IOS 7.0.4 hides Contacts

I just updated to .4 and my iphine 5 crashed. Had to restore from icloud and got most items back but my contact list was placed in a folder. I slid it out but it then dissapeared. I can find it by double tapping the home button and it is below the minimized app windows but i can't seem to get it back onto one of the pages any ideas?

It can be placed anywhere you want. It is just put into a folder at the beginning. If you want to move it to an open page, then just place your finger on the icon and hold it until they start to wiggle. After that, put your finger back on the icon and drag it to where you want it. No problem at all. Once you are done moving things around, tap the home button to stop the wiggling.

This happened to me too but it was really all there. Go to your calendar, click on calendar in the upper left hand corner, click on show all calendars, click done in the right upper corner. Everything should show up!!!

You have to follow the process outlined here to recover contacts from an iCloud backup: Recovering deleted iCloud contacts from an iCloud backup.. Otherwise, as you have noticed, the recovered contacts are overwritten when your device reconnects to iCloud.

You should never lose contacts under any circumstances.
Although contacts are included with the iPhone's backup, contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book app on your computer where such important data should be available with or without an iPhone or any cell phone. Not a good idea to depend on a cell phone for such important data which can be lost or stolen or damaged beyond repair.
In addition, there are a number of free email accounts that support syncing contacts over the air including an iCloud account, Gmail, Yahoo, and Hotmail.
If you are not syncing contacts over the air with an iCloud account and not backing up your iPhone wirelessly with your iCloud account, your iPhone's backup is being updated by iTunes on your computer which is updated as the first step during the iTunes sync process.
With Windoze, contacts can be synced with Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 along with syncing calendar events, notes, and reminders, or with the address book app used by Outlook Express and by Windows Mail called Windows Contacts for syncing contacts only. With a Mac, contacts can be synced with the Address Book app. This is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
If the supported address book app on your computer is not used and has no contacts available, before the first sync for this data enter one contact in the supported address book app on your computer. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.

How to hide contact picture in current chat?

Hello I need to hide pictures in the contact chat like we could do in the previous version.
I could hide contact list pictures but can't do it on the chat window.
How can I do this?

The only option that I have found is:
Tool/option/General Configuration/Show profile pictures (perhaps the commands are different, sory my skype is in Spanish) with this your skype will show no pictures, is the only option available at this moment.

Within Contacts, tap Groups at top left. Make sure all contact groups are checked to show, then tap "Done" at top right.

IPhone 4 - iOS 5 upgrade - LOST ALL CONTACT DETAILS

I upgraded to iOS 5 and now I can't get to any of my contact details.
What I have -
The list of my contacts is displayed under the contacts option, but when I touch any contact name it takes me back to the home screen. Can't make any phone calls. But I can receive phone calls and the caller-id displays the correct name too. So my guess is the information is there somewhere, I just can't seem to find it or use it.
What I have tried so far -
1) Resynced contacts from the Info tab in iTunes. I get the following error msg - "iTunes couldnot sync contacts to the "iPhone" because contacts are being synced over-the-air
2) turned off sync over wi-fi from iTUnes. Tried syncing again. Same error message as above.
3) Tried going to "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" under settings, it takes me back to home screen. It displays the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" details screen for about half a second and takes me back to home screen.
4) Went to iCloud under settings and tried to turn off teh "Contacts" from there. It simplays doesn't turn off. I can turn off everything else listed under there, but contacts. No matter what I do, it stays on.
5) Signed into iCloud.com with my account. The contacts info there has only one contact listed (mine).
6) Tried to edit contact details from one of my recent text messages. Doesn't work. Takes me backto home screen.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this. At this point I can't even use the main function a phone should be performing, i.e. make calls from my stored contacts.

I had the same problem. Time Machine proved invaluable here. I opened up Address Book, selected "All Contacts", started up TIme Machine via Spotlight, and scrolled back to the day before I ran the 4.2.1 updater. Bada bing, all contacts restored to the address book! Simply did an iPhone sync after that and all was well again.
Still, nasty bug Apple. :-|

After updating to ios 6.1.2 my contacts only show facebook contacts. I know my contacts are there because I can text by name.

I updated my phone last night to ios 6.1.2. When a text came in I saw it only showed a number but no name. It was a friend that should be in my contacts list. I then checked my contacts and it only shows facebook friends with no phone numbers. I then tried to send a text to a friend by name and it linked the name to the correct number but then only showed the number on the text and not the name. How do I get all my contacts back? I have many professional contacts that I need during the week. I'm pretty sure they are still there but just hidden somewhere.

nope. I think the update erased the contacts. The update was for an exchange calendar bug. This may have affected my contacts. I use windows mail version for vista. It just seemed simple to read mail without setting up outlook. So I guess ordinarily I would just get them off the computer thru itunes but without a program to sync to I guess they are gone. Some are still there with phone numbers but I guess only facebook friends. What a mess. I guess they are all gone. I had originally thought that they would be backed up. Now I guess I am building two or three years of contacts again. Wish I'd kept my old phone. Would have been worth the money to just keep that as a back-up.

HELP ios 5.0.1 bug contacts

I currently have an iPhone 4s and of course the ios 5.0.0. was preinstalled with ATT network, with no real problems. I update this program Over the Air (OTA) with 5.0.1 and lost all my contacts and bad battery life now. I get my contacts from Yahoo! contacts and I no longer get these contacts on my phone. I tried everything and here is a list that I have tried.
1. Deleted my Yahoo account and reenabled it.... got nothing
2. Reset my network......got nothing
3. Contacted Apple........got nothing/no real solution
4. Tried to turn off and on contacts.....got nothing
5. Tried following steps what Yahoo recommends....got nothing
6. Turn the device on and off..... got nothing
Does anyone know what I should do to get my contacts from Yahoo again? Please help. Thanks.

Yes they are in the same location as before.
But anyway, I just managed to get the PDFs back on iBooks. As they were still showing up in iTunes on the ipod device, that meant they were there but not showing up in iBooks. So, I deselected all the files and re-synced to delete all the pdf data on the ipod. Then re-synced again to put all the same files back. And now it works!
So, for some reason the iBooks backup doesn't work with the new iOS update. And apparently the solution is to erase the old data and re-sync again!

IOS 5.1 Update Issue: Contacts exist, but do not appear with incoming call or text

Alrighty; I just purchased the iPhone 4s and last night was prompted to upgrade to IOS 5.1. After doing so, I noticed today any incoming calls from one of my contacts would not display the name (the number was displayed as if it was an unknown call). However, text messages displayed contact information. I was playing around with it and based on suggestions elsewhere I added a '1' before some numbers. Upon doing this, an incoming call would display the name of the caller but incoming texts would not. A call to support directed me to call Verizon (my carrier) for 'some sort of three digit code' which would correct the issue; alas, Verizon had no clue. I'm at a loss and any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Not only the Verizon version unfortunately. We have the same problem here in some parts of the Middle East. I have heard reports from Kuwait and Bahrain, and I'm located in Oman and the problem exists here as well. And no solution except downgrading the phone back to iOS 4.3.5.

Messaging problem on IOS 6 - messages fail when contacts have linkages

I don't know if anybody else is having this problem as well; I could not find anything particularly like this issue which is affecting me. Perhaps it's possible that others have experienced this problem and just used the workaround and not bother to notify Apple.
When IOS 6 linked up with Facebook it reimported all my facebook contacts into my contact list,which meaned that I had many duplicates of my contacts where I once had their original numbers in my contacts on the phone without the need of a new card, with facebook email address included and whatever it could obtain from FB. I found a solution online that you could then link your contacts to get around that issue, by clicking on the link button. You could then amalgamate those duplicate contacts (sometimes had 3 or 4 contacts for a single person).
A solution was needed because anytime you accessed your contacts to give someone a call, or send them a text, you'd have to flip through around 4 or 5 contacts at times to just get to the number .
Now I believe this is causing an SMS issue. If you go to your contact list, and select one of those contacts that have been 'grouped', and you select to message them, it sometimes brings up a completely fresh SMS window, without the history of SMS chats that you ordinarily have for that contact. This new message that you started is likely incorrectly pointing to the wrong details to make an SMS.
This is a ridiculous oversight and I am surprised that Apple hasn't caught onto this ?
Anyone else experienced this or know of a solution to this problem, other than searching through your message history and try to find a 'working SMS' with that contact ? Also I know you can probably delete that contact and just create a new contact for them. Surely this is something apple should have fixed by now ?

Firstly, apologies for the delayed response. Have been out of town with no access to internet, hence the delay.
To answer some of the questions posed here-
-This does not happen when I sent the text message to 4 or 5 people
-I have usually come across this scenario when I try to forward a message I have received to people in my contact list.
-Yes, each and every message is definitely sent to a mobile phone number and not to an email id
- When more than 10 people are selected it definitely changes to MMS and has shown the message size as 0.5kb (about 12 recipients)
- There is no option of 'text message' when options>sending options>message type is chosen once the message turns from text to MMS message, after more than 10 recipients are chosen.
-The message I tried to forward consisted of about 150 characters
Any help to get to the correct cause and find a solution would be greatly appreciated as I often forward a messages to a lot of people in my contacts list.

I upgraded to IOS 6.1 and my phone merged with both my daughters. After signinig all three phones out of my Apple ID, things went back to normal, except one of my daughters phones now has all my contacts. How do I get her just hers back?

It just does't sync. I connect it to itunes, but nothing happens. Where it says how much space I have, it's just on ebig bar that says other. I can play my music on itunes, but not when i unplug it.
All of my photos were gone, i took and saved them with my ipod.
The photo app is saying restoring.
What should i do?
