IOS 7 Calendar and Slow Animations
Are the two biggest fail on iOS 7.
Slow animations:
-opening folders
-locking phone
-unlockng phone
-closing folders
-search bar
-swiping left and right has to be very accurate now because of the swipe down for search engine

Why am I restricted to this view? I want to be able to view the entire calendar so I can see what's head and plan for it like the simplistic version of iOS 6 calendar. They completed blotched this calendar.
Agreed. The animations make me dizzy and hurt my eyes, also makes the iphone laggy and sluggish. The new Calendar app now is unusable for me, all of my shared calendars are overlapping each other and make it almost impossible to understand at a quick glance - please bring back the old month view and list view.

Using illustrator for iOS graphics and frame animations (beginner question)
Hey there,
Just want to get some opinions and advice.
We are developing a sidescolling 2D game and I am creating 2D graphics in illustrator, ...so far so good, at this point in time I have a few characters designed.
Now for the character poses, positions and frame by frame animations.... hmmmm.
I have been searching for examples of ways to create character movements and positions in illustrator but as of yet have not found any good examples or explainations.
Would anyone care to share (or point me to some examples) of workflows you use to create different poses and character postions using illustrator...
(eg. should I be importing my artwork into flash to use the bone tool? Or should I create each variation in illustrator by copying my character and manipulating)Though the people I have talked to are using solely illustrator to do just that!?
Maybe the people you've talked to just haven't taken opportunity to familiarize themselves with Bones. The artwork for cartooney walking animations can be done fairly easily in a drawing program, using Blends, Transform Again etc. So in many cases it's just not a big deal either way.
What is the advantage of using just illustrator to create animations, I'm guessing that its because the drawing tools available are superior to flash?
To me, it's not so much about "superior" drawing tools in a drawing program; it's more about a more complete set of drawing tools and commands. Flash has a Bezier drawing tool that works fine, so you can draw paths with control. But creating Blends on paths is just more convenient to do right on the page, without involving a timeline, keyframes, etc. Brushes and Transform Effect make it easy to repeat a series of objects. Flash's continual on-the-fly autotracing and auto merging of overlapping unselected and ungrouped objects can be cumbersome while drawing.
See this example. Then click the Construction Notes link below it to view a 2-page PDF that shows how the majority of the artworks was accomplished with just two very simple ArtBrushes used in combination with pathBlends. That kind of stuff is often just easier/quicker to do in a drawing program, release to layers, and then copy/paste or otherwise import to Flash.
Using Blends in AI for things like this experiment can save alot of tedium and time, as compared to working only with Flash's drawing tools. (Notes here.)
Some things just can't be done with only Flash's drawing tools. Envelope distortions, for example, can be blended to create frame-by-frame shape tweens that would be difficult to do with just Flash's native tools, as in this experiment. (The animation is embedded on Page 11 of the PDF; you may have to click "Trust this host one time only" in Reader and then click the middle of the page to get it to play, depending on your OS version.)
But as a general rule whenever using a drawing program in conjunction with Flash, avoid using more than ordinary flat fills and stokes in the drawing program before importing the paths to Flash. If you want to involve grads, shadows, transparency, etc., you'll generally be better off adding those things in Flash. Such effects are not the same constructs in different programs, and will most likley become rasterized in Flash (as is the case in the last example, above).
So again, it depends on specifically what you are trying to do.

Upgraded my ipad4 from ios6 to iOS 8 because the new WSJ app required it. HUGE MISTAKE!!!!!!! I can maybe understand some apps being slower but not Safari or Chrome. Apple must be throttling back the ipad4 processor even more with ios8 to force an upgrade to the next gen iPad whenever it arrives.

I go my dad's old phone 2 weeks ago, I updated to ios 7.02, my pararama didn't move at all, I looked in settings and messed around trying to make it work ( turning it off and on) it still didn't work, I also noticed that my camera features such as filters on the slide bar dissapered, I updated to 03 but still noting happened I am do angry, how can i fix this? Also my phone, keyboard etc is soooo slow it takes me a minute to type 3 words. All I got to say is apple you ruined everybody's phone, I know a lot of people who are buying galaxy's because if the update ! I what my paranorma and filters back, please help me:'(
iOS 7 doesn't support all features on the iPhone 4 (it's too old and slow for several iOS 7 features), panorama photography and camera filters are among the features that are not available on the iPhone 4. Here's a list of what is supported on what hardware with iOS 7:

Traffic information in Today view is available on iPhone 4s or later.

You laggy keyboard/typing issue however is another matter. Several iPhone 4 users (and other models too) have reported similar problems after upgrading to iOS 7, but most iPhone 4 users do not experience the issue. A fix I've heard has been successful in several cases is to logout of iCloud and iTunes and the App Store in Settings, reset the phone (press sleep/wake and home buttons together and hold until Apple logo appears), and then log back into iCloud and iTunes and the App Store in Settings again. -
IOS 7 Calendar and Mail disappears
I have several iCloud calendars, a couple subscribed icloud calendars a subscribed calendar from TripIt and an Exchange calendar. I also have several email accounts. Two iCloud, One Exchange, a gmail and several POP accounts.
After updating to IOS 7, None of my NEW events added to Exchange, TripIt or my iCloud added via my Macbook calendar would show up.. All events previous to the update were still there..
Then My iCloud email accounts disappeared. I went into the settings and the accounts were still there. I went into the settings for the account and exited back out. After that, my mail account re-appeared, but not the calendars.
I deleted TripIt and re-added it through the app, and suddenly my entire calendar started working again.
Today, All of my calendars disappeared except for birthdays which I believe are from my contact cards.. Also, from my exchange account I have one recurring event every two weeks.. This event shows up.
I have gone down to the bottom of the Calendars app, clicked the link 'calendars' and then chosen to HIDE all Calendars, and then SHOW all calendars.. I have also hidden all calendars and tried showing them individually.
I tried re-subscribing to the Tripit calendar and I get a message saying I'm already subscribed to a duplicate calendar..
I have an additional app that keeps appointments CalendarSched that reads from my calendar.. This apps still shows the appointments.. FYI, I added CalendarSched AFTER I got the calendar working again, so it was not installed when I upgraded.

How to sync calendars and contacts between ios 3.1.3 and Mountain Lion?
I have a 1st generation iPod touch under iOS 3.1.3 and a MacBook Pro under Mountain Lion 10.8.3 with iTunes 11.0.1.
Since the upgrade to Mountain Lion syncing calendars and contacts between the iPod Touch and the Mac no longer works.
I don't want my personal information in Apple's or anybody else's Cloud and anyway iOS 3.1.3 can't use Apple's Cloud.
So I can no longer sync without a) replacing my iPod Touch which itself works perfectly well and does not need replacing and b) using Apple's Cloud which I do not wish to use for personal data.
This is a MAJOR AND DAMAGING step backwards by Apple, which they should correct IMMEDIATELY if they wish to keep their increasingly fed-up older customers.
Time-wasting work-around:
As I never trust operating system upgrades to not destroy something that "just works", I have Snow Leopard still on another bootable partition on my machine, and Lion on a bootable partition on an external Thunderbolt disc.
In order to sync, I backup Calendars and Contacts under Mountain Lion under which I do all my normal work, switch to either Snow Leopard or Lion, update iCal and Address Book from the backup files saved under Mountain Lion, sync the iPod Touch, and switch back to Mountain Lion.
Lots of time wasted with 2 successive re-boots, but at least HERE IS A SOLUTION THAT WORKS - I have seen lots of posts protesting bitterly about this totally unacceptable backwards step - what on earth do Apple hope to gain from this? More sales of newer equipment to replace perfectly functioning older ones? Certainly not from many of us.Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Self-explanatory. I am positive that the GIF I am viewing is faster than what it's supposed to be. I viewed the same animated GIF in another browser and it plays fine. It just plays slower in Firefox 11. I downgraded to Firefox 10 and the animated GIFs were fine again. I upgraded back to 11 and yet again the animated GIFs slowed down. This happens for all of my animated GIFs.
I like viewing my animated GIFs, and since I don't have any problems yet with Firefox 10, I'll be sticking with it for a while...Yes I have exactly the same problem, and it has NOT been solved yet in Firefox 14. Please Mozilla, what is the use releasing more and more "major upgrades", Firefox 11, then 12, then 13, then 14 (one per month !) if you don't even care to fix the big problems ? That is just marketing crap, nothing more. You guys used to do amazing job, but the new policy is just unbearable, no offense meant : you need to react !

IPhone 4s, still on iOS 6, is slow, can't connect to the internet, and overheats a lot,
I've have my iPhone 4s for about a year now, and up until when the iOS 7 update was released, I never had any problems with it. I still haven't updated my phone, though. I prefer the interface that comes with iOS 6, and in my opinion it's easier to use. But, since the new software updates have come out, my phone has been unable to connect to local internet servers (when it does, the internet doesn't work) and it has run slower, even freezing in the middle of use of apps such as Snapchat and Instagram. Now, I'm faced with another problem altogether (because I could deal with slight delays and no internet before.)
Now my phone overheats a lot. It's really concerning how often it happens. Before, it would only overheat if I used it for multiple hours on end, which was rare. Now, it overheats while charging, if I used any app with a camera, or even just while sitting there. I don't understand what's happening.
I do wonder, is all of this because I haven't updated to iOS 7? Or do I just need to replace my phone?
I'd prefer not updating, but if my phone would run more efficiently on iOS 7, I will.
I've heard that the update caused quite a bit of trouble for 4s users when they updated the first time, and I'm concerned that if my phone experiences that trouble, the situation will only get worse.
So should I update? Is the problem due to the fact that I haven't updated? Or is it something else entirely?

The 99.99% of people who have no problems after an update won't bother to post here; indeed, most of them don't even know ASC exists. FWIW, I had no problems with iOS 7 on my 4S. Your problem is most likely not related to iOS 6, but you should probably update anyway. Google calendar and iOS 8 - no longer synchronizing
Updated my iPhone 4s to iOS 8 and suddenly my gmail calendar is no longer synchronizing on the phone. I've already done the restore to factory settings because after the upgrade to iOS 8, my phone lumped a bunch more files into "other" which weren't there prior to the upgrade. I restored as new and added all my email accounts again and calendar is turned on for my gmail account.
On my MBP, my calendar is set up sans the email, and it's still all there, synchronizing perfectly. Can't figure out what's up with the phone or why it won't work. I've also removed the email account, re-added (for a grand total of two times) and nada. Zip. Zilch. Calendar won't sync and phone will not acknowledge the gmail calendar when adding an event.
Anyone else having this problem? I've used my work calendar on this phone for 2+ years without issue.
Thanks,i realize this is a naive question, but i've never had problems with iPhones syncing before. i just gave up my 4s with iOS 5 and now have an iPhone 6, iOS 8. Everything seemed to be working well since i got the phone in late November, until a couple of days ago, and now i'm having the problem raised in this discussion and a couple of others.
Starting a couple of days ago, i found that when i entered a new event in the iPhone calendar, it did not sync with iCal, or iCloud. I also found that my iCloud storage was full, and eventually figured out that that was because my phone had automatically backed itself up to iCloud twice, at 2.4G each, which used up most of my 5G iCloud storage. ?? I never had this problem before. So i thought maybe that's why the data stopped syncing. i deleted one of the backups and turned off 'back up' in the iCloud settings. But no success.
Then i discovered that Contacts were still syncing--if i entered a new contact on the iPhone, it showed up in iClound/iCal. So only Calendar was not syncing.
Another member of these forums suggested i make sure that iCloud was set as my default calendar in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendar.
in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Calendars>Default Calendars, there are two default calendar headings. One is iCloud, and under that heading are 8 sub calendars (Home, Finance, Pets, Family, etc). The second heading is my gmail address which is my Apple ID, and under the heading there is one option, which is my gmail username. That is checked as my default calendar. There is no way to select iCloud as my default calendar. The heading is not selectable. If i want to choose an iCloud default calendar, my only choices are to pick one of the 8 sub calendars--which seems crazy to me. Why would i want to pick Pets, for example, to use as my default calendar? What's the point of having all those sub calendars? i never used them as calendars. i just used them to color code the different categories.
Anyway, i experimented with changing my default calendar from my gmail username under my gmail address heading, to one of the sub-calendars under the iCloud heading. At random, i chose the Home "calendar." Its color is blue.
None of my entries of the past couple of days showed up.
In January, i had entered three dental appointments. They did not have a color code because i had just used the gmail username as my default calendar. They were a sort of salmon color, apparently the default color of this calendar. I changed one of the dental appointments to Home and voila, it showed up in January where it was supposed to be.
But how crazy is this? iCloud is forcing me to choose one of these 8 sub calendars as my default calendar, so that all of my events, regardless of their correct category, becomes part of the one category i have been forced to choose? What's the point of having 8 different choices if only one of them can sync with iCloud?
At this point, i have tried one suggestion here, toggling my gmail account calendar off and back on. It didn't work I guess i will now do a reset but i am hesitating because i'm afraid i will lose data and settings and will have to put a lot more time into trying to get it set back up. It IS the main account i use and i hate to mess with it or delete it. Why is this happening? Everything was fine until a couple of days ago.
I went to the link posted by gosleg above. That was a dead end because at that link, under "Select Calendars to sync to your iPhone," it only has one choice under My Calendars, and the email address (account) it shows is not my gmail address. this has been a confusing problem i've struggled with with Google for a long time. Before there was gmail, my google account used my then main email address, which is a roadrunner address, which i still have but don't use much. So that is the only "calendar" that is listed under My Calendars at gosleg's link. The check box is checked and it's grayed out. i can't uncheck it.
So i don't know if resetting my iPhone will even help with this.
i only know that with my 4s with iOS 5, everything worked correctly, effortlessly, easy, and after i updated to the new phone, everything worked fine for the first 3 weeks or so, and then suddenly i started having calendar problems.
Calendar problems (possibly related):
1. entries of events in Calendar don't sync to iCloud, though contacts do
2. entries in Calendar show Greenwich Mean Time, it will enter both local time zone AND gmt, two entries on one day. Despite being set to use my local time zone in settings, it wants to make sure i know what the GMT is for all my entries.
3. iOS forces me to have alerts for Calendar entries when i don't want any. Even though in settings i have default alert time set to none, and because it's set to none, when i am entering an event, i scroll down to alerts and can see it says None, when i click add to add the even, and then open the event back up, it shows an alert for 30 minutes. It does this every time. i have to turn it off.
When asked Apple about this bug, i was told i just needed to reset my iPhone. I don't think i have ever reset any iPhone i have and it scares me. I don't want to change it to factory settings, i don't want to have to go through everything and re-enter information. Do i risk losing anything? -
I upgraded to ios 7.1 and even after i updated to this new version in the calendar view i could get a list of all appointments and now i have done something and i get a half scrren of calendar and half screen of appointments. is their anyway to get full screen of appointments with the 7.1 version
Tap on any give date in the monthly view and you will be taken a list of event, the default position being the date you tapped.
The icon just to the left of the search icon provides a master list view of events.

I have tried to install icloud 4.0 for windows and again is does not allow syncing with outlook 2013 calendar and contact, using windows 8.1 and IOS 8.02 (get - unexpected error)?
Having same issues. had been syncing every few days with outlook 2007 contacts and calendar but since updated to 4.0.2 and latest itunes I get an error that it is unable to sync. I can't seem to find any solution.

it sounds like you were using iCloud. Go under Settings > iCloud and make sure the switch for Notes is ON (green side showing). If it's already on, turn it off, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on. Your notes should sync up.
