After growing to hate ios7's incompatibility with my 4s, i upgraded to a droid..GN3....8 days later i returned the dreaded droid defeated i walked out with my 5s....that same day i updated to IOS7.1, ......problems right out of the gate.....several install errors and 3 hrs later finally updated my brand new 5s...now half my apps are gone from icloud, .....from apps store and numerous issues with my ipad (also updated) the most troubling is i no longer have to verify my password in the apps store? (Dangerous i have a 5 yr old!)....i attempted to purchase an app and the username/enter itunes password window opened it displayed my itunes username as one i used once 8-9 yrs ago.......(no its not at all on my account information, registration, there is no way that old username could be associated with any of my current devices) .....i hit cancel expecting the window to reappear empty so i could identify my account but it skipped right over that.......additionally the app ii wanted to write a review on doesn't show up at all in my app..on ANY device, a handful of annoying features now missing..(like touchscreen expand)...i noticed most of the apps (travel apps) in the store have no rating even though I'm filtering "top rated"...no rating, no reviews..........maybe i just need a nap!!!

I also noticed the dark grey addition at the bottom of the screen. I am definitely not a fan. Is there an option to turn this off, or change to semi-transparent background, as it was before updating to iOS 7.1? Same goes for app folders, which now sport this dark grey background

IPhone 6/iOS 8 email issues with wifi connection

I have just upgraded from an iPhone 4 (iOS 7) to an iPhone 6 (iOS 8) and am having an issue with my pop email account. I used my iPhone 4 backup to set up new iPhone, so all the settings were as they were in my old phone. I have two email accounts, one is an IMAP account and the other is a POP account (which is my main email), I have no problems connecting to the server and downloading emails when connected via 4G (its super fast), but when I am connected via wifi, the POP account takes ages to connect to the server and check for emails (stuck on checking for email). I can speed up the process by closing mail app completely and reopening, then it checks and downloads really quickly (IMAP account has no problems), but this is frankly a pain.
I have spent ages on the phone with Apple support, who have got me to delete my POP email account twice, reset network settings, reset the phone using on/off button and home button, all to no avail. They are intent on telling me it's my email service providers fault, but as I pointed out there is no issue on 4G and my old iPhone (using iOS 7) on wifi has no issues, so can't be email provider. I have also tried using Apple's wifi in store to rule out router issue and the problem happened there too.
Have now run out of suggestions and options. I'm not sure if it's the phone itself, either a hardware or software issue (Apple support think not). Someone told me that it could be the wifi on my phone blocking the connection to the server. I have an appointment booked at the genius brand they have suggested wiping the phone and setting up as a new phone to see if the problem occurs, but this seems a bit drastic and I would lose all messages etc. Any help would be appreciated.

I have solved the issue! I tried my pop account on other devices with iOS 8 and the same thing happened, so I deduced that the issue is a glitch in iOS 8 with wifi and pop accounts. I managed to get hold of the IMAP settings for my email provider and all seems to be well. Happy days!

Address Book Server and iOS Default Account Issue

I have a really strange issue with a Lion Server. 10.7.5
There are several user accounts on the machine some are local, some are OD accounts. For the most part they work just fine.
Mail and Calendar accounts seem to be ok and indeed when you set up the Address book account this also work and syncs in both directions.
Here is the odd issue: For certain accounts, iOS devices do not seem to register them to be available to set as default. The device can use them properly, they do sync fine, if you hit 'import SIM contacts' they will show up as options to choose as the destination account, but if you have iCloud and another contact account set up, they do not show up as options to be chosen as the default contacts account. If they are the only contact accounts, then the 'Set Default Account' option does not even appear in the Mail, Contacts, Calendars settings under Contacts. It appears fine under Calendars and Mail.
When I installed more than one of the 'faulty' accounts on a single iOS device, then deactivated all but one, the Default Account option reappeared (there was also an iCloud account present), but it soon disappears on its own.
Has anyone seen this before?
I'm at a bit of a loss.

You should see a "CardDAV" option in the AccountType popup in AddressBook.app. That is what you need to select to use AddressBook Server on OS X 10.6.

How do I get Apple to pay attention to IOS Mail Signature Issues?!!!!!

OK, so I know this has been answered a number of times before and I have posted this at the request of senior advisors at Apple Customer Service who are also fed up with people complaining about the lack of basic functionality with IOS Signatures.
So the issue for me is that, with IOS8 Apple introduced continuity. I can sit on my MacBook Air in the lounge, my phone on charge in another room, and genius, I can take a phone call right from my Mac. Perhaps the cynic in me thinks this was designed for the American market and those too bone idol to get of their fat A***'s and answer their phone (Hey every calorie counts after all). But what I continue to fail to get is why I can have a beautiful, Professional signature on my MacBook Air. I have a JPEG of my signature, my details, Facebook and linked in Logo's. It looks very good and often people ask me how I did that!!! But when I am out and i want to send an e-mail from my iPad Mini w Retina or iPhone 5s. Apple think that I don't need that professional signature and that basic text will do! Apple, it won't, its a basic function and you need to do something about it!!!
This has been a common complaint and oversight from Apple since the original iPhone.
I have to wait to get home to send a business e-mail from my Mac using the signature. I can cut an paste the signature from an e-mail, it works for 1 or 2 e-mails and then reverts to replacing the images with little grey boxes. I have tried all the workarounds, spend hours, probably days trying to do this and the same result overtime. Clearly Mail can send jpeg, gif, bmp etc.... just not as a signature through the settings menu. This must be a simple fix!!!
I have come to the conclusion that:
1/. Tim Cook and the executives at Apple do not use iPads for business use, or this would have irritated them and it would have been resolved. Surely while they are jetting around the world promoting the generally useless Apple Watch they would have noticed this problem?!
2/. Or Tim Cook and his gang do not use iPads!!!!!!
So Apple, please, Please, PLEASE fix some of these basics... PDF management in IOS, iCloud management on IOS and let us have more than simple text signatures in Mail in IOS. Its a basic, necessary business function!!!!!!!
These little things have stopped me upgrading the iPad and iPhone and like others I know who were Apple loyalists and promoted the virtues of Apple products, we now consider other options, with basic functionality. Stop chasing the next major release and give us the basic functionality.
Please if you know a way of doing this that works time and time again that doesn't mean opening an old e-mail and pasting every time I send an e-mail, let me know...

Iphone 5 / iOS 6 IMAP issues

This is a strange one, however I see many people are reporting similar issues.
I just received my iPhone 5 last night and I'm unable to access my primary email accounts on the device via IMAP. After entering and deleting my email account multiple, tried with SSL (how I normally do it) and without SSL, etc... it continues to tell me that I'm entering the wrong username and password. (which I'm possitive is correct as I'm able to log in via webmail with no issues.)
My email accounts are run through a cpanel server, I've alternated between courier and dovecot on the server, no change. Mail logs on the server are showing that I'm getting to the server, my AT&T IP, etc... and that the password is being rejected. I'm wondering if it's doing something which the characters of the password when it trys to pass it to the server.
One addtional note, my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 both updated to iOS 6 on Sept 19th with no problems, IMAP is working normally on those devices. The issue is on my iPhone 5 only.
Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem today with my iPhone5 and the upgrade to IOS 6.1 over my wireless network. The phone clearly saw the network, just wouldn't accept my password (which I verified in my keychain on my laptop). I reset the network on the phone per other posts, turned Airplane mode on and off, restored my phone. Still no luck. Then I went into my home office and held the phone right next to my airport extreme, and it finally took my password. Now its connected, with same strong signal it always had throughout my house. No idea why that worked but not arguing! Hope that helps.

Dear Apple,
Thank you very much for an extraordinary Apple experience during my last almost 5 years.
I’m an Apple fan, starting with 2008 when I’ve entered Apple iPhone family with my first 2G terminal.
Today, I do own and currently use Apple products in my day-by-day activity as well at home.
Your development, since my first iPhone device (first generation iPhone -2G), represents for me an astonishing journey through everything your company has offered in line of devices and software. Today in my family are been used by me nad my family an iPhone 4s, an iPhone 5s, an nano-iPod, an iPad 2 generation, and a MacBook, devices which are extremely reliable and current updated to the last software version Apple had issued for each as applicable.
My bitterness comes from an unwanted experience I have encountered with my 4S on iOS 8.1. I am profound unhappy of the actual disruptions in usage on the basis of un-adaptation and non-fluent operation of my 4S. iOS 8.1 was presented and it should be the step-forward for such devices but, instead, it is only a great “pain”. Apps are closing unattended, the fluency of the operation is so lagged, and functionality has a lot to suffer in this line.
I've made the transition to iOS 8.1 as recommended by professionals and after taking into view and applying all what your engineers and specialists have recommended. Thoroughly I respected letter-by-letter the given indications referring update. And later, after not being satisfied with the newly issues development, I restored three times my device in regard of obtaining that new-breath which was presented during Keynotes and your support service. Still, without any success.
Therefore I had visited Apple local service for a full diagnostics upon my iPhone. Their test came all OK, but without any improvement in general usage on iOS 8.1. Same problems and operation issues are present. I do mention that before, using iOS 7.1.2 none of these above-mentioned issues were appearing.
I’m sorry but I cannot take the step-forward to buy a new 5S nor a newer 6 in order to get rid of these “creepy” problems, due the cost of such terminals on local market in Romania, costs that I cannot afford for few next months. So, hereby I’m kindly asking you to help me, and all of other unsatisfied users of such iPhone 4S terminals, to be able to restore our devices to an early iOS 7.1.2. Or else, to solve somehow, as fast as possible, in a later iOS 8.1.x version of all those impediments we’re hitting ourselves these days after update.
It is extremely hard and frustrating not to be able to use at a designated and well-defined high-level scale of a fully functional device, because operating system or programming-issues, or because the hardware cannot fully comply with the actual needs of a new developed operating system. OS designed for to be used with anything starting with 4S and above, too. I’m writing this letter for to point out to your attention that this is really happening and, due to my humble opinion, all this particularities does not concur to the gained positive image and professionalism which Apple has built and demonstrated in all the past years.

Ios 7 wifi issues with iphone 5 and iphone 4s

I downloaded and installed ios 7 on 3 iphones and an ipad on Thursday. initially after install all devices wouldn't connect to my homes wifi (but other devices in the home are connected and can access the internet with no issue) I rebooted each device and was able to connect problem soved. WRONG this has been an on going issue, most of the time my devices wont even see my wifi network and when they do, I still can't connect. I have reset wifi settings, I have double checked passwords, I have rebooted the IOS devices and rebooted the router (which was likely not needed as my 2 apple tv's, windows 7 laptop, windows 8 laptop and 2 imacs all are connected with no problem as wel as my ps3, and sony smart tv.
So, 1) is anyone else experiencing this issue 2) have you found a way to resolve the issue 3) has anyone gotten a response from apple support i.e. is this s known issue and are they working on an update to resolve.
I guess my gut instinct to wait a few weeks to install ios was right and I should have listened to my gut

I agree, Bluetooth is rubbish since 4.2 The phone won't connect properly with my carkit Parrot ck3000 evolution, when the iPhone 4 connects to the the carkit it resets the volume on the carkit to minimum volume. so every time you get in the car you have to manually set the volume!. fix this Apple and when your at it fix the wifi reception on it too its woeful! For all the mouthing Apple does on their features on the phone, it's pretty weak as a phone!

When i try to connect via HTTP from the cordova project "logondemo" everything works fine, when i switch to HTTPS, i have this issue on the cordova project... CFNetwork SSLHandshake failed (-9807)
I tested the connection via the REST API Client App from Google Chrome and i had no problem, it seems that this is an IOS 7 Issue...

I assume that the issue might be related to missing certificate in the device do to a HTTPS request. To make a HTTPS request a certificate is needed. This thread might give more information,Re: SMP 3.0 Kapsel Development in HANA Cloud

IOS 5 Photo Issues

So, after the upgrade to iOS 5, I'm having a million issues with my photos. It's as if my iPad (and my iPhone and iPod touch) won't recognize the 15,000+ pictures I have in various folders. It will recognize a few and then sync, but it wound up giving me blank albums, the photos are out of order or in different folders. I'm at the end of my rope and I'm hoping someone can help. (and yes, I deleted the photo cache; that just seemed to make it work)

To me it seems that the ordering is only broken in album/folders that were imported. If you create any new album on your device, sorting is as with iOS 4 (by date/time)
This gives an easy way (workaround) to have photos be sorted the old way with iOS5:
Import all your photos via iTunes. They will be in wrong order in the imported folders/album(s).
Create a new album
Copy all photos into the new album. (You end up with two albums with the same content. As the pictures are linked only into the second album, this should not use any extra space)
The new album contains photos in the right order.
Never use the old album, just irgnore it. Once Appple fixes the stupid bug, you may remove the album you manually created.

Ios 5.1 issue - why have the music controls been disabled when iphone is docked?

I just updated my iphone 4s yesterday, and immediately I have a huge problem.
When I dock the phone in my car (using a Denison dock) OR connect it via bluetooth to my car stereo, all of the music controls are locked!
The Music App becomes a white screen with "device connected" written on it, and there is no way for me to play/pause/skip/browse music on the handset.
Even double-clicking the home button, the audio controls are greyed-out and don't function.
I am furious about this, why break something that was working perfectly before? It's not for safety reasons because the iphone is happy for any other app to be used while docked. I use my iphone in the car all the time, and it is utterly USELESS if I can't use the Music app normally.
I have tested with docks at home, and this issue seems to occur only when the connected device can also control the iphone. I need to stress that no car controls can allow easy use of the Music app - it means you have to take the device off the dock to make any changes in what you're listening to.
PLEASE can this go back to the way it was!?

Found another post with a similar issue after upgrading to ios 5 and this worked for him, I might try this tonight and will re-post if it worked for ios 5.1:
1)Connect phone
2)Hightlight your phone on the left side of the iTunes window
3)Click on the music tab towards the top middle of the iTunes window
4)Uncheck "sync music"
5) Click "Apply" down on the bottom right At either this step or the preceding step you might get a
pop up box that says "you have made changes" or something like that, click okay or apply.
6)After this is finished, check to make sure there is no music left on your iPhone by double clicking on your
iPhone in the left hand pane of iTunes and then click on "music" under your iPhone
7)If there is no music on your iPhone, then recheck the "sync music" and then click "apply" down in the
bottom righ.
8)If you have a lot of music it will take hours to sync, but when finished your Dock accesorries should work again.

Upgrading iPad2 to iOS 5 - Any issues?

Hello - I've been slow to update my iPad2 to iOS 5 since I had some issues with the last iOS update. Anyone experience any major issues that you would like to share?

I have found an issue. I am developing a website with embeded youtube videos using the standard iframe embed recommened on the youtube website. In iOS4 iphone and ipad videos play without issue, BUT on ipad iOS5 (I have not tested iPhone iOS5) the videos do NOT play at all. Once it took me to m.youtube but generally nothing happening is the videos are tapped. Please help!

3gs ios 5 activation issues

I have a 3gs running IOS 5 on AT&T. I recently resotred the phone to factory defaults and I'm going through the IOS 5 setup. Activation fails as the phone is not recognizing the sim card.
I have been unable activate via itunes or over the air.
Any suggestions?

I had the exact same problem. Phone worked perfectly fine on previous firmware. Carried out the update and couldn't get passed activation screen due to it not recognizing my sim card. I tried a number of times but had no luck.
I logged into Apple support and went through the fault and ended up being rung by one of their team. They advised me to again, carry out the update and to try it all again. Nothing. Exact same results. Gave them a call back and spoke to somebody else after giving them my reference number, and was told the fault obviously lay at their end.
They then informed me that my phone still had 72 days of harware warranty on it (even though its a 2nd hand phone) and told me that a repair would be free.
AWAY IT WENT!!!!!
BUT......................
Today I receive an email to say that it will not be repaired as the repair it requires would cost more than the value of the phone! ***? Surely if the phone worked perfectly on previous firmware and fails on update then it is their issue. Nobody at any point during my conversations or emails with Apple staff had told me that this would be a possible outcome. I was told it would be repaired or replaced. My advice, get in touch with them directly. I've now seen hundreds of people having this issue and Apple obviously know about it but will most likely deny any knowledge of any faults.
I will be calling them tomorrow to take it further (with all my manors in place and a cool head) but if I dont get any real answers or results I feel a call to Watchdog or such agencies may be needed. I'll try and inform you of my progress.

IOS 8 only issue 3G toggle missin

I had to downgrade to 7.1.2 just because of one reason that 3G toggle switch is not there in IOS 8 ,please sir release an update with 3G toggle, because in india LTE doesnt work, and with 3G there is network issues and battery drainage.
I am afraid that if this issue persists many of us wont be able to enjoy IOS 8. I am a great fan of apple, so please i request an update with 3G toggle

HT4972 iOS 5.1 issue w/ camera

i updated to iOS 5.1 on iphone 4s -
when I try to open my camera from aps, it opens to a closed shutter and does not unlock
I've tried to reboot, restart everything, but camera will not work

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). If all of this has been tried but the issue still exists then it is time to take the device to Apple for evaluation.
