IOS 7.0.2 sent my iPod touch 5g into recovery mode

I just upgraded my iOS devices to the latest version. While all went fine on my iPad 4, my iPod touch 5g asked me to connect with iTunes after finishing the update, then forced me to perform a "factory restore", making me loswe all of my data.
I just wanted to inform fellow iPod touch users to wait before updating. You might lose valuable data!

You should always backup (to both iCloud and itunes before n update because glitches sometimes happen with updating

  • HT201263 iPod touch gone into recovery mode midway through updating to iOS 6.1 - Help!!!

I tried to update my iPod touch (latest generation) to the new iOS system. Midway through the 30 minute download of the new software, an alert popped up telling me that the ipod connected was in recovery mode and needed to be restored in order to contiue. So I clicked restore, and the download started again. Once again, the same thing happened midway through. The download continues, and at the end of it it just disappears and my iPod stays on the connect to itunes screen (the one with the usb lead and itunes symbol). I've tried everything on the apple support pages but have had no luck at all. I've only had the iPod for a month now and have had no problems with it up til now. I know there's often problems caused by updating, but after spending hours searcing online for a solution I've yet to find anyone with the same problem, and therefore no solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Maybe if you try restoring to a previous version first, and then restore from backup.
This may help you find out how to roll back to the previous version:

  • Why did my iPod touch go into recovery mode when updating to iOS 8.1 over the air???

I was updating my iPod touch (5th Generation) to iOS 8.1 over the air update option and my iPod goes into recovery mode...I hadn't backed it up in like 2 weeks and a lot happened in two weeks with photos and everything. I have yet to see if I get any of them back but why did this happen? I thought apples over the air update was reasonably easy and secure...?

Hey Haywards, There has been reported issues with updating iPods to iOS 8, one of which is updating with the cloud or through Wi-Fi. Your seeing one of the problems. After you get things cleared up with the DFU recovery, connect your iPod with your computer via the cable and run the update through iTunes. You should be OK. Or if still an option, don't do the update at all! Many have reported several issues with iOS 8 on iPods. Slow or laggy operation, missing apps, missing music, camera roll not working or missing and huge battery drain and charging issues, just to mention a few. You may want to hold off from updating if possible. Things to think about. Good luck, Cheers.

  • Why does my ipod touch go into recovery mode?

I recently got my new ipod touch. I had problems with my old one after I couldnt get that one out of recovery mode.
I tried to update my new ipod today and its been put into recovery mode. I've tried to restore it twice and its done nothing. I just need to get it out of recovery mod, can anyone help?

The only way I know of is to force it into DFU mode, out of recovery mode. Hold down power for 10 seconds, then the power and home until the screen flashes white, then hold the home button for four or five seconds. Proceed to restore.

  • My ipod touch went into Recovery Mode, How do i fix it without recovering(deleting)?

Earlier this week, i was on my laptop when i decided to look at my ipod touch with was next to me, about 10 mintues later. I tried turning on, and the ipod was stuck on the connect to itunes screen, and i was wondering why it was doing that. I plugged it into my computer and it said " Itunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes". Restoring was going to delete everything! I already lost my infomation last year to a similar problem. I tried holding the power and menu button for 10-15 sec and then just hold menu 2 secs, it didnt work. I know most people are going to say use a backup, but i havdn't been albe to back up for about 70 weeks. I know i can get back music, but i have a bunch of apps that have memory and pictures and songs, that i'll never get back, like last time. I don't want to lose important docunments again either! Please Help!!  ps. I dont remeber my oss or what version it is(like itouch 3 or 4s)

If this program will not get the iPod out of recovery mode you will have to restore the iPod and thus lose everything.

  • HT201263 When my ipod touch is in recovery mode, when i try to restore it, the itunes page says the website has timed out so it won't recover. Can anyone please help me?

When my ipod touch is in recovery mode (when I try to re-store it) the itunes page sayes the website has been timed out and so it won't re-store. There is a limited time, whilst restoring the ipod, it lasts for approx 5 mins, then asks to start again all over again. Can anyone please help me?

This device is not eligible for the requested build (Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194")
Update to the latest version of iTunes. Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) users may need to download iTunes 10.6.3.
Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

  • Ipod touch stuck in recovery mode and will not restore. error code 3194

ipod touch stuck in recovery mode, will not restore and comes up with error code 3194, itunes is up to date, please help

Hi @rchangel - Thanks for the ideas...
Yes - it won't let you install the 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine.
I've had a cursory look at the SP1 release notes, and couldn't spot anything vital - what critical stuff do you know of in SP1?
I don't want to have to go through all the pain of setting up VM's, reinstalling iTunes, getting all my album art back in etc. (though I could, as I do have Win7 pro). I've also heard that running iTunes in Windows 7 compatibility mode might help. Can anyone confirm whether that actually works?
I think it's in Apple's gift to fix this issue, given that they say that they support Windows 7. So far I've had no feedback from a mail I sent to Apple, and the number of users reporting this problem keeps going up and up.
I want Apple to recognise that there is a problem, and then I want them to fix it.

  • My iPod touch is in recovery mode, how do I get it out of this?

My daughter's iPod touch is in recovery mode (we know this by the code it gives us when she plugs it in to the computer), how do we get it out of this?  We have tried resetting by holding down the on/off button and the other button on the bottom front of the iPod for 30 seconds to a minute and nothing happens.

Two ways to get the iPod Touch out of recovery mode.
From iTunes click "Restore" this will download the latest iOS for your iPod Touch and install it.
Second way is to press and hold both the home button and the sleep button for around ten seconds and release them when the Apple logo shows on the screen.

  • My iPod Touch is in Recovery Mode and iTunes Won't Detect It ?

    iPod Touch 4G
    iOS 5.1
    Purchased 2010
I Opened Up iTunes and Upgraded to iOS 5.1.1 from 5.1 as a "Download Only". The Next Morning I Go To My Computer Plug In My iPod and Update. My iPod Then Goes into Recovery Mode and When I Quit Recovery mode It goes straight to recovery mode again with and without the cable. iTunes does not detect it when i plus it in and neither does my computer, i have tried restarting apple mobile support and that does not work. The nearest apple store is 20 miles but i could go there.

See if you can kick it out of recovery mode with RecBoot.

To restore from backup see the following. Restoring from backup does NOT restore your screen-lock passcode.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
