IOS 6 on 3GS Dismal Battery Life

Since updating to iOS 6 last week, my 3GS has turned into a mess.  Battery life has gone from quite good to dismal. I have tried to figure out why the battery is going flat within just a few hours with minimal use, where on 5.1.1 it lasted for days.
Many of the so called features of iOS 6 have been stripped back to minimal or no value at all.  Maps does not include 3D on the 3GS and it is certainly not near as good as Google Maps was.  ViIP in email does not appear to work properly.  There are a myriad of other issues, but the main issue is battery life is absolutely a mess.
Can I move this back to 5.1.1?  Apple Genius said they could not revert it for me and would only offer to sell me a new 3GS which they say still has 5.1.1 on it, but I am not sure if that will allow me to get my applications on it and keep the old system software.  I tried to restore back to 5.1.1, but it would not allow me to go backwards.
iOS 6 is a mess on the 3GS.  Please offer help.  I really regret this update big time.

I have rebooted, tried to go back to 5.1.1 nothing works.  I would be happy to know if there are settings that have been reset so that I can keep the battery from running down so fast - it's really bad.  All mail is on manual pull not push.  I have turned off everything I know.  I do run bluetooth for my car, but that has not been killing the phone's battery before this upgrade.
Apple Store did do a diagnostics on it, but said battery and all is fine.  I can only say that iO6 is hogging resourses on the phone to the point it just burns the battery down really fast, probably 5-10 times faster than before.
Look, I understand it is an old model, but it worked perfectly fine on 5.1.1 and now it is a total mess.  I doubt highly Apple did any testing of this on the 3GS at all - its almost like we are the Beta testers.  Who knows, but it is really not good.  Now my latest issue is it does not see my SIM card as I must restart the phone to find it and even then, it loses it.
Someone at Apple has to be looking at this issue.  I cannot be alone.  It appears a larger number of 3GS users have posted various trouble on the internet.  I can only hope Apple does something and soon.

I restored my settings my I got the new phone but I think I heard that with the iOS 6 updated that can be an issue and it is better to start from scratch rather than restore your settings.

    reset all settings
settings- general- reset - reset all settings
    now reconnect to wifi
settings - wifi- click network name - enter password - join
if issue persists backup info and restore via itunes
    Peace, Clyde

No; they will not downgrade that device, and it’s highly unlikely that they have the same iPhone model running an older iOS version.

  • No connection to Wifi after upgrade to iOS 7.1 AND poor battery life

    Hi,
after upgrading my iPhone 4s to iOS to 7.1, I cannot connect to any Wifi anymore. Does anybody have an idea how to solve this issue?
Additional, I am wondering why battery life is much worse after the upgrade. I closed all apps via multitasking view. Nevertheless, battery is empty within a couple of hours. (before the upgrade, it lasted approx one day!!!)
    Any help is highly appreciated!
    Thanks!

After every iOS update there are reports of users experiencing faster than normal battery drain.  Most find that basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide resolves the issue.
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).
I am not having issues with battery drain on my device, it was at 50% around 2PM today, removed off the charger at 6:30AM and I'm a fairly heavy user of the device.

  • IOS 6.1.2 make battery life better for iphone 4?

I just updated my iPhone 4 16gb to ios 6.1.2 and the battery life has increased dramatically. From gettin less than 5 hours usage time on ios 6.0.1, I get 7+ on ios 6.1.2. I do not use no email servers just use safari to browse around, texting, few games and i use whatsapp constantly. I recommend upgrading to ios 6.1.2 if your are experiencing short battery life on the previous ios versions!

    Regarding
updates somehow add more space to an iPod or I phone 5
No, storage can't be added via an update. If you want more storage you need to get an iPod with more storage
And can voice memos be played on a doc
You can email the memo or sync it to a computer. Then you can insert it in a document like you insert any audio file.

  • IOS 5 fix not working battery Life not any better about 80% loss in 8 hours with no use

I updated my iPad with the 5.0.1 update, to fix my battery issues. This hasn't fixed anything, what to do. 80% battery life loss in 8 hours with nothing being used?

Have you checked all your settings to see if anything is running in the background e.g. location services, frequent email fetching, notifications etc - there are some tips on this page which might help, including doing a charge cycle (charging to 100%, running it down so that it powers off, and then charging back to 100%) : http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html
Also are then any apps on the taskbar that might still be active ? To close apps completely : from the home screen (i.e. not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of an app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
You could also try a reset and see if that makes any difference : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • IOS 5.0.1 increased battery life from 2 days to 3

I installed the new software on Friday night from a wired connection to the computer. The download and install took around 15 minutes. before the install I could go two days with out a charge. My phone was fully charged on Friday night at 10:00pm. Today is Monday at 8:41am and I still have 50% battery left. I have sent hundredes of text messages, stream hours of pandora, and watch multiple you tube videos. The only two things that I monitor are Wi-Fi when I'm away from home and closing apps. I also always drain my battery life to 1% before charging. If any one wants my setting to try just let me know.

After two days trying out the problem with my iPhone 4s battery - I had "reset all setting", set up WiFi again and disable all location completely, change the notification list. My Gmail account setting to push to off and manually get the emails. iCloud switch tooff.
I had drain the battery completely until iPhone is dead as requested - I had it off for about ten minutes before re charge fully for overnight. I noticed battery had drain rapidly during day if I use messages and emails.
The next day I had re-charged fully to 100%, then plugged it out and I had left it on stand by before I go bed. The following morning I noticed iphone 4S battery down to 84% the same.
It hadn’t makes any differences or am I missing something…

  • Why does the Battery life of my iPhone 4 doesn't last as long as it used to before updating my software to iOS 6? Can this problem be fixed?

    Hey there,
I have upgraded the iOS on my iPhone 4 to the iOS 6 and now my battery life doesn't last as long as it use to. I read something about Safari syncing some currupted bookmarks and whatnot. I basically need to know how could I fix this problem. I know that the iphone needs to have a decent perfomance regarding the battery life, since I've had it for less than 6 months now.
    Any help will be appreciated!

  • IOS 8.1.2 safari battery usage

Ever since updating to iOS 8.1, my iPad battery life has declined to the point that i have to recharge every day.
the only things i use my iPad for are safari, Facebook, google play books, stock music app, and youtube.
I've checked battery usage, and safari has 90 percent of the battery usage.
i have also factory reset the device, tried to keep screen brightness below 50 percent, and shut all apps, but that makes no difference.
i have also updated to iOS 8.1.2, and it made no difference.
am also considering a nexus 9

i have same problem, than battery percentage jump from 60 to 45 e in this way my problem is very bud. ios 8 last update is installed on my iphone 5. i think that it is a bug software, and i think this because i called apple support and diagnostic realt time with operator say that my battery life is better. and after home button bug fixed with ios 8.1 now i have this. this ios 8 is the worse update ever.

  • Battery life on IOS7: possible fix

After upgrading to iOS 7, many have reported battery life as an issue. After trying out all the usual suspects (location services, motion etc.) I plugged my iphone 4S into power, reset using the Home and Power button, and allowed the phone to restart and recharge fully.
It appears to be a battery calibration issue. Before doing this, I was losing 30% in an hour. At this time, the battery drain is down to iOS 6.1 levels and looking good.
If you've noticed your phone powering off even at 10-20%, this may help you as well.

  • 5.1 made my battery life do odd things.

Ok so on iOS 5.0. My battery life wasn't horrible it had days when it would drain like crazy and others it would last for atleast 2 days. On standby it would drain pretty bad.   but the app "system activity monitor" would read a correct battery life Everytime.
Now with 5.1 I swear its drains much Faster all the time EXCEPT in standby now. And S.A.M reads my battery level as much longer than usual and its just all wack.
I understand everything about how battery life is effected by settings and whatnot. I've tried changing almost every setting, doing every trick in the book and for me personally the only thing I notice is my phone sends ALOT of crash reports (enabled or not)
So my question is in my dignostic logs I see these 2 the most reported: "awdd" and "low memory" also when I load S.A.M I always notice "securityD" is always popping up and running.
What is awdd? And securityD? Anybody also have luck with changing some settings for better life too?

Also I'm ALL FOR any apple tech wanting to ask me questions or wanting to put software on my phone to help out in anyway! I would just like this to be fixed ASAP.

  • IPhone 3GS battery life iOS 6.0.1

I updated my iPhone 3GS to iOS 6.0.1 and my battery life has gotten terrible.  Use to get all day off a charge not it's dead in <6 hours.  Any fixes?

I have the same issue w/ my 4s.  My battery life was more than acceptable running iOS 6.  I updated to iOS 6.0.1 & now my battery life is HORRIBLE!!!  I just charged my phone & according to the usage, ie. Time Since Last Full Charge, was fully charged, yet it only said 94%.  I shut my phone off after unplugging it & when I turned it back on, the battery read 97%... ?????
There is definitely something that needs to be addressed w/ the 6.0.1 update!!  Really wish I hadn't gotten it!
