Ios 6 software bug causes icloud backup to fail

When I try to backup my ipad 2 and iphone 5 either manually or automatically when plugged and connected to wifi it says last back up could not be completed. I know it's a software bug because the icloud backup was working before I updated to ios 6 and now that I've updated to ios 6 it fails to backup on icloud plus I have 15GB icloud storage and it still won't back up. Also it's not a corrupted app because i turned all apps off the backup still doesnt work. Has anyone else experienced this after updating to ios 6.

If you get the error "Backup not successful" and you've tried deleting the last backup and trying to back up manually without luck, try the following test: Go to...
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap your device name in the Backups section, then look under Backup options. Turn off all apps from backup and then do a manual backup. If that doesn't work, then this post will not help. If the backup works, then go back to the app list and turn some on and try another backup. If successful, keep repeating these steps. If it fails at some point, then try to zero in on the one app that seems to make the backup fail. (I had this problem and found one app failing, probably due to a corrupt data file.)
This process will take time, but if a backup works with no app data being used but clearly fails with the original settings, then somewhere in the mix of apps is a "bad" one.

You can't delete the installed iOS firmware. What version are you currently running and do you want to update to iOS 7.0.4?
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 7.0.4. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.
You can no longer update to iOS 6.x, or down grade the iOS.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and antivirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.
How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
Go into the iPad's Settings.
Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.
 Cheers, Tom

• IOS 6.1.2 iCloud Backup

Earlier I made an iCloud Backup on my iOS 6.1.2. Later on, I updated my iOS 6.1.2 to iOS 7 Beta 6. And now I couldn't recover back iCloud Backup on windows. Please help! All of my text messages, whatsapp & other app messages are important to me. How to I recover iOS 6.1.2's back up?

Well, no. iOS is a beta and you can't do what you are attempting. Using your developer account, go to developer.apple.com to report the issue. Otherwise, assuming you are not a developer and you used a pirated version of version 7, the only thing you can do now is wait until the public version comes up sometime in the fall and install it. That will fix your problems.
Also check this thread that proclaims the dangers of installing iOS 7 when not a developer:

• IOS iphone 3GS update - sync/backup/update fail fix for frozen Iphone

Hi
downloaded new itunes 9.2, updated iPhone software.
Result: perma fail of apple logo with empty sync bar, nothing goes.
Fix:
essentially you need to to go and restore to factory setting twice with a step of restoring an old iPhone back up and after repeating the same procedure restoring to your latest back-up.
how to fix it step by step:
- disconnect iPhone from computer
- relaunch iPhone by holding down power & home button
- close and restart itunes
- reconnect iPhone
- watch closely when iPhone reappears, click immediately on restore (before it starts another freezing sync/back up session)
- restore factory settings
- when asked if you want to back up first, click yes
- when asked if you want to restore from backup after the factory settings restore - DO NOT CHOOSE the latest backup, restore from old pre-upgrade backup, even if its a year old (you will later do another restore, and than choose your latest back-up)
- restore iPhone successfully, turn on, use
- go back to itunes, connect iPhone again, click restore to factory settings again
- do NOT back up this time
- after restore, now use latest back up from before the restore to rebuild
result: all pictures, email settings, apps are back as they were pre-perma-freeze fail.

Read the above post but having difficulty - how to fix it step by step:
disconnect iPhone from computer
relaunch iPhone by holding down power & home button
close and restart itunes
reconnect iPhone
watch closely when iPhone reappears, click immediately on restore (before it starts another freezing sync/back up session)
restore factory settings
I can get this far but do not get this option! - when asked if you want to back up first, click yes
ONly get one type of restore option! Any ideas

• ICloud backups failing due to Safari bookmarks DB being locked

iCloud backups are failing to complete on my iPhone 4 (CDMA), iOS 5.0.1. I successfully completed a backup on November 9, but haven't been able to get a backup to complete since then. When I manually invoke the "Back Up Now" function, it starts backing up, then says "There was a problem completing the backup. Please try again later."
Looking in the console logs (below), it appears the problem is that the Safari bookmarks DB is locked (corrupted?). Indeed, I am unable to add additional bookmarks in Safari, I get the message: "Bookmarks are being synced. Please add the bookmark once syncing has completed."
I've tried restarting the iPhone to no avail; I've also looked at Apple's iCloud backup troubleshooting doc, and none of the cases there seemed to match this problem.
Any suggestions ar every much appreciated!

Had same problem, the solution lies with having your original apple ID associated email address "verified".
I may not have all the steps down correctly, but open your apple ID account manager and go to the your listing for email and "verify" the email address. This association then seems to allow the use of your email address when you are trying to set up this new apple ID that they are requiring for iCloud.
Be aware that this new apple ID has a far reach and apparently cannot be undone, that is you can't change the name, characters, numbers or whatever you have for an email address that becomes your apple ID---even if you can no longer use the email address to receive email.
Lots of luck.
I have been trying to get the iCloud features to work for over a week now, including a visit to a genius bar, and still not fully functioning.

• Unable to use iCloud Backup on iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 6.0.1

Hi, I have been unable to use iCloud Backup for several weeks on both my iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 6.0.1 & my iPhone 4, iOS 6.0.1
iCloud Backup is set to On on both devices. It did backup once or twice, since I installed the iOS 6.0.1, then it stopped working altogether.
I hope someone can help me.

I know. In my post I said ....
"remove the all day event or change the event from all day - in whatever application on your computer that you sync the calendar from and them sync again to remove the event from the iPad calendar."
You will need to do this from your computer. If you do not use your computer to sync with iTunes, you will not be able to get around this.
However, I should have asked of this only happens when you are trying to view events in March, so maybe I misled you. I apologize. Try this now. Quit the calendar app completely in the recents tray and reboot the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

• HT4623 IOS 8.02 WONT INSTALL BECAUSE ICLOUD BACKUP

can't install iOS 8.02 because iCloud backup restore not complete. Everything looks restored.

Hello mred3193,
You might put your iPhone in recovery mode, then update via iTunes. Once the update is complete, you may need to restore the device from your iCloud backup once more.
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

• I downloaded the new iOS software on my iPod touch 4th gen. Now it's saying connect to computer with iTunes, I only have a iPad I don't have a laptop is there any way to bypass this

I Downloaded the new iOS software on my iPod touch now when I turn it on it has a USB cord and says connect to computer and iTunes, well the only other

No. You have to connect the iPod to a computer and restore via iTunes.
For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Find a friend or go to an Apple store.

• TS3992 iCloud backup problem

when i try to do back with iCloud it always says The last backup could not be completed. Please help me with this issue

Backup not successful: I had the same problem.
The solution was to turn off some apps (Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap your device in the Backups section, then look under Backup options) and try a manual backup. If it didn't work, turn off a few more apps and try a backup. Keep doing that until the backup works. Then try adding in some of the last batch of apps that were previously turned off - the objective is to find the app that causes the backup to fail. For me, I suspect that the one app I found had a bad data file that, when included in the backup, caused the backup to quit.
This can be a long process if you have a lot of apps that you originally turned on for backups.

• Large iCloud backup size for some apps

Was poking around trying to get my backup down to size and noticed a few apps are major offenders:
Facebook - 28 MB
Words for Friends - 3.6 MB
Yelp 8.7 MB
NYC Mate - 68.3 MB
I'm not a programmer but it seems to me the only thing that should be getting backed up is perhaps my login credentials. This shouldn't be an enormous file that gets uploaded each night. One of those apps NYC Mate doesn't even have a login, so I wonder what it's sending to the cloud.
So, this is more of a curious gripe than a complaint. Should we be telling app developers to slim down what gets backed up each night in the interest of preserving bandwidth? Or is this a non-issue?

This needs to be addressed because you will not be able to use an incomplete backup. Not being able to back up to iCloud can be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is causing the backup to fail. To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, tap your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup. Then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app or something in your camera roll that is causing the backup to fail. To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again. If the backup is successful, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is causing the backup to fail and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again. If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again. If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails. Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

• When I backup from my iPhone via iCloud backup and for some reason it only completes half, then will it save the half completed backup

My iCloud backup only completes upto half steps(sometimes) so will it save the half completed backup in iCloud

• IPod touch stuck on iCloud Backup screen

Every so often a pop up tells me that I haven't back up my iPod in __ weeks. I don't get to connect it to a computer that often, so that's why.
It popped up today and I clicked OK so it would go away. But when I went to get on my iPod later, it was still there. It's there along with 'slide to unlock' , which I cannot do.I also can't power it down like I normally do. I read online that to fix this you'd have to hold both the top button and the home button at the same time to turn if off. My home button does not work and I've been using assistive touch. I've tried fixing my home button, but nothing has worked.
So my question is how do I fix this? I can't restart it. Should I just wait until it's out of juice and powers down by itself?

You can try:
- Connecting it to your computer and backup and restore via iTunes
For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
- Let the battery drain as you said.
