?

Just trying to figure out how iOS 6.1.2 handles remembering SSID's and if it associates the frequency(2.4 or 5) to the SSID.  I work in a hospital setting. The place is littered with access points with the same SSID on 2.4ghz and 5ghz. There are places in the hospital where the Wi-Fi connection drops out on iOS but remains connected on my other device(android). If I go into settings, Wi Fi, the network is almost always visible but just seems to take forever to resolve, even in those places where it drops out its still visible. Any ideas on what might be causing iOS 6 (ipad mini) to resolve connections so slowly, is it something to do with the frequency or is it too many 'cute girls' to choose from i.e. too many overlapping SSID's in the same frequency.

The reset I wrote about was Settings-Reset-Erase All Content and Settings. Don't bother, I just did that and restored from backup. Still in exactly he same situation. Our iPad 1’s and iPhone 4’s running 5.1 appear to be fine and display everything including album covers.  I firmly believe its something in iOS 6 and/or iTunes. Either way, you'll keep knocking yourself out possibly to little avail in my opinion so this is my solution:
My iPad gen 3 is still under warrantee. I'll call Apple Support tomorrow, get a case number and ask them to call. I'm not sure if Apple has been working on this, been made aware of or ???  They keep so secretive about these types of things. I'll let you know what they tell me and keep you in the loop. If you do happen to discover a fix, please let me know. I don't know how busy support will be over the next day or two. We'll see.
I used to be quite a "fanboy" as you put it. We have an iMac, an iPad 1, two iPad 2`s, my iPad 3, and four iPhone 4’s. unfortunately, over the last year or so there has been a noticeable shift in employee attitudes in support and their stores. This surely filters down from above and along with human nature and believing they will always be better than the competition, it breeds arrogance and a shift away from the support of yesterday. I don't know if its because Jobs is no longer around or what, but it does exist. I broke from PC and windows six years ago. While I don't relish the hardware and app penalty of complete change, this update to iOS 6 is bad. Anyway, time will tell.
In the meanwhile, I'll be in touch.

  • Netgear access point

I have just purchased the new extreme. Set up was straight forward and is at all defaults. I cannot however retain connectivity with a Netgear Universal WIFI internet adapter. WNCE2001. This is being used to connect a device onto my network that does not have an internet card. The internet adaptor worked just fine with my old linksys network. Airport network gives it access (with a green light) and after some minutes it turns red showing no connectivity. Does the apple airport shift broadcast channels or prevent access to the network somehow. I cant find any appropriate settings to adjust to let this access point retain access to the network. It's a common device (often used for game systems etc) so i wonder if anyone else has come acress this problem and found a fix or knows whats going on. Thanks in advance.

You will need to change the default IP address of the Netgear WPN802 so that it is in the same subnet as the home hub.
The full details on how to do this are here http://kbserver.netgear.com/pdf/wpn_802_ref_manual.pdf
Look at page 23 and change the IP address in the Basic settings.
You could change it to 192.168.1.231 if you wish. It would still not show on the home hub because it is manually assigned. But it should work fine.
I have an additional Belkin wireless access point on my hub, which uses the address 192.168.1.200, and that works fine.

  • Connect Netgear access point to Home Hub?

    Before I switched to using a Home Hub 2, I was using a Netgear router/modem (DG834G).
And I also had a Netgear WPN802 access point connected to the DG834G router/modem (via ethernet cable), and this enabled me to connect to internet using wifi from another location in my house.  Just seemed to work.
But I can't seem to get this to work with the Home Hub.  When the access point is plugged in to the Home Hub, it doesn't seem to show up in the Devices part of the Home Hub, and I can't connect to the access point via its default IP address (192.168.0.231).  I can't see anything in the Home Hub to configure to make this work.  On the access point, the ethernet light is lit, which suggests that it can "see" something on the other end of the cable (and the light goes out when I unplug the other end from the Home Hub).
    Any hints?
    Thanks.

  • How to add a second router as access point and wifi signal extender

Previously I had 2 linksys routers and was able to configure them as one in separate areas of my house.  I think it is called cascading.  The 2nd router acted as an ethernet switch with 4 extra ports and it provided a wifi signal to areas of my house that previously had a weak signal when I used only one router.
I have since switched to an Airport Extreme as my main router.  I can't seem to get the same configuration with the linksys router, it is Model E1000 and has an "N" signal.  The Linksys E1000 I think is the newer model of the old WRT54G Linksys.  I can't get it configured to work.  I have searched high and low on the internet and can't find anything simple enough for a novice to understand.  I did read something that I may have to assign a "DHCP Reservation" on the Apple Extreme.  I couldn't figure that out.
Can somebody please offer some guidance on how to get this to work?
    Thanks

You have two routers producing two networks with the same name, so they will show up as two networks on any type of scan by a wireless utility. This is normal.
If you had used two Linksys devices, they would probably show up as one network, not two. Linksys has a feature that allows this to occur, but this is not true of Apple devices.
As long as the wireless network name, wireless security and password match up between the two routers, the two networks will behave as if they were one. As computers change location, they will automatically connect to the wireless access point with the strongest signal.

  • Using Netgear Access Point with Business Hub

    Dear all,
I am trying to set up a wireless network and am using a BT Business Hub 3.0 as the router + wireless transmitter in one area and a Netgear WG602 v.4 Access Point in another area of my home.
The Business Hub and the Netgear are connected via wire (Ethernet cable), with the Netgears purpose being to boost/relay a wireless connection to an area of my home which the Business Hub wireless signal cannot reach.
I am however having trouble connecting the two devices. Ideally I would like the Netgear to be configured so that computers connected to the Business Hub seamlessly connect to the Netgear when its signal strength is strongest without the need to enter a separate wireless key.
Hopefully that is clear however if anyone needs anything clarifying please don't hesitate to ask.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    andicd

    Thanks,
But the two units arn't plug and play are they? How do I go about paring the two units? I have accessed the Netgears IP settings, do these need to be changed in order to make it compatible to my network?
    I am following this guide - http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/WG602v4_IG_04June07.pdf
I am currently at 2b however am unsure what these settings for my network should be.

  • Compatible with Netgear Access point?

I plan to operate some wireless G security cameras with a netgear WG102 Access point with their optional 2.4 GHZ outdoor antena. I will also purchase a new airport extreme and a usb hub to share a printer a external drive from lacie.
Plan to hook the extreme to the access point via a crossover cable and the external antena will reach all the cameras up to 500 feet away.
Has anyone tried this and can the access point setup with the extreme?
I really wish the extreme had a optional external omni directional 9 dbi antena.

Your speed problems might not be problems at all. It might be due to the specifications of your access points. A normal G router runs 54 mbps wirelessly and a B access point runs at 11 mbps wirelessly.
And the brand new PC... where is it closest to? To the Netgear or the Linksys?
