Ios 7 apps refresh

Why is it when I am multi-tasking between apps that when going back to an app like safari the page will reload. I was checking out on a web page shopping cart and went to my email for a second and when I came back to safari by double click home button and select safari the page refreshed and I had to start over with the purchase. This also happens when just visiting standard pages.  I have ios 7.02 11a501.
I have noticed others apps doing the same type thing such as Dropbox. When viewing a PDF switch between apps and back the PDF will reload and you are returned to the top of the document. Please help!

I'm getting very irritated by this issue also! It's driving me crazy! Because I'll be playing a game and get interrupted by a phone call or text that I have to respond, and when I come back to the game it refreshed and I lose my life!! In the older iOS versions, I was able to switch between the apps with no problem, and it only refreshed if left unattended for too long! I didn't find a lot of discussions on this so I don't know if apple is going to fix it or not. Maybe they think this is not an issue at all? This is so disappointing to me along with all the other problems that I'm having, I'm seriously considering switching to android.

  • In iOS 7, apps refresh themselves when switching back to them

I often work with one app and switch to another app, then return to the original.  After upgrading to iOS 7, it seems that apps (or web pages in Safari) now sometimes refresh or reload themselves when I switch back to them rather than simply presenting me with what I had before.  It's not a behavior I like. For instance, say I'm looking at a photo in my photo app Photo Manager Pro.  I switch to another app, then when I come back, Photo Manager Pro seems to reload itself and starts all over at its splash screen, so it takes extra tapping to get back to the picture I was looking at.  And Safari sometimes refreshes web pages when you return to Safari from another app.
It seems to happen sometimes but not others, and I can't figture out the pattern.
I don't think this has to do with the "Background App Refresh" feature as none of these auto-refreshing apps are in the apps list under Settings -> General --> Background App Refresh.
Any help in figuring out what's going on?

This is a problem many and probably all are having with iOS7 "Multitasking."
Here is probably the largest and most helpful thread about it, but it doesn't fix anything: https://discussions.apple.com/message/24582055#24582055

  • How often do Background App Refreshes occur in iOS 7?

In iOS 7, some apps can now update their data even when the app is not open. This feature is called "Background App Refresh". How often does each app update their content using this method? Is it up to the app to determine the frequency, or does iOS 7 limit them?

Why does there need to be a limit imposed?  Perhaps it'd be appropriate for some app to update once a minute.
I can just imagine the havoc that would be caused if Apple limited turn-by-turn navigation apps to a 15-min update window, just as an example.

  • IOS 8.0.2 Background App Refresh

I received an iPhone 6 Plus replacement from Apple and restored it from a backup (via iTunes). Everything worked as it should be, but after two days of using the new iPhone I recognised that automatic app updates as well as Background App Refresh are not working anymore.
    E.g.:
Apps won't receive automatic updates (Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Updates > on)
Overcast: new episodes no longer get automatically downloaded to my device (Settings > General > Background App Refresh > on)
    What I did so far:
I already deleted and reinstalled affected apps (like Overcast)
I changed the settings > turned off and on (background updates etc.); restarted the phone...
Is this a known iOS 8.0.2 issue or do I really have to restore my iPhone again (what I definitely don't want to do)?
Any help is very much appreciated!

The things that I have tried:
    - Remove exchange account, restart phone, create new exchange account, restart again, open app. Nothing.
    - Created a Gmail account instead of an exchange account (which didn't work previously, due to me not seeing the shared calendar), didn't work.

  • HP ePrint iOS app no longer finds Photosmart C4780 after app update

I have an HP Photosmart C4780 connected through WiFi to my network but sadly it's not supported by AirPrint on iDevices.
So, I was using HP ePrint Home & Biz iOS app (version 4.1) which was very useful for me as it found the printer and allowed me to print from my iPad/iPhone.
Today I updated the app on my iPhone to version 5 (now simply named "HP ePrint" on the App Store) and after the update, the new version doesn't find my Photosmart C4780 anymore. I did the Activation thing on the iPhone, as it was requested to refresh the list of printer on my network in the All tab, but after Refresh no printer is found.
Still I have the old 4.1 on my iPad (and hopefully in my iTunes library) and the printer is located, I assume, through mDSN as it shows the name specified for this setting.
So, question is: Did you dropped support for Photosmart C4780 on 5.0 release of HP ePrint iOS app? If so, why did't you informed this appropriately on the app update text description in the App Store? A message like "some printers may not be supported anymore" would have been helpul.
If HP ePrint should find Photosmart C4700 series printers and this is an issue, how should we proceed from here?
    Thanks.

    WilliamBPS,
I was not informed that support was removed from the app for certain printers. It may have been lost in the transition to the new updated app. I will deffinitly pass this information along as it is very important that the app supports as many printers as it can. I'll go ahead and take note of your printer model. If I find anything out about this, I'll try to give you an update in this thread.

  • Background app refresh not working mail app

I have an Iphone 4 with the latest IOS7. Background app refresh is on but it's not working, at least for Mail and Mailbox app. I already tried reseting all settings and restarting.
This is what I do to test if it's working.
    1) I send myself a test email
    2) I wait to see if I get the badge count update (I get it in mailbox but I dont get it in Mail app)
    3) I put the phone in airplane mode
    4) I open the apps to see If the test email was download while I was on wifi and it's not there.
Also it's very strange that my mail app badge count doesn't get updated...

So here is what I ended up doing.
I did a fresh restore and logged into my icloud. I waited for all my calendars, contacts, reminders, ect. to sync and turned off icloud but selected the option to keep that data on my phone. Then I created a new icloud account and waited for the new data to sync to my new icloud. After that I performed another fresh restore but this time I logged into my new icloud. I downloaded "Newsify" again and waited for it to do the background app refresh and it did :). It turns out that it stopped doing it and it was the app the whole time of just buggy ios 7 so I restored from the backup I did before all of this and end of sotrie.

  • "Background App Refresh" does not refresh

I have trouble with my Podcasts app (it crashes when I open it) and I noticed the following bug:
If I go in "Setting > Podcasts", there is the option "Background App Refresh" switched on, and I can switch it off.
    I switch it off.
I go back to setting and then again to "Setting > Podcasts", and the option "Background App Refresh" is still on!
Perhaps it is related to the fact that this app is not working anymore?
    iPhone 5s
    iOS 8.2
    Podcasts 2.2 (740)

I thought the problem was solved after letting it update all the apps and sit for a while on a wifi network where I have unlimited data...  Unfortunately when I tethered today it sucked down 40 megs with zero apps open.   I turned off the wifi hotspot before it used more data.
What is it downloading????   This is really frustrating.  I wish I could put ios 6 on this ipad.

  • No apps in Background App Refresh

    Hi everybody,
I am using iphone 5s and ios 8.1
My apps (endomondo and gipis) stopped working correctly because they needed to be turn on in the Background App Refresh but there are no such apps there.
I cannot use my apps =(
Could you help with this issue?
    Thank in advance.
    Pavel

I have this issue as well for every running app I've tried (i.e. Endomondo, MapMyRun, RunKeeper) since the iOS 8 update. I've filed support tickets for both Endomondo and MapMyRun after @AppleSupport told me to contact the app developers directly. As of ~10 days ago, both support teams told me they're aware of the issue and working toward resolution. Nothing since then.

  • Apps didnt appear in Background App Refresh

    Hi all,
I'm using Iphone 5, after updated to ios 8 and later, my apps (nike running & endomondo) didnt appear in the Background App Refresh list. So that i cannot use Nike Running & Endomondo since the apps keep asking me to enable them in Background App Refresh.
Is anyone having same issue here? Need solution on this or is it because of ios 8?
    Thanks

  • Background app refresh disabled

    Hello all,
I love running, and therefore I've used Nike+ running for many years now. Currently I use an iPhone 5s, with iOs 8.1 When starting the app, the message "Background App Refresh Disabled, Open settings and enable Background App Refresh so that we can track your runs in the background". However, when I look this up in settings there is no Nike+ in that list to activate. So, At this moment, I'm no longer able to use this app.
What's wrong? How come that my girlfriend (iPhone 5C, iOs 8.1) doesn't have this problem?
    I've tried:
    - Reinstalling the app
    - Downloading the app on my phone with my girlfriends Apple ID
Anyone out there with a possible solution?
    Bye

Thought I'd reply to this seen as no one else has, I am also experiencing very similar problems with my 4s and by the looks of it is it's across all handsets. I've never had any battery issues with my iPhone even 7.0.6 was fine, but since updating to 7.1 the battery is ticking down very fast. I fully charged in the morning and left it in my locker all day at work when I got my hands on it it's gone down to 52% just on its own!!
I really hope they sort this out fast the irony is 7.1 was supposed to help battery life!

  • Background App Refresh

Just activated a brand new iPhone6 and sync'd with previous backup on iCloud.
In General settings, Background App Refresh is turned off and setting is greyed out. Some individual apps have it turned on but is also greyed out so it cannot be changed.
Am trying to get it turned back on globaly so I can control which apps I want to auto refresh.

    Hi there jho2me,
It looks like the Restriction settings in iOS can prevent changes to the Background App Refresh. You may ywant to take a look at these settings on your device. The article below has more information.

  • Background app refresh doesn't work at all

im on ios 8.1.2 with an iPhone 6 plus. My problem is that any app I have running in the background (best buy, groupon, Safari, etc) all re-load whenever I switch apps. i have background app refresh turned on so that everything stays active. It's really frustrating to be browsing a store website/app, switch to another app like my messages or mail, then switch back to the app/safari and it reloads as if I just opened the app. It NeVER remembers what I'm doing. I only keep a couple things open in the background too. ive tried turning the background app refresh on and off but nothing works. Basically, I can't multitask whatsoever with my iPhone and it's ******* me off. Anyone have this issue?

    Hi
I just checked - I was intrigued by your post because I have background app refresh off - and my safari etc maintain the website / pages where I am at if I switch. So I was wondering if indeed Background App Refresh has anything to do with your issue - sorry I know I am not helping to solve it - but wondered if there was something else going on.

  • Why are some apps missing from 'background app refresh'?

I noticed Runkeeper (current version) is missing from 'background app refresh'. In order to start tracking a run, it has to be enabled in BAF...but it's not there. I've rebooted and reinstalled - no dice. Any advice?

Go to the purchased tab of the app store on your iPad and try downloading them from there. Unless these apps have been updated to only work with a newer iOS version than what you are running, you should be able to download them again.

  • Cannot turn on background app refresh

    Hi all,
I need to turn on background app refresh, however I cannot.
I had turn it all off for sometime, but I keep on missing out whatsapp messages, that is hurting my work.
I want to turn it back on to activate whatsapp.
To my surprise, I found that I cannot turn it back on. It simply refuses to turn on no matter how many times I pressed it.
    Any advice?
    Thanks thanks,
    Gemshin

    Hi gemshin,
If you are having issues with your iPhone being unable to turn on background app refresh, you should take a look at this article -
    iOS: Understanding multitasking
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4211
In particular see this section -
If an app doesn't respond to your input, or doesn't perform as expected, do the following, testing after each step:
    Check for app updates.
    Force the app to close.
    Restart your device.
    Update your iOS device.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Submitting iOS app to AppStore - Distribution certificate?!

I have finished developing the first version of my iOS app, and continued to complete all the necesarry steps in Itunes Connect and began uploading my app through the mac's os AppLoader. What consequently turned out to be the problem is that my app which was published in Adobe Flash Proffesional 6 was configured under a development certificate (in the deployment tab) and not a distribution certificate needed to publish it to the App Store. I generated such a certificate on a Mac and tried using it in my project through Flash 6 on my PC, however a password is needed to publish the app.
I have several questions concerning this issue :
    1) Is there a way to generate a distribution certificate on my PC (not through a mac)?
    2) these distribution certificates are .cer extensions - in FLASH you are instructed to browse for .p12 certificates.
    3) If i can use the distribution certificate created in the mac computer in my project on my Windows PC, where can i figure out the password it requires me to enter?
This is a very frustrating matter, Adobe if you can upload a Distribution Tutorial for Publishing to App Store that would help many people dealing with the same problem...currently there is only a tutorial on how to create a .p12 development certificate...
    Thanks,
    Roy

    1.  yes, but it's much more difficult than doing it on a mac.  in fact, i believe you will have to emulate a mac to do it.
    2.  when you create your .p12 file in keychain you enter an password.  (there's no reason to use a different passwords for development and distribution.)
Go to the https://developer.apple.com/devcenter/ios/index.action using a Mac computer or a virtual Mac
    Log-in.
Click on the iOS Dev Center link.
Click iOS Provisioning Portal link.  (See Fig08-04.)
Click the Certificates link in the left panel.
Click the Distribution tab in the right panel.
Click the Request Certificate button in the right panel.
Follow the directions using Keychain Access to create your distribution Certificate.  (See Fig 08-05.)  Apple has easy-to-follow directions to create a Certificate Signing Request that is used to create your Certificate. The steps needed to create a Certificate Signing Request appear in the right panel after step 7.  The only part I stumble on is when instructed to open Certificate Assistant.  You will find it at the top left of your Mac's screen after clicking Keychain Access, not in the Keychain Access window.
The right panel should change to show your Certificate is Pending Issuance.  Refresh the page and you should see Your Certificate is Issued and read for download. (See Fig08-06.)
Download your ios_distribution.cer by clicking the download button.
Download an AppleWWDRCA.cer by clicking the "*If you do not have the WWDR intermediate certificate installed, click here to download now." link.
Open both files in Keychain Access (using the login Keychain).
Right click your private key in Keychain Access (you may need to expand the iPhone Developer certificate shown in your Keychain Access window) and click Export.  Make sure File format is Personal Information Exchange (.p12) and click Save.  You will be prompted for a password that you must remember.  You will use that password each and every time you publish an iOS game and you will use your .p12 (distribution Certificate) file for all the apps/games you distribute (until your Certificate expires and you pay another $99 and follow these steps again).

  • Need help understanding Background App Refresh

I'm trying to understand how Background App Refresh works. Whether it is on or off, whenever I switch to another app it will reload the page/app. Games start back at the home screen, webpages reload, all my typing (notes etc) disappear, it's as if I'm opening the page/app for the first time over and over. I don't keep more than a few things open at once, so I'm not a multitask hog. I assumed that with the Background App Refresh on it would keep the things open and current. Is it a RAM issue? Why do things keep reloading? Even if it's only Safari with one tab and I'm typing an email, when I go back to Safari the page reloads and I need to find what I was looking at again...
Anyone else experience this? iPhone 6 Plus with the latest iOS.

This is the key phrase from that page: "Some apps can continue to run in the background. You can allow these apps to refresh themselves by turning on Background App Refresh. This settings lets apps check for new content and download updates, or retrieve updated content in the background when they receive push notifications."
Only some apps can retrieve updated data through background app refresh (BAR). *All* apps can enter multitasking and be opened quickly...but this is NOT the idea behind BAR. BAR capable apps have the additional ability to refresh their data & content if they are enabled to do so. Just because an app is in multitasking, it doesn't mean it's capable of background app refresh.
If that doesn't clarify things, check out the following page:
