IOS 7.1 Battery Life Fix

I updated my iPhone 4S to iOS 7.1 and after a couple of weeks decided that the battery was draining faster than it used to.  Not some of the super fast 50% in an hour kind of drain, but I was not getting a full day out of it.
I did everything I could think of and tried all the fixes I found in these discussions with one exception that I will get to shortly.  I did resets, I shut down everything running in the background, I did full battery charge cycles, I shut of any Location Service that I didn't need, I set my email to manually fetch, etc. etc.
I was still seeing a fairly rapid drain on my battery.  So I decided to do a Reset All Settings reset and this seems to have helped.  I held off on this because it is annoying to have to go back in and reset all the settings I had already tweaked but it seems to have done the trick.  I can now get a full day out of my phone and don't have to sit with it plugged in to the charger everytime I get back to my desk.
So if you are having a slow battery drain, or even a fast one, I would recommend doing a Reset All Settings reset and see if it helps you.  It seems to have done the trick for me.

    what the &%*@ apple?
safe to say, this is my first iphone and last.

I would hope that "addressed" is a nice way of saying they fixed the bugs they introduced in earlier releases. I mean, if you address the situation without actually resolving it, what value is that?
If you didn't have a battery life issue in 5.0.1 and you now have one in 5.1, that's obviously disturbing. Since you're not near a Genius Bar, you can always try the standard routine:
    - Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings
    - Set up as a new phone and NOT restore from backup. Try running as a clean phone with no third-party apps and see if that makes a difference before restoring your apps.
If you check Settings -> General -> Usage what are the numbers? Does "Usage" have a high value you wouldn't expect?
Does the phone seem warm while it's not being used? That's indicative of a process that is running in a loop and draining battery even while you're not using it.

  • HT1476 ever since I upgraded to ios 7, the battery life is very short and I do not use my ipad all that much.l have been on the phone to apple 3 times, turning off all kinds of things I so not use and have powered off more than before but it is still poor

ever since I upgraded to ios 7, my battery life is very short. I do not use the ipad all that much and have to charge it twice as much as before. I have been on the phone to Apple 3 times and turned off a number of things that I am not using and now power it off more regularly but still not happy with battery life. It is less than a year old and as I said, I don' t use it all that much

My best bet would be to restore the phone. Back it up to itunes, and then reset it Factory settings. This way, any corrupt software will be removed, and you can start fresh. Make sure you back it up first. By the sounds of it, you are using the phone for business and probably need the data from it. Hope this helps!

After updating to iOS 6 my battery life of iPad 2 has reduced drastically..plz help..have tried all the standard solutions suggested in forums but doesn't help

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Ios 7.1 battery life drains fast

should improve battery life in ios 7.1 to last longer

My fix finally ended up being to change my ExchangeSync mail service to Pull and not Push. Battery life now resembles normalcy. Only need Apple to patch the iOS to remedy this problem. Please HURRY!!!

  • IOS 8.3 battery life

HI, I want to expous my angry about the recent upload of the iOS 8.3 softwear in my iPhone 6. iOS 8.3 it is killing my battery life with a normal using, actually I have been using my phone only 4 houre, and 2 of them it was in standby and my battery is 55%. I don't know what they fix or improve, but they ruin a battery that is "bad" in comparative with the others smartphones.
Plis find a solution/update to this softwear because I am sure that this isn't an individual problem, and it must be solve, because a phone with no battery life is just a paperwaght

here it does not look different. an insolence of apple, nothing more!

  • IOS 4 reduces battery life on my iPod touch 2nd Gen

Before I updated my iPod touch to iOS 4 my iPod touch could stay in sleep mode for weeks, but now with iOS 4 it can't last a day in sleep mode. I believe this is because iOS 4 keeps the WiFi on even when in sleep mode. In iPhone OS 3.1.3 the WiFi would turn off when in sleep mode, in iOS 4 Wifi is always on allowing my apps to look for notifications all the time and that is what I think is the problem. In iPhone OS 3.1.3 I could have Mail fetch new data every 15 minutes without impacting the battery life in any way. I tried doing the same in iOS 4 and the battery couldn't last 6 hours.
The problem with iOS 4 is that the WiFi is on at all times, even when it is in sleep mode, something Apple needs to fix in the next update.

The answer, I regret to say, can be found in [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11987618#11987618|Th e sad truth about iPod/iPhone battery life].
It basically boils down to using iTunes to perform the "Restore" to factory settings.
The fact of the matter is that it could be WiFi, Notifications, multi-tasking (even if 2nd Gen iPods do support it) or a thousand other things. The only thing I can save for sure is that there are deep, system level settings that are either corrupt or, most likely, obsolete. Settings that vary so widely from user to user that the only one can be certain that they have all been eliminated is to flush them all and start over.
Not a very scientific solution, but an effective one.
If you find this suggestion ludicrous and unreasonable, feel free to read my other posts on the topic. You'll find me to be a confederate.

  • With the new iOS 7 - how do you turn off previously viewed app's like the previous iOS to save battery life?

Before I updated to the new iOS - I was able to turn off app's by tapping the bottom button twice and then placing and holding my finger on the app - I can't do that with the new OS and it quickly wastes battery life.  What can I do?

Double click on the Home button. Swipe left-right to view the previously opened apps. Swipe UP to close them.

  • IOS 7 affected battery life

My battery life was affected after IOS 7 update.  Any ideas

OK, some of the things in iOS 7 default to on, so you might want to run through the settings and turn off things that might be causing this drain on your battery.  Also, when you start using a new iOS version, the usual thing is to use your phone more or less constantly, so you just might be draining the battery by trying new things.  Give it a week, and see if it is better, but DO check to make sure battery draining things aren't on that you don't need.

  • Macbook Pro Retina battery life fix

My machine came with Mountain Lion 10.8.2 a few weeks ago. When battery was charged to 100%, I had about 2,5 hours of battery time remaining (as showed when clicking the battery icon on top of the screen). I did the procedure below and now I have between 5 and 7 hours. I'm yet to test the real life battery time.
Another user wrote that the problem is said to be created by a corrupt file created by Migration Assistant and that the file needed to be removed through the procedure below. Interestingly enough, I didn’t use Migration Assistant when setting up my machine (I think I opened Migration Assistant at one point just to check it out, but I didn’t use it to transfer any files or settings). Also, after doing the procedure, the file was still there, however with today’s date. Nevertheless it seems to have worked very well for me, so it may be a good idea to try the procedure even if you have never used Migration Assistant.
Before doing the procedure, I took a copy of the file in case I later would regret deleting it and want to restore it. Open Finder. While holding down the Alt key click on the Go menu and select Library (if you don’t hold down the Alt key, Library won’t show on the menu). From the Library folder, open the Preferences folder. Then copy (but in my opinion don’t remove) the file com.apple.desktop.plist to another place that you can remember. It might be a good idea not to delete this file directly from Finder, since after I had completed the procedure, the file was still to be found in the Preferences folder (with today’s date).
    The procedure:
In this procedure, leave out all quote marks “ “
Open Terminal (by going to the Applications folder and from there the Utilities folder and from there opening Terminal).
On the keyboard type  “cd ~/Library/Preferences/” and hit Enter.
Now type “rm com.apple.desktop.plist” and hit Enter again.
Finally, type “killall Dock” and hit Enter.
After doing this I restarted my machine and let the battery go down to 0 % in order to then charge it up to 100 %.
    Kristoffer

    Did this work for you?
Why do all the reviews out there (MacWorld, Engadget, etc.) claim they have 7 hours and we all end up with 2-4 hours.  I think all the media is focused on selling products for Apple and do no really do any testing of their own.
Shame that even the guy who sold me this laptop 4 days ago claimed that I should get 6-7 hours of battery life and all I have seen so far is 2 maybe 3 hours at most.

  • Battery Life fix (sort of)

I have an iPhone 4 with the latest OS. I also have 2 New Trent battery cases - one that no longer holds a charge and the other that I use regularly.
This last week, I had to go without the battery case. I immediately began having the same battery issues everyone else is complaining of. The phone would run out of battery at 6-8 hours with minimal use.
As a test, I fully recharged my phone and plugged the phone into the battery pack that does not hold a charge. I immediately saw my battery life go back to 2-3 days before charging. I then took the case back off and saw my battery drain. I did not do a re-install or make any other changes to any settings.
In reading through the other big thread started by scarface, I noticed a few other comments from people using battery cases that also indicated no battery problems while using a case.
My theory is that there may be a software bug related to the docking port that is causing the drain. It's suspicious to me that everything works fine with the case and drains the battery if I don't.
I hope this gives the Apple engineers a starting place since it's easily recreatable.

Restore the phone as new from iTunes then resync your information.

  • IOS 7.1 Battery-Reset fix

Anyone else having this issue-Charge all night and as soon as it is unplugged the battery indicator drops a few % with minimal use.  I restart the phone by doing the home button/power button hold until it restarts.  Battery jumps up 3%-5% as charged and pretty much is solid the whole day.  If I do not reset then the drain is quick.
I did a complete restore via itunes on the 7.1 update and do not have much on the phone. I am contacting apple support to log the issue but if anyone else has this problem maybe we can figure out what would get stuck after a charge to drain the battery and why the reboot always corrects it.  Possible bug issue?  Seems like apple could figure out that one quick if so but we have to let them know.
All in all I am happy with 7.1 and other than that weird aspect my phone finally lasts all day and workd fine.
    thx

That did nothing except have me go in and reset all of my settings back to the non battery draining settings.  I am having now worse drain, it went from 92%-86% in 5 minutes time while adjusting the settings.  Big mistake doing that and I was wary as that same thing happened after the IOS 7.0.6 update and I reset settings on someones advise.
I will call apple and see what they can tell me.  I hope its an update they fix fast and my phone can adjust back to where it was or I'll be back to wiping it and starting over again which is garbage to have to do..

  • Does turning on AssistiveTouch in iOS negatively impact battery life?

I'd also like to know how to enable the "Always Show Menu" toggle.

  • Is the battery life back to normal on iOS 6.1.3 with the iPhone 5?

Hello all, was just wondering what with the new update iOS 6.1.3 for the iPhone 5, is the battery life back to normal? I am still on iOS 6.0.1 because after all the bad things about battery life i heard with 6.1 and subsequent upgrades i just decided to stay on 6.0.1. I am really nervous to upgrade to 6.1.3. Is the battery life fixed?
    Thanks

Thanks everyone... I think i will upgrade and see how it goes, i cant stay on one OS forever... I too, on my 4S before i got the 5, had 5.0, then 5.1, 5.1.1, 6.0, and so on til i got the 5, which came with 6.0.1, i just stayed there... I have never had battery issues with any of my iPhones. If i do, i have the warranty so i will go to apple store and they will fix it.
